Chapter 5: The first colours

Tails kept flying in the sky. Everything looked wonderful; it was paradise to him. But he still had the feeling of a deja vu. He looked at the wisps flying around, playing many games and having the time of their lives.

Tails started to feel a bit tired, he had flown for 1 hour straight. A white wisp saw the fox and said,

"Hi, stranger! Mind if I give you a boost?"

"Sure," replied Tails.

The white wisp does something the fox didn't expect: the little creature fused with him. Tails felt a surge of energy fire him up. He zoomed, faster than his maximum flight speed.

After a while, he slowed down, returning to his regular speed. The fox and the wisp separated from each other.

"Looks like his energy has been expended," said the fox, "but on the bright side, it was an amazing experience"

Tails made friends with more wisps, tapping into some more abilities. He took notes about each breed of wisps and their powers.

"The wisps all love me!" he said joyfully.

Later that evening, the fox was setting up his campsite. It has been a colourful and bright day for him. For a moment, he forgot about the lurking danger while lost in his memories.

Suddenly, an unknown figure attacked him. The fox recovered quickly, looking at the attacker. It was a rocket wisp, except that it was bluish-gray and had a scary violet-blue aura.

Tails tried to attack the alien using his tails but missed, leaving an open spot where the alien struck him down.

"Oh, that's it!" yelled Tails. "Oh, just wait until I get the Blue Cube!"

A blue wisp flies in and fuses with Tails, thus transforming the latter into a large blue cube that knocked out the evil wisp. The blue wisp soon separates from the fox and glows, restoring the knocked-out wisp to its true colour. The latter wakes up and zooms away.

"Whoa, how did you manage to turn Orange back to normal?" asked Tails in shock.

"I gave some of my Hyper-go-on energy to the poor fellow," explained Blue, "when wisps are drained completely of their energy, they go berserk and turn dark."

"Whoa, that's interesting!" exclaimed Tails. "But what happened to the wisps who fused into me?"

"They only lent you half of their energy to tap into their abilities," replied the wisp. "with some remaining, they can recharge. However, they are unable to do that when completely drained."

"That makes sense. It's like... their energy is their colour..."

"Yes," nodded the wisp. "Well, I need to go now. See you later."

"Bye!" waved Tails.

After when the wisp went out of sight, Tails scratched his head.

"Is this the ability that Jaytee was describing all along?" he said to himself. "The ability to tap into the wisps' powers?"

"Anyone can do that," said Yacker, hovering towards the fox. "don't count on it 100%. That's only a simple ability. When your friends mentioned your hidden ability, it is a special ability. An ability and a special ability are very different from each other when you think deep because a special one is what makes you unique."

"I'm confused," replied Tails, "I'm already unique because I have the ability to fly using my two tails. Isn't that already a special ability?"

"No," said the ambassador, "it is not a special ability but I see your point because it is a unique way of flying. But being able to fly is not a special ability unless you are the only one in the world who can do that. Inheriting a special ability is still a special ability because it belongs in the bloodline."

"Ah," nodded the fox.

"Time is running out, Tails," warned Yacker. "you need to start being deeper in what you comprehend and finish the jigsaw puzzle of who you are."

The wisp pauses, and then makes an unexpected confession. He said,

"I keep saying that I can't tell you what your special ability is. But actually, I do not have a clear picture of what it is by word or by visual description. Nor do I know the real reason for your special connection with my kind. All I know is that you are the Chosen One, the being who can save the worlds from total disaster and destruction."

Tails nods, knowing that he needs to step up his game.

"There is no turning back, I must go now, so please commit my words into memory. Remember to believe in yourself and keep going, this will help you find who you really are and show your true colours."

"I will," said Tails, confidently. "thank you, Yacker!"

"You have a lot of potentials to succeed," replied the wisp, as they both parted ways.
