"Do you think this is a little bit overkill, Gin? I mean, the guy's locked up tighter than Ted Bundy. I mean this really isn't our department."
"I don't think it is. The more I think about this— Dean she's terrified of this guy. That's gotta say something. If you'd seen her house.." Gin almost wanted to say even that was overkill. But she was a product of such trauma and never sought help after. So it manifested in that fort she lives in. Keeping anyone and everyone out.
"Alright, fine. Then when this guy is all cozy in his cot we are heading back, to finish what we initially started before this trip." Dean replied, reluctantly and rubbed the back of his neck to ease some of the tension there.
Just so keep the suspicion low, neither of them made the plan to follow the bus. If they had been caught, well, it might have been a little harder to talk their way out if they had asked about it. Since everything was so carefully orchestrated, that a car following the bus would make people ask questions. So, Gin sat at the starting point, hidden amongst the cars in the parking lot with Kelly's truck and Dean was at Smith's Grove waiting for the bus to arrive. It was about an hour so drive outside of Haddonfield, and Dean had already been there waiting.
As Gin sat and waited for the prisoner transport, she saw another, familiar truck pull up across the street. She had seen that truck before.. where had she seen that truck? When the lights turned off to the old ford she was looking at, it dawned on her, now that she could see it a bit better under the streetlight. It was Laurie. She wasn't surprised. Gin had little doubt before that Laurie would just stay home and hope that he got there. Movement caught her attention from the corner of her eye and she saw the prisoners starting to be transported to the bus. The yard was lit up with spotlights, she could hear the muffled dogs barking through the windows of the truck she sat in. But otherwise, everything seemed to be calm and coordinated. It seemed as though all of the prisoners followed protocol with little static, and from what Gin could see, it didn't look like anyone had to be sedated or drug onto the bus by their cuffs.
So maybe all of this would work out and she and Dean could be back on the road. But there was something in the back of her mind that nagged quietly; things were going too well. Gin's eyes drifted over to the other pick-up parked across the way and she could see the faint, still silhouette of Laurie in the dim streetlight. And little did she know that Laurie was looking right back at her, unknowingly that she had company.
When the bus pulled out of the facility, Gin was surprised to see that Laurie's truck didn't move to follow, and it made her second guess following the bus initially. Maybe Laurie had the same thought, to keep suspicion away, she'd hang back and just go on blind hope that the bus would make it to its final destination with everyone accounted for. The more Gin thought about it, she started to lean towards that bit of blind hope, too. Granted, she had Dean on the other end, waiting until they arrived so it wasn't like she wouldn't know if something happened.
Gin waited until after Laurie pulled away to drive off before she went off in her own direction. The wait to hear from Dean began. So instead of going straight back to Kelly's, Gin decided she'd keep her ear to the ground at the local bar.
