Here's the second chapter of the Pirate Islands story, where Mars comes to Kate's world for a day and meets with her father who learns about the adventure that took his children into the world of his game. Disclaimer; I don't own Pirate Islands and its characters.
I just wrote it in tribute to a fantastic Australian TV Series that was long forgotten, but I give most of the credit to Jonathan M Shiff of the Jonathan M Shiff Productions and the Australian studios that made this series come true.
So I hope that this will be known to all other people who love Pirates and ships, adventures across the sea and more.
Chapter Two.
A week later in the neighbourhood outside the city of Sydney, Australia.
After that night when they returned to the real world, the following weeks went on as normal for Kate and her siblings. Even though their dad wasn't too mad about Kate, Nicholas and Sarah losing his scanner and the control, he knew that he had to reprimand them for playing with them in the first place.
They each endured their week of being grounded with limited access to video games or electronics but Kate didn't feel all too bad about it and neither did Nicholas or Sarah as they were glad to be home and not stuck in the computer game for months.
Sarah spent most of her time in her room with the talking plant bell, writing up a book about Bell's responses as a hobby whilst Nicholas and Kate were mostly doing housework as part of their dad's punishment.
But after a few days of hard work, Mr Redding decided to let them off on their punishment under probation. Once their punishment was lifted Sarah got to call her friends to find out how they had been, they caught up on some things they did the other night.
But Sarah created a fabricated story of her night with her siblings to hide the fact that she was sucked into a computer game. It felt nice for her to reconnect with some of her friends in the city where they hung out at the arcade which was ideal because there were no scanners to zap her into any games.
Nicholas Redding got to take up training in Judo Martial arts since he planned on taking up class sessions if he got out of the game. He started with the basics of Judo on his first day which became very easy as his instructor noticed his skills, so he took him under his wing.
A week later after his second week in Judo class which was about anticipating kicks and strikes, he went out to see his group of friends in town; some of them invited him to the football field to play a few ball games before they went to the cinemas to see an old movie showing on the latest screen.
It was said that an old movie called The Goonies was showing at the cinemas.
At first, Nicholas wasn't fond of seeing an old 80s film involving pirates and a pirate ship, but when he heard that a girl in his school that he had a crush on was going to see the movie as well, Nicholas decided to make an exception and see what it is all about.
Kate Redding spent some time with her friends after her last day of being grounded, she went shopping for some new clothes and hung out at the mall. Most of her friends happily shared their stories of what they did and where they went on their summer vacation.
Unfortunately, some things almost started to return to normal.
When Kate's dad got home from his workplace after two days of working in the office during the second week, he got around to working on his computer game design Pirate Islands. Sitting in his chair in front of his computer, he was looking into the files in the Pirate Islands game when he logged into one computer game file that Nicholas had saved in the game marked Kate's game.
Seeing his daughter's name on the game file, Mr Redding became suspicious of it, so he opened the file. As soon as the game file opened up on his click with the mouse button, it started running the programme on his computer screen.
Mr Redding sat up and ran a diagnostic check on the computer file's mainframe to see if his daughter got up a few levels or so. But as he was halfway through his inspection of the game's interior structure and its data, Mr Redding started to notice a few changes to the game.
The first thing he found was that the Village on the castaway island was deserted.
On the Ocean, the pirate ship was gone from any part of the sea around the islands, as if the pirates had won the game and taken the gold.
During his further inspection of the game levels, Mr Redding found out that the Secret Island was destroyed.
According to the file's data information, the programme stated that his villain character the fierce Pirates Captain Blackheart was nowhere in sight.
The date on the game, in fact, stated that he was turned into a golden statue by the golden idol on the secret island. So realising that his kids had lied to him about messing with his work, Mr Redding rebooted the whole computer game.
He waited for an hour before he restarted and did another test run to make sure it was running properly.
Once the rebooting process was done, Mr Redding went back to working on the new levels including the doorway to the white room.
He spent a couple of hours of the days at the computer, adding codes and designs to place within the white room, reinstalling the wheel inside the white room before he finished it and worked on the next levels. During his research into the game, Mr Redding found out that his hero character Mars was residing inside the Tree House that he created.
When he did an inside scan of the whole treehouse, the scan results were complete.
What brought his attention again was that he found what looked to be a scanner and game control set sitting in the secret compartment inside the game. He found it to be pretty odd at first, the scanner and game control don't exist in the 18th century.
But when he thought about it further on, Mr Redding became convinced that his children have been playing the game whilst he was gone. So after coming to a resolution, he decided to investigate.
Shutting down the computer, he went out of the workroom.
Mr Redding went upstairs to the first floor so he can check out his son's room.
He was passing his daughter Sarah's room when he heard a sound coming from inside; listening to the sound he turned his head to the door. Mr Redding opened it up before he stepped in to find that the sound was coming from a plant in a pot sitting at the window of Sarah's room.
On seeing Sarah's dad coming into the room, the talking Plant Bell made the same sound that it had made when there was danger in the game world. The sight of the talking plant was a surprise to Mr Redding as it was here in Sarah's room and not inside the game; he crossed the floor of Sarah's room to the window, approaching Bell the talking plant before he spoke.
"Hey, it's okay. My name is Brandon Redding, I'm Sarah's father. Where did you come from?"
The talking plant didn't say much except make its ringing sounds.
"What?" Brandon Redding said, puzzled by the flower's ringing.
When he heard the front door open up, Brandon Redding turned his head to the door before he turned back to the window ledge.
He picked up the pot plant intending to hide it in his office so it won't be seen.
"Come along, I'm taking you to my workroom and I'm going to see who it is." said Mr Redding.
"Dad? It's me, Sarah." said the voice which Brandon recognised as Sarah's voice, she must have come home from the city after hanging out with her friends. Holding the pot plant in his hands, he walked out of the room and closed the door.
"I'm upstairs Sarah. Listen dear can you go and wait in my workroom? I need to talk to you about something. I'll be down in a minute okay." He said as he approached the stairway with the talking plant Bell in his hands. As he went down the stairs to the bottom, Sarah appeared at the bannister. She was wearing her jacket and holding a plastic bottle of juice in her hands when she came to the stairway to speak to her dad.
"Dad, what is it that…" Sarah began to speak but she stopped when she found her talking plant in her father's hands.
Realising that she might be in trouble, Sarah looked up at her dad whilst the talking plant spoke its ringing sounds. "I think an explanation is long overdue Sarah, don't you think?" asked her dad. Sarah became guilty as she looked at her father and nodded.
"I'm sorry dad, I really am but I couldn't tell you because I was afraid that you wouldn't believe me."
"Believe you, this singing plant in my hands says otherwise because it is the same flower I created in the Pirate islands Game. It's supposed to be inside the computer game and not in your room young lady. So would you tell me about this singing plant." said Mr Redding.
"That singing plant has a name and it talks through its bell-ringing songs; I called her Bell isn't that right Bell?" Sarah replied, the talking plant sang three bell sounds saying yes, which shocked him.
"She says Yes," said Sarah
"Wait, you can talk to this plant?" he asked. Bell made a low ring saying no. "Not really, but she can understand me as I can understand what Bell is saying. " Sarah answered, agreeing with the talking plant.
Breathing a sigh, Brandon Redding decided to settle the matter with his daughter.
Before her dad could say anything, Sarah spoke first. "Dad, can I at least put my jacket in my room first before we can talk? I've had a long day and I promise you I can explain everything." asked Sarah.
"Okay Sarah, drop your jacket in your room and then you come back downstairs to my workroom. I want to discuss what happened with you and this game whilst I was away." Mr Redding said, resolving to hear Sarah's side of the story in his workroom.
Sarah nodded to her before she went past her dad, looking at Bell with a sad look before she went upstairs to her room.
As soon as she walked into her room, Sarah took out her phone and placed it on the table.
With her hands now free, she then took off her jacket.
Sarah hung it up on the hanger behind her door.
Breathing a sigh to brace herself for facing dad like she was facing the judge and jury in one of those court tv shows on television, she went out the doorway of her room to head for the stairs.
From there she went over to the workroom where her dad and Bell the talking plant were waiting for her.
Brandon sat in his chair with the talking plant sitting on his desk when Sarah came into the room and closed the door.
Once Sarah and her dad were sitting down in her dad's workroom, Sarah took the time to recount the adventures in the Pirate Islands computer Game when a freak accident happened involving the Scanner that zapped them into the computer game.
In the city of Sydney.
Whilst Sarah was reciting her tale to her father, Kate had just finished her time at Junior High school. So having left the school at the end of the day, she spent a long hour in town for the afternoon before she would go back to her house.
Sitting at the table outside the local Café with a couple of her friends from school, Kate and her teenage friends were talking about how they each spent their time during the weekends.
But she chose not to mention her adventures inside the Pirate islands video Game.
Keeping the story of her adventures to herself, she instead told them about the hours of bonding with her siblings at home during the last long weekend.
The two friends found the story to be dull but at least they paid some attention to the subject.
So Kate shared a lot of laughs with her friends like she hadn't seen them in a long time and talked about this guy that she met online.
She told them that his name was Mars, saying that the boy Mars was about twenty years old but she didn't tell them much about where the guy lived.
The two girls became so intrigued by this mysterious boy Mars that they were about to ask her for some new details. As Kate was about to speak, she started to think about going back to the Pirate islands when she heard her phone ring.
She thanked her lucky stars as the phone saved her friends from asking for any more details.
Picking up the phone, she pressed the answer button and raised the phone to her ear. "Hello Dad?" she said.
"Kate, I think you and I will need to have a talk about what happened to you in Pirate Islands when you get home." her dad replied on the other line.
"What? Dad, What are you talking about?" she asked.
"I'm talking about the wild tale that your sister Sarah is telling me." Her dad replied.
"Uh, what wild tale is that?" asked Kate.
"The one about how you and Sarah got zapped into my computer game whilst I was gone." Her dad explained.
At first, Kate wasn't sure but then it suddenly hit her instantly.
Realising that her dad just found out about the game file that she set up so that she can save Mars and come back to Pirate Islands game at some point, Kate grew afraid so she spoke. "Um, okay Dad it is true. But can we talk about it when we get back home?"
"Alright Kate, but I want the full truth about what really happened with my game. Understand?" Her dad said.
"Yes, dad." Kate replied before she hung up, reeling over the fact that her little sister Sarah had just snitched on her literally.
She was thinking about skewing her for sure as she breathed a sigh and dialled her number on her phone.
Moving the phone to her ear, she waited for her sister to answer.
When the phone was answered, Kate spoke aloud. "You told our dad Sarah?" Kate was about to speak further when the sound of someone she didn't expect answered on the other side. "Kate, it's Mars. Not Sarah, Is this how you talk into this phone machine?" The boy on the phone replied.
Hearing his voice again, Kate became shocked, she stood up from her seat.
Her friends saw her stand up from her chair, even seeing the look on her face as if she had heard something bad happen. "Mars, is that you?" Kate asked speaking into her phone, which surprised her friends who realised that she was speaking to her mystery man.
"Yeah, it is Mars, nice to hear you again Kate." Mars answered.
Shaking off her shock, Kate spoke again. "Look, Mars, tell me where are you? I mean, how did you get here?" asked Kate.
"I'm hiding in your sister's room Kate; I used the scanner and the controls in Pirate islands to go into your world. I brought the scanner and the controls here with me but I heard your sister's phone ring so I went into her room and answered it." Mars replied. Realising that Mars was hiding in her house, Kate knew that she was in trouble with her dad for sure.
So she had to resolve the issue at hand. "Listen, Mars, just stay where you are. I'm coming back home right away to see you okay?" Kate said. Before he could answer her, Kate hung up the phone.
She placed the phone back into the pocket of her jacket, looking up at her friends.
"Guys I'm sorry but I have to go now. My Dad needs me home to babysit my brother and sister." She said to her friends before she got her stuff together.
"So I'll see you guys later?" she said further. "Sure thing, and tell us about that cute mystery man you're seeing another time." said one of the girls.
Once she said goodbye to her friends, Kate went off to the streets to catch a taxi back home.
Back in the house, forty minutes earlier.
Sitting on separate seats inside the workroom of the house, Sarah recounted the story of what happened to her, Kate and Nicholas. She told them everything that happened that night before he came home.
The Scanner that scanned Kate's hat. Sarah spoke about the storm that caused a freak accident with the scanner which then teleported her, Kate and Nicholas from the room itself into the Pirate Islands computer game world where they met Mars and the castaways during the battle before they got surrounded by Blackheart and his group of pirates.
Mr Redding sat on his chair, listening to his daughter's story with an open mind.
As she told him about how time in the game was so different from the real world.
On hearing this story, her dad was at first sceptical but he became intrigued, because when he looked at Bell who spoke in bell sounds to him, convincing him to believe his young daughter. "Can you tell me more Sarah?" He asked, Sarah then further told him about the plant Island she went to, to escape the pirates.
Pointing out that it was where she met Bell the talking plant and brought her back to the treehouse.
It was a fanciful long story to her father Brandon Redding but he took it in well enough.
The next thing that happened after forty minutes of listening to Sarah's story about the adventure in the Pirate Islands, her dad made a phone call to Kate and asked for her side of the story. It was a short phone call before he hung up the phone.
Suddenly there was a flicker in the lights which Sarah noticed, but not her dad as he was looking at her again.
"Sarah, I'm starting to believe what you're saying to me." Her dad said with a small grin which brought some relief to Sarah but she was now afraid of what Kate would say to her for telling Dad about their Pirate Islands adventure. Mr Brandon moved his chair closer before he spoke.
"I have to admit, I first found it illogical to actually be in the game but it sounds like an idea for a virtual reality game." That remark made Sarah laugh before he began to explain to his daughter about the challenges he installed in the game to make it more exciting for different people who love a challenge in all forms.
Although she enjoyed the lectures, Sarah pointed out how Blackheart got his hands on the scanner almost destroying the game with them inside and how frightened she and Kate were whilst they were inside the computer game world.
Understanding their struggle to get back home her father stood up from his chair and walked up to her. He kneeled in front of her chair as he spoke assuring her that the adventure is over now.
Sarah nodded her head to him before her dad sat on his left knee and folded Sarah in his embrace.
Suddenly there was another flicker in the lights again, only this time her dad noticed it as well. It was like something has happened with the scanner again.
Sarah was about to share more of her story with her dad who was starting to believe her story when the two heard a phone ringing from outside the room and someone talking, Brandon stood up from the floor to head over to the doorway.
"Stay inside the workroom, Sarah." Brandon warned his daughter.
He walked through the doorway to head for the closet.
Opening the closet door, he looked down and picked up a tennis racket in the closet to use as a weapon and closed the door.
Looking upstairs he went up the steps halfway, but stopped and listened for anything. When he heard nothing for a minute, Mr Redding breathed a sigh of relief. Heading down the stairs he looked around the house to see if anyone was roaming elsewhere, he first check the halls and went to the kitchen but found nothing.
Sarah was standing in the doorway watching her dad walk about the hall, Mr Redding was about to go back into the workroom when he heard footsteps of someone walking about.
The next thing he heard was the voice of his computer character Mars upstairs speaking from where he stood downstairs. Finding it a little hard to believe that his computer game was on upstairs in one of the rooms, Mr Redding went to the stairway to head up and investigate the source of the noise.
He slowly climbed up the stairs to the top floor, holding the tennis racket close to himself whilst Sarah stepped out of the room watching her father ascend to the first floor. But when she heard Mars' voice call out to Nicholas, Sarah couldn't believe her ears as she thought the hero of the game was still residing on the island.
"Mars?" she whispered as she looked up the stairs before she rushed up.
Mr Redding followed the sound to Nicholas' room as he raised his racket to strike; he opened the door to find a boy standing in the middle of his son's room holding a phone in his hand. The boy was wearing a shirt and waistcoat and a pair of raggedy trousers when he turned around to see Mr Redding standing outside Nicholas' doorway. He was shocked at the sight of his computer game character from Pirate islands in his house;
He stood speechless as Mars was when he saw the middle-aged man standing outside the doorway. "Who are you?" Mars spoke, frowning at Mr Redding.
"Well, I should be asking you the same question…" Mr Redding spouted out.
He was about to speak further but Sarah appeared from the side of the doorway. Having run up the stairs, she went to her father's side to see Mars standing in Nicholas' room. "Mars!" she said out his name surprised to see him. Mars looked at Sarah's face before he spoke her name. "Sarah."
Noticing her dad was standing outside the doorway, Sarah stepped in front of him.
"Sarah, how do you know him?" asked Mr Redding.
"It's okay Dad, Mars is your digital character. He saved us from the pirates after that scanner zapped me, Nicholas and Kate, into the Pirate islands game world. He helped us defeat Blackheart in the final level of the Pirate Islands game; Secret Island. Dad, it turned out that Pirate Islands was real." she said assuring her father.
"Oh." Mr Redding replied looking at his daughter he found himself shocked to really believe the story Sarah had told him.
Lowering the tennis racket to his side, Mr Redding looked up at the game character in Nicholas' room.
"So you're the hero who rescued my children, imagine that." was his response.
"My name is Mars; you must be Kate's father." Mars spoke looking at him.
"Yes, my name is Brandon Redding." Mr Redding replied offering his hand to Mars.
"It's an honour to meet you, Mr Redding. And I must say that device that you call, the scanner is special." Mars said raising his hand to shake his hand. Once they shook hands in greeting, Mr Redding stepped back to look at his computer game character, finally convinced of Sarah's story.
"Yes, the scanner was special and the honour is yours as well as mine." he said.
"Are you alright sir?" asked Mars. Mr Brandon chuckled nervously before he spoke.
"I'm just a little surprised, I never thought that I would meet with a character from another world like you. Especially one which I created myself on a computer."
"Well, you're different from how I had imagined you as Kate's father." Mars remarked to Mr Redding who was still getting over his shock at seeing his creation but he was appreciating the compliment. "Oh thank you and you're definitely how I had imagined you, Mars."
After a short talk together, the three went down the stairs to the dining room where they each spoke about their adventures in Pirate Islands.
Mars told Sarah about the time after she and Kate and Nicholas left the Pirate islands Game, Mars went to Haunted Island and paid a visit to Captain Quade, only to find out that his ghost was set free from the shipwreck after Blackheart's demise and the fall of the Secret Island.
It was a short while into the afternoon before Kate came back home.
"Dad? Sarah?" Kate said, entering the house through the front door, she was looking mad at Sarah for what she did. "We're in here Kate, and you have a visitor." Mr Redding replied from the dining room.
Confused with the word 'visitor' and that her dad sounded less angry, Kate closed the front door behind her. She went across to the dining room to find her dad and Sarah sitting at the table with the game character Mars.
He stood up when he saw Kate, who was shocked to see Mars in her house.
At first, Kate looked as if she was frozen in place when Mars went around the table to come toward her. Kate approached him; she raised her arms to touch the character boy she fell in love with. "Mars, you're here." she responded.
"Of course I'm here Kate. And I just want to say it is so good to see you, Kate." He said to her when he took hold of her in an embrace, wrapping his arms around her waist.
Kate had nothing to do except wrap her arms around his neck.
"It's good to see you too Mars." she said into his ear which brought a smile to his face. When she withdrew to look at his face, Kate spoke. "But I thought I told you that I'd come back to Pirate Islands to see you."
She said to Mars who then explained himself. "I couldn't wait any longer. Some days on Pirate islands got lonely and boring, so I used the scanner to go to your world. I even brought the scanner and controls back here so you can come back. Your father was kind enough to speak with me about his work on my world."
"Yes, and he was telling me some things about your adventures in the game." Mr Redding said as he stood up from his chair to walk up to Kate.
He walked past the boy Mars who then stepped back from Kate and her father Mr Brandon Redding.
Kate turned her head to look at Sarah, angry that she told their dad about Pirate Islands.
When her dad noticed her angry look, Mr Redding protested.
"Don't get angry at your sister Kate, she did nothing wrong."
Kate looked at her father. "Dad, how did you know that I was in Pirate islands if Sarah did nothing wrong?"
"I learned about your time in Pirate Islands when I first found Bell the talking plant ringing her bell sounds in Sarah's room, when your sister came back home I showed Bell to her and I asked her for an explanation. She gave me what she wanted to tell me." Mr Redding said, stepping up close to his daughter before turning around to look at Sarah who was holding Bell in her plant pot.
She was still sitting in her seat as she looked at her father and sister talking, Sarah then turned her head to look at Mars.
"Now I'm starting to understand why you wanted to create a new character for the game so that Mars won't be alone. Am I right dear?" He whispered to Kate's ear.
Drawing a crooked smile, she nodded to him in agreement.
"I'm really sorry dad, for putting Sarah and Nicholas in danger but the accident happened on its own."
"Look it's alright, you and your sister and brother are safe at home now. And I did ground the three of you earlier on." said Mr Redding.
"And we were really sorry for losing the Scanner and control," said Sarah, Bell rang her bells saying yes.
Mr Redding turned his head to look at her and her plant.
He nodded to them before he turned back to Kate. "At least it explains a lot about how you, Nicholas and Sarah acted like you were all gone for a long time two weeks ago. So that's the water under the bridge for now." Mr Redding stated to his daughter. Kate nodded in understanding her father's meaning.
After a few seconds of thinking, Mr Redding came to a decision on the subject.
"Alright, but you must know that Mars will have to return to Pirate islands."
"But why?" Kate asked in concern.
Mr Redding turned to look at Mars who stepped forward.
"Because someone has to be the guardian of the Islands and if I'm not there, your dad's computer game; my world would fall apart. Luckily your father has made a promise to me that another character that would look like you will be coming soon on a ship to live with me on Pirate Islands, he hopes that it would be a new level for the whole game or one that would lead to another game adventure for me. I hope that it would make you happy Kate, I really missed you." He explained.
Kate looked at her father, now figuring that he was going to create a character version of her once he returned to the Pirate islands so as to fulfil her promise to return to Pirate Islands. So she decided to play along with her father's idea.
Turning around to face Mars, Kate approached him.
Before she could speak to Mars Kate turned to her dad. "Dad can you give me a minute alone?"
"Yes, of course, come along Sarah and bring Bell with you to the kitchen." He responded before heading into the kitchen. Sarah picked up Bell from the table and walked halfway up to the doorway when she turned back and spoke. "It was good to see you again Mars."
"It was a pleasure to see you too Sarah." Mars replied.
With that, Sarah went off to the kitchen, leaving Mars and Kate to talk alone.
Once they were alone Kate took his hand in hers as she looked at him and smiled.
"I really missed you too, Mars. I am glad you came out here to see me. I would have come earlier."
"But you were being punished as your dad explained to me in the form of being "grounded." Is that a form of punishment?" Kate nodded. "It is a form of punishment which also involves hard labour." she added.
Mars gave a nod in understanding. "I explained to him that I brought his scanner and the game controls back, which he appreciated.
He gave me a picture of you in an even swap so that I can look at you from time to time. I wish I could have more time to stay in this world." Mars replied. Kate drew a grin at the thought of a computer game character staying but then she responded. "You never would have liked it here anyway."
"Why not?" asked Mars.
"It is a hard modern world for a real boy like you to live in, and you chose to remain on the islands after Carmen offered you a passage on the ship with her." Kate answered. Mars nodded as he remembered the last time he saw her when he remembered something else he needed to say.
"Kate, there's something else I wanted to tell you; It's about Quade's ghost. After you had left the pirate Islands, I paid a visit to Captain Quade's ship on Haunted Island." said Mars.
"You met with Captain Quade's ghost, how is he...as a ghost?" she asked.
"When the last I met him, he said that his soul is finally free from his ship. He told me to give you his thanks for defeating Blackheart before he ascended to heaven. Upon reuniting with his wife Annabelle, he wished me all is well as the Island's guardian." Mars explained.
"I guess with that now being said, the Islands of your world will need you to be the living guardian for many years to come, Mars Caspian." Kate answered Mars, who understood the meaning of her words.
"You're right Kate, and I will not leave my islands unprotected as well. I wanted to say thank you for the great adventures. I will miss you the most." said Mars, feeling sad that he would have to go back into the game tonight.
"I will miss you too, and I thank you for the lessons you taught me.
But if you keep a weather eye on the horizon, you might see that character version of me standing on a boat, she might be willing to stay with you. If it makes you happier." Kate said to Mars, who began to smile at her. Kate stepped back to turn away and head for the kitchen.
After a few seconds, she stopped for a short moment before she turned back to Mars. Walking up to him Kate reached out to his head and pulled him into her face.
They then shared a long soft kiss before they embraced.
"You'll always be a real person to me Mars." kate said.
"And you'll always be in my heart, Kate Redding." Mars replied just as someone came into the house.
It was Nicholas who came back home from Judo class training with his friends when he entered the dining room. Standing in the dining room, he saw Mars and Kate standing near the table.
After being surprised to see their favourite game hero again in his family home, Nicholas dropped his bag and went over to embrace Mars.
After the embrace, he stated that he was so surprised that Mars came here for a visit.
When they withdrew, Mars turned his head to look at Kate with a crooked grin on his face. Kate noticed the grin which left her puzzled so she asked. "What Mars?"
"I was thinking that since I am standing here in your real world, you still owe me a duel before I go back home." Mars said proposing to finish the duel that they started. "Well I do have two sticks in the house, so maybe we can finish the duel in the backyard," Kate said, thinking about it before she spoke again. "Challenge accepted Mars."
Hearing her answer, made Mars much more excited to play a duel game with his friend one last time.
Later that day after Kate and Mars had their romantic moment together;
the two went out back with two sticks to start their duel and they used wooden sticks that were in the house. They hosted the duel outside with Nicholas as the referee and Sarah and her father Brandon as an audience.
Once the duel started, Kate and Mars started the fight, exchanging sword strikes with sword blocks. Mars' skill was superb as he struck a blow on Kate twice gaining two points, but then she started blocking his strikes before she struck a blow on Mars and then struck another in the fourth round of the duel.
Pretty soon Kate was able to win the duel in the backyard.
It was soon followed by at least three more duels before Mars finally admitted defeat, leaving Kate Redding as the winner of the day. She received praises from her family and Mars who was a little less cocky than he was back in the game.
That evening after they declared Kate as the winner for the day:
Mr Redding and his kids shared a last meal with Mars.
During their meal, the siblings talked with their dad about the adventures of the Pirate Islands. The evening was an exciting hour for Kate and her family to share in this one last reunion with Mars who risked using the scanner to come into the real world.
And it seemed to Kate that her wish to see Mars again came true.
Although she wished that she could go back into the game with him or Mars could stay in the real world, she also knew as her dad did that Mars needed to go back into the computer game world to guard the islands which are part of his home. Most of all in her mind, she knew that she couldn't leave her friends and family behind no matter how much she loved Mars for being the hero who believed in her.
Mars saw it on her face and he understood. So she and Mars enjoyed the time he had with the Reddings family before Kate and her dad would send Mars back into the computer game using the old scanner and controls that Mars brought with him.
When it was time for Mars to go back home, he said his goodbyes to Nicholas and Sarah as well as her talking plant Bell who said goodbye to Mars with her ringing sound. Mars chuckled at the sound of Bell's rings.
"I'll miss you too Bell." he responded. Now standing inside the workroom with the picture of Kate along with some new toys and a chess set to play with, inside a sack that he held, Mars was ready to go back to his home. Once Kate and her dad activated the old scanner pointing at Mars and plugged into the game with the controls, the two who stood at the computer looked directly at Mars who waved goodbye to Kate and Mr Redding.
The father and daughter returned the wave before the Scanner shot its beam on Mars. Within a few seconds, the beam's power engulfed Mars, sending him along with the sack back into the digital game world in the flash of pixel light in the workroom.
