CW AT THE END
Curled up in a futile attempt to preserve heat, Harry blinks, but only sees complete darkness. Of course, it has been that way since almost a year ago, when he was whipped across the face tortured by the muggles for weeks and weeks and weeks. He could make our light changes, thanks to 'Mione's efforts, but nothing more.
Across from him, he hears a faint groan, and his head perks up. In this cold, acierciel (Sky steel—the French had found it's anti-magic properties and it had become standard in cells since) cell, he hadn't expected to find anyone else. Slowly crawling against the freezing steel-stone mixture, he arrives at the source of the groans, and feels chilled skin after questing around for a few moments.
Acierciel manacles and collar were wrapped around the other prisoner, just as they were to Harry. He began to rub his hands over the exposed flesh, trying futilely to warm it up under the thin rags that they had been given. He felt blood coming from a multitude of smaller wounds, and many scars.
Feeling up to the collar, he began to run his fingers over the name engraved in it, but was unable to read it. He could make out a few letters—an 'E,' 'P,' 'T,' '3,' '7,'—but nothing else. He concluded that the E, P, and T made up the word EXPERIMENT (he had seen it before many times, as he rescued mages from the laboratories and camps) and the numbers were a part of the identifying number. But why would they give up one of their precious experiments? They never let them go, until death or escape.
And then the skin grew colder. And he felt (because Harry was a lucky bastard) the soul wisp out of the body, and curl around and around, before shooting out of the cell. The cellmate was dead. And in 10 hours, Harry would be too.
He hoped it would be quick.
(It was. A shotgun to the back of his head. He came back and killed them all.)
(After all, didn't dementors need souls?)

Hey! Because the second chapter is taking longer than anticipated to finish up, I'm figured that I'd give y'all a small glimpse into Harry's past.
The first chapter should be out in a week or so, if you can wait that long. Apologies for the long wait, but I want to make it memorable.
