Sat on the back of the ambulance on the step, listening to Jeff ramble on, Iain sits there eating a biscuit sipping his coffee. He places his cup down on the floor off the ambulance looking to Jeff. He had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.
Jeff looks to him.
"You're not paying a blind bit of attention to what I'm saying are you?"
Iain looks at him munching on the digestive biscuit. He swallows it. "If I'm honest… not really no." He looks at Jeff biting the biscuit again chewing it.
Jeff leans on the mop looking to Iain rolling his eyes. "Too busy thinking about the new boss already?" He raises an eyebrow looking to iain, who raises an eyebrow to Jeff. "What?"
"You make it sound like I love her."
"Well don't you?" Jeff looks at him slightly pouting.
"Jeff she ain't even been here 24 hours. How could I? That would be a bit weird. I just… wanna know her background. If you'd seen what she was like yesterday with the gang. You'd know where I was coming from." Iain shoves the rest of the biscuit in his mouth chewing it before swallowing it, picking his coffee cup back up. "If she ain't been in trouble with gangs or something then I wanna know how she knows so much."
Jeff leans against the ambulance folding his arms letting the mop rest against the ambulance. "Ask her." He licks his lips leaning down for his cup of coffee sipping it. "No harm in it. If she doesn't wanna tell ya she won't."
"But then it'll leave me with more questions." Iain looks at him, shifting a little. "I'd want a clear answer and if I didn't get that or she told me to go away… it's not going to satisfy that need to know."
Jeff looks to Iain over his coffee cup, his eyebrows raised. He swallows some of his coffee holding it with one hand, lowering it down. "Why are you so bothered? Even if she does know something about it, she at least can look after herself… and us it seems. I don't think it'll be a bad thing. Let's face it if it was, she wouldn't be here would she?" He shrugs a little.
Iain looks at Jeff, fidgeting on the step slightly. He knew Jeff had a point but it didn't stop him wanting to know. Did they now have someone who had a dark background? Was she involved in a gang or did she just know about them? But if she knew about them how and why? There was too many questions for Iain to even think off and it annoyed him even more. He sips his coffee a bit more staring into space deciding whether it would be a good idea to ask her. She'd not been in here for 24 hours yet, he didn't want to seem like he was prying into her life or anything. But then again, she had access to their records… why shouldn't they know something about her?
Iain puts his cup back down shifting to the side pulling his phone out of his pocket. Going onto Facebook typing her name in, he searches through finding Comfort on Facebook. He clicks onto her profile looking through it. There wasn't much on there to see, it was clearly set to private. He could understand why being a manager and doing the job she did. Most of the teams profiles were private. He clicks onto the photos, to see what comes up. His eyebrows raise seeing some of the photos. Jeff leans over glancing down seeing them. She looked totally different out of uniform and in normal clothes. It was odd in a way.
"Add her." Jeff looks to Iain. Iain looks up shaking his head quickly. "What? Why not? Come on!"
"No!" Iain looks at Jeff. Jeff tilts his head giving Iain a look before grabbing Iain's phone. "No. Jeff! Give it back you idiot!" Iain stands up fighting Jeff for his phone back. Jeff keeps hold of the phone, managed to click friend request on Comfort's profile.
"Mwhahaha." Jeff smirks looking to Iain showing him.
"Jeff!" Iain exclaims looking to him.
"Delete it." Jeff looks at him as Iain grabs his phone back.
"No cos if I do that it looks weird. It's like I've added her then decided not to. It be better if she just didn't accept it. Jeff I can't believe you did that." Iain tuts a bit looking at Jeff, he sits back down on the back of the ambulance. Jeff stands looking smug. Iain shakes his head letting out a deep, annoyed sigh. He shoves his phone back into his pocket tutting to Jeff as he stands up picking his coffee cup up. "She's gonna think I'm a right weirdo."
"Well you shared a bad shift together, you never know she might think it's… sweet…" Jeff pauses, rethinking what he'd just said. Now he'd said that it did seem a bit weird. He shrugs it off. "Someone's gotta be first to add her, she's worked with you so why not you?" He grins. Iain looks behind to Jeff just giving him a look which makes Jeff laugh. He walks into the kitchen, rinsing his cup out debating whether to make another coffee or not. He looks around, realising he hadn't actually seen Comfort this morning. He looks around noticing her car wasn't in the car park, he frowns to himself. pushing the doors open heading back over to Jeff.
"Have you seen the boss?" Iain looks at Jeff who continues mopping he then stops. He looks up, thinking before looking at Iain shaking his head.
"Come to think of it… No I haven't." He frowns looking to Iain who raises an eyebrow looking around. "She's probably at some meeting or some crap." He shrugs. Iain nods a bit, Jeff was probably right. She was new after all. He takes up his perch again on the back of the ambulance folding his arms, leaning against it. He watches Jeff mopping for a bit before climbing in the back doing some stock take. A good hour or so goes by and all is quiet in the station. It was quiet on the call side of things which made a change. No one was complaining though, it was very rare for it to be like this. The team all sort out the ambulances, doing the stock take, washing them down and sorting out the ordering for more equipment or for things to be checked and changed. Been as Comfort was new they decided it would be in their best interests to stay on her good side. From yesterday, they all liked her as it was. She'd stood in the way of Iain being shot. She didn't know him and it was her first day but she was prepared to stand in the way for him, that meant a lot to the close knit team.
Walking out of the depot Iain looks up seeing a car pulling into the grounds. He walks over a bit seeing it was a Porsche, that could only mean, one person. He stands still watching the car park up, before Comfort steps out. She didn't have her hair tied up, it was down around her shoulders. She was in uniform though. Somehow she made it look glamorous. Iain wasn't too sure how someone could do that with the glorious green uniform they wore but somehow Comfort managed it. Jeff looks up seeing iain, he follows his gaze seeing the boss. He smirks pulling his phone out, messaging him. Iain pulls his phone out looking to the message and what it read.
"Stare a bit more and she might feel it."
Iain looks around to Jeff smiling sarcastically to him which makes Jeff laugh.
Comfort stands up pulling her bag and some folders from her car she dumps the folders onto the top of the car letting her bag sit in the floor. Slipping her phone into her pocket pulling her car keys out of the car she stands back up. Closing her car door with her foot she locks the car turning around. She looks up seeing Iain stood by the back of the car.
"Morning boss." Iain smiles at her.
"Good morning paramedic Dean." She smiles picking her bag up before looking to the folders. "I'll come back for those."
"It's alright I can carry them for ya." He grins walking over to the side of the car leaning over picking everything up from the roof. Comfort looks at him. "Office yeah?" He turns around heading off towards the office. Comfort nods following behind him. She smiles to the other paramedics including Jeff.
"Morning all. Apologies I'm late. No meeting this morning though if I need to get anything across to you all I'll leave a note in the kitchen." She smiles walking along. They all nod before going back to what they were doing instead of going to the station. Comfort walks behind Iain as he walks with all of her folders.
"What is all this?" He looks behind to her.
"Folders from a meeting this morning at HQ. Deciding to ring me this morning as I'm getting ready for work that I had a meeting. I wasn't best impressed."
"I bet you weren't. Dropping that on ya in the morning. How to ruin your morning… and day." He looks at her stepping to the side to let her unlock the office. She nods to what he says.
"Aye, you're telling me." She looks up at him smiling. Iain looks down to her in front of him, smiling to her. She opens the office door walking in, chucking hr bag down opening the windows as It was quite warm in there. "Just dump them on the desk, I'll get around to sorting them out at some point." She opens a few of the blinds to let some light into the place, turning around walking to her desk. Iain stands watching her, slipping his hands into his pockets of his trousers. He lingers around for a few seconds before speaking.
"Are you… coming out with us all today? Or are you working the RRV." He looks to her now stood by the office door. Comfort looks up and over to him, turning on the computer as she does so.
"I best get some of this done first then I might come out." She looks over to the rota seeing who was in. She looks back to the computer as it loads up. Iain looks at her.
"You can come out with me." He looks at her a little smile on his face. Comfort shifts behind her desk listening to what he says.
"I've not been here that long… I don't date my colleagues that fast." She shifts her eyes upwards looking over at Iain. He looks at her thinking about what he'd just said, realising what it sounded like. He laughs a bit.
"Worth a try I guess." He shrugs it off, smiling to her as he stands there. "Can't fault a man for trying… after you save his life." Comfort looks at him a smile on her face, lifting her arms up she takes a hair band of her wrist tying her hair up.
"Actually, talking off yesterday." She sits down in her chair leaning back, looking almost glad to sit down. "The detective who is in charge of that case rang me. He asked if me and you would testify in court against what we saw. I said I'd ask you instead of just giving an answer. I don't mind, not the first time I've given evidence, probably won't be the last either." She leans back in her chair looking to Iain who nods a bit. "They just want us to say what we saw and the conversation they all had basically. Nothing strenuous and nothing to catch us out on. From what I gathered from the copper, they need all the evidence they can to help back the case." She logs onto the computer, letting it load up properly looking back over to Iain.
Iain nods as he stands there. "Yeah… why not. Get's me out of a shift with Dave." He smiles, seeing the look on Comfort's face. "Have you not had the pleasure of meeting Dave yet?" She shakes her head. "Oh you're missing out. Lovely bloke, but he'll talk your ear off about his dog and camper van. Tell you how to do your job and just generally get on your nerves." Comfort nods.
"Does he also defy orders?" She licks her lips looking at him, Iain lets out a little laugh putting his head down knowing that was aimed at him. "I only expect orders not to be followed if I'm totally wrong. And not on my first day." She looks at him, not having a go though. Most managers would be losing their crap over it but Comfort wasn't that bothered. She knew everyone was probably just trying to prove themselves to her, even if that meant going against her orders. Iain nods.
"Yeah sorry… won't happen again." He looks at her smiling. He wasn't going to promise it wouldn't happen again as it probably would do knowing him. He did like how she didn't seem to bothered, if that had been the last boss he'd have had an ear full by now. He did imagine Comfort went against her own rules though so she couldn't really talk. "Well, I'll let you get on with everything. If ya wanna come out on a shout with me… or anyone just wonder out. I'm sure someone will be around." He looks to Comfort as she types and clicks. She nods.
"I'm sure I will. Saying that though I will need you all to go out and about. Sit around the city, on the outskirts and that. Just incase we do get calls we have units available and near by. Not just say here miles away. I'll let you sort it out between yourselves where you all go. You don't have to be out hours on end, just so the map back at control doesn't show everyone here." She smiles glancing over to him as she was now typing something up.
Iain walks towards the door nodding. "Noted. I'll tell everyone to start pairing up… moving out of the station and all that. Oh we have done all the stock taking, orders are in the store room…"
"Fab… I'll go grab them in a bit." Comfort smiles. "Sort yourselves out and I'll see you all later." She smiles before looking back to the computer. Iain looks at her nodding before heading out of the door. He pulls the office door to a bit so it wasn't wide open. He could already tell she didn't like the door closed, she liked to seem approachable. He thought she was, she seemed alright and she'd now only been here 24 hours. He couldn't wait for her to work with everyone else… although he wanted to work with again, also gave him a break from Jeff!
