Mew giggled to themself as they flew through the air, enjoying another beautiful day in Kanto. Today, they wanted to do something exciting and so they searched for the perfect opportunity. It didn't take long, however, as they spotted a pack of Growlithe lazing around a meadow. They looked to be very young, their parents must be getting food for the young pups.
Mew hummed to themself as they gleefully descended towards the fire-types. Young Pokemon are the best at learning Mew's secrets and it has been a while since the legendary Pokemon taught someone something.
As Mew flew closer to the ground, they spotted a human not too far from the pack. The human looked to be a young boy, probably a toddler. The human slowly walked in the direction of the Growlithes and Mew had a better idea. They flew towards the human, stopping in front of him as they waved at him.
"Hiya!" Mew greeted, making the toddler giggle. "I'm Mew, what's your name?" The toddler just giggled in response. Mew floated upside down, holding a hand to their chin as they stared at the toddler in thought.
"You don't know how to speak yet, do you?" The psychic-type asked as they twirled around the human. "That's okay! Lemme fix that for ya!" Mew let out a giggle as they touched the human's nose, a pink light flashing brightly. The human squealed at the pretty light, stepping back quickly and falling backward.
"Again! Again!" Despite not speaking, Mew was able to understand the human. The toddler giggled and clapped their hands together in delight.
"You had a psychic affinity so I simply unlocked it," Mew explained. "You can understand Pokemon and communicate with them now! Isn't that awesome?"
"Funny," the human thought as he poked Mew's nose. The psychic-type giggled again in response, flipping upside-down as they faced the human.
"Your name is Darrin, I can see that by reading your mind," Mew said before they twirled around, spinning a few times before facing the other direction. A pink light enveloped the human named Darrin, lifting him into the air. "C'mon! There's some Growlithe nearby! I wanna show you something!"
Darrin screeched out in joy as he flew through the air. After a few moments, Darrin saw a pack of young Growlithe napping together. Mew descended towards them, bringing the young human along.
"Hello!" Mew exclaimed as they reached the pack, startling the young Pokemon awake. "You guys wanna learn something cool?"
"I-Is that a Mew?" One of the Growlithes asked as the small group got to their feet. "Mama said that Mew are very rare but are good!"
"Your Mama sounds like a smart lady," Mew replied as they poked the Growlithe's snout. "Now, who here wants to learn a water-type move?"
"We can't learn water-type moves!" Another Growlithe exclaimed as a few others barked in agreement. "We're fire-type Pokemon!"
"Is that so?" Mew asked with a smirk. "Let's play a game then!"
As Mew started to demonstrate Scald to the pack of Growlithe, Darrin watched with wide eyes. After a few hours, Mew had taught the young Pokemon a unique set of moves. Darrin watched as two of the Growlithe battled each other, one using Thunderbolt while the other used Dazzling Gleam.
"See what you can do, Darrin?" Mew asked as they floated next to the boy. "Nothing is ever impossible. People and Pokemon can do anything they put their mind to. And that goes for you as well! Don't ever stop chasing after your dreams and don't let anyone stop you. I should bring you back home, your parents might be looking for you."
"Ma… Ma… M-Mew," Darrin stuttered out as he reached toward the Legendary Pokemon.
"It was nice playing with you, Darrin!" Mew exclaimed as the pink light surrounded the human again. "We'll see each other again someday, I bet! And we'll play again! More importantly, don't ever forget what you learned here!"
Suddenly, with a flash of light, Darrin found himself back in the spot where he first found Mew. With a giggle and a wave, he turned back around and slowly walked back to where his parents were.
-Seventeen Years Later-
Professor Juniper let out a sigh as she quickly walked through the halls of the now-empty university. It had only been a few days since the last final but a lot of the teachers were busy grading tests and papers. However, that's not the reason why she was here that day. She burst through a set of doors, quickly taking a seat in the almost full room.
"Professor," a man greeted, sitting at the head of the table.
"Sorry I'm late, Chairman," Juniper told him as she got herself situated. "Your call came while I was out in the field but I came as quickly as I could."
"It's a pleasure to have you here either way," the Chairman replied. "We are here to discuss one of our students. Mr. Florence, want to take it away?"
"Yes sir," the man known as Mr. Florence said as he stood up. "We've had a student here for the past few years who's named Darrin. He's an exceptional student, scoring some of the highest scores this university has ever seen. However, there is a slight problem. While he seems to understand everything he learns, he may be dangerous to any possible Pokemon he'll work within the future."
"What do you mean?" Juniper asked as she looked at Darrin's profile. "I doubt you would have a meeting this large for a student who abuses Pokemon."
"You would be correct, Professor," the Chairman said as Mr. Florence sat back down. "Darrin is not an abusive student, on the contrary, he understands Pokemon better than most other students. However, when presented with simple battle simulations, he tries to make Pokemon use moves that they do not know, cannot learn, and can even harm themselves with."
"And yet he's one of your best students?" Juniper asked as she placed down the papers she was holding. "That doesn't make much sense. Surely students should know the basics before even attempting university applications. Did he say what his career plans are?"
"He wishes to become a Pokemon researcher," the Chairman answered. "Which is even more concerning. We face a difficult decision of dismissing one of our best students or keeping him at the university and possibly harming several Pokemon."
"Is that really the only two options?" Juniper asked with a sigh, holding a hand to her forehead. "Has this student even done anything wrong?"
"Well, no," came the response. "But there's clearly a problem here."
"The only problem here is the one you're creating," Juniper stated as she stood up from the table. "I have a better idea."
"What do you propose?" The Chairman asked, a little miffed now.
"He wants to become a researcher so he'll carry out his final year under my supervision," Juniper replied as she collected the papers on Darrin. "I have a few gifted individuals that start their Pokemon journey soon. I'll have Darrin join one of them and have him take on the Unova Gym Challenge. We'll be able to monitor Darrin's progress, prove that he's not a problem like you claim, and even give him experience working out in the field."
"But that means giving him a Pokemon-"
"As the head Pokemon Professor of the Unova region, I have the right to choose who to give a starter Pokemon to," Juniper cut off the Chairman. "And I can also have a student from any university do a type of internship or fieldwork that will count towards their graduation. You have no power over this." With that, Juniper turned on her heels and left the room, closing the door before the Chairman could protest.
"Now, Darrin… You have caught my interest," Juniper said to herself as she looked over Darrin's papers again. "I have a good feeling about you."

Welcome to the prologue of a story that I do not have a proper name yet. It's gonna be a story focused around the events in the games and stuff, starting with Black and White since Black and White 2 happens years later. Better to come back to the region for those events.
Anyways, this is planned to be a not so serious fic with some serious moments, particularly with characters and stuff. Things will get silly, things will probably not make sense and that is okay! We're here to have fun!
