If you would have asked 14-year-old Raine Whispers if they believed in soulmates, they probably would have laughed. Soulmates? Who would want to be soulmates with a bard witch? Bard witches were one of the most looked over witches in all of the Boiling Isles.

'Impossible' They would have thought to themselves, determined to believe it. They were content to live their days alone with their viola and music.

Edalyn Clawthorne was an Enigma.

Raine was in awe of this fiery red headed witch. Their 3rd year at IFWOT and they have never been so entranced in watching someone utterly dismantle everything that they have believed in about being alone in the world. Introducing themselves to Eda was terrifying they admit. So many thoughts ran through their head first before they rounded the corner where Eda was sitting.

'What if they think I'm weird?'

'What if they don't want to talk or hang out with a bard student.'

'They're uniform is a Hexside uniform... St. Epiderm is like their hugest rival. They probably want nothing to do with me'

But after using some of their bard magic to change the disgusting juice Eda had that the convention offered and hearing the happiness in Eda's voice as she talked and they got to know each other, Raine believed that maybe the thought of soulmates wasn't such a terrible thing.

If that day proved anything, it was the fact that Raine was DETERMINED to keep this enigma close them no matter what.

A few months after their transfer to Hexside, Raine had come to the conclusion that there was no doubt at all that they were crushing HARD on Eda. Titan be damned if they tried to deny it. EVERYONE in Hexside knew how head over heels the bard was for the potions witch. It was blatantly obvious to everyone but the potion witch herself.

Some called it love. Raine liked to brush it off and called it a bad case of indigestion. They accepted the crush on their best friend, but love? Absolutely not! Titan forbid their heart to even go there.

Lilith was annoyed to say the least.

Watching the bard and her sister blush and stutter around their feelings for each other annoyed her to high heaven. She was so overwhelmed with studying for the Emperor's Coven tryouts and with her school work before she graduated, she didn't have time for the idiocies of the two lovebirds.

Raine could see it on Lilith's face. Something was bothering her and they wanted to ask, but both them and Eda were pushed away before the question could even come up. It was fine, they had time.

Turns out... they in fact...did not have time.

Eda had been cursed. It had come out once she had stood down to allow Lilith into the one spot of the Emperor's Coven that was left. Raine had watched from their crystal ball at home. Worry filled their green eyes as they watched their best friend... the witch that they (loved?) admired turn into some form of an Owl Beast in front of all the spectators.

'Who?' Was the only thing they could think about. Who in their right mind could curse a child with something like that. A child who had their whole life ahead of them. What in titan's name did Eda do to deserve any type of curse to be placed on her.

Raine decided at that moment, if they ever figured out who cursed Eda like that, they would have a whole array of problems that the bard would give them.

"Why do you even care!"

It wasn't till their first fight after the curse with Eda years later that Raine had come to the conclusion that they are in fact in love with her. It had hit them harder than a palisman staff right in the face. As Eda was walking away from them, counting this argument as completed in her mind. Everything in that moment made the bard scream the only sentence that they knew would hopefully make Eda turn around and possibly have them talk this entire argument out.

"Eda, I'm in love with you!"

They had closed their eyes as soon as they said it. Raine could hear their own heart pound in their ears, their hands sweaty and breathing getting shaky. This was it. Everything was out in the open now. It was probably for the best. Eda probably hated them for starting that argument. She probably now had her reason to leave the bard finally, no one actually stayed, maybe this was for the best-

"Do you...do you really mean that rainestorm?"

The nickname didn't fully register in the bard's ears until they felt a cold hand touch their burning cheek. They knew the curse messed with her circulation. Eda's hands were always cold compared to their warm ones. It was one of the reasons why Eda liked holding their hand. Although she would never admit it out loud.

Raine's green eyes shot open to meet Eda's golden ones dangerously close to their face. Their blush increased tenfold.

"Umm...I... uh...yeah... I do"

"Good... because I love you too"

Raine swore to the Titan that Eda's soft smile was the titan's gift to all the isles. They could never get tired of seeing it. They want to frame it and hang it up, scream it from the Knee that their calamity was the best thing the isles had to offer.

That was, until Eda had planted her soft lips on theirs and Raine swooned. They had decided that there was a whole new thing that they liked doing more than just holding hands.

Having kids was a thing that neither they or Eda were thinking about at the beginning of their relationship. They enjoyed having Eda to themselves to go on dates with and have movie nights alone in the comfort of their own home. However, It was a topic of conversation whenever Eda's mom Gwen came to pop her head into Eda's life.

Raine wanted kids... they could see a little witch with their complexion and Eda's eyes causing chaos in the walls of the owl house where they both lived together. Hooty chasing their little joy while Raine helped a pregnant Eda carrying their second bundle of joy off the couch to join them in the kitchen for dinner.

Eda however... did not see herself becoming a mother. She was open to the idea probably when she was younger, but with the curse getting worse and worse through the years, she came to the conclusion that maybe it was not bound to happen. She couldn't imagine passing on this curse to her child. It would haunt her for the rest of her life to have to watch her child go through the same painful suffering she did on a daily basis.

Not to say it couldn't happen though... Eda and Raine had figured out that Eda getting pregnant was absolutely something that could happen... because it happened already once.

Eda had collapsed into the nest in tears when she found out. Raine had a held her close as they cried, whispering sweet soothing endearments to their partner. Making sure that Eda knew that whatever she wanted to do, Raine would be by her side to support her no matter what.

It wasn't until what would have been the end of Eda's 1st trimester prenatal healing coven scan that they realized that the curse didn't allow her to carry to full term. It seemed that the owl beast didn't like the thought of having to share Eda's magic and body with another form, especially one that would rely so heavily on Eda's magic to grow.

Raine and Eda both mourned the loss of the tiny witchlet that they never had a chance to meet.

Their breakup with Eda years later had Raine going back to concluding that their 14-year-old self was right. Soulmates weren't a thing, because if they were, they were ABSOLUTELY sure that Eda was theirs. Time had proved that to them once again.

Or did it...?

Raine had watched from the sidelines as a now older Eda, with long silver and white hair evaded the scouts once again in the market.

They had watched from afar as she sold human items at a small stall in the market to those witches who were curious in human customs along with a small demon with a skull head.

They had less time after they became the Head of the Bard Coven, but even then, they still took it upon themselves to try to see how she was doing once in a while.

The next time Raine saw Eda from afar, it was with a young child around the same age they were when they met wearing a purple and white sweater with cat ears on the hood and shorts. When did Eda have a child? If so, with who? Raine's mind went a mile a minute, wondering about all the possibilities. After the loss of their own, Eda swore up and down that she would never try again.

Raine was about to stomp up to Eda and demand answers when the young child's hood had fallen off due to a demon pushing past. Their round ears caught Raine's attention real fast. 'A human?' Raine thought. How in titan's name did they get here? Raine hesitated a bit before coming to their senses, now figuring out that Eda, the human child, and the stall were gone.

The next time they saw Eda was through their crystal ball at what was supposed to be her petrification ceremony. They had caught a case of the common mold and was unable to attend what the Emperor had only declared to them as a ceremony dedicated to the outstanding work of Lilith Clawthorne. They almost had a heart attack as they sickly pushed their way through their BATTs saying they needed to save Eda from her death. Katya had very much told them that as they were whining and whimpering about how the love of their life was about to die...The crystal ball had reported that Eda had escaped and was now on the run. Raine had breathed a sigh of relief before collapsing on the floor.

It was then at their protest with the BATTs where they saw and spoke to Eda again. Eda embarrassing them in front of their kids like it was just yesterday that they were back at hexside acting like nothing went wrong. Going along with their little rebellion family. Just being with Eda brought them with so much joy they practically almost forgot about the little demon and human they saw with Eda before...

Until it was when they tried to take down Darius and Eber that they realized...SHIT... Eda had kids. She had two people that relied on her presence in their lives and they almost had her DIE to fight a cause that they believed in (granted they would have died too but they didn't have kids that relied on them. Katya, Derwin and Amber were pretty much adults). Raine couldn't have her do that...They held back tears as they released Eda's hand and let Darius' abomination swallow them.

After that, it was when they had to pretend that they forgot all about her at the Coven Day Parade. It hurt to have to fight her, to tell her they couldn't be associated with wild witches like her... but Raine was determined to not bring her into any more trouble if they could help it. They could stop the Day of Unity with Darius and Eber and the BATTs. They had too...

They couldn't -

Raine silently cursed when they next time they met, Eda was dressed in an outdated coven scout uniform, practically BEGGING for Raine to keep her kids safe. Offering herself for petrification just to seal her end of the bargain. They covered their mouth to try to hide the pain in their face as to not give away their secret that they in fact do remember everything. 'I promise to keep you safe' they thought to themselves.

The universe had a funny way bringing Raine back to Eda. No matter how many times they tried to stay away, they always were rerouted right back into Eda' vicinity. After that heartbreaking bargain of her life for her kids, Raine had to step in and conclude that there was no way that this was going to work without Eda in the equation. The rest of their time before the Day of Unity went so fast it was almost like a blur...

They had gone and saved Eda and her kids from being brought to Belos.

Eda and her kids had joined the rebellion and they had come up with a plan to stop the Day of Unity

The Day of Unity finally had come and while the fight was long and hard, they had come out victorious.

'We Did It' Raine had thought to themselves as they watched all of the people they care about rejoice. 'We really did it'

Now... If you ask Raine Whispers in their 40+ years of living if they believed in soulmates, their answer would be a hardcore YES as they held their now wife in their arms as they both slept in the nest. Raine had been up for the last few minutes, caressing Eda's silver hair as they reminisced about their life and how it had let up to this precise moment.

"EDAAAAAAAAAA" They had heard from downstairs. Following a crash and a slightly gruff voice curse right after. Ah, it seemed that Hunter and Luz were up.

"I swear to titan I'm going to throw them both off a cliff into the boiling sea" The cursed witch groaned into her partner's shoulder. Raine chuckled.

"You know you love them both... just be lucky it's not King that's causing a ruckus-" they started to say before they heard the slight pitter patter of feet running to their room and slamming the door open.

"MOM! NINI! HUNTER AND LUZ ARE MAKING A MESS IN THE KITCHEN" The little demon shouted before running and jumping between both his parents to hide from his siblings.

"YOU LITTLE SNITCH" Luz gasped from the door. The young witch had what looked to be flour on her face and griffin egg on her shirt.

Raine took this as an opportunity to get up and pry King off his mother. "Alright Alright...let's go see what the damage is and if we can clean it up before your mother decides that Hooty is an only child"

"HOOT HOOT! THAT MEANS I GET ALLLLLL THE ATTENTION" The house demon chided. King and Luz's eyes widened.

"WE'LL GO CLEAN IT UP" They both said as they ran out the door of the room. Raine laughed and went to Eda's side of the nest where she was still face first in a pillow.

"Eda my love... it's time to get up" They gently soothed as they ran their fingers through her hair.

"mmmm... five more minutes" Their wife groaned.

"Eda... it's well past 10am... I think it's time to at least make yourself known to your kids that you're still alive"

"They'll be fine... you go... I'll meet you in a bit"

Raine sighed. It did not look like Eda was going to get up any time soon. Might as well know what their kids was causing all that ruckus for. They slowly got up and walked out the door to the stairs of the owl house. They heard the hushed voices in the kitchen sudden stop when they reached the bottom of the steps.

"Alright guys... what do we have-" They were instantly cut off by the display in the kitchen.

Despite the obvious signs that the kitchen was in a state of disarray. They noted the pots and pans in the sink along with the entire counter being hastily wiped where the flour had obviously been spilled upon. There was a bowl of cooked griffin eggs in the middle as well as some cured meats and toast. Decorated along the counter is what appeared to be little light glyphs that Luz had put to look like fairy lights along with several balloons that had the inscription 'Happy Birthday'

Hunter, Luz and King all stood with smiles on their face. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY NINI" They all screamed.

Raine chuckled as all the kids tackled them with a hug. "Wow...Thank you kids, this is very thoughtful"

They noticed Luz was practically shaking with excitement for some reason.

"So did Eda tell you the big news-" Luz started out before Hunter slapped a hand over her mouth.

"W-What she means is, did Eda tell you Happy Birthday this morning?" he nervously chuckled. That was odd...

"Um... no... not yet" They answered. Hunter nodded and shot a glare at Luz who looked like she was about to combust.

"Ahhh...well uhhhh... E-Eda had wanted me to take Luz and King out to deliver some potions so...Yeah! We're going to go do that, Alright? Bye Nini!" Hunter called out as he basically dragged Luz and King out the house.

To say that wasn't odd would be the understatement of the year Raine thought to themselves before shrugging and turning back to the kitchen to help themselves to a plate of whatever their kids had made. They almost didn't notice Eda by the table. She had washed up and put her hair into a ponytail. They noticed she was nervously tapping her fingers on the table while lost in thought.

"Good morning, Calamity" Raine greeted, wrapping their arms around Eda's waist. Not noticing her tense up.

"O-Oh...good morning rainestorm...where are the kids?" she questioned.

"Hunter said that you had asked them to make a potions delivery? He practically dragged Luz and King away once Luz had asked if you told me the big news...?" They questioned. Eda swore.

"Of course, she did...Kid can't keep a secret to save her life" Eda chuckled.

Raine now looked concerned. Secret? After all this time back together, Eda had never kept a secret from them. She even opened up about her curse. How Lilith was the one who had cursed her. how during her petrification ceremony, Lilith had realized what a big mistake she had made and how she had shared the curse with Eda in order to bring Eda back from permanently becoming an owl beast. She had also mentioned to Raine how her and the Owl Beast had come to terms with sharing a body, thus allowing her to become the Harpy Lady. Raine was in awe that all this growth happened while they were apart and was just so happy to finally be back in her life.

"It's not a bad secret! I promise!" Eda had hastily said once she saw the look on Raine's face. "I just told her to keep it a secret because I wanted to tell you myself"

"Oh..." Raine should have thought of that first before rushing to the conclusion that Eda was keeping secrets again. "So... what's the news you wanted to tell me?"

Eda bit her lip and fiddled with her fingers. "I... think that we should both sit down for this" she said before leading Raine to the couch. After a few more deep breaths, Eda began.

"Remember in our 20s... how we thought about starting a family?" Eda sighed before getting up and going to a chest that was beside the couch. Raine nodded.

"Yeah... that was before-" They stopped. After losing that one witchlet, they never really brought it up to Eda before... nor did Eda do the same.

"Yeah...It was really devastating... I know that I used to mention how I didn't think motherhood was something that I would be good at... but then after we broke up... I thought more and more about how I COULDN'T be a mom no matter how much I tried..." Eda spoke, holding back tears as she grabbed a gift that was in the chest and returned to the couch to give it to Raine. They inspected it. It looked to be a flat box wrapped in red and gold wrapping.

"But then I found King... and I realized... he's not a witchlet... but he is a baby and he needed a mom... And I raised him and Titan... I think I did a pretty damn good job of it!" She laughed. Raine smiled as they looked at her, agreeing wholeheartedly.

"Then Luz came into my life... and while she has a mom... she still looked up to me in a motherly way... and I just couldn't let her down... Titan...even Cam knows now she's my kid too"

Raine caressed her cheek with their hand. Forgetting all about opening the gift that Eda had given them.

"And now Hunter... Boy... is that a kid who needs so much work" Eda huffed. Raine remembered when Luz first brought Hunter to the Owl House. The boy was nothing but skin and bones, anxiety stirred all through him. His eye bags looked designer as Luz liked to joke. It took them so long to get him to open up and be comfortable in their presence, but once he did, it was like a new light opened up. The day he called Eda mom and Raine Nini was the day they both collapsed and sobbed on the floor at the cuteness of their children.

"So, what I'm trying to say is... While I know they're not my biological kids...They're still my kids and I love them with every fiber of my being... And I hope that this won't change anything because I know they're more excited about this then anything and I really hope you will be too..." Eda continued before looking at Raine and noticing the gift wasn't open yet. "Rainestorm...I'm going to need you to open that gift before I continue" she smiled.

Raine froze and retracted their hand. "Oops...sorry Calamity... I was just intrigued by your story" they laughed before taking the gift and opening it up. They took the wrapping off of it first before slowly opening the flat box that contained...tissue paper? That was odd. Raine picked up the tissue paper and slowly began unraveling it till a piece of small cloth landed on their lap. Once they discarded the tissue paper and placed the now empty flat box on the floor. They picked up the cloth and unfolded it reading something in bright bold letters.

"Tiny bard in the making-" They read before slowly coming to terms with what they were holding.

It was a onesie.

A baby onesie.

Raine slowly looked at Eda with wide eyes. No...there was no way... they got confirmation that Eda couldn't... And yes... they were well into their 40s... but... witches in their 40s got pregnant all the time... Titan... they could even be pregnant well into their 60s if they were healthy enough.

It seemed that Eda could clearly read their mind.

"So... as it turns out... While yes, I couldn't hold to full term when we were younger... because of me sharing the curse with Lily AND coming to full terms and agreements with beasty here... that significantly lowered the chance of me losing it... like... a lot" She confirmed. "Beasty here in my head is even excited about having a little owlet to preen and confirmed that they won't come near them or have my body reject them so... What I'm finally trying to say is..." Eda let out a huge breath that she didn't even know she was holding before turning on the couch to face Raine who was still frozen in shock.

"What do you say Rainy Day...wanna try this family thing again?"

Raine took in a deep breath. Tears starting to form at the edge of their eyes. "Yes Calamity...YES!" they cried before enveloping Eda in a monstrous hug.

The moment couldn't have been any better. That was... until the door had opened and their three other kids had toppled in one after another. Luz on the bottom of the pile, arms stretched out and face sweaty and red, Hunter on top of her and King on top of all of them like a king standing on his throne. Luz was the first to break the silence.

"FINALLY. IT WAS ABOUT DAMN TIME"
