Notes from author: Sonic, Amy, and Zooey find Tails' e-journal lying around and ask him if they can read it, to which he reluctantly agrees. The entries on Tails' journal recount how Zooey (16), Tails (15), Amy (20), Sonic (22), Sticks (19?) and Knuckles (24) were all eating at Meh Burger, when Sonic accidentally revealed that he and Amy were watching Tails and Zooey on a date, unknown to the other two. He then learned that recent couple Sonic and Amy will vacation on Paradise Island. Sonic vindictively reads Tails' story of spying on him and Amy. I got significantly carried away.
Sonic knocked on the door or Tails' cabin.
"Hey, Sonic! I'm back!" Tails greeted excitedly, after opening the door.
"I know! It seems like you had just gone."
"Mind if we come in?" Sonic asked, referring to him and Amy.
"Sure, come on in!"
Zooey came over to the door to see who had just arrived. "Hi, guys!" She greeted.
"Hi, Zooey!" Amy responded, knocking over a thick, black tablet device set on a nearby table. "What was that?"
"No! My journal!" yelled a concerned Tails.
"Don't worry, bud." Sonic comforted. He switched it on. "See? No damage." He continued pressing buttons on it. "Ooh, lots of activity this week. Starting on April 26. Is that when you followed us on vacation?"
"Yeah."
"Sweet." He said nonchalantly, still distracted. "Can we read it?"
Everyone gasped in shock at what Sonic just said.
"You literally just came here!" Tails raised his voice. "Why would you ask that?"
Zooey came to Tails' defense. "Yeah, that's a bit rude to ask that." She put her hand on his shoulder. He reached over and grabbed her hand.
Sonic continued to play with Tails' device.
"Fine," Tails grunted. "I guess you can read it." He snatched the device from Sonic. "I put in a lot when we were on vacation. I didn't want to forget any of it." Tails said, while motioning to his couches. "You guys can take a seat. Okay, here we are. This is after Sonic told us they watched our date." He handed his e-journal back to Sonic. "Begin there."
"Okay, here we go." Sonic began, once they were all seated.
{PM: All speech between characters not inside the journal will be in bold.}
I felt betrayed that he could do such a thing. I swear I could have beaten Sonic halfway home, but this was in public!
Sonic: "What does halfway home mean?"
Tails: "Half to death."
What was I supposed to do? I looked over at Zooey and we telepathised a solution on how to deal with this civilly. I grabbed Amy's hand and put my other arm around her back as I escorted her to the side, completely ignoring her crying over my shoulder. I looked over at Zooey taking a hurt Sonic away. Perhaps I should not have liked seeing a tortured soul such as that.
Sonic: "What's wrong with you?"
Tails: "I felt avenged."
Knuckles and Sticks looked at us with confusion. It was then that I realized that our team was composed of three lovely couples. Not like that mattered now. I sat Amy down and sat across a small table from her, and Zooey did the same to Sonic.
Amy revealed that she had been the one who dragged Sonic into spying on us.
"Well, that about wraps it up, then! But I still have a question: Why did you follow us in the first place? Did Sonic take you with him?"
"It was all my fault, Tails!" She sobbed. "I dragged him into it. Take it all out on me, but let him go!"
"That doesn't answer my question?"
"I can't mind my own business, Tails. It's so hard! I wanted to know how you were doing in your relationship, a little too much. I know what I did was wrong, but I did it anyway. I don't know why I added him to the mess."
At this point, I was getting worried. "Why are you so fixated on him?"
"Look at him! He's so sad. I dragged him into this. He's weak inside, Tails. I can't bear to see him like this." She pointed over to Sonic, and it was a sight to ruin my whole day. He was sobbing and shaking out of control. If he sobbed any harder, I was afraid he would asphyxiate. Sonic: "Coming from a guy who never cries, I let a whole lot of emotions out then."
Amy: "I was really worried for you."
Tails and Zooey look over at each other.
I wanted to dismiss them now. I leaned in really close and whispered "Do I really have to tell you to go over to him? He needs you, and now!"
I watched as she walked over to Sonic who met her in the middle. They embraced each other, and practically cried onto each other. I leaned over to Zooey and whispered "So beautiful, but so tragic. I'd hate to send 'em home crying." This earned me a well-deserved slap.
Amy: "Well done, Zooey." Sonic nods in agreement. Tails stares in shock at them.
We returned to the table where Knuckles and Sticks were watching in shock at everything that had just occurred. I explained, as formally as possible, what they had done and why we had taken them to the side. To my surprise, they seemed to understand.
Once they had regathered their emotions, the lovely couple returned to the table. After a few minutes of rather forgettable small talk, we went our own ways. (I was a bit disappointed to see Knuckles and Sticks leave separately.)
After an unusually undignified experience, I asked Zooey. "What did you get out of Sonic? Did he start blaming?"
"No, he just seemed to accept it. He thought we were going to take revenge on them or something. He begged me to take it out on him and leave Amy alone.
"Huh, that's interesting. Amy pleaded with me to spare Sonic - Interesting. They're getting along really nicely for a couple, and they're willing to sacrifice themselves for the other. It's just too cute!"
Sonic: "Hey, who you calling cute, buster?"
Zooey, looking over at Amy: "Is it not obvious?"
Amy suppresses a laugh.
Sonic groans and continues reading.
"Well, you did seem to enjoy them crying on each other a bit too much, but I'd have to agree with you there." She took a notepad out of seemingly nowhere. "It looks like my day is all cleared out. Since Eggman's injured, I got nothing important for a few days."
Perfect, I thought to myself, I can finally get some time off. It's seven days a week. "Well, it's rare to say this, but it's vacation time!" Then I pulled off the biggest move I had ever done. "Would you mind awfully if I brought you with me?" It melted my heart when I saw her eyes shine with happiness. "Of course! You know it would mean a lot to me."
Zooey, looking charmed: "That's so sweet of you, Tails!"
Tails: "I had already planned that. It all depended on what you said."
"It's settled then!" I agreed. "I'm going back to take a nap, but I'll let you know if I get any ideas. I'll see you around!" I already knew this was bound to be a great week. I could feel it.
I was barely dozing off when I was rudely awakened by some loud banging on my door. When I yelled across the house to see who was there, I was answered by silence. I knew who it was immediately and knew this wasn't going to be a good time. When I opened the door, Sonic hugged me close and tried not to cry. I instinctively knew that he wouldn't want to be seen like this, so I brought him into the house and shut and bolted the door.
Amy: "I didn't hear about this!"
Sonic, annoyed: "Good."
"Tails," he sobbed, "Can you forgive me?"
Time to get some more information out of him, I thought to myself. "Forgive you? For what? You were dragged into this. It's not like you did anything wrong."
He stared right back at me as I sat in a chair across from him. He whispered in my direction, "How did you know?"
"Ah, relax! Amy told me all about it. When Zooey told me that you told her you dragged Amy into this, I knew you were lying. You lied to get Amy out of trouble. Your heroism is… intense. It's all her fault, isn't it?"
He blushed and gave me a reticent smile. "I didn't want any of you to know that. You can take any revenge on me you want, just promise me you'll be nice to her."
Amy, emotional: "You're the best, Sonic!" Amy kisses Sonic on the cheek.
That was very gratifying. "I can't make any promises, but I'll be as respectful as I can, alright? I'll be nice. Just don't worry about anything."
After I said that, I was pleased to see him get his emotions together. "Well Tails, you know how to deal with this like a man. I'm indebted to you." I thought that when he got up, he was going to shake my hand, but he kissed me on both cheeks.
Zooey, shocked. "He did WHAT?"
Tails: "Don't worry about it."
Zooey looks discontented and sits back down.
This was an odd gesture, but nice. "I'm going away. I'll miss ya, little buddy! But I'll be back." He headed for the door.
"Hey, where you going?" I yelled back.
He looked back at me and then at the ground ."I promised Amy I would take her somewhere special. Since Eggman's been done in, I figured I could use a few days off. And with my new… relationship," he winked at me, "There's no better way to get some time together. We're going to Only The Best, and I'm looking forward to it. " His newfound confidence was really cute.
Sonic, slowly rising from chair: "You really gotta stop calling me cute, buddy. It's getting out of hand." Sonic calms down and sits down.
Amy: "Come on, you know it's true."
Sonic blushes and continues reading.
On the other hand, this allowed for an interesting plan for revenge. Perhaps if they were going to spy on Zooey and I, then perhaps we could follow them. What they don't know can't hurt them, I thought. After staring out the window for a few minutes to ensure Sonic was gone, I called Zooey.
"Hi, Tails!"
"Yo! This may sound random, but which hotel does your mom manage?"
"It's Only The Best on Paradise Island. Well named, too. What's up?"
"You see, Egghead's out of action for weeks, I got nothing to work on, and a certain… well, pair of hedgehogs is staying there. Do you get what I'm saying?"
"I don't think I do. Can you elaborate?"
Sonic, to Amy: "How on earth does she not know?"
"Sonic just visited me and before he left he said that he and Amy are going to Only The Best. I think that we can follow them there, to pay them back for what they did to us. And knowing your mom manages the place, I figured that this level of opportunity comes once in a lifetime. Wanna follow them over?"
"Tails, did I ever tell you that she doesn't manage the place? She owns it! I got a few questions for you now. When are they leaving, how long are they staying, and do you think we'll be seen?"
"I doubt that. I don't know how to answer the first 2. I guess I'll go to his shack and see."
"You're not going to… read his papers, are you?"
Amy, to Tails. "No, you did not!" Tails smirks at Amy.
"There is no knowledge that is not power. It's like I've been gifted this chance. I'll arrive at your place in under an hour and tell you everything I know. Blink and you'll miss it."
Tails winks at Amy.
"I'm already excited! See you then, sweetie!"
"Mata aumade, sweetheart."
{PM: Mata au made. また会うまで. Japanese for "until we meet again." English equivalent of "so long."}
What's to say, I laid my moves. But now, I had to know when they left and for how long. I had to make sure that if I entered his house, he wouldn't return until I was far gone. Knowing that he had just left minutes ago, and not to his nearby shack, there was plenty of time. As quickly as possible, I ran over to his shack and surveyed the area. He had actually left his cruise tickets on one of the tables near the door. It looked like they intended to have a good time.
Amy, nudging Sonic. "And we certainly did, didn't we?" Sonic: "Yeah we did!"
Tails: "Yeah, I noticed!" Tails gets annoyed glares from Sonic and Amy.
I took out my communicator and took a quick picture of it. Seeing his communicator on the table gave me a great idea. I ran back to my shack and grabbed a microchip. I slid this under the strap part of the communicator, so it wouldn't be seen. Whenever Sonic took his communicator with him, I could find him at any time. 2-0 in my favor.
Sonic, teasing: "Bad idea, little buddy!"
I arrived at Zooey's house feeling ecstatic. Not only was my desperate plan looking optimistic, but everything fell perfectly into place. When I showed Zooey the images, I realized that they were leaving at 06:00, tomorrow! (The ticket specifically said, 06:00., April 27. This time was 15:00, April 26.) We searched for Bygone Cruise Lines and found a great option. We bought tickets for a 2-day cruise starting at noon on the 27th. We would literally be six hours behind them!
After a long conversation with Zooey about our arrangements and a very long, boring, and poor customer service experience with Only The Best, we finally got through.
"Thanks for calling Only The Best Hotel, would you like to make a reservation?" asked a very artificial sounding voice from the other side.
"Yes, we'll be staying in your area beginning late on the 29th. Can you reserve a room for two there?"
"Certainly! How long will you be staying?"
"Give me one moment, and I'll get back to you." Zooey muted the phone. "Tails, what's the other ticket?"
"They return early on the third, by plane." I whispered back.
She got back on the phone. "We'll be staying until the third."
The receptionist picked up. "Perfect, and what name?"
"Prower."
Sonic, continuously speaking, but quietly: "Tails wears the pants in this relationship, I see."
"Alrighty then, we'll reserve room 1145 for you. Will you be paying once you arrive?"
I signaled a yes to Zooey. "Yep, we'll do that."
"Good. Will there be anything else?"
"Nope, thanks for the assistance. Bye!"
"Goodbye."
We had reserved our cruise tickets and hotel stays, and we were not even close to ready to go. The hours that followed were not much to speak of, but I did get a lot of packing done, that's for sure. After making a lengthy phone call to Zooey's parents, I returned home and got some sleep. It was already 21:00 by then, and I had no idea where my day went.
I woke up at the very reasonable hour of 07:00. I would have slept more, but I wanted to see Sonic and Amy leave, for reasons that totally weren't selfish. After helping myself to a large bowl of Cocoa Rings, I stopped by Zooey's house and we left to say goodbye to our friends. Little did they know we would be following them.
Sonic, instigating: "Yeah, and you kept it a secret for a full twelve hours!" He gets a disgusted glare from Zooey.
Once they were sent off, we had just under three hours to ourselves. I called Knuckles.
"Yo Knux, you there?"
"Yeah. What's good?"
"The hedgehogs have already left for vacation, and the foxes are about to do the same. Egghead's not going to be seeing any action for weeks. It's going to be just you and Sticks for a few days. Do I need to tell you to have a good time?"
"Nope! Message received. Thanks, Tails."
"It's not much to ask. Bye."
Now that they were kept up to date, my plan could be put into action. I whispered the same to Zooey. "Sounds like someone's trying to play matchmaker." Zooey teased. "And I'm looking forward to it."
Amy: "Matchmaker. That's a good name."
"Yeah, we got a few hours to kill. How about a rematch of volleyball for last game?"
She agreed, and when we arrived back at Sonic's shack, I grabbed a nearby volleyball and the first serve went up. And we p We actually played 3 games of first to 6 because she lost the first one and wanted a rematch. I ended up winning 2 of the games, placing me in the lead at 3-2.
"Sorry sweetie, there's no time for a rematch. If we're going to catch the cruise, then we have to leave now. I'll meet you there. Remember to bring both tickets with you."
As promised, we met up at the dock, both with our luggage. We waited about a half hour, and then the cruise ship arrived. I couldn't believe we were doing this. Once we had semi-comfortably set up our small cabin, the ship took off. We were met by the third dynamic duo waving us off. I don't know how they knew we were there, but they did.
Previous entries could not be saved. Next entry begins 02:30, April 30.
Tails: "This thing saves nothing without a good connection. We certainly enjoyed that time, though." Zooey winks at Tails.
On the last day of the cruise, I was woken up at 01:00 by an announcement from the captain. "Ladies and gentlemen, we have arrived at the dock. My apologies for the inconvenient timing, we arrived six hours later than expected. We will be leaving the ship in 30 minutes."
I was dead tired and didn't want to get up in the middle of the night. Zooey cuddled up to me (Did I mention this cramped cabin had only one bed?)
Sonic, loudly: "Woah-ha-ho, little buddy! Take it easy!"
Tails: "Get over it, I'm fifteen already!"
And voiced my thoughts. "Why couldn't they have given us until at least 06:00?"
I tried to calm her down. "Don't worry, we still got ten minutes." I turned the alarm clock on and pressed snooze, so we would have nine minutes without risking sleeping for too long. Sure enough, 9 minutes later, the clock faithfully went off with its obnoxious guttural squealing.
Sonic, off the cuff: "Good word choice. Sounds like you're writing to publish this. You better not."
I practically leaped over Zooey to shut it off. Ugh, time to get everything packed once more, I thought, trying to keep my grumpiness to myself. I decided to speed through the packing process and it took me five minutes to pack up and get fully dressed. I returned to find Zooey still asleep, having never woken up.
I personally hated to wake Zooey up, so I had to make it as painless as possible. I sat down on the side of the bed and started gently rubbing her shoulders to wake her up. She rolled over, looked at me, and smiled. (If I could cut back to any moment on our vacation, it would be now. That broke my heart and I almost cried.)
Zooey tears up, to which Tails runs a hand through her quills. Zooey gives Tails a short kiss on the forehead as Sonic and Amy watch.
I immediately gave her the warning. "We got fifteen minutes and then we're out of here. I'd recommend you get up now."
"Aww…" Zooey whimpered. That was so sad.
I started stroking my fingers through the fur on her shoulders just enough for the slight ticklish sensations to hit. Just as I intended, she sat up immediately. Well, she was up now. She sighed, indicating how tired she was. I nearly felt bad for waking her up.
Tails, teasing: "Almost."
I made the bed and tidied the room while she packed her items and redressed. We were the first ones to leave the cruise ship, and naturally the first ones to call over a taxi.
I don't remember much of that taxi ride, but I remember arriving at the hotel at a solid 01:45. Apparently I had called ahead and had our room keys ready to go by the time we got there. We were conveniently located on the eleventh floor. After a moderately uninteresting elevator ride, I turned the key to home for the next few days. Okay, average size, I thought to myself. I rolled my luggage off to the side and just about leaped onto the first bed. Wasting no time, I immediately played out the next few days in my head, taking into account the true reason I was here. I had to visit Zooey's parents, had to stealthily locate the hedgehogs,
Amy, vindictive: "How did that work out?" Tails, flustered: "Not too good!"
Had to find a bank or ATM, and had to see exactly what All The Best had to offer. I was having severe anxiety, until I was woken up by a strange whistling. Who in their right mind is calling in a cat at this hour? But then I realized; she was whistling at me. I'd blacked out and fallen asleep. "Could you snore a little quieter?" She teased.
Sonic, instigating: "Light on the teasing, Zooey! You know he doesn't like it." Tails puts an arm around Zooey: "She can't control herself." Zooey growls at Tails.
At least I'd found a girl who spoke her mind. I rolled over to see her staring at me and leaning against the wall in that sassy pose. ~And hot too~ She looks absolutely stunning in those pink silk pyjamas. Zooey is everything I could possibly wish for.
Tails blushes extensively.
Zooey: "Is that… what you really think?"
Tails: "Of course, sweetie!" The foxes share a short kiss.
Sonic: "Dude, keep the lovey-dovey stuff turned down while we're here, alright?" Tails, angry: "Clearly we're more intense than you are, you puritan. I'm being nice
letting you read this, you know. Don't mess with me."
That thought kept on my mind as I brushed my teeth once again and redressed into my flannel pyjamas. I slid into bed right next to Zooey, who just smiled back. We kissed each other good night. "Yokunemuri, pureshasu." I whispered to Zooey. "Yokunemuri, honmeiyu." She whispered back.
{PM: Yoku nemuri. よく眠り. Japanese for "sleep well." - Pureshasu. プレシャス. Japanese ateji for "Precious." - Honmeiyu. Combines honmei 本命 "Favorite" with eiyuu 英雄 "Hero." English equivalent of "My favorite hero." Both Japanese}
And… BOOM! 10:00. We had already slept half the day away, but I didn't mind. Zooey was fully dressed on the balcony, calling someone. I got dressed just as she finished the call, and within seconds we were heading out the door. As we were walking to the car rental place, we were almost hit head-on by some reckless dude who nearly drove on the sidewalk. Other than a near death experience, we were totally fine on our long walk to the dealership.
Sonic's voice fails.
Tails, concerned: "Sonic, are you alright?"
Amy rubs Sonic's back to comfort him.
After a few seconds, Sonic spoke up. "That was when I first saw you. I was driving that car. I just wanted to scare you away. Ever since that moment, I did everything in my power to ruin your outing. I won't even call it a vacation."
Zooey, screaming: "You could have killed us!"
Amy: "Not possible. Sonic is a skilled driver."
Sonic: "Should I continue?" Both foxes nodded in agreement.
Our first destination by car was to the Vixen house. I hadn't realized that I had completely skipped breakfast. I always need to keep moving because otherwise I'm too slow.
The door was answered by a very excited looking Dahlia and Antonio, her parents. It was always a great sight to see them all so happy. I will never forget what Antonio said to me. Come on in, son. That alleviated all the nerves I had about seeing them again, considering how my relationship with their daughter was getting serious. We briefly discussed the reason we came there and what we intended to do. Once we were all seated, I opened, "I'm not going to waste any time telling you why we're here. I'm pretty sure you're familiar with who our friends are. As fate would have it, Sonic and Amy are officially in a relationship. Zooey and I are here to, well… start them off. It's an unusual effort on our part, but one we're taking."
Amy: "And you took it very well, too." Sonic secretly winked at Tails.
I was surprised to see that Antonio was not. "Zooey has filled us in on every possible detail already. And by the way, I already know the true reason you're here. You can't lie to me, son. But tell me now, what do you intend to do?"
"Well, I intend to continue my relationship with her for a while, and as we get older, consider a life together."
Now it was Dahlia's turn. "That's all very well, but I think my husband meant what you intend to do now that you've chased them here."
That was humiliating.
Sonic, taunting: "Yeah Tails, context!"
"Oh, now that you mention it, which room are they staying in?"
"I couldn't miss it. They are in room 1111."
I nearly had an aneurysm at what she told me. Zooey and I were staying in room 1145. If we had arrived at our rooms at the same time, they would have recognized us immediately.
Sonic, teasing again. "Too late, buddy. You didn't seem to get scared off either. Staying with us was completely your fault. You had the signs."
Tails, in response: "How was I to know you were the offensively terrible driver?"
Sonic grunts in defeat and continues reading.
"Okay, we're down the hall from that. Is it possible to get them a promotion?"
"We've got a few empty suites. Do you want me to move them as far away as possible?"
"Yes, and I'll pay for it myself."
Amy smiles appreciatively at Tails.
Tails: "I just wanted to keep you away."
Amy's appreciative smile disappears immediately.
"You can do that when I will be there later tonight. But for now, why don't you stay a while? What have you been up to all this time?"
Zooey took her turn. "We haven't moved an inch! We're still the guardians of the people and I don't ever intend to change that."
I cut in. "We dream large and live larger. We've scrapped a lot of metal."
Zooey looked at her locket. "And I still have this." She opened her locket and showed it to her parents. I didn't expect that Antonio would take too kindly to the front picture of Zooey and I kissing, but he seemed okay with it. As usual, there were the pictures of her with her family. It made me miss my own family even more. Perhaps I'll see them someday.
I don't remember much else of what we discussed (small talk), but we left their house at 11:30. By this point, I was famished. "What's for lunch?" I asked Zooey.
"I don't know. Shall we take this for a ride and see what's around?" She responded, by unlocking the car.
Oh boy, was I looking forward to this. I had the time of my life, leaning out the window, speeding down the freeway, and finally we decided to stop for lunch.
Once we had returned to the hotel, the door to room 1111 was wide open. Apparently, they had been told they won a free upgrade. I took this time to install tracking on Amy's communicator which was conveniently lying around, and dash back to our room.
Amy: "That was your first mistake."
Sonic: "One of many."
There we camped out until we heard the last of Sonic and Amy moving all their items. What had our trip come to? Once they had left, I took Zooey to the beach, where we had an absolute blast.
The first hour consisted of random swimming and splashing in the ocean. Later, we got tired and played volleyball until sunset. After the sun went down, when most people had left, we had our special "Nightswimming" dance, which I really enjoyed. At the end, we kissed for only a few short seconds, but I loved every second of it.
Sonic, speaking without pausing: "Of course you did."
We then dried our fur out completely and I drove us back to the hotel. Once we had each showered, we dressed nicely for dinner in the hotel lobby. We were, to say the least, comically overdressed. I looked like a businessman. Better to be well dressed than informal. I ordered their steak and had to get a box once it arrived. I hated to ruin a perfectly good steak by saving half of it, but that was massive. Zooey got something in French that looked delicious. Once we were finished and had paid, I checked my communicator to locate the hedgehogs.
Sonic: "Bad idea, buddy!"
It said that Sonic was sitting across from me, but that was Zooey. I checked to make sure her communicator wasn't malfunctioning. (And to ensure she didn't steal Sonic's one) That aged poorly. I followed my tracker up to floor 11 to locate Amy, until I realized that I was tracking myself. Just not possible, I thought. We didn't have the wrong communicators. The strangest thing was, Zooey's communicator was missing when we returned. I asked for the hotel's lost and found area, but it wasn't there either. There was no tracker for Zooey's communicator, so we just gave in and assumed it was lost forever. I looked over the table and noticed that our hotel keycard was missing. At least there were 3 of them. We had 2 more.
Amy: "I saw immediately that I had a tracker on my communicator. Sonic searched his and found one as well. You guys didn't take yours to the beach, so we sneaked into your room and put the trackers on your communicators. We were now following Tails."
Tails, inquisitive: "How did you get into our room?"
Sonic: "I stole the missing keycard and returned it when we left."
Zooey, annoyed: "Are we filming a comedy? What's with all these petty tricks?"
Tails, speaking quickly: "It's not a prank war."
Sonic: "Good question. You'll learn more soon, I think."
And to top it all, when we arrived back in our room (it was now very dark), the lights wouldn't activate. This was exactly what we didn't need. I opened the access door (although not authorized) and looked at our room's breaker. As I had expected, the largest wire had been fraying and had split apart. I'll just summarize the rest - I'm getting tired. We found a 24 hour store nearby and got some electrical tape to fix it. By the time we had our lights on, it was past 22:00. I once again brushed my teeth and went to bed. Zooey did the same soon after, and the day was finally over.
…Until 03:00. I was suddenly woken up by what I think was a bird hitting the window. That was an unpleasant jumpscare in the middle of the night. I swear I could feel Zooey holding onto me tighter that night. "Hold me tighter." She whispered over to me. Of course I complied. It didn't matter how long we slept in.
Amy: "Aww, that's so cute!"
Tails: "Good for you, I guess?"
But we did get up at 09:00 that morning, making slight improvements. Our first task was determining what the hedgehogs were doing today. After a long, spirited debate with Zooey over why we came here, we came to a conclusion. (I defended my point that we were here to watch over our friends.
Sonic: "Haha! Nope."
However, she convinced me to take her on a real date once they left. We had given ourselves the rest of the day after they left.)
Amy, impressed. "Wow, Zooey! You know how to get the best out of a man!"
Zooey, embarrassed. "Might not want to say that in front of him."
Tails: "I don't mind! I'm off this week and my finances are good. You should enjoy yourself. I know I will."
This didn't take long. We were out on the balcony when they left, Sonic with a set of clubs over his shoulders. (Since when did he play golf?) I knew Zooey and I could pretty well. I knew we could rent clubs when we got there, so Zooey and I got dressed immediately. I grabbed the keys to the rental car, and we took off. Of course, not before stopping at a gas station and getting some delicious, yet questionable looking sandwiches. I needed to give our friends some time, and us some distance.
When we arrived at the hotel's nearby golf course, I was pleased to see that very few cars were there, meaning it wasn't busy, especially at 10:00. We didn't even have to book a time. Sonic and Amy had already gotten on the course a half hour before, so once we applied sunblock and rented a set of clubs each, we were off. We were both performing pretty well, and Zooey and I got to spend some quality time together, albeit dodging the occasional golf ball in our direction.
Sonic, shyly: "Yeah… about that thing. About ruining your vacation. We were hitting those backwards intentionally, to scare you off. You still didn't listen."
We were on the back half of the course by the time we caught up to our friends. We kept our distance until we saw them on hole 14, the farthest hole from the club. It's like they were lingering there, they wouldn't shut up and move on. Suddenly, they embraced each other and began kissing passionately. At last, the entire reason I came here was paying off.
Sonic snaps his fingers. "I knew it. I absolutely knew it."
Tails, unimpressed: "The real reason we came there."
Zooey and I stared at them, and back at the other, in absolute silence. This was getting intense. After a solid minute, our new couple broke apart and moved on. We continued for the next three holes normally, with no interruptions.
At the beginning of the last hole, though, I saw something interesting again. They began talking, Amy grabbed Sonic's hand, he grabbed hers, they embraced and kissed again. Sonic finally had a romantic experience.
Amy: "You do realize we did that just for you, right?"
Tails and Zooey, both very concerned. "You don't love each other?"
Sonic: "Well, yes we do. That one was staged. I wanted to reward your persistence."
I was very pleased to see this. This one was shorter than the first, and we completed the final hole after them. We watched from a moderate distance as they drove away from the course.
At this point, my heart was pounding excitedly. I used the lowest of their lows to bring Sonic and Amy together. I really was a matchmaker as Zooey said, but that thought was far too embarrassing to keep for long. Once we had returned our clubs, we rented rackets for the nicely located tennis courts. We reapplied sunblock and our match started.
I began enjoying myself for once, despite the excessive sweating I was doing. We were no longer concerned about our friends, and got ourselves a few more hours of quality time spent together. However, this quality time consisted of wicked insults and desperation. It was almost childish, but here we were, having a good time. I regret nothing.
After over an hour had gone by, we decided to call it a day when I won 50-38. Zooey said she wasn't mad she lost, but I could see it in her face. We walked back to the hotel, eager to get some cold water. I managed to drink an entire liter of water in one attempt.
Sonic, sarcastically: "Good for you."
Something alarming happened when we got back to our room. I had barely taken my shirt off to get in the shower, and I noticed my arms and neck were bronzed. Had I really been in the direct sun that long?
Sonic: "On the topic of ruining your vacation, buddy. You weren't out there too long. I replaced your sunblock with dry skin lotion."
Zooey: "You sent us out to burn?"
Sonic: "I wish I could say I was sorry."
Tails, yelling at Sonic: "What's wrong with you?"
Sonic, defensively: "I won't be lectured by my stalker!"
Tails, defeated. "Just keep reading. You're getting on my nerves."
Sonic: "Don't disrespect me, boy."
I called Zooey in, and her shoulders and arms were looking a bit copper as well. (Of course, I sent her out before showering.)
Amy, quickly speaking: "Good, you should."
When we were both finished, we lounged in the room for about an hour watching TV and drifting in and out of sleeping. By about 17:00, we made a decision to leave for South Side Diner, which was apparently the highest rated diner nearby. I did start worrying about how much money I was spending, but that went away. Zooey had a brand new dress out, but I had only brought one suit, so I wore that one again. It wasn't like anyone would notice.
Just driving there was a blast. We were only on the highway for about 10 minutes, but Zooey had the time of her life. For a few seconds, she leaned so far out the window I was afraid she would fall off. But besides that, the diner was everything I dreamed it would be. We immediately were seated on the terrace, with a grand view of half the city. The diner was located on the seventh floor of the building.
"Stunning view, isn't it?" She asked me.
"Absolutely!" I replied, looking into her eyes.
"No, I was talking about…" It suddenly hit her. She blushed a bright pink. (I don't know why we do that to each other.)
Zooey: "It's fun. Come on, Tailsy, admit it. You like it just as much as I do."
Tails: "I won't deny that, but you do seem to tease me a lot."
Sonic continued reading to avoid embarrassing Tails.
"Are we introducing flattery now?" She questioned back, unable to hide how she was blushing. She's cute… and hot. Words fail me.
Sonic, teasing: "Quite a rash of compliments, buddy. Wanna put a voice behind them? Or will you leave it unspoken?"
Tails, embarrassed: "Well, she is cute and hot. I would ask you to back me up here, but… *looks over at Amy* you've got a reason to not do that. But Zooey, you are hot though. And kinda cute, too."
Zooey: "Don't. Save it for later." She winked at Tails, causing him to blush.
That began a series of suave comments between us personally. I checked to make sure no one picked up on this. We continued our flirtatious exchange until our waiter arrived. By that point, we both made our full order. Both of us got the same pasta dish with chicken and diced tomatoes, with a soda on the side. It seemed like a matter of seconds until the time our food arrived.
The food wasn't much to write about. The actual date was quite the opposite. Once we had fully eaten and paid, we enjoyed the beginning of sunset together. (It was 18:10) We watched off the balcony as the world came and went. I was on top of the world; I could have it all. I had Zooey by my side, even though I stayed at Sonic's side.
Amy: "That's strangely… charming."
Speak of the devil and he shall appear. Sonic, in full tuxedo, stepped out of the immoderately flashy limo, from the driver's side.
Sonic: "Hey, I'm not the devil!"
Tails: "It's just an expression."
I stared for a second, wondering how he was able to drive a limo, and how much it cost to do that. In a high show of gallantry, he walked around and opened the door for Amy, wearing one of the most elegant dresses I had ever seen. I started doubting my own manliness when I saw that. He tossed the keys to the valet and they walked into the building.
Sonic: "Hahaha! When you get to my age, you'll realize there's no such thing as a real man. It's all in your mind."
I grabbed Zooey's arm. "They're here. It's time to go. We need to take the stairs." That was precisely what we did. It took us seven flights of stairs to get to the ground floor, but we also didn't want to be seen by our friends. Once we got down, I opened the door for Zooey… in our very impressive rented SUV.
Zooey: "It's the thought that counts." She smiles at Tails.
Back to the hotel; this was a scene I could get used to. I was greeted by Zooey's mother, who looked overjoyed to see us. She informed us that our friends were "getting along well." I didn't know what this meant, but I trusted she did. That was quite a flashback to our rather pathetic reason for being here in the first place.
Sonic: "Pathetic. Could have used a stronger word."
Amy: "Try deplorable, shameful, or miserable."
Tails, rudely: "Of course poetry girl has the best words."
Sonic: "Watch your mouth, buddy. I won't have her insulted like that."
Tails: "Try the virtues of silence, for once. Actually, keep reading."
We got back to our room and redressed into our civilian clothes. After watching TV for over an hour, I thought of something so backwards, yet so intriguing. According to the hotel's policy, anyone who purchases a room is given an access card. We decided to use our free time to regrettably visit their empty room, since I had paid for it. We walked over to the Champions' Suite, swiped our card, and entered.
Amy: "So you were in there for a while."
Tails: "How did you know that?"
Sonic continued reading before Amy could answer.
It seemed they had gotten themselves decently set up in there. Sonic actually had his items in order. I guess he dropped his bachelor's tendencies and decided tidiness is better. I knew that boy would learn.
Sonic, raging. "Who are you calling that boy? You're fifteen! I'm twenty two!"
Tails, leaning over to Zooey, but speaking loud enough for everyone to hear. "Anger signals the onset of dementia. He's not getting any younger, you know."
Sonic, red with rage: "You're gonna pay for that, grandson! See me after."
Tails: "If your old bones can handle it."
Sonic shakes his head in disappointment.
He had his suits and she had her dresses hung up in the closet. They had take-out food in the fridge and coffee in the dispenser. I could convince myself they lived here. They had their golf bags set up across the second bed. (It was apparent only one bed was in use.)
Sonic, aggressive: "Okay, quite an insightful observation."
Zooey, implicative: "Your defensiveness tells me something. Care to explain more?"
Sonic, hesitant: "That won't be necessary."
Tails and Zooey both look to Amy, but she ignores them.
I was very pleased to know that Amy had finally calmed down a little and entered a steady relationship. Sonic, well, had done about the same. Subtract the calmness; his ego still needs work.
Sonic raises a fist at Tails.
We were just about to leave when I heard a scratching on the door. I had just enough time to motion Zooey to get under the bed before they walked in. The door was barely shut and locked when we heard sudden bangs against the wall and snickering. Those snickers turned to gratifying laughter and eventually moans of pleasure indicating they had been kissing. I felt as if enduring this was a very fitting punishment for having spied on them.
Amy: "We also did that one just for you. Also, great vocabulary. You're not actually going to publish this, are you?"
Zooey, ignoring the question: "How did you know we were there?"
Sonic: "Technoboy lended us a few trackers to use."
Tails and Zooey both grimace at Sonic.
Sonic, innocently: "Was that too offensive? My bad."
Their high-intensity kissing session lasted for only a few minutes, then they finally split ways. Oh, the joys of not having to go through that anymore. Sonic took his shirt off, and literally hopped into bed. "I'm going straight to bed, Ames. Good night." He yelled across the room, which I thought was rather rude.
I woke up to some nearly imperceptible whispering.
"Hey Ames, you hear that? I hear someone snoring."
"Yes, I do. Where's it coming from?"
"It's coming from this room. I don't hear it from the door."
Sonic: "I don't remember this."
Tails: "I don't think you should."
I started oversweating within seconds. They were referring to me. I raised my head just slightly so I could listen better.
"It just stopped. Is someone in here?"
Zooey woke up and rolled into me. I sat up really quickly, which was a bad idea. I banged my head really hard against the metal frame of the bed.
Sonic and Amy both audibly gasped.
"Someone's under there." Amy whispered.
Sonic didn't seem scared. "Alright," He sighed. "Time to deal with this myself."
His hand slid under the bed. He grabbed my ankle, dragged me across the carpet, and picked me up, one hand on my ankle.
"There's the little boy." He taunted. "Wanted to check in on us, bud?"
Sonic, concerned: "This didn't happen."
Tails: "Just continue reading."
I couldn't speak. I grabbed Sonic's arm, but I couldn't get out of his grip.
"You can speak up all you want." He grabbed my throat and slammed my head against the wall. "Only if you can."
I looked my best friend in the eye. He looked so… vengeful. I began tearing up, but he only smirked back. I entirely lost control of my emotions and bawled my eyes out. It hurt just to breathe, he was gripping me so tight. Where was Amy in all of this?
"You're crying, good." Sonic remarked. "You should feel sorry for this."
I looked over to my left to see Zooey throw one of Amy's heels at Sonic. He ducked just in time to dodge it, and the sharp end stuck in the wall.
"A great assassination, you rascal." He jeered, dropping me on the floor where I was.
"I won't have him treated like this!" She yelled, throwing the other. She missed entirely.
"And YOU…" Sonic growled. "And you! You meddler!" Sonic began quickly walking in her direction, balling his hands into fists.
I was not going to sit back and watch this happen. I ran behind him and tried to trip him. Sonic grabbed my leg and slammed my back on the floor. I cried even harder.
Amy entered the room. She took one look at Zooey and got mad. "YOU!" She snarled. "I'm gonna kick you out of here one way or another!"
"There's no need for that." Zooey said very calmly. She came over to me, picked me up, and gave me a hug. "It's all over."
Sonic began speaking. "You know, we don't" He stopped speaking. Both of them stared in shock as Zooey took out her pocket knife.
Then, chaos unfolded. Sonic grabbed the knife, kicked it under the bed, and knocked down Zooey in one punch.
Sonic: "Tails, what are you writing down?"
Tails, annoyed: "Keep reading. You're almost there."
"Are you done yet?" Sonic panted, a little exhausted himself.
Without response, I reached under the bed for the knife.
"No!" Sonic yelled, dragging me back out. ""You!" He drove his knee into my back. "Don't!" He pulled my head and legs up, bending my back unnaturally. I cried like I never had before. He let me go after about 5 seconds, but it felt like minutes. It hurt so bad.
I couldn't get up. Zooey came over to me and picked me up. I felt like such a baby, but it felt so nice to be loved. I cried onto her shoulder.
"Man, I'm enjoying this much more than I should." Sonic taunted from behind, but I heard it from above. "Hey Ames, you up?" It still came from above.
He was talking in real time. All the stress from this odd trip got to me. I woke up from that nightmare in a cold sweat.
Sonic, relieved. "Okay, so it was just a nightmare. If only you had told me about that I could have been so much nicer to you."
Tails: "We had no idea that you knew we were here."
I should have known my best friend would never betray us that badly. I was also taught a lesson about not enjoying watching him suffer. It didn't feel good when that happened to us.
"Yeah, I'm up." Amy yawned.
"If we're gonna get there when it opens, we gotta leave in 15. Think we can make it?"
"I bet we can!"
Where was there? I thought to myself. And what time was it?
"Well you can go and get changed, and I'll roll out over here. Don't keep me waiting."
"I won't! Hope you aren't scared of heights!"
Then, silence for a couple of minutes, until I heard a door open.
"I've just got 2 more things then I'm ready to go. Ready to head out?" Amy asked.
"I just realized. We match!"
"Oh yeah! You have blue and I have peach."
"Looks good on you. Anyway, I've been ready to go."
"No, you haven't, Sonic. You just didn't think of as many other things as I did. You got sunblock? Did you bring extra water? Did you even print out our tickets? Where's your wallet? Where are the car keys? How are…"
Zooey, annoyed: "At least I don't do that to Tails."
Amy: "Are you calling me a nag?"
Tails: "What she means is you worry too much."
Amy: "That's kinda true. I can't deny that."
"I get the point, Ames."
"Is something wrong? Why do you keep staring?"
"You're smokin' hot is all. You ready to get out?"
Tails, instigating: "Real smooth, man. Real smooth."
Sonic, taunting in response. "Yeah, and it sounds better in a real man's voice, too."
Tails: "Oh come on, that's not even true."
Zooey: "Your voice is still up there, Tailsy. I think he's right."
Sonic, whispering to Amy: "Incendier."
{PM: "Incendier." French for "Burn."}
He grabbed the keys. "Dream, here we come!" That's all I needed to know. Now I knew they were going to Dream Amusement Park. I got hit in the face with a pile of dirty laundry that Sonic kicked under the bed. That was absolutely nasty.
Amy: "Sonic, you have something to admit here."
Sonic: "What? Do I?"
Tails, outraged: "You did that on purpose? What's wrong with you?"
Sonic: "I wanted to punish you a little."
Tails: "You disgusting freak."
Once both of them had left the room, we watched to ensure that they left the hotel. Then, we also left and returned to our room, which unfortunately had not seen any use recently. Zooey and I redressed as to not wear anything dusty.
Once I had printed out our tickets, we were about ready to leave. I reached for my communicator, but it wasn't there. It just didn't seem possible. Could it have been stolen? I wondered. Zooey and I could find no explanation for this. All I wanted to do was call Sonic, but I couldn't have him know I was here.
Sonic, warmly: "You could have called. I don't want you feeling lonely."
Tails: "While that is nice, I would have blown my cover. There was no choice."
Sonic got up. "You know what? Come here."
He hugs Tails, who just stood up.
Sonic: "If you ever need someone, buddy, I'm here. Are you… crying?"
Tails sniffles. "I just can't believe it all. What was I thinking?"
Sonic: "Blinded by ambition. You'll be okay."
Amy and Zooey look at each other and seem to communicate something.
They both return to their seats.
Even if we knew where they were or not, we were still going to Dream Amusement Park. Once we made sure we had everything necessary, (Amy had given us a good list)
Sonic, continuously speaking: "No kidding."
We left. It was her turn to drive. It took us about 30 minutes on the highway to get there. I liked having the wind in my face, but the risk of falling onto the highway was too much, so I leaned back in the car. Needless to say, we had a blast.
Getting into the park was stressful. We had to turn in our bags, get them inspected, hand over our tickets, go through metal detectors, and probably more. We nearly forgot to put on sunblock… nearly.
Sonic, loudly: "Completely useless!"
Tails: "Well how was I supposed to know? You don't often send your friends to burn in the sun, do you?"
Amy: "He wasn't playing nice."
Finally, we made it through. The first thing I noticed was how tall some of the rides were. Zooey couldn't help but stare up. I squeezed her side while she wasn't looking. She quivered in shock for a second.
"Gotcha." I teased. "Hope you aren't scared of heights!"
Amy: "That is absolutely appalling. You're a genius and all, but clearly you have off days."
Zooey: "Are you calling him stupid?"
Amy: "I'm trying to say that wasn't his brightest decision."
"That was mean. I got a park map from the entrance. How about you pick the first one?"
"I like that one." I pointed to the tallest one, a green Ո. How do we get to it?"
"It's called Death Bound. It's the tallest one here. I'm ready for it! You?"
"Better believe it! I can fly, so I'm not scared at all."
"Alright, let's get on it."
That began our very long wait in line. It took us at least a half hour to get onto the ride.
But at last, we made it on. It was then that I realized that we were riding on the inside of the Ո and not the outside.
"Zooey, we're inside the U, not outside. This thing is going upside down."
"Aww, you poor puppy. Want me to hold your hand?"
"Yes." I sighed. That was embarrassing, but it helped alleviate my fears. For being able to fly, I'm incredibly scared of heights.
When the speedy ride was over, I felt like such a coward for being scared. Zooey took out the map, considering how we were not riding that again, due to the lines.
"Any in particular you would like, sweetie?" I offered.
"You can pick any one you're not scared of."
If she didn't stop teasing, she was gonna get it.
Amy, outraged: "Tails, you better watch yourself!"
Tails: "Don't get so flustered, will you? If you knew what I said, you would know."
Zooey: "That's how logic works, sweetie. And Amy, don't worry about us so much. The same goes for you too, Sonic."
"How about Storm Bringer?" I pointed to it on the map. "It's a 101 meter drop." I pointed to it in real life. "Look at it! It's about to drop now!" I leaned over to Zooey as it dropped.
She apparently misinterpreted that gesture. She pulled me in and kissed me on the head. "Don't worry. I'll be right beside you. Oh, was that too public? You look so embarrassed."
Sonic: "I'm getting embarrassed just reading this."
I touched my face to make sure I wasn't blushing, which I was. "I can't be scared! Ever since you drove us here on the highway, nothing else has really come close." I shot back.
We started walking toward the tower. "Are you calling me a bad driver?" Zooey asked.
"You don't seem to understand the difference between teasing and being rude."
"Do you speak for any other purpose?"
"If you're going to tease me like you do, you have to expect some back."
In place of a response, she smiled sweetly back at me.
Amy: "Ooh, okay. A little teasing going on here."
Zooey: "Technoboy just loves it."
Tails groans in disappointment.
When we got on the ride, Zooey looked nervous. I grabbed her side, and she flinched again. She reached out, possibly in aggression, but I grabbed her hand and pulled her over to the seats. She just grunted and pouted at me. I knew I was in trouble when we returned to our room. Why do we enjoy being so cruel to each other?
Sonic, intrusive: "Puhuhu… How much trouble did you get into, Tails?"
Tails: "Nothing. And it also wasn't your business to begin with."
About halfway up the tower, I whispered over to Zooey. "Getting nervous?"
She whispered back. "Absolutely not. Hey, I can see Amy from here!"
"No!" I gasped in shock. I looked down, but I couldn't distinguish anyone.
"Tehehe… who's nervous now?" She squeaked.
Amy: "You guys are messed up! This isn't healthy!"
Tails, defensive: "How are you supposed to know what a healthy relationship looks like? You just entered a relationship… what? Two months ago? And we practically set you up! Stop being so ungrateful."
Zooey cuddles up to Tails and hugs him. "Calm down, it's okay."
She held my hand again as we reached the top. I wanted to jump out and fly down. Having her there meant a lot to me. She teases a ton, but is very supportive. I love her.
Zooey: "Aww, I love you too!" She kisses Tails on the lips.
Tails, insulting the hedgehogs: "Not in front of the puritans, will you?"
Sonic, offended: "Hey, that's not fair! But a quick witted insult at minimum."
Amy growls at Tails.
Tails: "You wanna see that again?"
Sonic: "I wouldn't mind if you do."
Tails stands up, grabs Zooey under her arms, picks her up, and kisses her hard on the lips. She throws her arms around his neck and returns the kiss. He puts one arm around her shoulders and the other around her waist. They continue for a few seconds, and break off.
Sonic, rudely: "Ten out of ten."
Tails, to Zooey: "Felt like a ten."
Zooey blushes and they return to their seats.
The drop was exhilarating. It left me very dizzy when we got off the ride. Now that the first few rides were over, it was time to consider lunch. It was already past noon by this time, since the park was near its capacity. We weren't leaving any time soon. We ducked into Jeff's Burgers, which was the only shaded spot nearby. I, of course, got their recommended burger. (I was only here once) Zooey got a tuna salad. Who would have thought a burger place would serve that? We both got a small (still large) soda with it. Under the shade, we noticed we were both slightly burned. Naturally, we both reapplied sunblock and were back on the road by 12:30.
Sonic: "Still no. I thought by this point you would have realized."
Zooey: "At this time we had no idea that you knew where we were."
We had already accepted that we wouldn't get too many rides in, but the ones we did get on would be worth it. Zooey selected our next stop, the Raging Storm. This one just looked a mess. It was a series of inversions and loops with multiple tunnels. I got nervous looking over the fence at it. Zooey gently grabbed my hand and pulled me in line. I couldn't resist.
When we got on, we were strapped in to the boards (not even seats) in 3 different places, standing up. I couldn't even hold Zooey's hand. It was worse than airport security. The boards lifted up, so now we were horizontal, at the mercy of 3 restraints. The ride took off at a rapid rate, and after I blinked, we were already going through multiple inversions. I held onto the handles extra tight as we entered the double loop. We went through an underground tunnel into a half inverted loop.
"Having fun yet?" Zooey teased.
"That's what I came here for!" I shouted back.
The rest of the ride was just an inverted drop through an underground tunnel to gain momentum for a final loop, before returning to the station.
"Whew! That was a blast!" I yelled over at Zooey.
"And you didn't even have to hold my hand! Look at you!"
Amy, to Tails: "And you're telling me I don't know when you guys are tearing each other down?"
Tails, ranting: "You would have no idea about any of this if I didn't let Sonic read my journal. You wouldn't even know about the journal if you weren't so clumsy."
Amy: "That's rude!"
Tails, still speaking. "So unless you want me to tell Sonic to stop, which I wouldn't mind, you can keep your opinions to yourself."
Amy gasps and everyone stares at Tails.
Zooey: "Careful, Tails. You're being extremely offensive."
"Why… you!" I raged, trying to get out of the restraints. The restraints finally had a practical use.
"Have I embarrassed you past what you can handle? You're blushing pretty hard."
Zooey: "You really were blushing. You should have seen your face. It was too cute."
Tails: "Don't call me cute!"
I gave up. Zooey grabbed her bag once we got off the ride.
"You're quite a thrill seeker." I commended.
"I've got it in me. Do you?"
"Not to your level!"
Zooey took out the map once again. "I wanna get on Electro Trigger. Can you take it?"
"If you can take it. I'll go anywhere with you. It's my job to be there for you."
Zooey looked charmed. "Aww, you're so sweet!" She kissed my cheek. Not the reaction I was hoping for, but I loved it.
I immediately doubted my ability to stay on once I saw what Electro Trigger was. It was horn shaped, like a U, but the ends of it went straight up and spiraled. Our park map said it was 54 meters tall. I was already there. I had to do it.
Without hesitation, Zooey and I queued in line, not knowing we were in for a 45 minute wait. Every minute of the wait was worth it. The ride started out slow, but over the next minute, we were reaching the top. I grabbed Zooey's hand again. She looked over at me and smiled cutely. Does she think I'm a scared little boy or something?
Sonic: "It's entirely possible."
Tails: "I'm fifteen now in case you haven't noticed. I'm not that young."
Amy: "Well, be young while you can."
We were between the two prongs, reaching increasingly higher every time. Eventually, the ride slowed down and came to a conclusion. I knew it would.
It was 14:30 by the time we got off. I could tell Zooey was ready to leave. "Wearing down, sweetie?" I asked.
"Yeah, I reckon I can go for one more. Wanna pick the last one?"
"Hmmm… The fastest one here. Or, if you can take it, we can get on the slingshot ride. You awake enough to get on Whip Shot?"
Amy: "Oh yeah, that one was good. I loved it."
Tails, inquisitive: "But did Sonic like it though? That's the real question."
Sonic: "Are you kidding me? That's the best one at the entire park!"
Zooey, teasing: "So you weren't scared. Impressive."
Tails blushes in embarrassment.
"Am I? I've been staring at that one all day! Let's do it."
It cost an extra 10 pounds, but we got in line. We would have had to wait, except there were only 6 people in front of us. We were seated on the ride in 10 minutes. This time, Zooey grabbed my hand, instead of the other way around. "You scared?" I taunted.
"No. I just noticed how scared you were and saw that you couldn't bring yourself to reach out to me again. I just closed the gap for you."
Amy: "Aww, that's so sweet!"
Zooey: "I tried on that one."
"You're too nice."
Our capsule was set back. "You ready, Tailsy?"
"Sure am, sweetie!"
"Do you wanna," She touched her lips flirtatiously. "Kiss me at the top?"
I blushed really hard then. "I'll take that as a yes." She judged.
Amy and Zooey make eye contact from across the room.
The cable at the bottom was let go. We accelerated nose-up into the sun at an outrageous speed. Once we had squeezed our arms out of the restraints, which was wildly unsafe, Zooey and I both leaned in and we let the whole world have it. We had never kissed harder in our lives. (That was due to gravity.) I had my eyes open half the time. We continued passionately kissing until we felt the ride get more balanced. Once we both pulled away, there was a string connecting our mouths, which I severed with my own hand. (Also due to gravity)
Amy, astonished: "I had no idea you two were so intense!"
Tails: "Well, you see, we have a more meaningful relationship than you do. We've been together for years. You haven't. Perhaps you two will get there. And I can't wait to see it if you do."
Sonic, diverting attention: "I cut you off midsentence."
I guess that gesture made her uncomfortable, which was revealed when she blushed pink. Our capsule stabilized and the cable pulled it back to the ground. We were both unbalanced as we began walking again.
"Ay, y'all!" An older wolf at the photo booth yelled at us. "Get over here!" We were intrigued, so we did. "Y'all, We do a promotion where we give free pictures to the funniest people on this ride, say if they pass out or somethin'. But this - this is beyond my expectations. This is some of the best pictures this ride has ever seen."
His English was poor, but he was nice. He handed us 3 pictures of Zooey and I. One was of Zooey looking flirty and me blushing. The second was us kissing at the top. The third was us disengaging and leaving a trail of saliva.
Tails, to Zooey: "I still have those pictures."
Sonic, intrusive: "And can we see them?"
Amy stares at Sonic in shock.
Zooey: "What's with you being so invasive? How much do you care?"
Sonic: "I just wanna know what's up with my little buddy."
Tails returns with the mentioned photos.
Sonic: "Yeah, buddy! You hit it big!"
Zooey and Amy speaking at the same time: "I'm right here."
Tails speaking privately to Sonic. "Tone it down a little."
Sonic, in response: "Gotcha."
Tails takes the photos back, and Sonic continues reading.
This was embarrassing just to look at. I put them discreetly in my pocket as we were leaving the park.
We still had a fun ride home. It was only 30 minutes, but I certainly did not take it easy down the highway. We returned to our hotel room, completely exhausted. I kicked my shoes off, set the images aside, and hopped into bed. Completely burned too. I had a bronze and pink shade to my orange and white fur, and Zooey's fur was completely gold.
Sonic: "I'm so sorry, little buddy. I didn't mean for you to burn up so bad."
Tails: "A small price to pay."
How long had we been out there? It was only 15:45. That was just unacceptable. I went to the small shop in the hotel and bought some gel to relieve the burns. That helped.
Amy, glaring at Sonic: "Good."
When I returned, Zooey was already napping. I quietly entered the bathroom and applied the gel to my burned fur. I slid into bed beside Zooey. I made sure to look at the clock before sleeping, and it was 16:00. We were woken a half hour later by knocks on our door. I feared it was Sonic. When I opened the door, no one was there. It was probably a little kid who knocked and ran.
"Who is it?" Zooey yelled, very tired.
"No one. I think someone knocked and ran."
Sonic: "Your trackers said you were both in the same place for a long time. I decided that letting you rest on vacation was unacceptable."
Tails: "Of course you did. I should have known."
"Hmph. Wanna come back to bed?" Zooey asked.
"Yeah." I slid back in bed. Zooey put her arm around me, which was nice. I cuddled up to Zooey, which she greatly appreciated. "Ureshiyume." I whispered over to her. She repeated it back to me.
{PM: Ureshi yume. 嬉し夢. Japanese for "Happy dream." English equivalent of "Sweet dreams."}
We slept until 18:45. I'd expect that would be an alarming time to wake up, but I was woken up by Zooey lightly brushing my muzzle. This was certainly ravishing.
Sonic: "At least you enjoyed yourself. I don't feel too bad."
I may have whimpered slightly, I was enjoying this so much. Zooey then ran her hand through my chest fluff. That was absolutely smashing. I was getting a kick out of this.
Zooey: "He certainly enjoyed himself."
Amy, pointing to head: "Noted. I'll remember that."
Sonic blushes lightly.
Zooey, to Amy. "Works like a charm."
Amy: "Good. Perhaps it's worth a shot."
Tails looks over to Sonic, who winks back at Tails.
Sonic then looks over to Amy. "Looking forward to it already." He said, with a one-sided smile.
Tails: "But I'm sure that's for later."
Not so much when she petted my head and bangs, although I still appreciated that. "Can you go back?" I asked Zooey, barely able to get my voice above a whisper. She returned to rubbing my chest fur. This must be what living in luxury feels like. This felt riveting. I began purring with pleasure, rather pitifully.
Sonic: "Well if it works like that, I can't wait!"
Amy: "Give it a rest, will you?"
She quit after 2 minutes of that. I knew that it was time for me to get up, which was done with great hesitation. I then began considering dinner options. I looked at some maps to find nearby diners that were going to stay open for a while. I found Sharon's Diner a few kilometers away. There were also bike rentals within minutes of the hotel. I put the two together, and she agreed with the plan. We both applied the gel to our fur and left the hotel at 19:00, and arrived at the bike rental place shortly after. We got to Sharon's Diner at 19:25, and were promptly seated.
I liked the atmosphere of the diner. It was very retro, with its high red bar stools and seats, and its black and white checkered floors. We were served by Gregory, as if the diner hadn't screamed 1950s enough. I got their "famous" BBQ pulled pork sandwich with at least eight other ingredients. I got a to-go box with it because I couldn't finish that in one sitting. Zooey got a vegetarian burger. We each ordered sweet tea. If we were on vacation, the least we could do was try out what was available.
When Greg left, I asked Zooey, "Did you have fun?"
"Of course! I had a blast. Have you?"
"Exceptional. That's all I need to know." I smiled at her, which she returned.
I was going to enjoy my last night here, no matter what it cost. We reviewed our trip and discussed our favorite events. Her favorite was us playing tennis. She swore a rematch against me, but still denied being mad that she lost.
Tails: "And she totally was. You should have seen her."
Zooey: "Oh hush, you!"
My favorite memory was our time on the beach together. Time flew by as we enjoyed ourselves. We were served before we knew it. Their sandwiches were absolutely savory. Their tea was served as promised - sweet. Zooey seemed to enjoy hers. It seemed that we had just been served when we each finished one half of our large sandwiches. We got boxes for them.
Zooey had noticed my eyes slowly gravitating toward the dessert menu. "Is dessert an option, Tailsy?" She asked.
"I'm thinking about it. Do you want to split a milkshake like we did that one time? Oh man, that was years ago." I started feeling a little bit old.
Sonic: "Come on, buddy! You're not that old."
"I'd love to!" Bingo. I ordered one shortly after.
Once Greg brought it to our table, I placed the straws in. "Whatcha waiting for, Zooey? You first."
It took 5 minutes or so before we finished the shake. I paid an undisclosed amount for our meal and we headed out. Before we hopped on our bikes, I asked Zooey, "Can I kiss you like I did last time?"
"Sure thing, cutie! Come here."
I complied for obvious reasons. I kissed her on the cheek. Then on the other. Then I pulled her in and kissed her on the nose, which she really seemed to enjoy. "You like it too, huh?" I asked.
Zooey blushed slightly. "It's… unusual. But very sweet." We certainly lived it up during our time here. It was 20:40 when we got back on our bikes, 20:55 when we returned them, and just past 21:00 when we returned to the hotel.
I recognized Sonic's car in the parking lot. Zooey and I decided that we would make one last trip to their room, as they would be leaving in under an hour. We took the elevator straight to the top, and located the Champions' Suite. To my surprise, the door had just shut by the time we got there. I think we had trailed them to their suite.
"May I? You know it's my favorite." I heard Sonic whisper behind the door.
"Come on, tiger!" Amy teased. I hoped Zooey didn't hear that.
"~Mmmmmmmhh~" Sonic purred. The drainage noises gave away that they were kissing. Were we condemned to hear this again?
"Mmmmmph… Sonnnic!" Amy groaned. They were definitely enjoying each other's company. I glanced back at Zooey, who looked disinterested. How could she be so apathetic when this was going on?
The heavy breathing and kissing sounds continued for I don't even know how long. It must have been at least 2 minutes. I was about to leave when I heard Amy talking.
Sonic: "I was looking at my Communicator to make sure you were right outside our door. Then we put our plan into action."
"Oh, Sonic. Don't touch my necklace. I can't breathe when you do that."
"Good." Sonic replied shockingly. That was followed by the most terrible gasping for air I have ever heard. What was going on in there? I heard Amy try to scream.
"Alright Zooey, we're breaking in." I warned. I set my card in the reader, and threw the door open. No one was there. I slowly entered the room, Zooey clinging to me for dear life. Could Sonic try to kill Amy? I couldn't imagine that; it was just not possible.
I entered the bedroom, which was pitch black. Suddenly, the lights were turned on.
"Good evening, little brother." Sonic said plainly.
Tails: "You scared me so bad when you said that!"
Amy: "You did look really scared. Sorry about that."
Sonic: "And I'm not sorry! That was the best lesson you'll ever get. I can't let you off the hook with everything, can I?"
Tails, annoyed: "I'm fifteen! But yes, that was a stupid decision on my part."
He and Amy were both seated on the edge of the bed, facing us. "Hey, Zooey!" Amy greeted, in a rather girly fashion. I noticed they were both wearing their finest clothes.
"I hope we've kept you two entertained." Sonic addressed us. "Besides how you've been keeping each other busy. So you tell me; did we put on a good show?"
Zooey, nervous: "S-Slow it down. What did you mean by keep each other busy?"
Amy: "What he means is that we didn't lose track of you. You meant to follow us, even going as far as using trackers, but Sonic put them on you."
Sonic, cutting Amy off: "So we know where you were the whole time. Should I recount your time spent together, or keep reading?"
Tails: "Continue."
Words failed me as tears filled my eyes. What had I thought that I would hurt my friend in such a way? "Why…" That was all I got out before I burst into tears. Amy came over and picked me up in her arms. I'm really light, and she is decently strong, but I did not expect her to do that.
Amy: "It pained me to see you so hurt inside."
"It's okay, Tails. We forgive you. What you did is understandable." She kissed me on the cheek and set me down. I'm not a child, and she's not my mother. Why did she do that? She began talking to Zooey.
"And you, little buddy," Sonic grabbed under my arms and threw me up, catching me again. "Need to cheer up! Whatever happened to the happy little boy we all love?"
"I betrayed your trust." I explained through the tears. "Why don't you hate me?"
"I couldn't bring myself to hate you! I just wanted to scare the living daylight out of ya, and it looks like I succeeded. Sorry, buddy."
Sonic: "I knew you'd be back to your normal self."
He set me down. "All I want you to know is" He looked me dead in the eye. "Don't ever follow us again." Quite terrifying.
"How did you know we were here?"
Amy chimed in. "When you rented out this suite. I looked at the clerk's computer and noticed that the renter was PROWER."
Sonic added, "I saw you guys before that."
Zooey: "That was when you drove your car at us."
Sonic: "Nope. In your general direction. I tried everything to get you to leave. You're just too stubborn."
Tails, annoyed: "Do you ever shut up?"
Sonic: "Nope!"
I sniffled a bit and stopped crying. "Well, it was the least we could do for you."
"And here is the least Amy and I can do for you!" Sonic began. He sat down and started messing with my shoes. He then did the same thing on Zooey's shoes.
"Can I help you?" I asked, rather sarcastically.
"No, but I can help you." He handed us back our trackers. "That's how I knew you were following us." Zooey and I glanced over at each other and blushed heavily. Her eyes twitched. I was worried that she was about to cry as well.
Zooey: "I really was."
Sonic noticed. "Aww. And you too, missy," He teased, also throwing her up and catching her, which I thought was an unsuitable gesture.
Sonic, continuously speaking. "My bad."
"Are forgiven." He set her down. At least I knew she smiled. That was a relief.
"And YOU, cher ami," He even threw Amy up so far she nearly hit the ceiling. He caught her in his arms. "Are loved dearly." She looked down at him, and he looked over at us. "Do you mind awfully if we give you what you came for?"
{PM: Cher ami. French for "Dear friend."}
Tails: "Aw man, if I could tell you how excited I was then."
Amy, aggravated: "Of course you were."
"What do you think we came here for?" I asked. I knew exactly why we were there, and was afraid he was catching on. (We were there to watch them hit it off.) I think it was about to pay off. I secretly couldn't wait.
Sonic sat on the edge of the bed, Amy seated sideways across his lap. She threw her arms around his neck. He put one arm around her back and ran his other hand through her quills. They began kissing again, this time slower than before. They were certainly taking their time. It was getting fiery in the room. Finally, they broke off and stood up, facing us. That was embarrassing just to watch.
Amy: "I regret nothing."
Sonic: "Neither do I. Your details are on point."
"Well, you two have certainly… consociated." Zooey observed.
"Hehehe." Amy giggled. "We certainly have."
Sonic stood up. "Hey kiddos, we hate to do this to ya. Amy and I have to leave in," He looked at the clock. (21:40) "Twenty minutes. I just wanted to summon you here."
He still refers to us as kids, despite our relative age. Grumpy old man.
Sonic: "What did you call me?"
Tails: "I had a clouded opinion of you at the time. You're not that old."
Sonic: "Good. You better keep it that way."
All four of us hugged it out in the end. We accepted what had happened, and we moved on from it, knowing that we had matured. At least he understood that we weren't mad. We only wanted to set them up, which was done successfully but quite unnaturally.
"I'll see you on the island, buddy." He teased, messing with my bangs playfully, like he did when I was just a boy.
Sonic: "Hehe. I think it's funny."
Zooey and Amy shook hands and said their goodbyes. "So long!" We all said, as Zooey and I left our suite. I had already accepted the fact that I would not sleep a wink that night. I felt so, so terribly sick that I had tried to take revenge on, chase down, listen into, and betray my big brother's trust like that.
Sonic: "You poor soul." He dashes over to Tails and hugs him again. "Just look at you! Your emotions are all over the place."
Tails whimpers and sniffles a bit.
Amy: "Aww, Tails! Please don't cry!" She gets up and hugs him too.
Tails, voice shaking: "I'm not gonna cry. Don't you worry about me."
Zooey approached Tails and kissed him on the nose. "I don't think you can cry with that." She teased.
Tails looked up and smiled bashfully at Zooey.
Once all had returned to their seats, Sonic continued.
When we arrived back at our hotel room, Zooey and I changed into our pyjamas and brushed our teeth before going to bed. Before going to sleep, Zooey asked me, "Are you okay, sweetie? You look angry."
"Hmph. I don't want to talk about it." I grumbled.
In place of a response, she ran her hand through my bangs. I hated when Sonic did that, but I loved when she did it. Interesting.
Just think of the devil and he shall appear. Without warning, our door was opened and in stepped our lovely couple. "What do you want?" I groaned in annoyance. I was slightly embarrassed that they walked in on us.
"Ha, you two are getting along well, I see. " Sonic cheered.
"Do you ever stop talking?" I rebounded.
We both sat up.
"What he means to say is, can you not barge in on us?" Zooey interrupted.
"Aww, you're so cute together!" Amy squeaked, unable to contain herself.
"You calling me cute? You're barely four years older."
"Hey! Are you calling me old?"
Zooey chimed in, unwelcome. "He means that you're acting like his mother."
I cut back. "Your kindness does not compare to my sharpness."
Sonic took his turn. "It doesn't feel so good when we barge in on you, does it?"
We both agreed.
"Just checking on ya." And with that, Sonic and Amy left.
"That was rather audacious." I remarked once they were out of range.
"Mhmm." Zooey yawned, turning over to sleep.
She was out of it in a matter of minutes. I absolutely could not. I was worried sick about what would happen once we returned home. At least Egghead wasn't up to anything.
I must have moved too suddenly, because I woke Zooey up. "Still awake?" She sighed.
"I can't sleep. I can't even live with myself. I don't know how you do it."
Amy: "Tails, are you really okay? I'm worried about you."
Tails: "I told you not to worry too much. But yes, I'm fine. I got over it."
"You poor thing." She started stroking my bangs again. She continued for a minute or two before I shyly asked. "Can you do what you did yesterday?"
"You like that too much, don't you?" She teased. "Okay, I suppose I can."
"Mmmmhh." I sighed in relief. I was already looking forward to this.
Zooey got out of bed, which was strange. I sat up just as she got to my side. She climbed back into bed and sat across my legs lengthwise. Just as I was getting up, Zooey pushed me back and set my head back on the pillow. "Don't worry, sweetie." I just now noticed that her crimson silk pyjamas are really soft.
She continued. "You've had an unbalanced day. Let me do the work this time." She kissed me on the lips, causing me to blush extensively. "And besides, I know what I'm doing." Zooey whispered really quietly into my ear. "You're going to enjoy this." She then kissed me on the nose. If she didn't stop teasing me, I would lose all the blood in my face. Zooey sat up again and bound her quills into a ponytail. I liked that style. Darn, she's hot.
Sonic: "Hey buddy, is there something in here you want me to skip?"
Tails: "I don't think so. Keep going for now."
Sonic: "Okay. I've called Zooey hot enough times."
Amy: "That's reasonable."
She began unfastening all the buttons on my flannel shirt, top to bottom.
"You spoil me too much." I whispered, drunk tired.
"And you're a hero. It's a fair trade." She rebounded.
"Hero's assistant." I clarified, rather unimpressed with myself.
"He's got Amy. Besides, you can be the man of the hour tonight." I was eagerly anticipating what would come next. When she had undone the final button, she set my shirt aside and looked me in the eyes again. I gave her a rather shamefaced smile, which she returned much more sweetly.
I must have quivered with excitement too hard, which Zooey noticed.
Sonic: "Wow, buddy! You really did enjoy yourself."
"Woah, easy, tiger! Don't get yourself too worked up. You couldn't sleep, remember?"
Ack, she did hear what Amy said.
Amy: "That one's on me."
Her instigations were too much. Then I realized what I had been missing. She began caressing my chest fur again. This felt positively glorious. "Mmmmh." I sighed. "What made you get up just for me?"
"I like your adorable reactions." She explained. "It fascinates me. It's intriguing knowing the ins and outs of you." She squeezed my muzzle playfully. "Something's on your mind; it's bothering you. Is there something you wanna tell me?"
It was tempting… Either way, I felt compelled to say everything. "I'm worried about the trackers. Sonic gave them back to us. He must have found them and used them against us. He knows where we were, at all times. All he needed to do was view in his communicator our exact location. Did he realize we were in his room? And if not, will that happen?"
Sonic: "Well, we knew you were under our bed. We forced a few things as a result."
"You're quite a thinker, foxy. Everything he knows and doesn't know will be resolved eventually. Also, are you referring to the same Sonic that understood us, forgave us, and still treats us well?"
"Yes. I wouldn't normally wouldn't ask this, now is a great opportunity. Why do you tease me so much? You've got quite a penchant for it, you know."
"You're cute when you're embarrassed. But you tease me back, so I don't feel too bad."
"Hehe. And so are you."
"I like seeing you enjoy yourself. I'll give you an example since I'm so generous."
Zooey rubbed my chest fur even harder, to the point she was almost scouring it. My entire body jolted upwards in a sudden rush of pleasure.
Amy: "Sonic, are you sweating?"
Sonic: "Actually, yes I am. This is getting very uncomfortable and it's embarrassing for me to read this."
Tails: "Aww, come on! You're getting close to the end."
It was at this point that I completely lost control. I began roaring with laughter. About 30 seconds later, Zooey eased up, and I regained my composure and laid back again.
"Was that a good example? I think I had your attention." She razzed.
"And you found a very pleasurable way to do it." I responded as coldly as I could. I wanted to see what she would do if I didn't react the way she wanted me to.
"Well, that was rather emotionless." She whined, rather disappointed. "I suppose you don't mind if I teach you another lesson?"
Amy: "Oh boy."
"Go for it." I closed my eyes in anticipation.
She started petting my chest fur very heavily. I had the same reaction; an outburst of laughter and lots of shaking.
"Want me to go harder?" Zooey asked.
"Yes!" I suppressed my voice to avoid yelling.
And she delivered. She was really using force, but it felt so good. After a few seconds, I felt my chest being compressed. "No more!" I commanded. Immediately she stopped. It took me a good minute to catch my breath.
"You getting ticklish?" She asked.
"Yes, but it feels really good too. That was a rush."
"I tried to warn you, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. At least I know what you like now. Also, I was supposed to put you to sleep. Too bad."
"A little detour never hurt anybody."
"Mhm. Here's a midnight kiss for my sweetie." She grabbed the back of my head and pulled to make me sit up, then she kissed me on the nose. It was 00:00, after all. Unexpected to her, I sat up quickly, pulled her to me, and kissed her hard on the lips. She blushed rather heavily. That's the cute reaction I was hoping for. She seemed unwilling at first, but returned the kiss until we broke apart a few seconds later.
"I think you've had enough excitement for today." She sighed as she got up and returned to her side of the bed. "It's time I put you to bed."
Amy, whispering to Sonic: "They're so cute together. It's unbelievable."
Sonic, whispering back: "I know, but they're too proud to admit it."
Zooey: "Say what?
Amy and Sonic both blush. He continued reading.
She unexpectedly picked me up and turned me over, so I was now lying on my stomach. I didn't resist. She knelt down beside me and began massaging my bare shoulders. "I just want to say good night now, since you won't stay awake much longer. Ureshiyume. Aitoshiteru."
"Ureshiyume. Subeteno watashiai."
{PM: Ureshiyume. 嬉し夢. Japanese for "Happy dream." English equivalent of "Sweet dreams." Aitoshiteru. 愛としてる. Japanese for "I love you." Subete no Watashiai. すべての 私愛. Japanese for "All my love."}
Sonic: "What are you guys saying?"
Zooey: "Stuff like sweet dreams and I love you."
Amy looks charmed.
I closed my eyes again and took a more relaxing position as Zooey continued to work her magic on me. Sure enough, I eventually fell asleep.
I woke up at 07:25 with Zooey still sleeping. I typed last night's extensive events into my notepad, redressed, and quietly left the room. I got Cocoa Rings for me and some fruit for Zooey. I wouldn't last a day as a vegetarian. I have no idea how she does it. I entered the room as silently as I possibly could, which was about as silent as a jackhammer.
Amy bursts out laughing, quite rudely.
I set down the fruits and Cocoa Rings on the table quietly enough to not wake Zooey. I then lightly brushed Zooey's muzzle to gently wake her up, like she did for me. She turned over the wrong way and nearly fell off the bed. I managed to catch her before that happened.
"Ohayou, cutie." I teased, while cradling her in my arms. Zooey just blushed and didn't say anything. "Don't worry. It's just me." I began slightly rocking her in my arms.
{PM: Ohayou. お早う. Japanese for "Good morning."}
"I'm not a child!" Zooey exclaimed, blushing even harder.
"Hehe. You're cute when you're mad."
Sonic: "Hahaha! So Tails teased back. This is getting interesting now."
"Oh, you!" She raged. "I won't stand for this!"
"If you won't stand for it, then you can stay here in my arms."
"You're so mean!" She yelled, breaking out of my arms.
Then she noticed that I got breakfast for her. She almost seemed taken aback at that.
I put my hand on her shoulder. "Did I get the best ones?" I asked.
She nearly burst into tears. "Miles, I love you, I love you, I LOVE YOU!" She whimpered, while rapidly kissing my face. "I shouldn't have been so mean!" I'll never understand why girls are so emotional.
Zooey: "And you'll never understand. You just don't get it."
"I knew you'd understand. You'll get me back next time."
"What did I do that you would be so nice?"
"Made me the happiest man alive. It's the least I could do. You outdid yourself."
"I knew you'd love it!" She gave me a short kiss on the lips, which I appreciated.
"Wanna sit on the balcony? It's a nice day out."
"Sure, sweetie!" In record time, I got her running back to me.
Zooey gasps and looks over at Tails in shock.
Tails feels everyone's eyes on him. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Sonic: "You might want to watch your mouth buddy. Or your words."
Tails, nervous: "I'm getting the feeling that something bad just happened."
Amy: "Yeah, he just read the part where you said you got Zooey *air quotes* running back to you."
Tails: "But is that not true, though?"
Zooey, much calmer: "It's kinda true. The way he put it makes it sound much worse. I forgive you, Tailsy."
We both had breakfast out on the balcony. It was perfect watching the sun rise together. Nothing at that time could have made me happier. I was on top of the world.
"Did you have a good time, sweetie?" I asked.
"I sure did! Did you?"
"Absolutely. We even got some time to ourselves."
"And you just loved it."
Sonic, continuously speaking: "You sure did."
I couldn't disagree. We shared the rest of our moment in silence, partially due to how tired we both were. It had definitely been an eventful week. We enjoyed the sunrise until 08:00, when a clock tower rang in the distance. "Well, it's time to get up." I sighed. "We have to leave here in an hour. I'd start packing soon."
"Okay." She groaned. I felt just as reluctant to leave.
She got up and showered while I packed all my clothes and personal items. She packed when I went to the front desk to sign out. I returned to our room, and once she had finished, we left. Continue at home.
{PM: I will no longer use bold to indicate speech, since there are no more journal entries. All the remaining text does not come from his journal.}
Sonic shut off the e-journal and set it aside. "Haha. Looks like we know the ins and outs of you, buddy." He teased.
"That was quite a trip!" Tails remarke, dodging Sonic's prompt.
"It sounds like it too." Amy said. "Did you two have a good time?"
"Sure did!" Tails and Zooey said at the same time. Tails yawned.
"How can you get tired at a moment like this?" Sonic asked.
"I… don't know. I guess I need more sleep." Tails replied.
"After all the sleeping we did on vacation?" Zooey shot back. She yawned as well.
"It's 09:45!" Sonic yelled. "How are you tired?"
"I woke up recently." Tails retorted.
"He's being serious, you know." Zooey mumbled. "I'm tired too."
"Then how did you get here?" Amy asked.
"I got here last night." Zooey explained, slightly blushing. "And I haven't left since."
Sonic looks over at Tails, who blushes heavily.
"Well, If you're both tired, I'll leave you to it." Sonic suggested.
He walked over to Tails. "Good night, buddy." He picked Tails up and carried him in his arms. Tails tilted his head and leaned against Sonic's shoulder. "I can't stay with you." Sonic whispered. "I wish I could."
"And neither can I." Amy added. She stole Tails from Sonic and hugged him. "Bye, Tails. All is forgiven. Don't worry about a thing."
Sonic and Zooey hugged it out as well.
"Guys," Sonic started. "I have something for you."
"You shouldn't have!" Zooey responded out of modesty.
Sonic reached into his pockets and took out one yellow and one orange communicator. "I stole them." He confessed.
"Don't worry about that!" Tails exclaimed. "You're the best!"
"I'm a terrible friend, man. I took stuff from you, and that's just starting all the mean things I've done to you. The least I could do for you is give you what's yours."
Tails and Zooey hugged Sonic at the same time. He picked them both up using strength he never knew he had. "I must be popular." He joked.
Amy grabbed both sides of his muzzle and kissed him, which he returned.
"Now I'm the happiest man in the world." He sighed, once they broke apart. He set the foxes down. "Now I'll leave you to your… sleep. Ready to go, Ames?"
"Yeah, it's about time we got going. Tails kept us entertained."
They all said their goodbyes and the hedgehogs left.
"Wanna go to sleep, Tailsy?" Zooey asked.
"I can't resist." He mumbled back.
Once Tails laid down on the couch, Zooey laid down beside him and set the blanket over them. She kissed him on the cheek one last time. "For good luck." She insisted. "Ureshiyume, sweetie."
"Ureshiyume. I swear you spoil me too much. I'll still accept it." He kissed her on the cheek also.
Meanwhile, the hedgehogs had watched from outside the window.
"Zooey clearly devotes herself to him." Amy remarked.
"She makes my little buddy so happy. I can see why he loves her." Sonic added.
"That's nice. I love you, Sonic." Amy confessed her feelings to her hero.
"I love you too, Amy Rose." Sonic replied. "May I kiss you again?"
"Certainly." Amy agreed. The hedgehogs moved in and kissed slowly, with more passion than ever, and not forced. Sonic felt his heart melt, and Amy felt her dreams come true.

Man, I've been working on this one for 2.5 months! This entire fanfic is based off a trope from The King of Fighters XI. (Specifically, the Art of Fighting team ending) I got significantly off track and out of control while writing this, but I regret nothing.
If you would like to see a chapter 2 or wish to stay updated, let me know in the comments or message me. I'll take any feedback I can get.
