Chapter Two
New Suit
After a quick nap, Catra awoke to find a note, stuck to her forehead. She took it off, and read.
"Check your email."
This caught her interest. She decided to check, and she was surprised. It turns out, Light Spinner thrilled at the idea that, Catra worked with The Magicat.
In fact, she even came up with something that Catra was willing to try out.
-
The Magicat stepped out from the roof exit, filled with excitement! What caused all this excitement anyway? A new suit! No more black and red, because her new super suit had bright white, and shiny gold tones, and her lenses were now blue.
This was the look of a real hero!
The Magicat went, speeding through the city, gladly showing off her new duds.
"'Scuse me, late for work!" She yelled, as she past the pedestrians, of Brightmoon City.
The wind, blowing against her, as she ran as fast as she could, always put a smile on her face.
"Comin' through!" The Magicat narrowly moved past the pedestrians. Not once, did she ever bump into someone.
"Looking good, Magicat!" Complemented, one of the citizens she past.
"Hellooo Brightmoon!" The Magicat yelled at the top of her lungs, as she jumped, high into the air, doing a double summersault.
"New suit! Same old me!" She avowed, as she picked up on a crime in progress.
She made her way over, acknowledging the less wind resistance the suit gave her. Thank you, Light Spinner!
She arrived to her destination, in record time! Once she found a high vantage point, she called Mermista.
"Mermista, I'm at a Lashor Construction site and there are a lot of guys here who either don't know what to do, or they're up to something else."
"What are they doing?" Mermista asked.
"I'm gonna go find out." The Magicat replied.
Before The Magicat could investigate, she received a text.
"Huh. Just got a text from Light Spinner." She read through it.
"Looks like she attached an idea for a kitty-gadget. Man, does she ever stop inventing?" She asked no one.
Light Spinner designed a device, which would restrain her opponents, as long as it was used with a yarn ball. Cute.
The Magicat used the element of SUPRPISE! She had a clear advantage against these thugs, seeing as she was The Magicat.
"Even if we went, one on one, I don't see this ending any differently!" She bantered.
"You know, supervillains are actually a lot more talkative than this!"
None of them could land a hit, not surprisingly. She's never been hit by a thug in years. Supervillains on the other hand? They give a mean blow!
Once they were finished, The Magicat had them wrapped in yarn. How silly.
And, she was off! Back into the streets, ready for more action, all pumped up!
Oh, hey! It's a text! Gotta head over to F.E.A.S.T? For an Anniversary cake? Fine.
-
Catra couldn't go to the shelter as The Magicat, so she changed into a pair of casual clothes that she stashed nearby. Wait. Most of her civilian clothes were black and red themed, how did anyone not figure that out?
Plus, she's terrible at coming up with excuses when she leaves to stop a crime. Is she not conspicuous? Or does everybody not think she's tough enough to be The Magicat?
Sure, you can suspect any female magicat to be the super heroine of Brightmoon City, but she's the most obvious, right? Whatever.
Hey! It's that girl from earlier!
"Hey! Welcome to F.E.A.S.T." Catra welcomed.
"Hey. I'm Lonnie. You're Catra, right? Miss Razz showed me baby pictures." The girl, Lonnie, sure knew how to make a first impression.
"Right. So, uh. Do you need anything?" Catra asked.
"Not right now, thanks." Lonnie replied.
'Guess I'd better do what I'm here for.' Catra went to go help with the Anniversary cake.
She went to the kitchen and found Wrordak, the youngest brother of the Prime family. The man who built F.E.A.S.T.
"Hey, Wrordak, so sorry I'm late--" Catra started.
"You're right on time. Just keep her distracted while we get everything ready." Wrordak instructed.
"You got it." Catra replied, and went over to Madam Razz.
Madam Razz was the one who raised Catra. Ever since her parents died, Catra lived with Madam Razz, who treated Catra as if she were her own daughter.
"Hey, there's my favorite grandma." Catra greeted.
"Catra! What a nice surprise." The old lady said.
"Need some help?" Catra offered.
"Sure! Do you expect Madam Razz to lift all these heavy boxes!?" Madam Razz was about to turn, but Catra knew it was in the direction of the surprise Wrordak had for her.
"No! No. No! I mean, I mean… not yet. I mean, I came to, uh, I just wanted to talk." Catra was probably the smoothest magicat ever, right? Whatever.
"Ok." Madam Razz definitely thought, that was weird.
"Um…"
"Catra. Are you in trouble?" Madam Razz asked, with worry, clear on her face.
"No! No. I mean I'm a may be a little behind on my rent, but no. I'm fine." Catra assured her.
"Is this about Mara?" What?
"What? Oh! Oh, no! And it's Adora, not Mara."
"Madam Razz still wishes you and Mara could work things out. She's a great girl--"
"It's Adora, and she is, but…"
"The two of you could get married, have a nice home, adopt." WHAT!!!?
"Wow!" Ok. Madam Razz didn't need to plan out her life. Catra's doing just fine.
"Catra. What is it?" Madam Razz sat down.
"Come on." She offered the seat next to her. And Catra accepted.
"These past few years—You helping me through college and working here… Sacrificing so much, and asking for nothing. I just wish there were more people like you in the world." Aww.
"She's right." Wrordak said. Finally ready with the surprise.
"Five years ago, you walked in here and told me you were inspired by my mission to help others. Now it's you who inspires me." Extra aww.
"Thank you, Razz, for everything." Madam Razz's heart was so warmed. She was definitely gonna cry.
"Here's to many more years of service!" Wrordak finished, and started clapping, followed by the rest of the party clapping.
Madam Razz bawled her eyes out.
-
After helping Razz stop crying, Catra went to talk to Wrordak.
"Thanks again for setting all this up." Catra thanked him.
"Oh, I just wish I could do more." Wrordak wished.
"Well, Razz's always told me, 'If you help someone--"
"'--You help everyone.'" Wrordak chuckled.
"Ah, perhaps we should send Razz to City Hall to have a word with the mayor…" Wrordak joked.
Catra's phone got an alert.
"Oh, I gotta run. Um, thanks again for the party and everything. It really means a lot." Catra left for work.
-
The Magicat quickly went to the alarm, and got into the air vents for stealth. Being part cat helps a lot when it comes to stealth. How much more silent and deadly do you think a cat could be?
Through the vents, The Magicat found where the trouble was coming from.
A bunch of weird men, wearing masks. The one who pulled the alarm must be the woman they're terrorizing.
"I am losing my patience. Where is the file." Intimidation 101.
"There's someone else here – they must have taken it!" The woman said, shaking in fear.
"Those masks… who are these guys?" Who are they indeed.
"There's no one here but us. We will find the file." The masked man said.
"Or you will die." Ok, the situation is worse.
"This is bad. They'll kill her if I alert them. Need to pick 'em off silently." The Magicat heeded. The only surprise there will be, is the enemies.
The Magicat made her way, through the vents. Unnoticed, until it was too late. They were no match for her, The Magicat of Brightmoon City. Nothing could surprise her! Ever!
Wait. She knows that camera!
"This totally belongs to-"
"Don't move." One of the masked men held a gun to her back. He clearly overestimated his place in this situation.
"Pal. It wouldn't matter who got who by surprise, I'd still-" The Magicat could expect a number of surprises. But the masked thug getting knocked out cold, was not one of them.
"Hey Catra." Catr- The Magicat knew who this was. The same blonde poof, the same red jacket, the same cute smile. It was Adora! But what in the world was she doing here!?
"Adora… what are you doing here?" The Magicat asked.
"Same as you, working." Adora answered.
"At least, I was."
"Think this is yours." The Magicat gave her, her camera back.
"Yeah. Thanks." Adora took her camera.
"So, is covering break-ins a regular thing for you?" The Magicat questioned.
"Well, it wasn't a break in until a few minutes ago." Her friend answered.
"Huh?"
"Well, let me explain." Adora started to explain.
-
15 Minutes Earlier
Adora had just arrived. And she was going to get a scoop about, Tung Lashor's smuggling. But she wasn't going to tell, Rose Rosemann about that.
Adora had a thing, where she ended up in places she wasn't supposed to be in, and The Magicat just found that infuriating!
Anyways, this isn't about what The Magicat does, or does not like. This is Adora's story.
"Uh – excuse me?" Rose Rosemann asked.
"Hi, Adora Grayskull. I'm covering the Lashor estate sale?" Adora asked back.
"Hello… Craig said we'd do this tomorrow. Rose Rosemann informed.
"I like to get a jump on things." Adora informed back.
"Well I don't. You'll have to come back tomorrow." Okay, that was a little rude.
"Right, Ok. I'm sorry." Said Adora, before she started to walk out. Before she reached the door, she pulled out her phone, and called someone.
"Hey Craig… No, sorry, just… It looks like we're gonna have to run something else on the cover… I don't know, uh-- maybe the expressionist piece?" Thankfully, Adora was sneaky, 'cuz that got Rose Rosemann's Attention.
"You know what. I think I can make today work." Rose Rosemann said.
"Are you sure?" Adora asked.
"You're here. No moment like the present." Rose Rosemann told her.
"Thank you. Craig? Nevermind. We're good." Adora finished her phone call.
"Let's get started." Rose Rosemann's full name was too good to not use.
"-of motor vehicles. For english, press '1'…" Adora hung up her phone. She was real sneaky.
-
Real. Sneaky. After taking a few pictures, Adora pretended that she needed to go, and use the ladies room, but instead, she snuck into an office, and found a top secret file!
Something about, Death's Touch? Sounds dangerous! In all seriousness, this will be important, later on in the story, but I'm pretty sure you know that.
Suddenly, masked men! This was Adora's cue to leave!
-
"I was on my way to the exit when I saw you…" Adora said.
"You're lucky to be alive…" The Magicat exclaimed.
"Says the girl I saved five minutes ago." Adora replied.
Adora grabbed the file she stole, and showed it to The Magicat.
"Listen, whoever these masked guys are, they're after this file. But I'll never get it out of here while the place is swarming with them." She told The Magicat.
"Right. You hide back there, I'll take them out, and you get out when it's clear." The Magicat planned.
"Sounds like a plan."
Adora went on her way to hide, but she turned to say something.
"Good to see you, Catra."
"Yeah you too. Not exactly how I pictured us meeting again, though." The Magicat replied.
Adora was about to go through the door before she answered.
"Funny. It's exactly how I pictured it." Adora was gone.
The Magicat had to admit, Adora was slick. Right! She was supposed to take care of the masked men. Gotta stay focused.
-
'You gotta stay focused, Magicat.' She scolded herself. She needed to concentrate if she was gonna take down the masked men.
'Just stay focu- is that Adora!?' She was right. The masked men found Adora, and the file.
When they held their guns to Adora, The Magicat busted down the doors, and got their attention. Giving the two girls time to escape.
The Magicat could handle these guys, they just had guns like any other goon! What the- one of them has an energy blade!? Ok, who are these people!? Why are they so fast!? How are they so strong!?
What the heck is going on!? Alright, that doesn't matter, no right now. She just needs to survive.
"So, what's your deal, guys? You wanna become the next super villains? I only accept the best of the best, but it looks like you don't match up to my standards!" The Magicat taunted.
"What? Are you supposed to be the strong and silent type of thugs? I hate those kinds!" She yelled.
The Magicat fought them with courage, and in the end she was victorious! She never had to fight a bunch of goons using this much effort, but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle.
Once she was sure they were all out, she went to inspect one of the masked men. The masks were monstrous in design, and ones wearing them, she swore she brought these guys to jail! How did they get so strong?
She'll get answers. Sooner or later.
-
In the aftermath, the Police were handling things, and Adora still had something to ask, as she started recording on her phone.
"I just talked to Craig. You are not the reporter he was sending. You don't even work for Heritage Arts." Rose Rosemann accused, but that didn't stop Adora.
"Never said I did." She held out her hand, and introduced herself.
"Hi. Adora Grayskull. Daily Frost."
"You… you will not write a word of what you saw here." Rose Rosemann told her.
"For the record, what do you know about the file those masked men stole?" Adora asked.
"That… I don't…"
"What about the long history of stolen goods Lashor has laundered at this auction house?" Adora continued.
"Your editor will be hearing from our attorney." Rose Rosemann stormed off.
Adora's phone received a message.
Catra: Hey you ok?
Adora: Fine. But they got away with the file. Were you scared for me?
Catra: No! Get over yourself!
Adora: How 'bout we go grab a bite, or something?
Catra: Sure, dinner at Pete's?
"Pete's? Like the last six months never happened?" Adora muttered.
Adora: Sure, see you in a few.
-
"Since when did Pete's become italian?"
"No idea… but I'm still glad he makes these fries."
"Totally, best in the city."
Catra, and Adora were at Pete's. One of their favorite restaurants.
"So, how's the grind at the Frost?" Catra asked.
"Mm well… yeah well, I just got an all-caps text from Juliet about my-
so-called 'antics' tonight. So, looks like I'll be meeting with the legal team. Again." Adora stated.
"Nah, soon as she reads the article you're gonna write, you'll definitely get a promotion." Catra declared.
"So. Creepy mask guys. What's your take?" Adora asked, with interest.
"Just some more butt to kick. What's your take?"
"Hm. I feel like there's a bigger story there… let's not make this all about business. How's it going with you? Did you get that promotion?" She asked.
"No, but we're close to a new breakthrough." Catra told her.
"You know Hordecorp would hire you in a heartbeat, right? One phone call to Hordak…" Adora suggested.
"Sure. But Dr. Light Spinner's work will help millions. I'm not giving up on her." Catra stated.
This was surpising to Adora. The Catra she knew wasn't really the kind to make friends.
"Sounds like you really care for her. I've never heard you talk about someone like that, other than Razz."
"A lot can change in six months." Catra said.
"So, why did you wanna come here, Catra?" Adora asked.
"You know, just dinner between friends." She replied.
"Friends? Is that what we are?" Adora questioned.
"We could be. If that's what you want."
"Well, what do you want, Catra?" She asked.
"Uh. I don't really know? There are a lot of things I want. I want to help Razz, I want to help Light Spinner, I want to be there for you." Catra told her.
"Catra. Do you remember why we broke up?" Adora asked her.
Catra hesitated before answering. "This is a trick question, isn't it?"
Before she could come up with an answer, Police cars were speeding through the streets.
"Saved by the siren." Adora muttered.
"Talk to you later?" Catra asked.
"Go."
Catra jumped out of her seat, and ran out the door. Leaving Adora to herself.
Adora noticed the owner of the restaurant, a guy with short brown hair, brown eyes, and a nice smile. This was Pete.
"I love seeing you two together again. You were always my favorite couple." He told her.
Adora smiled at that, and headed out.
-
And that's the end of this chapter. I know I could have used some characters like Shadow Weaver for Mister Negative, or Hordak for Dr. Octavius, heck, I could have used She-Ra as the main character!
But then, that would make this story more predictable, and I wanted to challenge myself.
I'm sure you recognize Peter, but whether or not, he used to be Spider-Man in this universe is up to you guys and girls and people of unspecified genders.
