As soon as the rabbits saw Artham's wings everything fell into chaos. Everyone started yelling and drawing weapons. All of the rabbits charged, except Smalden, who quickly drew a bow and nocked an arrow. Artham dispatched all the rabbits quickly, but it was a little too late. As Smalden loosed the arrow Janner felt as if time stopped. A hundred thoughts raced through his head, but the one that was the clearest was that Artham was going to die if Janner didn't do something. Janner leapt as hard as he could into the air in front of Artham.

Sara's POV

I saw Smalden shoot the arrow. Then Janner leapt in front of it. I closed my eyes. I didn't want to see Janner die. He had already done it once, and I was so broken down. Then I heard the dreaded thud of Janner's body on the ground. I decided I would probably be more helpful with my eyes open so I uncovered them to see what I knew was there. Janner's body lay on the ground, the arrow embedded in his shoulder. The wound was bleeding and looked awful. Luckily the rabbits were quite shocked when they saw Artham alive and Janner on the ground bleeding. This gave Artham the time to quickly grab me and Janner and jump back into the portal.

Third person POV

Back on the other end of the portal, a giant dragon was poised to slap a rock down onto the leak of first well water. Another dragon was hovering just above the water with Picket and Jo on its back. Then Artham came out of the portal with a panicked expression on his face. Hulwen quickly took him to the surface. A moment later a flood of rabbits came out of the portal, kicking and splashing. The dragon holding Picket and Jo dove down and shoved all the rabbits back through the portal. At the same time the other dragon placed the rock over the leak. The portal weakened, then disappeared.

Back on the surface, Artham looked at Janner. Why did you have to do that? he thought, wishing that he would of died instead. He put his head against Janner's chest and listened. "Is he still alive?" Sara asked, tears in her eyes. "Yes, but not by much," replied Artham. Hulwen quickly swam to shore where Leeli and Nia were waiting. As soon as they saw Artham's grave face, they knew something was wrong. Then their eyes shifted to Janner and they understood. Artham quickly scooped him up and flew to the castle. As soon as he got there he carried him the the nurse's chamber. He laid him on a bed and quickly but carefully drew the arrow out of his shoulder. He then wrapped it in bandages and waited for Nia and Sara. When they came Sara started crying and Nia asked Artham what happened. Artham told the story and then, Nia too , also started to cry softly. As Sara looked at Janner one last time before retiring to bed early. Somehow, she just knew that Janner would survive. She had hope.

The first thing Janner heard was crying. Then he was aware of a terrible throbbing in his shoulder, and realized his eyes were closed. His eyes fluttered open. The first thing he saw was the dim outline of a bedroom. He was laying on the bed, with a nightstand and a chair right next to him, on which someone was sitting. "Sara?" Janner asked. She looked up, shocked, and then burst into another flood of tears, hugging him. "Ouch!" Janner exclaimed as a fiery pain erupted in his shoulder. Sara quickly let go of him and asked,"Are you alright? I'm so sorry." "Yeah, I'm fine." Janner replied,"Could you please tell me what happened?" Sara quickly relayed the story. Janner nodded. He DID remember jumping in front of the arrow, but didn't know if he had saved Artham or not. "So... he's alive?" Janner asked hopefully. "Yes." Sara said with tears in her eyes. She hesitated then leaned over and kissed Janner on the lips, whispering,"I'm so proud of you." Janner was shocked, then said,"Do you know where I ever imagined this?" "Where?" Sara asked.

"My wildest dreams."
