"Alright, batteries check, mini bagels check, Oreo's check, chicken wings check." Maggie lists off as she leans against the cart now wondering lazily down a random else. "Yummy vegan style rocky road that always seems to be sold out every other time I want to have some." She smiles looking fondly at the tub now sitting with a place of reverence in her cart. "Triple check."
Alex once again made a face at that, but it goes unnoticed by the human woman leaning towards her. 'Yummy and vegan should not be in the same sentience' she muses by way of distracting herself from the fact that at this angle Alex was able to see all the way down the front of her ex's stolen tee-shirt as Maggie continues pushing the cart along whilst absently humming to herself as she scanned the shelves. The thing started and stopped with forced jerking motions more times than Alex could stand considering only three of the cart's four wheels seemed to be working properly.
"Aaww what a cutie."
Alex's ears perk up initially at the overly exaggerated cooing of the dark-haired woman with the shopping basket now making her way over towards them and who was just by the look in her eyes, halfway finished undressing Alex's ex with her gaze alone as she sidles up to the half-full cart Maggie was so coolly lounging against.
At a glance, Alex would swear she was looking at some slightly similar version of herself during what Kara rightly called her 'party girl' phase of life before she'd found her calling in joining the DEO.
Dark hair, dark eyes, tight clothes, and an air of buzzed induced self-assurance than with the right amount of flirting she could get anyone or anything she wanted.
And right now, all she seemed to want was Alex's ex-fiancée.
Maggie must have noticed the sickeningly sweet tone too considering her hand slipped over the side of the 'child only' seat she'd settled Alex into before starting off on the short trip to twist a calming hand against the raised heckles of Alex's back.
"Yeah, she is," Maggie agrees straightening up much to Alex's thanks and the dark-haired woman's disappointment.
"Can I pet, her?"
Alex fights down a growl at the claw-like manicured hand now reaching towards her. Or more to the point, towards Maggie. She knew she wasn't imagining the indented double meaning of the question as once again hooded eyes swept over her visibly uncomfortable ex-fiancée.
Again, Alex fights down the want to growl in warning.
Maggie was hers.
Well, not hers.
Not anymore.
And anyway, Maggie was more than capable of handling something like this all on her own.
"Uhh."
Alex blinks a few times surprised by the now deer in headlights look Maggie was sporting as the not inertly unattractive 'party girl' crowds into more of Maggie's personal space.
"My girl…" Maggie starts to say as she was backed against a shelf of different scents of laundry soaps and softeners.
"Is very pretty." The other woman agrees "although I'm more a cat lover myself." She says with a wink obviously no longer talking about the angry puppy trying to chew her way out of the child strap Maggie had tethered to the safety vest she'd coxed Alex into wearing before leaving the apartment.
Alex only agreed when she realized the compression of the thing against her tinnier body reminded her comfortingly of her tactical gear.
"But your girl - well I might just snatch her up right here, right now, and take her home with me." the unnamed woman hums making Alex's stomach turn. She just hoped that is she did get sick she could at least make it count and throw up on the other woman's high heels.
Maggie was shaking her head trying to maneuver out of the small amount of space the dark-haired one was allowing between them. "N—no, that's not-"
"No?"
Alex really did growl this time at the scoffed airiness of the echo. The 'party girl was much too close.
"I'm not—" Maggie tries again but the blonde was already shaking her head with a laughed "Try again," at the longing hitch in Maggie's breathing at their closeness.
"There you two are."
All three heads turn as one toward the new voice.
Two with mirrored puzzled looks the third guilty gratefulness that can only be expressed with a full-body trembling and several whimpered happy yelps as the newcomer forces herself between Maggie and the unnamed third woman with an even "Sorry it took me so long, darling. They've changed things around on us, but I finally found those training pads you wanted to pick up."
Kelly even going so far as to dump the double pack of puppy potty pads into Maggie's cart with an added scold of "and I thought we agreed to meet over by the sports section to pick up a few new tennis balls before Grace, here chews up all our shoes." still playing the part of an annoyed girlfriend as Kelly continues after a quick glance towards the collar Alex was still wearing at her throat. Alex's current lady love still uses herself as a shield between Maggie and the dark-haired one apparently not taking the hint of Maggie not returning her advances.
"Who's your friend?" Kelly asks and from her vantage point, Alex can see Kelly giving Maggie's hand a reassuring squeeze despite the taller of her past and current lovers not taking her eyes from the now annoyed-looking 'party girl' chomping angrily on a woad of peppermint-scented chewing gum.
The other woman not even bothering to cover her actions by grabbing a random box from beside Maggie's head to put back somewhere else in the store before she turns on her heels with one last snap of a popped gum bubble as she stalks away.
"Are you alright?" Kelly asks immediately backing up allowing Maggie some much-appreciated breathing space when it was clear 'party girl' was out of earshot.
Maggie didn't answer at first only sagging against the shopping cart to hide her flushed face against Alex's side in shame while Alex herself was trying to give her shaking ex some reassuring nuzzlings.
"Maggie?" Kelly asks her voice just above a low whisper.
"I'm alright." Maggie assures as she keeps her forehead pressed against Alex's warmed underbelly. Alex's more puppy-like ways bleeding out in now she was rather happily nibbling on a few of her ex's long soft locks. "I just need to get laid by something that's not powered by batteries and then maybe I'll feel like myself again." Maggie goes on with a strained attempt at a laugh as she admits this.
Kelly gives a nervous laugh of her own at that as she starts taking back the few items she'd dropped off into the cart during the little act. "Well, if that was a proposition, I'm flattered but I'm already in a happy relat—"
Maggie was already shaking her head in denial much to Alex's disappointment when that also means Maggie straightens up from her bowed leanings over the front of the shopping cart so Alex could no longer chew her downy soft hair. "It wasn't," she assures then her eyes catch the thing Kelly was juggling in her arms.
"How old is yours?" she asks conversationally as her fingers slide even more against Alex's back earning a happy sigh from the puppy.
"Same as yours just by the look of her." Kelly answers earning what passed for a laugh from her girlfriend as Alex blinks up at her from the child seat of Maggie's shopping cart.
"Oh, then trust me, you don't want that kind." She says her voice far surer than it had been moments before.
"Really?" Kelly asks surprised
Maggie nodes once as she turns the uncooperative cart around with a not so playful. "Unlike its advertising, those do not hold up under pressure."
Kelly only sighs long and low at the new information as she not so stealthily reshelves the pads pack on a shelf originally designated for boxed detergents under Maggie's amused snickering.
"Come on." Maggie decides after a short two heartbeat length pause between the three. "I need to swing by the pet's department myself, I'll point you in the right direction." She offers with a shy smile.
"Yes, please." Kelly agrees falling into step with the squeaking shopping cart.
The trip coming to a not so quick end with Maggie smooth-talking her way into buying Kelly's small collection of choices as a 'thank you' for her help with the gum-chewing 'party girl' and after Kelly had walked out with them and finished helping Maggie loading her own cash of choices into the back of her off roads Jeep that for the second time in less than two days Alex watches from the safety of Maggie's arms as Kelly turns around and walks away only instead of a possible Alex twin of a puppy Kelly was holding several bags of puppy care-related purchases as she heads towards her own car oddly enough only parked a few spaces down from Maggie's.
