Now let's begin.

The skies above London were as clear as could be without a single cloud. The rays of the sun fell down onto the pedestrians below and warmed them while a calm cool breeze prevented them from getting too hot. It was almost as if the land of Britain itself had deemed such a pleasant day, or possibly even the lord himself as life, food, song, and joy filled the streets connecting everyone.

In other words, the complete opposite of what Lord El-Melloi II was feeling as he walked down an alley in London with darkened black shadowy eyes. Cigarette between his ever-tightening lips looking as if it would be broken in two at any moment if it wasn't for the merciful relief it was given by his briefly parted mumbling lips.

"Honestly, who does she think she is…" he rubbed his forehead with the palm of his hand, "all those stupid faces…" footsteps getting even louder as the heels of his shoes hit the ground at an ever more aggressive angle. There sound so sharp that it felt like it could cut air itself in two, "I swear she's even worse than Flat."

If one were to hear El-Melloi II at that very moment the first question they would inevitably ask the lord and beloved Clock Tower professor would not be what had happened to bother him, or who had done something to disturb him. No rather than the traditional what or more famous whodunit a regular at the Clock tower would ask whydunit? For much like there were a countless number of ways a problem in magecraft could come about so too did the students of the Modern Magecraft Theory department create countless periodic ways of tormenting him.

From sweetly pink gem eyed girls with crushes, to sadistic adopted sisters, and prodigies lacking common sense. On this day or to be more specific hour, if the class he just taught was any indication, it was the sister which was blame.

Honestly, why did they come to him with all their problems, shouldn't they be looking to someone above a fourth-tier mage to get what they need, why was he the one connecting all of them?

The pounding headache in his head had prevented the lord from using what little allocated time he had to advance his own meagre magecraft let alone deal with the other issues of being a Clock tower professor. As such he decided to leave the building and head to his favourite café for the second time in the same day in hopes of it helping to once more facilitate his focus.

"With my inability to reign in those students I wonder if sometimes I'm my worst enemy." He mumbled while standing mere footsteps away from the café entrance with slumped shoulders. Their slant combined with the weight of the computer and papers in his bag causing his silky black coat which lay above his white undershirt and below his red scarf to drag down in a way which had it get caught in and snap a few strands of his long hair.

A rather undignified "ugh" escaped his lips at feeling the hair follicles break, causing him to bite down on his already weakened mystic code which resulted in SNAP!

As the cigar broke in two and fell to the ground it released the life energy rich ash within. The seeds of the soil which birthed the plant which made up the cigar were carried by the wind of the alley to the place they were to return to, and along the way slammed right into the young lord's face, hair, and eyes.

"This just isn't my day." Defeatedly once more lord El-Melloi II rubbed his eyes with one hand to get the ash out while the other got to untangling his hair and coat. The ash infused hairs which had been snaped earlier took off into the air carried by the wind to a red door besides the café entrance.

The Fes gave up with his situation at this point and just wanting to sit down began walking to the café entrance. But as a result of still rubbing his eyes didn't see where he was going. With his bag hanging heavy along his shoulder, he unknowingly reached for the red door instead and with a huff pulled it wide open.

His eyes shot open in an instant. His body immediately frozen in wonderous shock as it basked in the pleasant breeze which came rushing through and surrounding him creating an almost euphoric sensation.

He was still aware of his surroundings if not even more so now that the grumblings and frustrations which had plagued him were completely pushed to the back of his head in an instant. But he couldn't deny that despite the light refreshing breezy energy which now engulfed his entire being a part of him was also somewhat unable to see ahead in some unknown way.

It was because the energy which flowed through.

Magical energy.

The energy which came about through the processing of life energy, mana and od, except now it surrounded him, his measly magic circuits still as inactive as they could be.

Breath in.

Breath out.

The simple act sent him to the past where a student years ago without thinking took a step to achieve a dream and did something more foolish and reckless than anything his students could currently attempt.

Once more in that place from long ago in his mind he takes a step through the rusted red stone door without thinking.

And discovered that…

"It's…an alley" Another alley from the one he was just in.

The floor beneath his feet was made out of stone which slanted in a downwards angle to the centre of a path. The precision and its mirroring on the other half of the floor indicated intentionality in the design.

The buildings on either side of the narrow path were three to four stories tall and comprised of various colours. Green, yellow, white, orange, and of course red created a cozy safe feeling which was perfectly enhanced by the rays of the sun shining down. Only blocked partially by small repeating arches up above interconnecting the buildings on either side and in the process created equally pleasant areas of shade.

There were lampposts on the sides hanging on building walls.

Wires moving horizontally along the sides of the building.

A pipe went up one of them.

It was so very normal.

So pleasantly normal in visual appearance.

The student went away as the lord re-awakened. He looked around, confusion on his face at the normalcy of his surroundings, the free abundant magical energy in the air still as mysterious as ever and the only thing standing out.

His mind and body got to work. He could feel no life energy at all within his surroundings, not a fraction of a single unit. Although it was hard to tell he admitted. The magical energy surrounding him while empowering him also made it hard to pinpoint specifics. Like trying to find a seed caried by the breeze in a garden.

But he was certain about his deduction, mana was the life force of the world, without it the environment be it one of mystery or logic could not be sustained otherwise.

Lord El-Melloi II's heart beats just a little bit faster for a moment in panic as he put his hand up to his chest, his Od was there, normal as if nothing had changed. The same with the rest of his body, perfectly functional as should be.

"Where am I?" Looking up to the sky there were no landmarks to see, the crooked buildings around him blocking most sight. But in the background cars could be heard ever so faintly. El-Melloi II turned around to the door he had walked through, the alley he usually went down to the café still there beyond it like normal. He perked up his ears, the sound was from this alley not the regular one.

"Well, that's a start at least." Wherever he was technologically speaking it was similar enough to London, not to mention the lamps were clearly European in design origin. Not that it helped much in narrowing down location. Architecture and technology rarely did in the ever-increasing interconnected world of the modern age, a few iconic structures being the rare exceptions.

He also doubted that the magical alley was created by a mage. In addition to the fact that there wasn't any room to do so in this part of London, this new alley could not physically exist in terms of space. The preparations required to create this much magical energy would have undoubtedly drawn the Clocktowers gaze given that it was literally right beside them.

All these thoughts of course still failed to answer the slight detail of apparently the entirety of magecrafts laws being violated so casually!

Even Riders reality marble didn't feel so pure and rich in magical energy.

Breath in.

Breath Out

Looked like he'd need assistance to figure out what was going on here. The why of this mystery would have to wait for once till later given the sheer ludicrous nature of the situation and the so far apparent lack of any clues.

The lord rummaged through his bag hand slipping between papers and the laptop in search of his cell phone but to no avail and eventually slapping his head, "I must have left it in the office in my rush to get out." Truly he was his own worst enemy sometimes.

He'd have to walk back to the Clocktower but that of course left the apparent magical doorway wide open for anyone to come through, he'd have to put a bounded field up.

Automatically he prepared himself to cast the network of magical energy as per-usual before stopping himself. "Could I cast a bounder field here?"

He was sure it was possible to cast the bounded field for just as the magical energy flowed through to the café side so to was he now beginning to feel mana flowing down into the mystery alley he still stood in. Not to mention using his own od if need be.

Tap, tap, tap.

No, the issue at hand was what would happen once the casting was complete or even just commenced, with all the magical energy around would the field just dissolve into the wind or would he set of a magical explosion like a match to gas

Tap, tap, tap.

Even if he did it on the café side with the quantities of magical energy flowing through it would still pose quite a risk and that was when he first opened the red door let alone factoring in how much had already spread.

Tap, tap, tap.

He'd have to hurry back and cast a rather large bounded field encompassing most of the Café alley if need be and hypnotise the people to get them out.

Tap, tap, tap.

Lord El-Melloi's mind turned to the café alley once more as his ears this time picked up the sounds of a couple people approaching, He reached for and closed the worn red door almost completely leaving just enough open for him to look through.

Tap, tap, tap.

The people slowly came into view and strode by calmly looking perfectly fine and chatting away. Nothing noticeable changing in their actions as they eventually left past his field of view. Well, that was good news, the fact that they weren't falling down in pain or worse exploding from exposure let the lord to release a thankful sigh.

Tap, tap, tap.

While certainly not guaranteeing that non magical people (or himself) were unaffected by the magical energy it at least gave him some time to execute his plan and get to the Clocktower for help. There was no time to waste anymore in wonder, intrigue, and confusion he had to calm his heart and stop tapping the floor with his sho- tap, tap, tap.

Wait his shoes weren't tapping away worryingly! No, the tapping was calm and repeated, the first two taps indicating the existence of footsteps while the third was lighter like a walking stick. It was coming from the alley behind him. Right behind him!

Lord El-Melloi II turned around in an instant.

Black collided with black.

The rather tall lord looked directly Infront of himself, a rough black robe was on either side of his vision with a white undershirt located in the middle underneath.

Lord El-Melloi II moved his head up.

In the process a red vail was scrunched up and lifted before eventually falling down draping the entirety of his head.

Meeting the lords gaze was an elongated pure white skull whose teeth smoothly flowed into its structure as one piece. As his eyes trailed to the top of the skulls his eyes eventually came to meet the owners own. Beady red dots with no other details to speak of as they were sunken into pure black voids lacking and detail whatsoever.

Whelp here's the first chapter. I hope you guys like it.

To answer any questions on worldbuilding in regard to the basic premise the Ancient Magus bride world and Fate world are not parallel or adjacent timelines. Ancient Magus Bride's world is its own thing without even a connection to the Root in any way. The idea being that we get to see how these two worlds meet and interact with their similarities and differences both in terms of characters and magic systems.

I've entered the circle of hell which is Nasuvere world building I'm already regretting it. Here's hoping I didn't fuck anything up in the first chapter!

Feedback and comments of any form are welcome.

Till next time.
