Summary: The world is a little backwards when it comes to soulmates. You usually find out who your soulmate is on the youngest sixteenth birthday, the way is different for everyone. There is a downside to having a soulmate though. If your mate dies, you die, and there is no stopping it. As soon as their heart stops and they take their last breath, you do to.

This is an unasked-for sequel to 'Who Ever Said That Soulmates Means Happiness.' This idea has been on my mind for a few months now.

Pairings: Petunia X Vernon Dursley

A.N.: This is a dialogue-less one-shot.

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, or any properties related to it, they all belong to JK Rowling.

After Lily Potter died and left her only child in the world an orphan, he was sent to live with his only living resident, Petunia Dursley. Petunia had always been resentful of her sister for having magic and going to a world that she could not follow her to. However, she still loved her sister, even in her grief and anger towards Lily, she loved her. But the more her nephew grew and developed the resentment towards him grew. She blamed him for her little sister's death, she blamed his father, and deep down she blamed herself for not trying sooner.

As the month of June came to a close, she was counting down the days until her nuisance of a nephew would return from school and she would be forced to look at the constant reminder for two months. Her and her husband had come to an agreement many years ago that the Potter boy would do all the housework after a certain age. They both saw it as retribution for what he had caused by being born. So, it was a great surprise when a barn owl came swooping in threw the open greenhouse door holding an envelope. It landed on the table in front of her and held its leg out for her to take the letter. On the front it was addressed to the Dursley family and held the wax seal of Hogwarts. Dread filled her as she took the letter, and the owl flew off. She tore the seal gently and pulled the parchment from the envelope.

Dear Dursley Family,

To whom it may concern. We deeply regret to inform you that on the evening of 18 June 1996, your nephew, one Harry Potter, met his end during a battle against the Dark Lord, Lord Voldemort. There was a battle in our Ministry of Magic between the Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters. The casualties included his godfather, Sirius Black, and his soulmate, Remus Lupin, Bellatrix Lestrange, Lord Voldemort, Harry Potter, Mr. Potter's soulmate, and many more. On behalf of the family, we have chosen not to disclose the identity of you nephew's soulmate.

Per request of his parents and godparents, Mr. Harry Potter was laid to rest next to his parents in Godric's Hollow. Per his own will and request, any personal belongings have been given to their chosen owners. Any family inheritance has been redirected to the next member in his family line, meaning his soulmates family.

So, on behalf of the entire Wizarding World, we are sorry for your lost.

Sincerely,

Headmaster Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore

Tears of anger and frustration welled up in Petunia's eyes. She clenched the letter in her fist in frustration, anger, and pain, as muffled sobs wrenched their way out of her chest. Tears spilled out as the sobs of sorrow became too much to keep in anymore. She felt so many emotions at once that she didn't know how to hold them in. For she now knew she would no longer be able to seek retribution from Harry. She would never be able to apologize or finally tell him stories about her sister.

Her own son had just arrived home to find his mother in the midst of her grief. His blue eyes surveyed her gentle and slowly approached her. He laid his hand on her shaking shoulder in question. She never muttered a word and just handed him the letter. He eyes widened in shock as his eyes flew across the parchment, absorbing the horrible news. His own eyes welled up with tears. Memories of his cousin saving his life the previous summer came to mind, after he had left for school, Dudley had done some deep thinking and realized that he had been horrible to Harry his entire life. He had wanted to apologize to the Potter as well and now he never could.

His eyes darted to his mother in question. She was aggressively wiping her tears away and had gotten up. Her tense form looked at the clock and began working on dinner. His father would be home within the hour. So, he just sat and watched his mom work. Every now and then her shoulders would shake, and a sniffle could be heard. She set the table and walked to the washroom to wash her face and fix her makeup. Vernon could be heard pulling up to the house and getting out of the car. She greeted her husband with no problem.

Dinner was a slightly tense event, Dudley ate in silence, Vernon spoke about work, and Petunia just listened with red eyes. After dessert and tea Petunia finally handed the letter from Dumbledore to her husband. His eyes darted across the page as he read it. He grunted in recognition and crumbled the paper up in his fist. At some point that evening the paper ended up in garbage and it was silently agreed that they wouldn't discuss it or the boy.

They moved on like nothing ever happened, because Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.

THE END
