"The robbery was led by nefarious criminal Roman Torchwick. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact the Vale police department."
The TV recounted the events of last night's crime that led to Ruby Rose's sudden entrance to Beacon academy, as the Bullhead carrying each prospective Beacon student flew through the air. The sisters of the Xiao Long household stood side by side, discussing the robbery themself, until the TV suddenly changed channels, catching the attention of every nearby student.
"Hello, and welcome to Beacon." announced a stern looking woman. "My name is Glynda Goodwitch. You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy. Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future huntsmen and huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task - and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and training to protect our world" The TV flickered off, causing many students nearby to gasp in awe, as it revealed a wonderful sight.
Vale.
One such student that was staring at the scenery was a blue haired woman, standing nearby Ruby Yang. She was alone, playing with a small ball of water in her hands, which she dropped upon seeing the sight. The ball splashed upon hitting the floor, getting the shoes of nearby students wet, including the shoes of Yang Xiao Long.
"Hey! Watch what you're doing, you got my shoes wet!" muttered Yang, causing Marina to squeak in fright, spouting intelligible nonsense that seemed to resemble an apology. "Calm down! It's okay! It's only water." intervened Ruby, trying to stop an argument breaking out before Beacon even began. "My name's Ruby Rose, what's yours?"
"Marina… Marina Valtameri, I'm so sorry for getting you guys wet. I was just so nervous and was occupying my hands and accidentally dropped it. I'm so sorry!" Marina was in hysterics.
Yang was about to try to calm her down when a scraggly, green looking man suddenly ran past the threesome, a strange smell permeating through the air.
"Oh Yang gross you have vomit on your shoe!"
"Grossgrossgrossgrossgrossgrossgross!"
Marina, slowly calming down, smiled to herself. If she could make actual real people friends, she could do this! She could survive Beacon!
After the bullhead touched down upon the Beacon airstrip, the students began to filter out into the student premises. Marina, Ruby Yang all let out a collective woah upon seeing the beautiful architecture of Beacon Academy. It was like a castle! Tall spires piercing into the sky, banners, nature and grand arches all littered throughout the grounds.
"The view from Vale's got nothing on this…" quipped Yang.
Meanwhile Ruby began throthing at the mouth - Weapons! Glorious weapons everywhere! She was in heaven! This was bliss!
"Ruby, don't you have Crescent Rose already?" asked Yang, knowing exactly what the response would be. "Of course I do Yang, but it's just like meeting new people, but better!"
Marina smiled at this; "She has a point there, talking to new people is hard… Weapons don't judge you for little mistakes, weapons can't hate you! Weapons can't tell anyone about the time you accidentally broke your mothers expensive vase while traini- eep!" Marina covered her mouth, blushing
Ruby and Yang laughed, until Yang adopted a more serious tone "Alright Ruby, I'm glad you already made a friend, so I'll let you two get to know eachother better, kay? Besides, I have my own friends to catch up with too, y'know."
Ruby looked puzzled, "What frie-" suddenly, a group of students rushed by, Yang joining them saying goodbye to Ruby.
"Yang, wait! Where are you going! Do we go to our dorms? Where are our dorms? Do we have dorms? Aww man…" In a panicked state only the highest level of introverts could achieve, Ruby collapsed in a heap, Marina giggling at the antics, until Ruby knocked over several suitcases. Marina froze.
"What are you doing?!" a shrill voice proclaimed, Ruby muttering apologies in frenzy, once again proving her proficiency in the art of being a social wreck. "Sorry? Do you have any idea of the damage you could have caused? Give me that!" The posh looking girl snatched a suitcase from Ruby's arms as Marina realized who this was.
"Uhh Rub-" "This is dust." Announced the ticked off girl. "Mined and purified from a Schnee quarry; what are you, braindead? Fire! Water! Lightning! Energy! Are you even listening to me?"
As the Schnee heiress moved the leaky container around, dust began to fill the air, filling Ruby's nostrils.
Marina backed off before the inevitab- "Achoo!!"
An explosion rattled the ground as the fury of the elements was unloaded onto the sooty - Sorry - snooty girl, a glass bottle of dust flying off, being caught by a mysterious woman reading a book.
"Unbelievable, this is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about!" raged the Schnee. Ruby was bashfully playing with her fingers. "I'm really really really sorry…"
The mysterious girl approached Marina, still clasping the bottle of dust. "What's got the Schnee in a tiff?" she inquired.
"Huh? Oh. Ruby, the girl in red, accidentally knocked over her stuff. I don't think she actually knows who this is." explained Marina, a shy smile donning her face. Blake said nothing and began to approach the scene.
"It's heiress, actually…"
The mysterious woman who came to Ruby's aid, walked off after antagonizing the Schnee to the point she stormed off. Ruby sighed to herself.
"Why is social interaction so hard…" she groaned. Marina put a hand on Ruby's shoulder, smiling in solidarity, when a blonde man walked up to them.
"Hey," the man smiled. "I'm Jaune."
"Ruby." groaned the reaper. "And this is Marina." Marina gave an awkward wave. A sudden realization shocked the awkward duo, causing them to snort.
"Aren't you the guy who threw up on the ship?"
Jaune looked on in horror. He would never live this down.
"All I'm saying is that motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on" exclaimed Jaune. "I'm sorry," giggled Ruby. "Vomit boy was just the first thing that caught on."
"What if we called you Crater Face?" Marina fired at Ruby, sticking her tongue out for good measure. Ruby paled. "H-hey! That explosion was an accident!"
Jaune walked ahead of the duo. "Well then. I'm Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, rolls of the tongue, ladies love it!" Marina Ruby looked at him with the same deadpan expression, before saying "Do they?" disbelievingly. Jaune spluttered; "W-well they will! In time! My mom always said that uh.. Nevermind."
An awkward silence permeated the air. It seems the newfound trio were all experts at being completely socially incompetent.
"So… i've got this thing?" Ruby beamed, pulling out something that quickly grew into a giant deadly scythe. "Woah!" Exclaimed Jaune Marina. "Is that a scythe?" This caused Ruby to launch into a tirade explaining every intimate detail of her weapon, Crescent Rose.
"So what do you guys have?" Inquired Ruby, a downright thirsty look on her face. Jaune responded first. "Oh, I uhh… got this thing?"
Jaune pulled out a sword. And a shield. Ruby's smile calmed down a bit. "So what does it do?" Jaune fumbled with his weapon, explaining how the shield could turn into a sheathe… not that it made it any lighter.
"I guess I went a little overboard designing my baby," chuckled Ruby, staring adoringly at her weapon. "What about you Marina, how do you fight?"
Marina smiled widely and took out her weapon.
"Her name is Tsunami! She may look like a regular old sword at first, but you press this button and…" Her sword suddenly lurched out, and a swing from Marina sent pieces of the sword attached to a wire flying. It turned into a whip! Ruby began to drool at the sight as Jaune stood back, shocked.
A shy smile adorned Marina's face as she refused to make eye contact. "I may or may not have stolen her design from a game." Marina chuckled, sweating a little.
"You guys designed your own weapons?" A shocked Jaune asked.
"Everyone at Signal designs their own weapons", a proud Ruby exclaimed.
"I didn't go to a prep school, but I did plan my own weapon. My parents got it commissioned for me, though." Marina replied, less enthusiastic. "Did you make yours?"
"It's a hand-me-down. My great great grandfather used it to fight in a war." Explained Jaune.
"Sounds more like a family heirloom to me," chuckled a smug Ruby. "but I like it! Not everyone has an appreciation for the classics."
"Hey guys?" Asked Marina. "Where are we actually going?" a curious Ruby replied; "I don't know, we were following you."
Marina deadpanned… They were completely lost.
