A couple of days later, both the Professor and Clara were walking down Main Street after the two had formed a couple. They headed down to Granny's Diner from the pawnshop when they stopped suddenly. Hearing something ahead, the Professor pulled Clara to the library wall. "What's wrong?" she asked.
"Look," he said, pointing ahead of them. They saw Greg and Tamara with someone whose head was under a sack up in front of them. Someone who looked like Regina. And a third person. Hook.
"Something's wrong. Why are they taking Regina away?" the Professor asked.
"She is the Evil Queen, isn't she? I mean, she must have enemies around here."
"But, outsiders?" he asked. "And what's Hook doing back here? I thought we left him back in New York." He took out his phone with the intent of ringing UNIT. "Come. Lunch can wait. We need to see my father."
After being on the phone with UNIT, the Professor began to understand. Hook was in the broom closet when they left New York. But, when UNIT arrived, he was gone. Someone had gotten to him first. And seeing him helping Greg and Tamara kidnap Regina, he knew who it had been.
He poofed himself and Clara to the TARDIS where the Doctor was. "Dad. We've got problems."
The Doctor turned to face them. "What sort of problems?" He asked.
"Well, we saw Greg and Tamara abducting Regina. Like they were taking her somewhere."
"And Hook," Clara added. "Hook was with them."
"Oh, I knew there was something rotten about him," the Doctor said, turning back to the console and beginning to type something into the system. "He had such a big ego about his ship, I'll tell you that much." He typed something else into the TARDIS console and then looked at the screen. "I've been researching our friend, Greg Mendell, too. Records only go back a few years, and then they stop. Like he didn't exist. And at the same time, there's this other person who went missing. An Owen Flynn. It looks like they could be the same person."
"Wait, … Owen?" the Professor asked. "You know him?" Clara asked.
"Kinda. When Regina cast the curse, she was drawn to a young boy camping with his father in the area. I don't know what happened, other than he left without his father." He took a deep breath. "We need to warn the others."
Mr Gold was surprised to see the TARDIS in his shop (in the back room) and the Doctor, the Professor and Clara standing outside it. He tilted his head. "Waiting for me, are we?" he asked.
"Oh, yeah," the Professor said. "We have some news."
"About what?" Mr Gold asked.
"Storybrooke," the Doctor said. "We believe that it is in great danger."
"And what is it in danger of?"
"Not what. But whom," the Professor said. "Greg, Tamara and Hook. They're all working together. They have kidnapped Regina."
"Why on earth would they kidnap Regina?'
"We were hoping you would tell us," Mary Margaret said as she and David entered the back room. "We need your help to find Regina."
Mr Gold went over to one of the cupboards behind him. "I'm sure I can whip up something to find Regina," Mr Gold said and opened the brown, wooden cabinet. "But tell me, why do the Charmings want to help the Evil Queen?"
"Because I owe her," Mary Margaret said. "After what I did to Cora."
Mr Gold exhaled as he brought over a box from the cupboard. "Never underestimate the power of a guilty conscience." He opened the box and took out a small vial with liquid.
"What is that?"
Mr Gold held it up for everyone to see. "This is one of Regina's tears."
"Why do you have one of Regina's tears?"
Mr Gold opened the vial and went over to Mary Margaret. "Because I do. This spell, however, requires two tears."
"You want one from me?"
"Well, think of a dark moment, dearie. Something bleak and hopeless. I know you have a few." He brought the vial to Mary Margaret's eye, where he caught the tear, which glowed once it contacted the other liquid – Regina's tears – in the vial. "Perfect..." Mr Gold whispered. "Now, when you drop this into your eye, you will be connected with Regina, wherever she is. Whatever she sees, you'll see. Whatever she feels, you'll feel."
How long does the spell last?" David asked.
"Long enough to lead you to her," Mr Gold said, handing David the vial. "And with that, I wish you luck. Goodbye."
"Always a pleasure," David said as he and Mary Margaret left the shop.
