It's rare for a moment of quiet these days, and yet that's not an annoyance but a rich blessing. Kiki's holding the basket, though as usual she doesn't look the part of a dainty woman, and she doesn't need to play that role. Because she can be herself, and there's Mitsuhide with a kid in each arm, and two running past his ankles.
They make for a quite boisterous family. Mitsuhide sets down the kids as they near the perfect place to sit, and Kiki smiles over at him, as she unrolls the blanket with their eldest daughter's help. Yuki is eager to help; she takes a bit more after her mother than her father in looks.
Yuki's hair is blonde and right now, held up in a bun that is half falling down. It's gotten a little messy, but then again, the bun had never been perfect. Though her eyes are her father's shade of brown, and as soon as both she and her mother finish setting down the blanket, Yuki's already off trying to gather her mostly younger siblings. Her older brother by a year, Mizu, is off to the side, more of the quiet one of the bunch.
Mitsuki, the youngest daughter is pretty quick to listen to her older sister. Mitsuki's hair is a sort of gray-ish black, almost mirroring her father's hair, and her eyes are the beautiful blue shade of her mother's. She holds Yuki is high esteem, always looking up to her older sister and dreaming of being like her one day.
Mitsuki's a little shy and also a tad on the quiet side, though nowhere near as quiet as Mizu is, and she's gentle, compassionate. She can be quiet like her mother but as compassionate as her father, and it makes for a beautiful combination. Mitsuki loves to learn, and though she's a little young to go to school, she gets excited to learn something new especially if Yuki's the one teaching her.
Satoru is the youngest of the two boys and youngest of the kids overall, and he's full of all the energy of a toddler, bright eyed and giddy. He takes a seat though not far from his dad, and Mitsuhide smiles over at his youngest child.
They make a nice set of six as they have a picnic in the park. Kiki doesn't have to juggle her family's legacy today, and Mitsuhide's off of work for the whole day. And the sky is unusually clear given the fact that it's been rainy off and on for almost three weeks now. It's warm today too; summer is finally coming by to stay a while.
"What's school like?" Mitsuki asks Yuki, and her older sister gives her a contemplative look.
"Fun with the right teachers and friends." She shrugged; she doesn't hate school, but it's more of a neutral thing for her.
"Depends on the class." Mizu offers instead, and Mitsuki smiles up at her older brother, probably lost in imagining just what that would look like.
"It's not long for you yet." Kiki tells her, because really the years seem to fly by. And while Kiki can hardly imagine what it will be like when her youngest two kids are in school; Mitsuki is nearly old enough for Kindergarten now.
Mitsuhide shoots her a look, as if to say slow down, and Kiki marvels that she handles it a little bit better than her husband does. But Mitsu hide's so hands on, so attentive, and she knows he'll miss the days years down the road when he got to read them bedtime stories and tuck them in, when he got to run around the playground with them. Right now, those days are still here, and she knows that he'll cherish every last one of them.
Kiki hands him a sandwich if only to make him relax a little, and then passes out the rest of the sandwiches, marked carefully on top their Ziplock bags who they go to. Until everyone finally has a sandwich and they get to enjoy those wonderful meal together, a rather simple one, but a great one nonetheless.
Days where they could just relax like this were rare, and Kiki was doing her best to savor this day, with all four kids and Mitsuhide by her side.
