Chapter Eight
Peace Never Lasts
Wrordak was gonna be at the Expo, which was all that Adora knew. The problem was, what does he want there? Hordecorp was hosting an Expo for their latest tech, so it could be anything.
To anyone, the tech they're developing would seem amazing, but to Adora, it would seem that Prime is trying to make magic obsolete. Most of everything here could easily be done with a spell.
It seemed that Hordecorp was always one step ahead of opposing companies. Catra, unfortunately, knew what that felt like. Hordak used to offer her a job at Hordecorp's magic division, but she always refused.
They all used to be happy together. Adora, Catra, Hordak, and Wrordak. Sometimes, they would confuse him for his brother, which ended up with the reaction "Wrong Hordak". After that, the name stuck, and they shortened it to Wrordak.
"Adora."
Adora was pulled back to reality, and she turned to the voice. He was standing right in front her, a frown covered his face. It's been a while since they last saw each other.
"Wrordak." Adora said.
"This will be easier for everyone if you remain calm, and do as I say." Wrordak warned her.
Adora turned, and called for help, but Wrordak grabbed onto her. Before anyone knew it, the Beasts had taken everyone hostage. Wrordak had taken a generator from the Expo. He was going to use it to blow this place up.
When everything was ready, Wrordak took out a phone, and made a call.
"I would like to speak to the Mayor." Wrordak said.
"Who's calling?" The Assistant asked.
"His brother." He answered.
"Ah, it's been a while, little bother."
Wrordak scowled at hearing his smug voice. "Yes, it has. I want you here, at the ground floor."
"Yes, the Expo." Prime acknowledged.
"You have thirty minutes." Wrordak growled.
Wrordak opened a case, and inside was a glowing canister, green in color. He pulled it out, and inserted it into the generator, a device that could be powered by almost any power source.
Adora pulled out her phone, and texted Catra.
Adora: Get to the Hordecorp Expo.
Adora: Give them a surprise.
With backup on the way, Adora began waiting. If The Magicat doesn't win this, then Wrordak is gonna blow this place up using Death's Touch. It can't end up like last time.
Adora kept looking for The Magicat, and after a few minutes she showed up, out of anyone's sight but hers. Adora looked around to make sure no one would notice, and casted an invisibility spell on herself. With no one able to see her, she went to where she saw The Magicat.
Unfortunately, a Beast followed her and tried to bring her back alone. Thankfully, The Magicat had her back, and caught the goon off guard. She made quick work of him, with kick to his head.
"Looks like that invisibility spell didn't help." The Magicat joked.
"It worked, didn't it?" Adora said.
"You need to get out of here." The Magicat told her.
"What about Wrordak?" Adora asked.
"I'll deal with him later." The Magicat answered.
"No, we're in this together, Catra. You need to stop him now." The look on Adora's face told The Magicat that she wasn't gonna back down on this.
"Fine, when everyone's attacking me, you get the hostages out. I swear, you can be such a princess sometimes." The Magicat groaned.
"Excuse me?" Adora put her hands on her hips.
"Nothing." The Magicat quickly left without another word.
"I'm not a princess, you are." Adora muttered.
That plan will be more difficult to pull off with Wrordak taken into account. She'll deal with him when she has to, but right now, she'll settle with fighting his men.
She made her way to the opposite end of the room, when they start fighting with her, Adora could sneak off with the hostages. She found the perfect guard, and decided to ruin his day with a good hard kick.
"You know, when you don't invite someone to the party, they'll certainly be ticked off about it. And this cat's really ticked."
Every Beast noticed her now, and aimed their guns at her, but she was too fast for them to get a good shot. She sliced the closest one's gun in two, then she kicked him in the head.
She ran towards another one and slid behind him, then she tripped him and slammed his head into the ground. Another one moved towards her and tried to hit her, but she ducked and kicked him in the chest, knocking him down. When he got back up, she jumped on top of him and flipped him over.
The Magicat looked over to see Adora, getting the hostages to safety. Yeah. She loved that woman. She heard someone trying to attack her from behind, and she flipped behind him and pounced on him.
She jumped to the next guy and kicked him away, then she went behind another Beast and threw him to the other one before he got up.
"You're ruining everything." Wrordak growled.
"Aw, and I bet you were all excited, weren't you?" The Magicat taunted.
Wrordak swung a punch at her, but she ducked back, then back flipped when he went for another.
"You did so well last time. Did you forget how to fight, or was it just luck?" The Magicat said, as she dodged another hit.
"Stop talking, you ignoramus pest!" Wrordak hissed.
"Oh, I'm so offended by that remark~" The Magicat chuckled.
Wrordak grabbed onto her, and threw her against the wall. Just as she regained her senses, he hit her again and sent her flying. He swung his fist, but she dodged this time and kicked him in the back.
"You're looking pale, are you tired?" She asked.
"Only of you, but that could be remedied." Wrordak said.
"I've got a remedy for ya." The Magicat punched him in the face, then she kicked him in the head. He grabbed her incoming fist, and punched her in return.
"If you were a hero, you'd help me rid this city from Prime!" Wrordak yelled.
"What did he do that was worse than what you did?" The Magicat asked.
"It wasn't just me he hurt." He growled.
He tried to hit her again, but she ducked under him and gave him an uppercut. She tried to slash her claws at him, but he blocked her arm and threw her away.
"You know, I used to think you were a good person." She told him.
"Yes, but it takes a monster to fight another monster." He remarked.
The Magicat hesitated at this, but resumed fighting him. She drop kicked him, and pounced him before he could regain balance.
"You're wrong. It takes a hero to stop one." She finished the fight, and knocked him out.
With him out of the way, she went to stop the bomb. Using magic to override it won't work, since it can be powered by almost any kind of energy source, so that's out of the question.
She opened a compartment and went the old fashioned way. Cutting some wires. Unfortunately, most of Hordetech had two colors: white and black. The generator fell into that category.
The generator could overcharge and blow up at any moment, but she still doesn't have enough time to find out which wire would either shut it off, or blow it up.
'Ugh, if only you had actual taste, Prime.' The Magicat groaned, trying to decide which one to cut.
If she chose the wrong one, she could see the words written on her tombstone. "The hero of Brightmoon, fallen to her demise by her own stupidity."
If she chose the right one, she could see the headline. "The menace of Brightmoon attacks hard working citizen, Wrordak."
She didn't care if she had one minute to decide, or twenty minutes. If she didn't choose, it wouldn't matter anyway.
SNIK!
After opening her eyes, she could hear the generator powering down. She breathed a sigh of relief, and gave herself a pat on the back. She turned to see Wrordak's unconscious body. The problem last time, was thinking of him as a good person. Even now, she had her doubts.
She decided that she would put him in jail for now. If he doesn't change when he gets out, then she'll put him back in.
-
The Hunters escorted Wrordak to Beast Island, a high security prison, filled with the most dangerous criminals of Brightmoon. How ironic. With Wrordak taken care of, the city was finally at peace.
The Magicat decided to relish in this peace, and began texting Adora.
Catra: I just sent Wrordak to prison.
Adora: Ok, don't phrase it like that again, ever.
Catra: Fine, I sent the owner of the F.E.A.S.T shelter to live in a cell. Happy now, princess?
Adora: I'm not a princess! Stop being annoying.
Catra: So what's it like, saving the city for your first time?
Adora: I barely did anything.
Catra: This is what you wanted, so don't start doubting yourself. Besides, I could get you your own suit~
Adora: Don't joke, okay?
Catra: I'd better leave something for your poof. Don't want it to suffocate.
Adora: You're asking for it, aren't you?
Catra: Maybe. But maybe I could make it up to you. Thursday at six?
Adora: I'll think about it.
The Magicat smirked. That meant yes. It's been a long day, so she decided to go to her other work.
-
At the lab, it was darker than usual, which put her off. The only source of light coming from the TV. It sort of smelled off too. Catra didn't like this.
"Light. Are you there?" Catra called out.
"Catra! I'm glad you could join me." Light Spinner said.
Catra finally noticed her, in the dark. She seemed to be enjoying herself.
"What's with the lighting? I thought the power bill was already paid." Catra asked.
To her surprise, the shadows began to recede. And in the light, she realized that the gem was placed on Light Spinner's forehead.
"I've already refined the spell, and now it can draw more power from the shadows themselves. It can even create even more complex forms now." To prove this, she created an exact duplicate of herself and Catra from shadows.
"We've finally done it Catra." Light Spinner said, overjoyed at their accomplishment.
"But we haven't tested it out." Catra reminded her.
"What's there to test, when we are already finished? Look, Catra." Light Spinner pointed her to her runework.
Catra read it over, she could barely recognize any of it. And the ones she did, were banned magic. She wanted to believe that Light Spinner wasn't making a mistake, that this was normal, but what she felt from this spell, the power it gave. She knew what it was. It was a long forgotten magic, one that was thought to be lost forever.
Dark magic.
Fear overtook Catra, as she realized at what they had done. At what she had done.
"Light Spinner. We can't do this. We have to start over." Catra told her.
"Start over!? We can't start over. Not when we're this close!" Light Spinner yelled. The shadows started growing again.
"They'll never let this get out. Not if it turns you into this. You're not a monster." Catra stared at the shadows.
Light Spinner looked as well, and saw what it was doing to her. She did this to help people. She wasn't a monster.
"You're right, Catra. We'll start over." Light Spinner took off the gem.
"We'll fix it." Catra assured.
"We will." She said.
"Yes. I'll start right now. I'll see you tomorrow" Light Spinner told her.
"Will you be ok?" Catra asked.
"Yes, I just needed some help, seeing things clearly. Thank you, Catra." Light Spinner said.
When Catra was sure that she would be fine on her own, she left for F.E.A.S.T. Light Spinner will fix everything.
"We now take you live to Hordecorp where Mayor Prime is about to address the media…"
Light Spinner turned, and listened to the news.
"My brother is now behind bars. With the threat gone, we can finally rebuild, and we'll be stronger than ever. I will make sure that this never happens again. You can trust my words. Now, and always." Prime assured the press.
"Liar!" Light Spinner roared, sending a tendril of shadow straight through the screen.
"You have no idea what you're in for." She growled.
The shadows will fix everything.

Madam Razz was in the middle of baking a delicious pie. She was about to get a bowl filled with berries, and to her surprise there was a bowl in front of her, held by a long furry tail.
"Catra! My sweet little kitten!" Razz Exclaimed.
"Granny, so how was your day?" Catra asked her.
"It was great, Catra. I've made so many pies." Razz told her.
"You should give yourself a break, and let me do it." Catra said.
"Don't be silly, kitten. I'll be fine." Madam Razz said.
Catra really didn't want to bring it up, but Wrordak and Razz were close. They were known as the nicest people on this side of Brightmoon.
"So, have you heard from Wrordak since?" She asked.
"No. The Wrordak I knew was a very different man. Very different. So, how's Mara these days?" Madam Razz asked her.
"It's Adora, but she's fine." Catra answered.
"The two of you remind me of your parents. They were so beautiful together." Madam Razz said.
"Do you think they wouldn't mind, if I was going out with her?" Catra asked her.
"Yes, kitten. They would love you no matter what." Madam Razz answered.
Their conversation was interrupted by the news as it revealed a Hunters truck that was recently destroyed. Someone had taken the Death's Touch.
"Things used to be very different before, Catra." Madam Razz turned around, only to find that Catra was absent.
They used to be different, but one thing's for sure. Peace never really lasts.

And that's another chapter. You better get ready, readers. Next chapter, we're getting a bunch more characters, a bunch more story to tell, and our hero will be in the fight of her life!
If you know anything about The Dark Knight Returns, you'd be able to tell that I based The Magicat's victory against Wrordak off of Batman's victory over the Mutant Leader. Spoiler alert, Batman lost because of his fighting style, then he fixed that flaw. The Magicat lost to Wrordak because she was worried about the man she knew.
She was able to beat him by not making that mistake again. Or was it a mistake?
