A/N: Thanks so much for all your wonderful thoughts!
First update of the day! I've heard from some of you that fanfiction is being a B*tch again, and some of you haven't been getting alerts for chapter postings. If you're still not getting alerts, check fanfiction regularly. Chapters to this story are getting posted about three times a day. Or, you can also check out my Facebook page, Stories by PattyRose, or my Twitter, PattyRosa817. There are posts in both places whenever I've updated. (Along with a pic on Facebook to go with the chapter) ;)
Most characters belong to S. Meyer. The rest belong to me. All mistakes are mine.
Chapter 16 - Pretending
PRESENT:
Edward turns away from me, Adam's apple bobbing. "Damn."
"Edward, look at me. Please."
Eyes like wounded emeralds revert back toward me.
"Love is a delusion; it's how small-minded men dictate our paths, and if I ever fell for the small-town man with the small-town mentality…I'd never escape."
"What…the hell-"
"It's what I was taught, continuously, growing up-"
His gaze narrows.
"-and I'm not transferring blame, not when I'm old enough to see that I chose to panic, to lie to myself and hurt you…fail us by pretending that…that if I left quietly…we could both pretend it never happened."
