Harry let out a sigh as he rolled up the tent Daryl and he shared. He swore when the group learned about magic that he would bust out the better tents; after all it was just a press of a rune to get them to roll up on their own. It would be faster the magical tents as well in case they needed to leave in a hurry. For now he would just have to deal with rolling them up by hand and hope he didn't accidentally tear the fabric of the tent with the ends of the rods.
His bag was already back and in the back of Daryls' truck with Regis and Daryls' own bag. Merle was still packing by the time Harry put the tent in the back and the others were getting the other vehicles ready to leave. He walked over to the RV when he heard a soft curse and saw Dale looking under the hood of the RV.
"What's wrong?" Harry asked as he stepped up next to Dale.
The old man sighed as he straightened out from when he had been bent over. "It's the damn radiator hose," Dale said as he reached up to scratch his head after taking his hat off, "it's got a large crack in it. We can't use the RV without it since the RV gets too hot to run without the hose."
Harry hummed softly as he looked down at the rather obviously broken hose. It was black, not that long, and flexible. It sort of reminded him of a hose he got a while back when he was still in Britain before his accidental apparition. "One second!" Harry said before jogging back over to the truck. The hose was in one of his trunks, but thankfully he could access the interiors of his trunks from inside of his bag. Thank you magic!
He quickly found the hose and closed his bag before walking back over to Dale. "Will this work?" Harry asked as he showed him the hose. The sight of the hose made Dale grin widely before the man took it and quickly replaced the broken hose with the new one.
"It's a perfect fit!" Dale exclaimed as he tightened one last bolt before putting the hood down. "Thank you!" the old man said with a wide smile on his face, "Where did you find one?"
Harry sent him a small smile before the lie spilled from his lips. "It was just something I picked up to experiment with for cooking. I thought it would help transfer some petrol from a car or something to a tank that we could use for cooking with a portable gas stove top if we can't have a large fire one night," he said as the guilt from lying settled low in his gut.
"Well either way. You had one and I'm glad you had it. I would have hated to abandon the RV someplace. The old girl really does help transporting everything we got," Dale said before telling Harry he needed to go over the RV again to make sure everything was ready for them to leave.
Harry nodded before setting out to distribute baggies of food, water, and emergency medical supplies to the different vehicles. The bags had the jerky he had made the day before as well as refillable bottles for everyone that Glenn managed to find in a store and thought it would be a great idea for everyone to have one. Besides the jerky Harry included half of chocolate bars, some pretzels, and pop tarts in the bags for the kids. The medical kits had small bottle of rubbing alcohol, band aids, gauze, medical tape, and butterfly stitches in the case for deeper wounds.
He had hoarded away the jerky before Shane or Lori could get their hands on them and when he was asked if he had anything to do with the disappearance of the jerky he lied and told them he didn't know anything about it. That lie didn't make him feel guilty at all. After all they were the ones giving away their supplies to another group for a fuck.
When he gave a bag to Carl he asked the almost teen to not tell Shane and Lori where he got it or let them take it since it was for him, but he could share it with his dad if he wanted. He had no qualms with Rick for now, but he was irritated that the man couldn't see what Shane and Lori were doing to the group.
The small teen sighed once more as he wiped away sweat from his forehead and grimaced at how much he wiped off. He had heard how bad the heat could get in the southern part of the USA, but he clearly underestimated it. It wasn't a normal sweat he had experienced. It was wet, sticky, and there was no stopping it. The mosquitoes didn't help at all since they seemed to be more attracted to the people who sweat more.
"I really can't wait to use the magical tents," Harry murmured to himself as he gave a heavily panting Regis an ear scratch.
"All right!"
Harry turned when he heard the loud voice of Shane. The man stood in the middle of the camp so everyone could see him, and the gut he had been developing. "Everything is packed. Let's get this show on the road. We'll be heading as far north as we can. If you start getting low of fuel honk once and pull over. From there we'll see who had gas to spare or if we're in the area we'll scavenge gas from abandoned cars," Shane said as he folded his arms over his chest, "We'll stop every few hours to stretch and use the bathroom."
Harry nodded as he saw a few others nod as well. All in all it seemed like a decent plan and there wasn't anything he could say about it that he didn't like. Harry closed the tailgate to Daryls' truck as the older man left his brothers' side to get in the truck. The teen hopped in after giving Regis another ear scratch and couldn't help but give Daryl a peck on his scruffy cheek before settling down.
"I'm ready to go!" Harry said as he buckled himself in, "Regis is good to go too." Daryl nodded and started his truck up just as the others started their vehicles. Lori, Shane, Rick and Carl were in a SUV at the front of the line as they guided everyone to the road out of the city. Behind them was the RV with Dale, Sophia, Carol, Ed, Jimmy, Jacqui, Amy, and Andrea then it was a SUV with T-Dog and Glenn. Harry and Daryl was behind them with Merle trailing behind them on his motorbike.
The procession was loud with all of the motors, but they were fast enough that any walkers forgot about them by the time they passed. They went on for hours, sometimes stopping to go to the bathroom or to go through a building for any supplies before getting back on the road. They had left early in the morning just as the sun rose up and by the time they stopped for the night the sun had set and the moon was making its appearance in the sky.
They managed to find a motel that was only inhabited by a few walkers they managed to put down and toss outside the rooms. Shane told them that they weren't making this a permanent residence. It was too open and out of the way from anything else. They would continue north in the morning after everyone had enough sleep to drive.
Harry just managed a few cleaning charms over the room Daryl had picked out for them after retrieving their go bags from the truck before Daryl opened the door to let Regis in. Once inside Regis flopped down onto the floor and immediately went to sleep just as Harry placed the bags onto the table the room had.
"He's so lazy," Harry said chuckling while he pulled his shoes off. He stretched out on the bed for a moment before he turned to watch Daryl take off his vest, shirt, and shoes. He knew his mate didn't like wearing shirts and if he could he would be walking around without one, but for sake of himself and his privacy he wore them. Harry didn't mind. The teen quite liked the way his mate looked.
Harry let his gaze travel down Daryls' toned chest and followed the hair that led into the low hanging pants. He licked his lips to get them wet from their previously dried state before he let his eyes travel back up to meet his mates' own blue eyes. "Hi," Harry said softly as Daryl moved to straddle his thighs.
"Hi," Daryl greeted back before he lent down and took the smaller males' lips with his own in a soft slow kiss. Harry let out a small hum as he let his eyes flutter close. His body heated up a little bit as he felt Daryl nip at his bottom lip, but not enter his mouth with his tongue causing him to whimper in want. He had to tilt his head a bit as a warm calloused hand cupped his neck and jaw and he couldn't help the little shiver his body produced as his mates' thumb ran over his cheek.
Harry had to take in a deep shuddering breath once Daryl pulled away as much as he didn't want his lover to move. He felt warm and safe underneath the larger body of his soulmate and his weight was comforting and soothing. The two stayed silent as they shifted on the bed to pull the covers over themselves. It didn't take long for the two to fall asleep to the sounds of Regis breathing and their own heartbeats beating as one.
Travel the next day was very much like the day before with them on the road for hours on end and only stopping to loot buildings and go to the bathroom, but this time instead of heading North they went West towards the coast when they found out the CDC they wanted to go to had blown up. Today though Merle and Regis joined them in the truck thanks to the sudden rain shower they encountered. Merle sat in the front with his brother while Harry sat in the back with his puppy simply because Regis and Merle would become too cramped in the back because the two were so large.
Harry didn't mind it at all since he took a few cat naps in Regis' warm fur as they went down the road. The ride was silent and long, but Harry did manage to find a portable electric stove top along with a solar charger for it so they could use it. It was even better than a gas one. He even managed to put them in his bag without the others noticing he ever had it.
He also found a few sweaters he liked and a collar that would fit Regis. The pup proudly wore the collar and showed it off whenever he could. His actions just made Harry chuckle and give the pup a piece of jerky.
Shane had stopped them from entering their vehicles on their third stop of the day to tell them that they didn't have much longer before they would be reaching their last destination. Apparently the man had decided on them to stop at an aquarium and to make it home until they had to be run off. Harry, not knowing much of the States, thought that the idea was okay. He just didn't know what the area around the aquarium held, but he hoped there was at least an area he could turn into a greenhouse to grow food for all of them.
The last leg of the journey was a short one, thank Merlin, and they managed to get to the aquarium in one piece. The windows had already been boarded, but the doors easily opened as Harry, Daryl, Merle, Rick, Shane, T-Dog, Glenn, and Morales went inside to make sure it was empty before letting the others inside. The indoors were open spaced unlike other aquariums Harry had seen before. Harry, along with Daryl and Merle went left from the entrance up the ramp to the higher levels while the others split with Rick and Shane going forward from the entrance and the other three heading to the right.
Subtly Harry cast a revealing spell in search for any other humans, or walkers, in the area and surprisingly, and gratefully, nothing popped up besides the eight of them. Nonetheless they searched the place and scoped out what would need to be fixed before any others could break in. The upstairs seemed well and good, but the downstairs needed some fixing with the rotting boards over the window and the wide open space towards the back of the building where they put on shows with the dolphins and sea lions.
For now they set up traps in the back to alert them of any trespassers before letting the others inside. Harry, having spotted a room for himself and Daryl up the ramp, left to claim it before the other could. It must have been an office at one point because there was a couch, a couple of office chairs, and an empty desk that Harry managed to push up against the wall to use as a table of sorts.
The teen transfigured the couch into a bed that took up most of the wall on one side to make it big and long enough for himself and his soulmate. Other than that he cast a deep cleaning spell, an air freshening spell, and transfigured a few napkins into curtains to cover the windows on the wall and the door so others couldn't just look in on them.
Stepping out of the now clean room Harry turned to the room beside it. To this room he transfigured the door into part of the wall to it was all one piece and instead created a doorway on the wall that connected to their room. He carved a rune into the door to cast an illusion for anyone else but himself and Daryl to see nothing but a wall there. Going back into the room Harry let out his trunks and began to organize and chart down what he had in a notebook he had snatched the day before from a store they had stopped at.
After that he carved another rune into each trunk and onto the inside cover of the notebook to create a master index. Whatever was taken or put in the trunks would appear in the notebook for him to see so he would know what he needed and what he didn't need. Best part was that he could take the notebook with him so he could look at his inventory as he gathered items from wherever he was.
With that all set and done Harry left the room and went down the ramp to the main room. Sophia and Carl were there with Amy, Andrea, and Dale who had told him that Carol and Eliza had found a kitchen area. He nodded and went in the direction Dale pointed out to find the two women laughing as they were putting the food items they had left away. "Hello," Harry greeted as he waved and began to help them put things away. The kitchen was large, which was understandable, and stocked with many utensils and such that they could use to cook with.
"Evening Harry," Carol greeted with a smile as Eliza gave him a nod. The Morales woman didn't speak much English even though she understood the language quiet well. Thankfully Harry knew a translation spell and could speak to her fluently thanks to it. "So the kitchen actually works," Carol said as she gestured to the oven and stove, "I'm guessing there's a generator here somewhere, but I don't know how long it will last."
"That'll be handy come the colder months if it lasts," Harry said as he placed a few canned vegetables in the cabinet, "We should find it and see if it needs gas or if it's solar powered."
Carol nodded to him as Eliza murmured something to her. Harry, feeling like he had just interrupted something, quickly finished the box he was emptying before bidding the two goodbye. From there he just wandered around the aquarium and greeted those he passed. He hadn't seen a hair or hide of Lori or Shane, which he was happy about, but he did stumble upon Rick and Carl, or rather he heard them before he had seen them.
"-worse dad," Harry heard Carl say with a small whine to his voice.
"I know," Rick said softly and Harry could hear a bit of a shuffle before the sounds of muffled sniffling.
"I'm so thirsty dad! I hate it!" Carl said through his sniffling, "The raw meat doesn't help anymore and I almost bit Sophia the other day!"
"Shhh," Rick shushed his son softly, "I know it's hard. We'll be okay Carl, I promise."
Harry charmed his feet to be silent before he turned and left the area before the two could see or hear him. This only confirmed what he and Carol had suspected, but if the situation was as bad as the two in there were making it out to be then they don't have long before they fall into bloodlust. With a sharp nod to himself Harry quickened his steps to the secret room he had made just a couple hours before. It was time to do some research.
