A/N: An Everlark one-shot.
Summary: Katniss and Peeta spend the night at Peeta's house where she tells him she loves him!
Peeta hands me a cup of hot chocolate before topping up the logs on the fire and coming back to sit next to me, wrapping one of his arms around me. I tuck my legs underneath me and lean against him, my head on his shoulder.
"This is nice." I say gently as we watch the fire roaring away in the fireplace. Peeta hums in agreement as he weaves his fingers through my hair. "We should do this more often now the cameras aren't watching our every move." Peeta suggests. I nod because I like the thought of spending time with him without cameras filming our every word, or every move, every kiss. "I'm glad they've gone back to The Capitol where they belong, they were starting to scare Prim." Peeta frowns, he's been very protective of Prim since we got home from The Games, which makes all three of us happy.
I finish my hot chocolate and look at Peeta, the embers from the fire making his skin glow and more handsome than he already is
In The Games, I faked the majority of our romance for the cameras to keep us both alive, but a tiny bit of me knew I loved him when I kissed him before we both attempted sucide with the berries, but I just haven't the heart to tell him that I love him the way he loves me.
"Peeta, I need to tell you something." I tell him, my voice quiet. Peeta looks at me in the eye, he takes my hand and squeezes it.
"Peeta, in The Games, I faked the majority of our romance for the cameras but a tiny bit of me loved you the way you loved me, the way I kissed you before we attempted suicide with the berries was me telling you that I loved you, not just for the cameras, you just didn't think about it that way." Peeta ducks his head in shame. "Peeta, look at me, please." I say, well more like order him, he looks at me, guilt shining in his blue eyes.
"Don't feel guilty about it please." I tell him, my hand squeezing his.
"Peeta, listen to me: I love you so much." I tell him. In an instant, Peeta's lips are on mine and we're kissing.
He pulls away when air becomes a necessity for both of us. His soft fingers trace up and down my cheek as his crystal blue eyes lock on mine.
"You have no idea how long I've been waiting to hear you say those words." Peeta says with a soft smile.
"I'm sorry it took me so long to say it back." Peeta rolls his eyes at me fondly.
"You know that I would've waited until my last dying breath to hear you say those words." Peeta says before kissing me again.
We fall asleep after making out for the next few hours.
"Goodnight, my Girl on Fire." Peeta says, pressing a kiss to my temple as I fall asleep on his shoulder.
