Locked In/Out

"I have to meet up with the team!"

"Too bad."

Jaune groaned in protest as the short girl stood before him, twirling a key around her finger all while whistling and humming a tune. The morning had been interesting to say the least at the apartment of one Ruby Rose and Jaune Arc. For context, Ruby had decided today was the day she would like Jaune to–

"Say it to me… pleaseeeeeeee~" Ruby cooed in a sweet voice.

Jaune sighed in exasperation once again. His attempt at leaving their bedroom once again foiled by a pair of gorgeous batting eyes. The girl was turning out all the tricks at attempting to get him to say those words she wanted to hear. She had done this a few times in the past, but never as relentless as now. Was this considered domestic terrorism?

"Maybe if you say it, I'll unlock the door. Who knows?"

"That's not fa– wait, did you plan this?"

"Maybe."

Jaune slumped in his stance slightly at the girl's one word answer. Her shrug only added to the proof he needed that she had been waiting for just the occasion when he would be called away on a mission to try and push along her narrative.

The two had been living together for the better half of a month and had been dating since graduation a few weeks prior to that. Since then, the two had become closer and closer as one would expect, which is a good thing, or rather it should be. The problem now is… well… Ruby was ready to say those three all important words. Jaune on the other hand–

"This is entrapment!" He wailed.

"I don't think that's what that means."

"Blackmail then!"

"That's better."

Jaune made a quick attempt for the key, hoping he could catch her off guard, but as usual, no dice. Ruby sighed at his poor attempt to try and run away before placing the key in her pocket, much to the blonde's displeasure. She rolled her eyes at his opposition. This whole thing could be over if he would simply submit.

Ruby herself was ready to make the commitment to such a short statement, but she was not going to be the first between them to say it. It was a matter of pride after all, so he would have to be the first one to do so. Her hands were tied on the subject, at least mentally.

"You can't seriously keep me imprisoned here?"

She shrugged again at his question. "I can damn well try. If you would just say the words, you could be free from such a sentence."

Jaune blushed at the girl's comment. He knew what she was doing, as did she. She wasn't going to say it first and had insisted he'd do it. Now, what was his problem? Same as any low self-esteem teen boy. Embarrassment. Unfortunately, it seems she was holding the winning card for the battle. He needed to get going, and she knew that.

"I…"

"Yeeeeeeesss~"

"I am going out the window!"

The girl's mind blanked as she watched the boy make a break for the window. Quickly, he opened and climbed out before she could snag him, subsequently landing on his butt on the fire escape. They exchanged a glance for a moment before Jaune took the opportunity to abscond down the rickety stairway down to the street level.

He made his way down the road, looking back at brief intervals to hear a very distressed girlfriend yelling from the balcony, causing multiple eyes to land on him as if he was a cheating boyfriend who had just been caught in the act, meanwhile it couldn't be further from the truth.

Ruby watched as Jaune disappeared from her vision, turning the nearest corner possible. She retreated back into the bedroom and closed the window before pouting. He had escaped… but it was only for now.

She huffed to herself as she remained in silence. Perhaps she would have to use more drastic measures. Maybe it was time to consult some of the other girls? In any case, she was going to win this war. This war of love.
