I don't own Naruto.
Chapter 1
It was a normal, albeit cold, December morning for me. I usually woke up around 8 am and after a quick breakfast I made my way to the University.
I was still a little sleepy because I got too little sleep last night, studying for the upcoming exams. That was probably one reason I missed the car when I made to cross the street.
The last thing I saw was bright light, and then only darkness followed. A feeling of emptiness started to surround me.
That was definitely not the way I had imagined dying. I had dreams and aspirations…
Then, something changed. The darkness that surrounded me started to recede. A bright light was shining in the distance, and it moved towards me.
Suddenly with I jerked upwards, but I don't think I was in heaven. I was lying on something uncomfortable, probably a mattress, and the sun was shining on my face.
My blurry vision started to clear up, and I got my first proper look at my surroundings. In my first life I was a big fan of Japaneses culture, so I was fairly certain, that the room had a traditional Japanese look.
I also noticed two other beds in the room, which children sleeping in them. That confused me, why am I here, this room doesn't look like it is part of a hospital.
"I have a terrible feeling about this" I spoke quietly, trying not to wake up my two roommates.
Trying to get additional information about my current whereabouts, I stand up and make my way over to the window on the other side of the room.
With a sinking feeling of dread, I take in the view. The architecture is definitely Japanese, but not modern. But it is not the architecture that makes my heart race faster, looking over the rooftops of the other buildings in our street, I see a mountain with three familiar faces carved into it…
"David, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." I murmured to myself.
Staring back at me where three faces, that almost any anime enthusiast would recognize in seconds. And I have a feeling, that I might be farther away from home, than I originally expected.
A voice from the door snaps me out of my thoughts.
"… up. Masashi what are you looking at?" the woman in the door said, looking at me strangely.
"Nothing, just thinking." I answer in a voice, that was certainly not my own.
"You should get dressed, you have an important day today! You will embarrass yourself if you are late on your first day at the academy!" she told me with a stern look.
I nod, trying not to show my emotions.
So in summary, I have died, I got reincarnated into the Naruto Universe, and apparently I am a kid named Masashi…
Well, Fuck…
My two roommates are apparently called Fuji and Itsuki. After dressing, I tagged along them to the dining area.
My memories are still foggy, but I am apparently in an orphanage. So, I get a second chance to live and don't get parents. That makes two lives without them.
In my previous life, I was called David Wildfield, a 21-year-old University student. Now, I am apparently a 6-year-old kid named Masashi.
Luckily, I was born in Konoha, arguably one of the saner Shinobi Villages. Thank whatever Deity that was responsible for my reincarnation that I didn't end up in Kiri…
The fact, that I am going to the academy is also a good sign. That means I can use chakra, at least I think so. So, I am probably going to become a Shinobi, which is better than being a civilian in my book. It is true, that I will most likely have to kill in order to survive, but I have at least a chance to be free and explore the world of my favorite anime…
While I mentally started to think about what all of this means, I ate breakfast and washed my plate afterwards. I also picked up my backpack for the academy.
Outside the gates of the orphanage, there were three genin waiting for me and the other orphans that will join the academy today. We were seven, my two roommates, me and four girls.
The sight of the Hitai-ate was fascinating for me, having only ever seen it in the anime.
"So, everyone here?" one of the genin, probably the leader, asks us, and we nod in reply.
"Good, you will follow us and don't wander off. We will only escort you today, so memorize the way? Any questions?" we shake our heads.
"Right, let's go." he said.
Making our way through Konoha, I took in as much as possible and let my mind wander a bit. It was beautiful, the trees and classic Japanese architecture working really well together. It was a sharp contrast to my earlier memories from modern cities. Because that is what Konoha is, maybe it is called a Hidden Village, but in my opinion Hidden City would be a better fit.
After a few more minutes of walking, we can see the academy building, and it is much bigger than I expected. Furthermore, I could make out hundreds of children roaming around.
The genin escorted us through the crowds of children and towards a room.
"From today onwards, you will become academy students of the leaf. Your classroom will be room number 212." here he pointed at the door. "Work hard and make Konoha proud!" with that, the three genin left.
We made our way inside. The other children whispered excitedly to one another, and I tried my best to ignore them.
Being mentally more than a decade older than those kids, and the fact, that I was always an introvert in my past life, made me somewhat uncomfortable. I therefor took a seat in the last row at the window.
The room started to filled up, next to us seven orphans there were around 30 other kids.
"I guess they will wield out the weaker ones in the coming years" I thought, remembering, that the classes in the anime looked smaller.
When the door opened and an adult walked in, the class quietened a bit, at least quiet when you consider that the class consisted of 6-year-old kids.
"Hello class, my name is Akira Tanaka, but you will call me Tanaka-Sensei. My job will be to teach you the basics every Shinobi should know." he said.
He then proceeded with the roll call, sadly I couldn't remember any name from the anime.
"Good, every one is here. Today we will begin with Introductions, thereafter, I will enplane to you the rules and duties of your new position as academy students." our teacher explained. "We will end every day with an hour of physical exercising. Any questions?"
After answering some in my opinion trivial questions, some kid in the first row asked about the training grounds, and if we are allowed to use them any time.
"The academy training grounds are always open for our students. Furthermore, you should always behave and respect the older students." our Sensei explained.
That's cool, I thought. I was an athlete in my previous life, so I liked the opportunity to train on my own, without the other kids in my class. Moreover, some physical activity will probably help me get my thoughts in order…
In his introduction, Sensei also explained the structure of the Academy. Normally, students visit the academy for a duration of six terms, starting at the age of six. There is also the option to join the academy for only four years, but this option is only available for clan kids, that are trained in the clan.
Orphans and Civilians like me often drop out after the first year. Many just don't have the dedication or the required chakra reserves.
I made a note to myself to visit the library as soon as possible to learn more about chakra.
I was also fairly surprised, when Tanaka-sensei told us about the subjects, that he is going to teach. Those included next to physical training, chakra theory and weapons, subjects like math, writing, and history.
"Interesting" I thought.
The rest of the day was fairly uneventful. But from the gossip and introductions I could deduct, that I was born almost a decade after the First Shinobi World War. Which means, that I will probably fight in the second as a genin.
That could become a problem…
Hey everyone, this is my first attempt at writing. Furthermore, English is not my native language, so be merciful :)
This story will contain some AU elements, that means, that some things like character age etc. will be changed.
Critique is always appreciated!
