A/N: I'm trying a new Harry Potter fanfic idea.
I will not abandon Harry Potter and the True Dark Lord.
This story has the same idea as a role-play forum I posted a while ago but didn't really get a response, so I'm going to do a fanfiction instead.
Now, onto the story.
Chapter 1: The Power of a Name
James Potter did not like Death Eater meetings.
Sure, the Death Eaters were working towards a good cause, and he was one of them, but did they really have to sit through those dry meetings every week?
It was the same every time. Wake up, Apparate to Malfoy manner, exchange greetings with his best friend, Lucius, and maybe some other Death Eaters.
Then they would go to the drawing room where Riddle would be waiting.
Tom Marvolo Riddle was a good and confident speaker, and quite an energetic man, but even he couldn't make these meetings less boring.
The meetings were mostly the same. Different ways of fighting the Order of the Phoenix.
Lord Dumbledore and his men were becoming merciless. Burning down entire villages.
It was on the evening of one such meeting that James exhaustedly Apparated back to Godrick's Hollow to see his wife, Lily, and young son, Harry.
He landed in the living room with a pop.
Lily turned to greet him. "Good evening, James. How was the meeting?"
"It was as boring as usual. Tom said he'd stop by tomorrow afternoon to see how we're doing."
Lily smiled at this. Tom Riddle had been Lily's favourite teacher at school back when he was the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher.
Now, he was headmaster of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and a very dear friend of the Potters.
James sat down on the couch.
"Where's Harry?" He asked.
"He's in bed. Put up quite a fuss, though. He certainly didn't want a nap. Getting him to bed was almost as hard as getting you to take anything seriously."
James smiled. "Come on, Lily. We both know there's no point in taking everything seriously all the time."
"Yes. But you were even joking when we decided to betray the Dark Lord and join Tom."
James frowned at the memory of the crimes they had committed in the name of Dark Lord Albus Dumbledore.
They were both firm supporters of the light.
Lily smiled at James.
"We have this whole night to ourselves. We can just relax. No death eater meetings. We don't have to worry about Dumbledore or his—"
"No! Lily! Don't say his name. It's taboo!"
Too late. The taboo on Dumbledore's name had been set off. Now a member of the Order would find them.
James felt the protective charms around the house come crashing down as a large pop was heard from outside, the sound of a wizard Apparating onto the front lawn.
"Lily! Take Harry and go! I'll hold them off!"
Lily protested, but she ultimately gave in after James gave her that look he got when he really was being serious.
Lily ran up to Harry's room, and James stood downstairs, his wand in hand.
He pressed his wand to his Light Mark, and ignored the couple seconds of pain that this caused.
The Death Eaters would be here at any second.
The door came crashing down, and a voice bellowed, "I know your in there, Potter. Come out so I can kill you."
Albus Dumbledore stepped into the room, his face twisted in rage.
He had been alerted that the taboo on his name had been set off.
He was going to send Sirius Black to deal with the unworthy scum who dared speak his name.
Black had been looking for someone to kill for a while. He was getting quite restless.
But Dumbledore realized it was the Potters, and he decided he would go and kill those traitors himself.
After what they had done, he didn't think they deserved life.
When Dumbledore stormed into the house, he was ready to kill. There would be blood spilt tonight, and it would not be Dumbledore's.
Dumbledore stepped into the house, his wand ready, and smiled as he saw James Potter, his wand also in his hand.
"You!" Potter growled. "Why did you come. You usually hide behind one of the members of your pathetic order."
"I want to kill you myself." Dumbledore said.
James smiled. "Not if you can't catch me first."
James ran off.
He hid in many rooms, casting notice-me-not charms on all of them, but Dumbledore could see through the most powerful charms, and he found James in the end.
"This is where it all ends, Potter." Dumbledore spat. "I will kill your wife and take your son as my own. You are nothing but a traitor whose life amounted to nothing in the end."
"We will always fight you." James said. "For the freedom of the Wizarding World."
The last thing James Charles Potter ever saw or heard again was Albus Dumbledore's voice saying, "Avada Kedavra!" Followed by a flash of green light.
Then James Potter felt no more.
Dumbledore stepped over the body of James Potter.
His death had been quick.
It left an unsatisfied feeling inside him. He decided that Lily Potter would feel pain before her death. She would beg Dumbledore to end it, and only after minutes of pain, would he agree to her request.
Dumbledore stepped into the child's bedroom. Young Harry Potter would make a great warrior for the Order.
Lily Potter was hiding in the room under a strong Disillusionment charm.
The Dark Lord pointed his wand at Lily Potter and said, "Crucio!"
It hit her, and Lily was in excruciating pain.
She did not give Dumbledore the satisfaction of hearing her beg for death, for she knew that was what the sadistic monster of a man wanted.
Eventually, Dumbledore grew tired of this, and he killed her with a flick of his wand and a flash of green light.
Dumbledore put away his wand and approached the boy in front of him.
Harry Potter was coming with him.
But before Dumbledore could do any such thing, the door opened, and Tom Riddle swept in.
"Albus. It's a pleasure to see you." Tom said.
"The pleasure is all yours, Tom. You, after all, are the head of a resistance against my forces. We will rule the Wizarding World one day. We will force the Muggle filth and their mudblood children to bow down to us."
"No. You never will, Albus. And I'm taking the boy."
"I shall spend many years thinking of my next plan." Dumbledore said. "You may not see me for many years, but this isn't over."
Tom and Dumbledore both Apparated to different spots.
Long story short, the Malfoys were raising Harry Potter. He became known as the Boy who Escaped.
Nobody had ever been known to escape Dumbledore like that.
Things were quiet in the Wizarding World.
Minister for Magic Augustus Rookwood had managed to restore some semblance of order in the world.
That is, until Harry Potter came to Hogwarts.
