Many of the Straw Hats and the Nine Scabbards were seriously or moderately injured. Nami and Usopp suffered cracks in the skull, Usopp of course also broke his nose again, Robin had wounds on her hands and legs, Sanji and Zoro suffered from fractures all over their bodies, and Luffy was full of bruises and sure enough, ate during his sleep.
The Scabbards too suffered serious injuries, most notably Kiku's loss of hand. It was in fact like one big field hospital, full of samurai as well as former Beast Pirates, most of whom had crossed to the other side during the battle. Many of them also suffered burns due to all the fires that broke out around Onigashima.
Anyone who could help the doctors, walked among the wounded and helped. The moans of pain were heard everywhere. Particularly chilling were those of Zoro, who had a double injury, both from the battle against Kaido and against King, and was now forced to bear the consequences.
Robin looked at the groaning Zoro. He was given a lot of painkillers, and still suffered badly. She sighed and walked away. All day long she moved from patient to patient, treated and helped.
There was only one more patient left to check before she too succumbed to fatigue and went to try to fall asleep.
Throughout the day, the town's people arranged sheds and tents from cloths or partitions of houses, to protect the sick from the weather. Robin pulled out one large piece of cloth and improvised a tent for King, above the crater in which he lay, the one created by his fall.
Now she walked over to him. She should probably change his bandages, apply more of the ointment that Chopper gave her, and check the condition of his wing.
She entered the tent. It was dark and low, King would not even be able to rise to a sitting position in it, but in the tallest central section, Robin could stand upright.
A candle was burning at the far end of the tent, near King's head. No, not a candle. It was the flame on the back of his neck. So small?
Robin walked over to the injured wing. King breathed heavily and began to mumble.
"What?" Robin asked him, but King kept mumbling, shaking his head from side to side without being aware of her presence.
Robin touched the wing. He's feverish!
Robin changed bandages quickly but gently, and approached his head with a bowl of water and a damp cloth.
"I'm going to take my coat back." She said to the feverish King, "Don't worry, it's dark in here, I will not see a thing. But I must get your fever down."
She pulled the coat from King's face and put it on. Despite the darkness, she managed to discern the silhouettes of King's facial features in the light of his faint flame.
Robin gasped in surprise! She did not imagine he was such a handsome man! Chiseled nose, full, sensual lips, elongated eyes, though almost completely closed, and straight eyebrows canted upwards to the outside of each eye. His left eye and eyebrow were surrounded by a tattoo. The right side of his face was surrounded by lush white hair with a beautiful side braid, while around his left ear there was no hair growing at all. Traditional Lunarian hair and tattoo like she had seen in an illustration in a book she had read back in Ohara when she was a child.
He's as beautiful as an angel, she thought to herself.
Beads of sweat sprang up on his forehead, and Robin came around and began wiping them and damping his forehead with the cold cloth.
After a few minutes, the fever started to go down a bit and King's breathing became more regular.
Robin yawned. I'm so tired, she thought to herself. And I still had not arranged a place for myself to sleep... She tried to get up and go out, but after two steps she felt dizzy and sat down next to King's healthy wing.
Maybe I'll just put my head down here for a bit, before I go out. She thought.
She lay on her side in a fetal position and fell asleep immediately. A soft, black wing covered her gently like a blanket, and Robin sank into a very deep sleep.
