POKéMON GO

Chapter Six: The Access

"I know we're doing this out of either curiosity, because we want to help or because this is Pokémon-"

"Just skip to the point, Rog." Jerry said shaking his head in annoyance.

"I'm just saying I wish we had help."

"We do." Brit said. "We have an advantage. I have the power to see into Pokémon Go. I can see what people, places and things we might come across."

"It's like you're a superhero now." Roger stated.

"No, not really. I think it was just an accident." Brit suggested. "If it is, might as well put it to good use."

"You've been given a gift, Brit." Red said. "Use it well."

"Thanks." she said to him.

"So I guess…you don't need your phone anymore?" Jack held up her phone so that she can take it.

"I guess not…but…you hold onto it, OK?" she asked rather sincerely.

"Alright." Jack nodded. He felt a bit elated.

"Let's head on to Viridian City then." Red said.

"Viridian City? Dude, this place is just a town in the middle of nowhere. Better yet, it's a ghost town. There's not much here." Jerry said. "You sure you know what you're doing, Brit?"

"Look, I know this is going to be difficult to ask for you guys but I'm asking you all...to trust me."

"I do." Jack was the first to say among them.

No more questions were asked, immediately they then made their way into the unknown town. The unknown town that Brit said was Viridian City. Everybody not only took her word for it but they were now following her lead. It was a complete turn of events given what she tried to do. Brit focused her vision to change. But so far, nothing was coming to her. She didn't want to say anything for fear of losing confidence among the group.

"Found anything, Brit?" Jack asked as she walked by her side.

"Just looking for anything out of the ordinary." Brit said. "...with the exception of our current predicament." she scoffed.

"Can't believe how quickly we got into this." Jack said.

"Regret it?"

"I don't know." Jack said thinking deeply. "I just don't know. Sometimes I feel like going off like Roger and just keep on saying that we're in way over our heads. We're not like you, Brit. I don't know if I'm that strong. If any of us are, rather."

"Well, here's the thing..." Brit began. "You haven't gone the Roger route. And that's a start. That's saying something. You caught a pokémon. You even had the courage of bringing up what went down with my mom."

"I didn't mean-"

"I'm not mad. Not anymore. It took a lot of guts of you. It did. It even made me think whether I'll go down the path of my mother. I don't want to die like her. I want to keep going. Bottom line? You're stronger than you realize." she said.

Jack felt over the moon by Brit's words of encouragement and it was the best he felt in a long time.

"So what's this whole deal with Mewtwo? You say you guys actually saw him?"

"Sort of. Just popped up out of nowhere. Didn't stay for long, much less say anything that could help us." Jack said.

"Because why make it easy for us, huh?" a sardonic Brit asked. "Do you have any theories as to what the purpose was of just getting a picture of him? Because I just...don't get it."

"None of us do." Jack said. "But yeah I have an idea. I don't know if it's a good one."

"I'm all ears."

"OK, here's one question. Why take a picture of someone? Of anything?"

Brit pondered. "To keep it for memories. To show it to yourself whenever you feel the need to relive an event. Or even show it to someone-"

"Exactly. To show it to someone. That's the thing. We need to find someone who wants Mewtwo's picture. But so far, we haven't seen anything on the app yet." Jack said now donning and utilizing Brit's phone.

"Neither do I. I think we have to get in deeper."

"See any towns or buildings, Brit?" Red asked behind them.

"Nothing yet..wait..."

"What is it?" Jack asked.

Brit squinted her eyes and focused. "I see a small store up ahead. I think it's a..." she ran. The others did so as well. All to get a good look. "Yes...it's a pokéstop."

"Can you see right through it? Find out if it's legit or not?" Roger asked.

Brit gave a scoff. "It's not X-Ray vision, Roger." she said annoyed.

"We got to find something there that can help us." Jerry said. "I'm desperate for anything at this point."

"Wait...I'm getting something. My vision's acting up again. Wow...it's more colorful than what I saw a second ago..." Brit said in wonder.

"Yo, what does the whole town look like Brit?" Roger asked.

"Yes, please tell us." Red agreed.

"It's beautiful. I see grassy fields, fences, houses and whoa!" she ducked much to the confusion of the group.

"What? What is it?" Jack asked.

She switched back to her normal mode. Her normal vision at once.

"A Butterfree! A Butterfree flew right past me!" she told them.

"It's true..." Jack said holding up the app. "I can see it here."

On the small screen, a small dot that was easily identified as the Butterfree appeared next to the group.

"Surprises are still in store. It's like there's enough for everyone." Roger muttered. "It's cool though."

"Alright, everyone done?" Jerry asked them all. "Let's go to this imaginary Pokéstop then."

"No telling me twice." Red said walking already. and he walked beside Brit, who had her vision readjusted. Jack and the others were behind them now.

"It's like you're part of a new world now." he stated.

"Is that supposed to be a greeting?" Brit said.

"I just hope you can handle it is all."

"You don't think I can do this?"

"It's not about that. I just believe that all this power will get the better of you one day."

"That won't happen. I mean, you don't know that, Red. You don't know 'me'."

"True. But I've seen many times, throughout my experiences and travels...of what power does to some people."

"I won't go down such a path, Red." Brit said firmly.

"Alright then..." Red said and left it at that. They arrived to their point of destination. The so-called Pokéshop.

"OK...this is out of left field." Roger frowned while he and the others stared at the small building.

The Pokéshop in question was not a rundown shack. But clean. Sturdy. It looked out of place in such a deserted area.

"We're all seeing this, right?" Jerry told everyone but looked at Brit mostly.

"Yeah..." Jack said. "This looks brand new..."

"No..." Red said walking forward while never taking his eyes off of the store. "This is...this is exactly like the ones I have in my world. Very detailed and accurate."

"It's exactly the same?" Jack frowned.

"Oh, yes." Red nodded.

"How did it get here?"

"We do have some pokémon all over the world giving the ecosystem a workout. What's one more building from another world?" Roger shrugged.

"What do you think?" Jack asked Red and then turned to Brit, who also seemed at a los.

"Oh hell...we can stay here and be in awe until eternity or..." Roger began.

"We can just go in." Jerry agreed.

"Let's go."

They went in without no more hesitation. Inside, it was so glamorous and advanced. There were items on shelves placed in the center of the interior of the store. A man, supposedly the cashier stood by his station with a smile on his face.

"Uh...hi?" Brit was the first to speak.

"Can I help you, young people?"

"Uh...we're just-" Roger began to say.

"We just want answers." Red interrupted him. "What is this place? Who are you?"

"Well, I'm the cashier! Everyone knows that!" the man piped up cheerfully. "Red? Red! So good to finally meet you! Heard so much about you. I was beginning to think you weren't going to show!"

"What do you mean?"

"And you can talk?" the cashier said in amazement. "I heard from people that you don't talk much. The 'silent trainer' they called you. I guess it was just a rumor. Now, I believe you have something for me?"

"Uh...maybe you can remind us what we're supposed to give you?" Roger asked carefully.

"The Heiroscope is in your possession, yes?" the man asked Red.

"Uh...yes...yes...it is." Red said.

"May I see it, please?"

Red took the strange object out of his backpack and handed it to the man. With both hands, the cashier studied it with a thorough eye. "Hmmm...looks like it works. Now it is time to put it to use."

"On what? Where?" Brit asked.

"Here." the cashier said cheerfully. "See that door?"

Everyone saw a strange wooden door located at the back of the store.

"That door hasn't been opened for who knows when. Only by translating the scriptures on that door, can it be opened."

"How do we use it?" Red asked going over the object in his hands.

"Nothing to it!" the man said happily. "Just put your eye to the lens and it will show you the translation."

"Let's see." Jack said.

Red did so while pointing the object at the door. Sure enough, he saw strange writing.

"I see symbols. They're dancing around."

"That means the Heiroscope is working. It's unlocking the door!" the cashier said in amazement.

The door's mechanism clicked and it swung open. In awe at was inside, everyone concluded that the door was some sort of portal. There was nothing but swirling colorless energy inside. A nervous Jack thought if they were to go straight in, they would fall off the face of the Earth.

"I'm not going in there!" Roger said speaking for everyone.

"Seconded!" Jerry nodded in agreement.

Suddenly the door to the store burst open and the cashier was taken aback as was everyone else. A well-suited man came in. Someone familiar. But nobody could put their finger on it. Whoever he was, did not seem friendly. Not one bit. Everyone felt threatened by his mere presence.

"Hello...at long last..." he said to them. His eyes eventually fell on Red.

"You...!" Red said seething with fury.

"Hello, Red..." the man grinned evilly.

"Go! Now!" The cashier yelled at them.

Jack took the initiative. Whatever the portal led, it had to be a better alternative than what the mysterious man had planned for them. It seemed as if he had been searching them for quite some time.

"Come on!" he grabbed Jerry first. Then Roger.

"You kidding me?!"

"Jack, we don't know what's in there!"

"Better than being captured. Now come on! Red, let's go!" Jack called out to him.

Red paid no attention but remained focused on the imposing man at the doorway. "I'll stop you..."

"You can't!" Brit said to him. More people came in. Team Rocket members by the look of their uniforms. "We gotta go, Red!" she said.

Jack went in with a screaming Jerry and Roger in tow. "Brit!" he screamed before he too, went in.

"No. I'm staying!" Red said and held a pokéball at the ready.

"Sorry, Red..." she then punched him across the face, knocking him out cold. The force of the blow sent him inside. He disappeared into the abyss along with the others. Brit prepared to jump in herself.

Only for the door to swing close.

"No!" she tried pounding but it had no effect.

"Nowhere to go..." the man said.

Brit finally realized who the man was.

"You're Giovanni..."

"Oh...you've heard of me too? I'm touched. Now...you were explaining to me...why you shouldn't be the damsel in distress?" he smirked.

"I'm no damsel." she then took a glass object from the counter and threw it at them.

The glass broke sending waves of smoke. Everyone coughed. Brit took the chance to leave through the back.

"After her!" Giovanni yelled at his men.

Outside now, Brit ran through the woods that was a few blocks away from the store, as hard as she could. Going far and deep in through the forest, she arrived at a clearing, a field rather, where she found her friends up ahead just standing there, much to her relief.

"Guys! Oh, thank God! Guys..."

The area the group was in was a familiar one but not something they would ever be in. Their appearance was drastically altered. They were avatars of their true selves.

"This can't be..." Jerry said looking around. They appeared to be in a field. Or at least something that looks like a field.

"It is. We're in the Pokémon go app…" Jack realized. He was beyond amazed.

"What a new development..." Jerry sighed. "Can my life get any weirder?"

"I can't believe it." Roger said looking down at his new body. "It's like I'm 3D. I'm so getting TRON vibes."

"Well, at least I'm back in familiar territory." Red said rather pleased. "Don't worry. Just stick with me, guys. We'll get through this. All we do is-"

"Wait! Where's Brit?!" Jack looked around. She was nowhere to be found.

"She's not here." Jerry said looking around.

"Yo, I thought she was with us?" Roger asked also looking around the strange area.

"Brit?!" Jack yelled at the top of his lungs. "Brit, are you here? Where are you?!"

"Guys! Hello! I'm right here!" Brit shouted to them. But they remained oblivious to her and continued to talk amongst themselves. Brit grew from annoyed to worried. To downright terrified.

"I'm standing right beside you! Hello?! Jack!" Her hand tried to touch Jack's shoulder but it went right through him. She kept on doing it but her hand continued to phase through his body.

"Wait…" she focused her vision. The boys were still there. She then snapped back to her own reality.

"Oh crap…" she said blinking rapidly.

They were gone.
