Caroline was home alone, on a rainy day. All of her loved ones were busy, her mom was at work, Elena was probably busy enjoying her time with Stefan.. Or Damon. Only god knows which Salvatore holds the key to her most complex heart. Matt was working a shift at the Grill and Bonnie was working on some spells for a knew scheme to get the Mikaelson's out of the picture. It was always something that was going on with that cursed family. Not even just the family, these past few months there had always been some sort of old ancient vampire issue that had been going on. Granted, she had not always been involved with the schemes but it always seemed to affected the people who she held dear to her. She was sick of all this stupid ancient drama. Why couldn't everyone just suck it up and stopped bothering each other? The feud between her friends and the Mikaelson's had seemed so stupid. Klaus needs Elena's blood for his hybrids, but doesn't he have his own family? Why couldn't Klaus just focus on his own? And why does the gang have to keep on pushing to kill Klaus, he is literally immortal. She just wishes that they could accept the fact that he cannot die and maybe even try to help Klaus focus on his family rather than Elena. She is fully aware of all the harmful deeds that Klaus has dumb but, if you can't beat them, well, join them!
Boredom creeps in her mind as she dully watches whatever dumb rom-com she has turned on. TV and movies have been just getting so boring nowadays, for the first time in her life her own actual LIFE had been more interesting that the stuff she had seen on TV. Vampires, werewolves, ancient old people, all these things have just been so surreal. Even if her own life had been more interesting that doesn't mean she had been enjoying all the drama she's been put through. Just a couple months ago the only thing she ever worried about was high school dances, student council, valedictorian, and being jealous of Elena. Now almost everyday her life had been at stake, she liked the thrill but at the same time it was way too much for her. Considering the fact that she has been sick of drama she did not understand a new problem that recently had popped into her life, her crush on Klaus. She couldn't understand how she wanted to run away from her drama but at the same time fantasize about a core center of the drama. Said thoughts about running away always included running away with a certain big bad wolf. Klaus had taken an interest in her in a way no one had ever done before, and it made her feel amazing. She had gotten an original vampire all wrapped around her finger, without even trying! Although, the whole idea of having him wrapped around her finger made her feel a little guilty. Her friends always made her use it to their advantage. That day when Damon brought up the fact that Klaus is obsessed with her flashed back into her brain. Damon always made her use Klaus's interest in her against him, and that was not right. She knows Klaus isn't perfect himself, and often times he takes advantage of others but that doesn't mean she wanted to stoop to his level! Klaus was always so kind and understanding, to her at least. It was weird seeing how different he could act around her in contrast how he acts towards others, although she did not know why.
You're beautiful, you're-you're strong.. You're full of light. I enjoy you.
She felt her face heat up at the memory of his words. His stutter was adorable, she never had heard him stutter before that day, that glorious day. The way he spoke to her, it was soft, kind. Like a warm smooth melody that flooded through her ears and sent warmth to her heart. A cold song that would light up when you wouldn't expect it too, but not overwhelming, a nice surprise. She found herself moving her fingers as if she were playing a piano. Once she caught herself she thought about how she hadn't used the grand piano her father purchased for her on her 12th birthday. She hadn't played let alone touch a set of keys since freshman year. Klaus would definitely take interest in her ability to play -- but what does she care!? What she does is not for him, its for her.
Where is that piano anyways? I haven't seen it in forever. She stood up and repositioned the cushions into their right places. She wandered into the hallways of her home. She came across the door which holds her father's old office. This door never gets opened. An idea pops up in her brain, so she opens the door. The bright light blinded her eyes as soon as she entered, even though it was dark and gloomy out. She blinked and took in the old dusty room. It was filled with boxes upon boxes, the cream wall paint accompanied by some old soft paintings. She turned to the bookshelf, noticing the dust that piled up on the books. A big object covered by a blanket captured her eye, she walked up to it and it did not take her long to realize what is hidden underneath. She grabs a spot of the white dirty fabric and removes it, sending dust flying everywhere. Behold, a grand white piano, it did not suit the house décor at all because of its elegance. She placed the fabric down and ran her fingers across the white polish, taking account the gold accents. She quickly ran to the kitchen and grabbed a cloth and cleaning spray, then quickly ran back. She wiped all over the piano, trying to get as much dust off it as she possibly could. Once she finished her quick clean, she sat down on the piano chair and placed her fingers on the keys, she took a deep breath and played a melody of what quickly came to mind, Klaus.
Her soft fingers glided across the polished white keys. The rhythm started off slow, dark and ominous. It was almost as if the melody represented the mask Klaus likes to put up. The mask he puts up to hide his loneliness, his fear and his compassion. The mask of cruelty he shows off. Although she does not fully understand the root of that mans problems, she can assume many things. She finds herself wanting to understand him, to know him. To find out the reasons he locks away on why he likes to do the things he does. She is well aware of the surface, but she wants to invade his mind, she wants to know all the things that make him.. Him. Maybe if she could finally help his lost soul, his light could outshine his darkness. She is well aware of his light, Caroline has seen it herself. She has seen how kind he could be, and she wishes he could learn to act like that as a whole. Although, she secretly does love the thought of a man only showing vulnerability to her, and never caring about anyone else. Her feelings contradict one another, the light in her wants him to open up to the world, to show his kindness. But the dark in her, she wants the beast to only be tamed to her and her alone. She focuses on her light, the thought of his kindness, his compassion. Once those flooding thoughts enter her brain, the melody changes to a softer one, a kinder one. The soft tune contrasted to the wind blowing and the rain pouring outside her window. The rain, the grand piano, the melody, it all just screamed Klaus. A melody Caroline never thought she could muster up, all because of him. The man she claims to hate is the source of her inspiration. All of a sudden, the melody stopped and an urge popped up into her brain. If Klaus wanted to show her his passions, why not return the favor?
She brought out her phone which previously laid in her pocket. She scrolled down her contacts in search of the hybrid. She found his number, he gave it to her in case of emergency, or as he would say, if she just wanted to chat. She started to type,
Hey.
He responded almost immediately, Hello love, do what do I owe the pleasure?
Do you think you can come over? Like, now?
She could almost feel the smugness ooze out of the phone, I always have time for you Caroline, although, I am a bit curious, what is it that you need of me?
I want to show you something.
Oh? And what might that be?
She recycled one of his statements, One of my passions.
I'll be there in 5.
Her heart fluttered in his response, but she needs to act fast. She vamp-sped to her bedroom and flashed out of her lounge clothes to a short baby pink pencil skirt that rested just a little bit above her upper thigh. The skirt was cute with just a tad bit of scandalous. Resting above her skirt was a cropped white creamy sweater, it showed off the high waisted skirt. She shimmed long creamy white sweater-like thigh highs that matched her top along her legs as she heard a knock from the door,
"One second!" She yelled, knowing Klaus heard her through his enhanced hearing.
She quickly applied a light makeup that made her eyes, cheeks and rosy lips stand out. Her mascara was dark but casual and her cheeks were pink and her lips shimmered matched her cheeks by being a glossy pink lipgloss. Once she finished she strutted out to the front door, not bothering to wear shoes in front of him. Once she opened the hard wood door, Klaus appeared before her with a bright smile on his face. He was dressed in a dark Henley with navy jeans and black combat boots. He looked like an handsome London Rockstar, she relished in it. She noticed he was a little damp, she assumed it was because of the rain. The dampness in his hair made him look even sexier. They both were eyeing each other up, Klaus took notice in the hem of her long sock revealing a slight tightness making the pudge of her leg stick out, he drank it up. His reaction made her blush through her already pre-pink cheeks.
"Have you gotten yourself dolled up for me love?"
She gulped at his words, "Don't be silly, of course not. Come in, you're gonna get even more wet."
She stepped aside and let Klaus walk in He lightly rubbed his shoes along the welcome mat making sure he doesn't get any water onto her floor. She closed the door behind him as he turned around half way to face her.
"Now as much as I enjoy your company alone, I believe you had something to show me?"
"Oh! Uh, yes." She slowly made her way in front of him, signaling him to follow her. She made her way to the old room, walking inside of it as he followed. She noticed Klaus inhaling all the old scents of the room. He looked good when he was focused. His gaze shifted over to the obscure piano, it was beautiful, it didn't match the room at all but it alone was breathtaking. He watched her sit down in the seat.
"This was a gift from my dad on my 12th birthday, it was very special to me."
"I was not aware you played."
She let out a small laugh. "Past tense played, I haven't since freshman year. Until inspiration struck me today."
"Oh? What inspired you love?"
She looked directly into his eyes, "You."
He was not expecting that response, nor was he expecting her ability to play.
She started again, "You're an ass, but.. You inspired me to do this. I made a song this morning that I didn't even know I could play. I never have even written my own song before. It was the essence of you."
He just stared at her, not knowing how to respond. The Big Bad Wolf, tongue tied. Only she could make him both feel and act like this.
"Can I show you?"
"B-By all means!" He tried to control his voice crack but was left unable. He mentally slapped himself for stuttering in front of her once again.
She smiled warmly at him, a smile she has never directed at him before. The warmth of her smile sent a nice vibration straight to his heart. He watched her take a deep breath and place her fingers on the keys. She pressed down on them and started play. He felt his jaw drop lightly once the music filled the hollow room. The dark and ominous tune engulfed his brain. He watched her eyes close, her focus was entirely on the piano. She was relaxed and calm, the only thing that seemed to matter in this moment was the dark melody. He was able to play the piano quite exceptionally, although he could never reach the depths of emotion that this woman could reach. Over the hundreds of years he had been on this earth he had heard many professional musicians play their tunes, though none could compare to her. The dark rhythm brought flashes of the lowest parts of his life to the surface, the parts he had suppressed for a long time. The healed scars of his father whipping him as a child felt as if they were being reopened. Without realizing it, he felt tears roll down his face. Memories of his deceased younger brother, memories of his still lasting siblings and the pain they have went through due to his actions flood his brain. Suddenly, the tune changed. It was light, soft, and it was beautiful. It was if a welcoming goddess witnessed each shard of the pain he has went through and melt all his troubles away. His tears kept flooding, the inner child in him was being embraced, and without Caroline's knowledge, it was being loved. He felt his cold, undead heart melt with the sympathy of the beauty before him.
For the first time, in a long time, she felt himself blush. In this moment, she was the only one who mattered to him. It was if she was the only woman on earth. No one else matters, she is the light to his darkness, she is the woman who could tame this Big Bad Wolf. This baby vampire, is the woman he was in love with. Nobody in his many years of life has been able to fill him with such exuberance, no woman had ever made him shed tears, she is the one. As the melody kept playing, he watched how her own playing affected her, how could someone who refers herself as a novice play like this? This song could represent him and his hardships, but she played only for herself, not for his satisfaction. As much as he likes to be the one in control, he loves the way that she will not let him to control her. She is her own person, no one could ever tell her different.
Once she finishes the song, he steps toward her. Once she reopened her eyes she turned, waiting to hear his thoughts. She was greeted by an astonishing sight, his jaw was slightly hung open, his eyebrows were turned up and his cheeks were red and stained with tears. He was panting, she could hear the dead heart pounding in his chest. Before she could protest, he bent down to her face as she sat down and placed his lips onto hers. The moisture of the tears brushed up against her face as well as the rough texture of his stubble. This kiss was something she had never experienced before, it was pure genuine love. Typically kisses for her were mostly rushed, inexperienced or sex-derived. Her relationship with Tyler was very dependent on sex, they went on many dates or had much romantic based experiences. Most times they were hanging out it always ended with sex, and the sex wasn't anything amazing, just horny teenagers getting it on, no making love at all. And after she met Klaus, she often fantasized about him to get herself off when she was with Tyler. This was a new sensation, it was a clear way of proclaiming his love towards her. He brought his hands up to cup her cheeks, deepening the kiss. She felt fresh new tears wetten her face as she reciprocated his act of love. It wasn't rough or rushed, it was slow, and passionate. Caroline brought her arms up and laced them around the crook of his neck. It was like kissing an angel up in a pile of white fluffy clouds. Her soft pink lips connected like a missing puzzle piece to Klaus' raspberry ones. At this minute, a stream started to fall from Carolines eyes as well. Silent tears from one another dropped as they embraced each other. Caroline was the first to pull back. For a moment, only a moment, she gazed into his eyes with a clear view of the broken man before her, his hardships, his struggles. The mutual gaze they shared was undeniably the most vulnerable experience she had ever witnessed. This wounded soul, was her soulmate.
"Klaus. I think 'm in love with you." The words fell out of her mouth.
He smiled and placed his forehead onto hers, "I think I'm in love with you too."
