Rainy Day

"I can't believe we're stuck inside on our first day off together in over two weeks!" Ruby whined as she continued to stare out the apartment window. "I'm starting to think there is some conspiracy to keep us from having fun!"

The rainstorm continued to worsen as she fixated on the dark clouds above. What was once going to be a "light storm that passes through the area" was now apparently the storm of the century. There wasn't much that could put a damper on Ruby's mood, but the weather ruining the chance to check out the weapon's shop or perus the new bakery was definitely one of them, so you could imagine the overwhelming sense of helplessness she was experiencing at this given moment.

There was also the fact that both Jaune and her had been exceptionally busy during this time. Ruby could blame herself for most of that though having still not gotten the whole paperwork thing down after completing a mission. Given all the travel time she had between completing her tasks and eliminating Grimm, you'd think that most of it would be done by the time one arrived back at base… yeah, you'd definitely think that.

Such was not the case for one Ruby Rose.

"Yeah, it's really strange how the weather took a turn." Jaune replied as he leaned in behind the shorter girl, peeking out the increasingly less-visible window of the room.

"How can you be so calm about this?!" Ruby shrieked in discontent before flopping onto the couch beside the two. "I had a whole day of activities planned!"

"Did they involve multiple trips to the coffee shop and possibly the bakery?"

Ruby squinted at the boy from the couch, noticing his almost mockful smile. "I don't know if I like your tone. It's almost accusatory."

"So I was right?"

"The weapons shop was also on the list!" Ruby dramatically chastised. " So no! You're not right, Mr. Smarty Pants!"

"But…" Jaune added before looking down. "I'm wearing shorts."

Ruby merely groaned at the boy's poor attempt at what she perceived to be a joke. Couldn't he see how serious this was?! After all, a young blossoming couple needed to keep things fresh and active when they had the time. A day stuck inside might as well be a day wasted.

"It's not the end of the world, Rubes." Jaune chuckled again before heading towards their kitchen and opening the cabinet.

"Oh yeah? What's your plan then?"

She watched as he retrieved two mugs from the cabinet, placing them gently on the counter. He motioned at her to come join him in the kitchen with his hand. She sighed with skepticism as she sat up from her lying position. This had better be good if she was getting up from being annoyed but at least comfortable.

Ruby walked over to the counter, leaning over to see him going through their fridge, retrieving the milk. She liked where it was going, but milk wasn't going to do it this time. She desired chocolate. Gooey, delicious chocolate.

That's when he went to their other cabinet, retrieving the marshmallows and powdered chocolate they bought when they first moved in a few months back. Much like their recent days, they'd been too busy to enjoy it like they'd promised. It was amazing how time just got away from them.

"I'm listening…" She spoke.

"You're watching you mean. I never said anything."

"Don't ruin the moment."

"It was my– Nevermind. Anyway, we bought this and we said we would enjoy it together when we had the time. Seems like today might be the best chance to make our own hot cocoa."

Ruby's frown curved into a weak smile. This was something they had planned to do together. It was a moment they wanted to experience for the first time amongst all the other things they'd planned.

She blinked for a moment as she continued to watch him prepare to get things started. There were a lot of things they said they wanted to do when they moved in. Things that she may have forgotten about. Things that maybe they could do now?

"We should watch that movie we wanted to see months ago!" She exclaimed.

"Yeah, good idea!" He retorted with a smile. "Maybe order takeout from that place you wanted to try out a while ago?"

Oh, she definitely liked where this was going.

"We've also got those game Uncle Qrow bought us for our moving in gift!"

"Don't forget our new comics came in last week."

"This is great!" She squealed with excitement. "I love rainy days."

The boy scoffed from the other side of the counter, continuing to make the hot chocolate. The sweet smells filled up the small room the pair occupied. A few minutes later, the drinks were ready, food had been ordered, and a movie was ready to play on the television as the two took a sip from their drinks as they snuggled up on the couch. The sound of the rain hitting the window only added to the enjoyable ambiance the two shared.

"So, how did Mr. Smarty Pants do?" Jaune commented with a sly smile.

Ruby rolled her eyes in response before giving him a peck on the cheek. "You're wearing shorts."

Days inside can be just as fun.
