Chapter 15

"NOOOO!" Kylo shouts out in horror as the woman he loves stands before him, his lightsaber stabbed straight through her stomach and out the other side. Han was only a couple of steps behind her, having been pushed back away from the weapon as Elsi landed between them.

Realising what he had done, Kylo immediately un-ignites his weapon and it drops to the floor as his hands become numb. The sound of the metal hitting the bridge echoes throughout the entire room.

Everyone is silent as they all stare in horror at Elsi and what had just happened to her.

Elsi's gaze meets Kylo's as her hands shakingly hover over her stomach and her body crumbles to the ground. Kylo hastily reaches out to catch her. He slowly lowers her to the floor just as he had done not so long ago. He holds her in his arms as he kneels down with her on the bridge, her lying across his lap.

"No, no, no." He repeatedly mumbles, pressing his face into her hair, his hand stroking her cheek as she stares back at him gasping for breath.

One of her hands, that was pressed against her wound reach up to his face, but it almost drops as she is too weak to hold her hand up any longer.

Ignoring the blood on her hands he catches hers in his own and presses it against his cheek, bringing the palm to his lips to press a soft kiss to it.

"I am so sorry." Ben admits.

She seems to nod her head. Though in a daze all she wants to do is tell him that it's okay, that he can let go of his pain and choose the light, but she can't get the words out, only blood starts to fill her mouth stopping her from speaking.

He slowly lowers her hand back down to her body and presses his hand against her wound. Elsi presses her hand over his, shaking her head.

Its ok she wanted to tell him.

He seemed to understand her, perhaps through the force.

I love you.

I love you too.

He pressed his forehead to hers.

At this point they had both completely ignored the fact that stormtroopers had entered the room and were firing their blasters at Finn, Rey and Chewie. They were all shocked at what Ben had done. Han had tears in his eyes as he blasted back at the troopers who were luckily not firing back at him as he was too close to Kylo; who they would not dare blast by mistake.

Han looked at his son, and the girl he thought of as a daughter, lying in his son's arms.

He needed to leave. He knew that the base was about to get blown up by the resistance.

Elsi was dying. His son had killed her, and he knew there was no coming back from this. He could not bring his son home now. Kylo had tried to kill him and had ended up killing the woman Ben loved.

Han would struggle going back to Leia. How could he face her? He failed to bring back their son and lost their almost adopted daughter in the process. He had never felt so devastated in his life. He had lost everything. It made him realise how good a life he had when he was with Leia. He just hoped that he lived through this enough to apologise to Leia so that they could work through this together.

Meanwhile across the galaxy both Skywalker siblings gasped in surprise as they felt the life slowly leaving Elsi, a member of their family.

Leia drops down instantly into her seat. Pain fills her heart as she feels Elsi's pain as though it was her own.

She had lost a son, now it felt like she would lose her daughter as well.

The resistance workers surrounding her look over and see her reaction. They know that something is wrong, but no one says anything but instead focuses on monitoring their troops attacking Starkiller base.

All they knew was that something bad had happened and it had affected their leader greatly.

To Elsi there was nothing but pain. She could see blurs of light flashing around her but apart from that the burn in her body engulfed her. She knew Ben's arms were around her, though she could not feel them.

Ben could feel her pain as though it was his own. Their connection to the force and to each other allowing him the peace to know that she did not blame him. He was surprised and relieved to find out that she knew that Snoke was the one who had tricked him again and had forced his hand.

He could see clearly that the darkside was not the answer. It had taken everything from him. But he refused to go down without a fight. Steadily he rested his hand over her wound. He would not let the darkside take anything else from him; especially not Elsi.

This was Snoke's vision. He had seen Elsi's death. This was her death, but it was death by his hands. But there was one thing that Snoke was wrong about. A Sith could not save people from death.

But maybe a jedi could.

"Snoke was right Elsi." He whispered. "Kylo was not strong enough to save you."

Ignoring the blasts and shouts around him Ben pulled from his connection with Elsi and used it to push his own life force into hers. It hurt like mad, but Ben continued to heal her, determined that he would not lose her even if he lost himself.

"But maybe Ben is." He whispered, his voice strained as he used every ounce of his jedi powers to save the woman he loved and never wanted to leave ever again.

At that moment Ben truly accepted the fact that he was no longer being controlled by the darkside. From now on he would be Ben again and he would protect what he loved.

Light began to glow from Ben's hand and encircle the wound.

After a few moments Ben could feel Elsi's heartbeat flutter rapidly as it began to increase in strength. He gasps out in happiness but looks down at her only to see that her wound was partially healed but not fully closed. She was still unconscious and had lost a lot of blood. He knew that he could not heal her using the force any more as exhaustion engulfed him and his energy refused to push forth any more power.

He may have saved her life using the force, but she was still in critical condition and needed medical attention immediately.

A sudden shout from Han causes Ben to look up. Han had made his way back across to the other side of the bridge by now, clearly to gain more cover against the stormtroopers.

Finn, Rey, Chewie and Han were all firing at the troopers, desperately trying to escape.

Looking down at the unconscious woman in front of him, Ben knew what he had to do.

He had to get Elsi away and quick.

Ben rushes to his feet, lifts Elsi into his arms but staggers for a moment at the loss of energy that he had transferred to Elsi.

Turning from the bridge he hastily walks away, knowingly leaving his red lightsaber directly in the centre of the bridge. He walks away from the darkside for good.

"BEN!" Han calls from in front of a corridor he and Chewie had made it safely to.

Ben stops for a second, turns to face his father but quickly turns away as he sees the betrayal in that man's eyes from trying to kill him.

He hurries off, headed in the direction of the ship hanger, ignoring the explosives that are set off behind him as a distraction so that his father could escape.

Ben rushes to the first ship he sees, runs up the open ramp and heads into the ships main room. Luckily the ship was fairly big, so it had multiple rooms.

Carefully he lays Elsi on one of the beds and ensures that she is safely strapped in so that she would not fall once the ship took off.

Gently he kisses her on her forehead then rushes to the cockpit to start the engines.

The engines do not take long to fire up. The ship was mainly built for transport, not really for battle. He only hoped that the other ships battle outside would be enough to distract the rebellion ships from attacking them.

As soon as the ship exited the base and appeared in the open, a rebel ships' blast ricochets nearby and the ship shakes and gets knocked to the side.

Ben gasps and clutches his stomach in pain, realising that when he had transferred some of his energy to Elsi, he had in turn taken some of her wound on him.

It appeared that they both needed to have medical attention. But where would they go? Snoke knew that Ben had betrayed him. He had turned from the darkside and Snoke would never get him back. Ben would be hunted down and killed alongside Elsi.

All he knew was that they needed to get far away from Starkiller base. He could figure out the where later.

An X-wing pilot suddenly appears behind him, chasing him along the mountainside. But Ben is one of the best pilots in the galaxy. Following in his father and grandfathers' footsteps. With a few manoeuvres he quickly loses the ship behind him and races his ship straight up towards the planet's outer atmosphere.

Ben readies the ship to enter a hyperjump. The coordinates are set, and Ben is ready for the jump. As he presses the button as a laser beam shoots out from behind them and directly hits the ship sending it through the hyperjump but off course.

Alarms blare as Ben frantically attempts to steady the ship and send it back on course.

The ship eventually exits hyper speed, engines failing and the ship rapidly falling down to an unknown planet. Sweat covers Ben's brow as he reaches towards the controls, attempting to prevent the ship from crash landing.

The ship begins to burn as it enters the atmosphere below. The green blurs that pass by as the ship crashes, show that the planet is entirely covered by woodland. A beautiful planet that he would admire if not for the fact that he was currently trying to prevent him and Elsi dying in the crash landing.

The ship rocks and spins as it crashes through the densely forest covered planet, whacking apart the beautiful environment as Ben performs the emergency landing. Ben is jolted back and forth as the ship crashes into the grassy terrain and eventually slows to a stop. Ben looks up but feels dizzy. Whether from the crash landing or from Elsi's wound, or maybe a combination of both.

He tries standing but he immediately falls back into his seat as his vision blurs and black spots appear in front of him. The dizziness brings Ben to his knees as he attempts to leave the room and head towards where he left Elsi, hoping that she was ok.

Ben grabs onto the side panel and drags himself into the room where Elsi still lay. She still appeared to be exactly as he had left her. Though her breathing still seemed ragged. At least she was still breathing. It was lucky that he had the time and forethought to strap her down, otherwise it was likely that she would not have survived the crash.

Black spots clouded more of his vision as he realised that he was about to black out.

"Elsi?" Ben whispers as he reaches his hand out to her arm; him now kneeling at her bedside.

He strokes his fingers softly against her arm as he leans over her in relief that despite her body being freezing cold, she was alive, and they had escaped.

"I'm- going to- to keep you safe El-Elsi." Ben managed to rasp out as he fought to stay awake.

A loud bang sounds down by the ramp of the ship.

Ben turns his head sharply to the rooms entrance but quickly regrets it as a sharp pain hits is neck and head from turning so quickly. He automatically reaches for his lightsaber only to remember that he had left it behind at the base.

Instead he reaches for Elsi's lightsaber that was still holstered by her side. Carefully releasing it from its clasp he moves it in front of him and ignites the blade.

It sounded like someone was breaking into the ship.

Ben's concentration began to waver as he is unable to hold the weapon up in front of him. He quickly un-ignites the weapon so as to avoid hurting himself from dropping it in his exhausted state.

He lowers to weapon to rest on his knee as he faces the door, ready to fight back with the force or use the weapon to defend both of them if he could pluck up the energy to do so.

Within a couple of minutes several shadowed figures enter the room one by one.

Ben fights his unconsciousness as he places his body directly in front of Elsi as though to protect them both in their fragile states.

He could not tell who the shadows were nor what species they were. To him they were just black blobs that he could not focus on. He couldn't even tell how many there were. Whether there was one and his dizzy mind was showing him more, or if there were many and they were truly surrounded.

Was it Snoke's men? Had they already found them? Did they shoot the laser at the ship back near Starkiller base and then track them all the way here?

Ben tries to speak, to warn them not to come any closer, but his energy had left him. The power that he had transferred into Elsi in order to keep her alive was in need of being rejuvenated in his own body. He needed rest and no matter how hard he fought against his own mind to attack the shadows, he would not be able defend himself and Elsi.

The shadows step towards him but Ben could no longer stay awake. His head falls back to rest on the bed beside Elsi as the shadows move closer and Ben collapses alongside his unconscious love.
