"That morning, when I reached for you, and my hand brushed cold sheets…

For a moment, I did think I'd imagined a near-flawless weekend: gray skies enhancing sparkling eyes, background raindrops against never-ending conversation, an ebullient smile as the sunshine. The imperfection? A sweet arrogance that made you…perfect.

It was that arrogance, with its appeal eradicated," I smile wistfully, "that later defined my memories of you."

"Edward, I'm so-"

"No," I breathe, cradling her face. "No. I didn't know it was fear, so I named it Arrogance. Then, I trumped it."

"I…" she frowns.

"Bella, you fled. I never followed."
