What's Up,
My Meta?
Disclaimer: I thought it'd be interesting and fun to explore Freeland's Meta-Community taking Major Williams' use of the term 'Meta' as an insult and making it more of a positive. Part of the 'Hijinks' verse and if this in some way offends people, I heavily apologize. Especially as I feel like I'm pulling a 'Clerks 2' with this.
Now one thing about having a Military presence in Freeland for awhile and it being close to an Occupation Zone without actually being one despite Agent Odell's attempts to the contrary, was that a lot of its Residents had heard the not so dearly lamented Major Carson Williams' use of the word 'Meta' in his interactions with people. Which was his attempt at mocking the Meta-Population and being a Racist asshole. Not to mention being an obvious individual of self-hate considering he himself was a Meta. And after the ASA was finally pushed out and the news came down that the not so good Major Williams was dead, one individual got the bright idea to start using the term 'Meta' in everyday conversation and in greetings. It had at first startled some and even caused a couple of fights to happen but after said individual explained what he was doing, it gradually caught on and swept through the Freeland Community. Granted, there was some who weren't too enthused about it like Jefferson Pierce but it had none the less become a thing. It'd even spread out towards Central and other places too, partially in thanks to Frost at one point having shown up in Freeland and having come to like the idea of the whole word usage thing where Meta was concerned.
Though those like Barry and even Joe had been understandably perplexed by the whole thing until she explained how it all started. But Joe would feel like it was a nice sense of karma/irony and figured Williams was rolling over in his grave over the whole thing. This term would help to influence the use of terms like 'Crash' and 'Schway' as well. Of course it helps that those in Central had heard XS and Impulse using those terms when they'd been around and therefore, inadvertently causing those terms to start being used a few years earlier than what they were meant to be. Thankfully, this wouldn't cause much in the way of issues for the Future considering it was a small change and nothing terribly troublesome. A negative had been turned into a positive in Meta-History and that was a damn good thing and Williams would definitely be turning over in his grave over it. Well, he would if he was able but he was certainly being tortured/mocked over it in Hell by not only the Demons there but any Metas who ended up there.
Author's Notes: Sorry, Carson, hate don't win today. I also finally realized there's no second 'd' in the word inadvertently. Shook, I am.
