CHAPTER 2 – Midnight Talk
"Hey Asriel, you awake?"
The question rung through Asriel's ears while his sleeping body processed the question. He slowly opened his eyes to see No one other than Chara above him with a questioning look on his face.
Asriel let out a long yawn as he stretched out his body.
"Mm... What do you want? You should be asleep anyways."
Chara crawled into bed with Asriel. Their beds may have been separated but each was big enough to let both sleep next to each other; though they might be separated by race, they're as close as any normal brothers.
"Hey! You've got your own bed you know, jeez!"
"Aww c'mon, too old to share a bed with your older brother, eh? Anyways... you've just turned 10, what do you plan on doing?
"I- I'm not sure honestly... I really want to make dad proud and show him I can become a defender! But the training involved is what scares me."
Defenders are elite monsters who are called upon when humans attack. They are the first and last line of defense to ensure that at least a few survive.
"Ha! Ah I remember when I tried to be a defender. That training was hell, I can truly respect anyone who's completed it."
"Wow now I feel even better about it..."
"Well, it's gonna be a lot worse for you than it was for me. Since I'm a human my soul is naturally strong, hell my human soul is so much stronger than a monsters, I didn't need to become a defender, I just wanted to try it."
"Okay seriously dude, you're not making me feel any better about doing this!"
"Hey, lighten up, I know you can do it. Your sense of determination is like no others I've seen, and once you put your mind to something you never give up. I really believe you've got this!"
The night swept away as the brothers spoke to one another, nothing could ever separate them. They lived and laughed for each other, and were truly brothers in every way... * * *
Water dripped from Asriel's wet fur, he found his spot to bath which was right by a waterfall and was washing himself off. A crescent shaped scar was now visible on his back from the bottom of his neck to the lower area of his back. It was an oddly calm and tranquil sight; one you wouldn't really see Asriel in unless you were close to him… It was the way he so calmly cleaned himself like he had no care for outside affairs, only what was happening now; that's what made it seem that way, but in all honesty, that was far from true…
"Alright, I've had enough of you staring at me who are you?" Asriel turned his head toward the surrounding brush behind him and starred.
"Don't play dumb with me, I know you're there somewhere, but am I going to have to find you or will you be polite and not make this such a needless hassle…"
-WRITER NOTE-
I know the first 2 chapters are really short right now, but I will try to have lengthened chapters once a gain more experience with writing.
This is my first time writing a story and publishing it on a site for people to see so I'm inexperienced with writing for a long time and making long chapters too read.
For anyone who is reading this story, if any, just bear with me please, I'm trying :)
