Most characters belong to S. Meyer. The rest belong to me. All mistakes are mine.

Chapter 7 – Pitfalls

'The Pitfalls of Love' – a (frequent) recitation by Renee Higginbotham (Mom):

"It's a delusion; it's how small-minded men dictate your path. Bella, don't fall for the small-town man with the small-town mentality. You'll never escape."

OOOOO

Ten Years Earlier:

We strolled the Seattle waterfront side-by-side.

"Long way from NYU, aren't you?"

"I flew in to surprise Al."

Were his eyes always emeralds? His grin mesmerizing?

"And she's away," he chuckled. "Ironic."

Or…fated.

Mom would abhor that thought.

"L.A. weekend with James," I smirked. "So, I came sightseeing."

"Alone?"

"Sure. Unless…" I swallowed, "wanna tag along?"

Emerald eyes held mine. "I'd love to."
