Whis began climbing the steps up to his lord's chambers. The winding steps stretched several hundred feet upwards. They were illuminated by light from small circular windows, and purple luminescent crystals. Each step Whis took echoed through the immense space. Several minutes of clacking from his pristine shoes went by. Finally, he reached the summit. Whis stepped up to and opened the great doors, which bore an eyeball-like symbol when shut. For a while longer, the clacking of his shoes echoed off of the walls. He halted just before his lord's floating bed, and gently began levitating towards his lord. It was time to change the sheets.

The sun rose on Planet Vegeta. Outside her home, Gine could hear the beginning of a saiyan morning; crowds of shop vendors and others out on errands, yelled and hollered. She awoke from the racket. Her hair was messier than usual, and her face drooped. Yawning, Gine scratched her back and rubbed her eyes. Every friggin' morning! Why can't these loud-mouths show some goddamn courtesy? This is worse than when I had Raditz!...

She looked over at her 'husband', who was snoring obscenely loud. I don't know how I got to where I can sleep through that... She shuddered. I remember our first night together. It was an... 'eventful' night at first, very pleasurable... until it wasn't.

Gine stared at him for a few moments, annoyed, before smiling sweetly and leaning over, kissing him on the neck. She got out of bed and put on her armor; she was only wearing her sleeveless jumpsuit before. A full day of cooking lay ahead of her, and she needed the distraction from her worries. Her two biggest ones being that of her son, Kakarot, and of her impending demise...

His lord slept on freshly changed sheets. Whis smiled down at him. The angel softly floated down to the floor. His feet gently touched the ground and he began walking away, and out of the chambers. After his minutes-long descent down the steps, he reached the bottom floor of the stairwell, which opened up into a grand hallway. The hallway was lit up by the same purple crystals as in the stairwell, and led to countless rooms extending down its entirety. Whis walked for several more minutes until reaching the end of the hallway and exiting his lord's estate. His feet treaded a pink, stone path, lined with blue grass and surrounded by purple trees. He continued on this path until happening upon a lake with twisted tree-stumps around it. The angel walked up to a stump and levitated to its top, where he sat down. Summoning his staff, he peers into the crystal ball at its head. Nothing interesting had happened for millenia, but it never hurt to check in on things. I tell my lord relentlessly that his sleeping habits are going to be his downfall, but I can't help but empathize with him, if even a little. It's so boring in my lord's realm that even I find it hard to stay motivated to action.

Whis scanned the cosmos galaxies at a time; nothing. He zoomed in on a red planet. In a swampy region, there was a giant alien frog with horns, battling an equally strange and huge snake. The snake wrapped itself around the frog and prepared to deliver a venomous bite, but not before the frog leaped high in the air, taking the snake with it. The pair crashed down with a giant splash that sent a tsunami through the swamp. The horns of the frog had impaled the snake's skin and the frog began whirring its head around, spinning the snake. I guess this is as good as the entertainment is going to get. If only I had some type of oil-roasted plant seed covered in animal byproduct.

Suddenly, Whis' staff alerted him to an event happening on the far end of the universe. He zoomed in on the source of the alert and cast his gaze on a large earth-like planet. Hmm. Where have I seen this world before?... Whis marveled at the view for a moment. He could see a large ship hovering high above the planet's atmosphere. Hey... I know this world. It's Planet Vegeta. If I'm not mistaken, my lord and I visited the king of this world. The king was arrogant and brutish, attracting the wrath of my lord. Freeza came seeking my lord's permission to destroy it, which he granted the tyrant. Freeza must be preparing to do the deed soon.

Whis looked up at his lord's home. The mysterious light above the world shined bright as ever onto the massive tree. He smiled an enigmatic smile and chuckled. Surely his lord would strangle him if he should wake up while the angel played hooky. But... front row seats to the biggest happening in decades was just too good an opportunity to pass up.

Bardock awoke to the smell of searing meat. He sat up and yawned. His hair never changed from its trademark, messy style. He wore his armor to bed, not that he was in any condition to take it off last night. Rubbing the back of his neck, he got out of bed and stretched. Bardock walked into the kitchen in the front of the house. Gine was chopping away at a giant leg of an alien beast. Several saiyan customers stood in front of the house, hollering at her to get a move on with their food. Bardock was about to tell them to fuck off before Gine took her knife and threw it ninja style at one of the customers, burying the blade into their table with a thud. "How about you get your lazy ass up and help me if you're so hungry?!"

The customer sipped his ale and looked away awkwardly. Everyone else piped down and murmured to themselves. Bardock, who had witnessed Gine's wrath before, began trying to sneak out and away. He almost made it around the corner before his tail was grabbed and he was yanked back into the house. "Oh no you don't!"

"But Gine!"

"But nothing! We're having a talk!"

Gine dragged Bardock by his tail into the back room, while the customers gave him a 'we feel for you man, good luck!' look. Once they were in the bedroom, Gine laid into him. "It's been a full month since we sent Kakarot away and Freeza hasn't destroyed us yet! All of the saiyans have been here for a week! He's had ample time to get rid of us!"

Bardock, rubbing his tail, gave her a somber look. "That's not true. The last saiyan squad arrived today and there's been no sign of my crew since they went dark. I know he's going to destroy us today."

Gine's voice became shaky. "And you were just gonna leave to face him without telling me?" Bardock didn't have an answer to that. Tears began flowing down her face. "You weren't even going to say goodbye… or tell me that you loved me one last time?" They stared at each other in silence for a while. Bardock's face was stone cold. Gine had begun to bawl, holding her face in her hands. She spoke through them. "I'm scared, Bardock."

Bardock pulled her in and embraced her. Gine cried into his armor. The truth was that he was scared too, more scared than he had ever been. He knew that it was hopeless. That he was going to lose his home, his sons… and with them, the love of his life. The suffering that Bardock went through in his final hour, should never happen to anyone. Now, rest his soul, he had to tell his 'wife' that everything would be ok, when he knew it wouldn't. "It's going to be ok. Our sons will live on."

Gine was crying so hard that she found it hard to speak. "What about us? I don't want to die…" Once more, Bardock didn't have an answer. Once more, they stood in silence. He opened and closed his mouth many times, trying to say something. Eventually, he did. "I love you Gine… I know I'm worthless and weak, and that I can't protect you… but I love you."

She looked up at him, still crying her eyes out. Upon looking into her watery eyes, Bardock found himself on the verge of tears. Slowly, their heads craned toward the other, until their lips met. It was the most passionate kiss of their years together, second only to their first. When their heads retracted, they stared into each other's eyes for a long while. Their moment was cut short when they heard Freeza soldiers shouting to one another that it was time to return to the ship. "It's now or never. I have to make a stand."

Bardock pulled away from Gine and started off towards the kitchen. She followed. When they came out, the saiyans waiting on their food began cursing at them. "Hey, where the fuck is my giant, horned, frog leg?!" "And where's my charred, monster, swamp snake!" Bardock's eye twitched and he flipped over all the tables but one, which he stood on. "Alright, pansy asses! I'm gonna go fight Freeza! If any of you limp-dicks (or ladies) have any balls, you'll join me before he blows us to kingdom come!"

Several saiyans began laughing their asses off at him, while a few others dropped their mugs and walked up to Bardock. "We're in. Lead the way Bardock!" Bardock smirked at the three ladies and one limp-dick that joined him and they flew off. Gine waved to Bardock and called out after him. "Give him a left and a right for me!" Bardock turned around mid flight and gave her a two finger salute.

"Uh, Gine? Your mate just flew off with three single females. Something tells me fighting Freeza isn't the plan." Gine turned to the gruff, old saiyan man that said that, and gave him a sweet, innocent smile… while holding a large cleaver behind her back.

After a long and protracted flight, Whis finally arrived at Planet Vegeta. Freeza's ship still hovered over the planet, and no destruction had taken place. He had made it in time. Freeza sure is taking his sweet time destroying the saiyans. I wonder if he's waiting for more to show up. That must be what it is.

A thin cloud of soldiers began to form around Freeza's vessel. Small ki blasts could be seen being shot around. Oh my. It would seem that a few saiyans have caught on to his plan. This could get ugly, for the saiyans of course. For me, this is only the best kind of entertainment! In fact, I'm going to come closer for a better view!

He placed himself behind Freeza and observed the battle. No one could detect him because of his god ki. Such a small group of saiyans, yet they're taking on an entire army whose members individually, have more power than them. Whis held his chin and marveled at the site.

Bardock pushed his way through dozens of soldiers to get to Freeza. He blasted some, while brutally beating and crushing the bodies of others. His saiyan comrades weren't as powerful and couldn't keep up with him. Soon he found himself at the tyrant's ship. Freeza stared at this little rebellion with a cool expression that gave away neither terror nor anger. Bardock shouted at Freeza like a madlad. "Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezaaaaaa! I won't let you dispose of us like common trash!"

Freeza, with the same nonchalant expression, fired a death beam through Bardock's chest. The impact knocked the wind from him, and he began falling back to Planet Vegeta. His comrades were disheartened by their leader's fall, and one by one, began to perish. The Freeza soldiers mercilessly piled on the saiyans, killing them with ki blasts and fists through the chest. Through cracked eyelids, Bardock witnessed his comrades be slaughtered.

Whis stood in the same place, unmoved by the tragic scene playing before him. Though he sighed. I suppose it was meant to be. I always root for the underdogs and just like most underdogs, they didn't come out on top. Unfortunate. As Freeza began charging the supernova that would inevitably destroy Planet Vegeta, Whis noticed something. Hmm. That saiyan that fell to Freeza's beam has a lot of untapped power. If I'm not mistaken, saiyans have the ability to transform into 'super saiyans'. If I were to… No no no. I can't interfere, it would break the law of the angels.

Bardock's body continued to fall. A small trail of fire followed him. Whis looked on. Unless… yes, that's it. It's for my lord; a new playmate. Freeza launched the supernova. When it hit the atmosphere, it caused a massive shockwave of fire to spread. Whis used his time-breaking speed and zipped down to Bardock. Bardock opened his eyes when he felt the hard crystal ball of Whis' staff touching his head. His eyes widened at the sight of the angel, who smiled at him.

Within seconds, Bardock could see his past. He could see his father and mother, his first mission, the first time he met Gine, the day they confessed their feelings, Raditz...Kakarot… A terrible feeling rose in his gut. Now he saw them all being erased by Freeza's supernova. When he opened his eyes, the angel was gone, and so was his weakness.

He jetted back up to the supernova, in a golden flash. Charging ki in both hands, he grabbed the supernova and began pushing it back into space. Freeza's expression became furious when he saw the ball of energy making its way back toward him. "How?! None of those monkeys should be able to do this!" Freeza held out his hands and used his ki to push on the ball.

Bardock struggled when Freeza did this, but slowly began to overpower the space emperor. His golden hair and teal green eyes made him look all too much like another warrior from the future. Finally, Bardock kicked the ball, sending it barreling towards Freeza's ship. Freeza looked on, terrified. Just when the ball seemed like it was going to hit, it was deflected back towards the planet. Freeza transformed into his final form. The tyrant stood there with one hand stretched out, pushing on the ball with invisible ki. He was taking no chances.

Bardock was overwhelmed. He knew Freeza was strong, but not this strong! He pushed with futility against the supernova, it only pushed him further back. Whis looked on with disappointment. After going through the trouble of bending the angel rules to give Bardock a boost, it still wasn't enough to make a difference. Oh well. It was probably for the best. My lord would likely have erased the saiyan on the spot once he got too mouthy. On the other hand, I suppose I'll take a quick tour of the planet before it explodes and I never get another chance.

As Whis flew down to the surface, Bardock, in slow motion, was incinerated by the supernova along with his hopes and dreams.
