Chapter 1: Secret Friendship

Would it work? Would it actually work? There's no way it would actually work. At least that's what Marcy thought before she was proven wrong.

"Ugh, what happened?," groaned Marcy as she wiped some mud off of her face.

Marcy looked up as some bird-sized dragonflies flew overhead, she definitely wasn't in LA any more.

"It worked? It actually wor- I mean Anne, Sasha you guys seeing this?," she asked.

She received no answer.

"Anne?Sasha?"

Again there was nothing but silence.

"ANNE?!SASHA?!"

"WHERE ARE YOU GUYS?!," she yelled.

Her yelling must've been louder than she thought because from out of nowhere popped out a giant praying mantis and it sure looked hungry.

4 DAYS LATER.

Having wrapped up her deliveries for the day Maddie was making her way to her spot in the woods which she called her "Magic Testing Grounds". She read over the list of ingredients she'd need for her next spell.

Rat guts: Check

The tail of a tadpole (don't ask): Check

1 Boomshroom: Check

Hair of the beast: Not check

What was this "beast" she wondered? Amphibia was home to a magnitude of different creatures and plenty of them could count as beasts.

Maddie continued on her way to her spot in the woods when suddenly Wally the local loon burst out from the bushes screaming which startled her and made her fall down.

"AGH, WHAT THE FROGGING HECK WALLY?!," she yelled.

"Sorry creepy little girl but there be a horrible beast in these woods and I've gotta warn the town!," Wally yelled as he ran off in the other direction without helping her up.

"A beast?," she thought to herself.

Knowing Wally the supposed "Beast" was probably just an overgrown rabbit-bug, but what the heck it might be worth a shot.

20 MINUTES LATER.

Maddie had set a trap for said beast now all she had to do was wait, but little did she know she was being watched from the shrubs by an unknown creature.

"It's just a little girl.," the creature thought,"I mean even if she does somehow kill me I'm sure it'd be a whole lot less painful than starving to death."

"Hi I'm Marcy!," the creature exclaimed as it jumped out the bushes.

"GAH!," Maddie yelped as she fell down startled.

"Oops sor-,"

"THE BEAST!," Maddie yelled.

"What?! A beast!? Where?!," Marcy asked worriedly.

"You.," Maddie said as she pointed at the tall gangly creature with the bulbous head and flimsy makeshift bow on it's back.

"What?! I'm no beast, I'm a human!," Marcy said.

"A hu-what?," Maddie asked.

"A human!," Marcy answered. "Anyway I already told you my name, what's yours?"

"Maddie, Maddie Flour.," the witch frog replied.

"Well Maddie do you have anything to eat?," the creature asked as it's stomach growled.

"Oh, uh, here have this.," the blue frog said as she handed the creature some bread.

The morsel was immediately snatched from her hands and gobbled up by the creature.

"OMG! Thank you so much!," Marcy exclaimed gratefully.

"You're welcome. So uh anyway, can I have some of your hair?," Maddie asked.

"Sure! Wait wha-?!,"

"OUCH! What do ya need that for?!, she asked the witch.

"I need it for my next spell.," the frog girl answered.

"OH MY GOSH! SPELLS? DO YOU KNOW MAGIC?! ARE YOU A WITCH?!," the human asked excitedly.

"Yup.," the frog answered.

"THAT'S SO COOL!," Marcy exclaimed.

"Y-you actually think magic is cool?," Maddie asked.

"Of course.," the human answered.,"Who wouldn't think magic is cool?"

"Most people.," Maddie said.,"They usually just run away screaming or call me a freak or something."

"That's terrible!," Marcy exclaimed.

"I've gotten used to it.," Maddie said.

"Well I would love it if you could teach me some magic.," said Marcy.

"Rea-",

"SKREEEEE!"

"What the frog was that?!," Maddie asked, panicked.

"Oh yeah, forget about the mantis. Oops.," Marcy said as the giant insect burst out from behind some trees.

"AAAAAAAHHHH!," the two screamed.

In a heartbeat Marcy scooped the frog up underneath her arm and made a run for it.

After running for a while Marcy ducked into a large hollow log.

A FEW MINUTES LATER.

"YOU SAVED ME!," the frog exclaimed.

"Aw geez it was nothing.," said Marcy.

"No really there has to be something I can do for you!," the frog insisted.

"Well now that you say it…",said the human."I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!"

"Ask away!," the witch said.

"Question one! Have you seen my friends?," Marcy asked as she showed the frog a photo.

"Sorry, can't say that I have.," answered Maddie.

"Darn it! Okay, question 2. Have you seen this?," Marcy said as she showed Maddie a photo on her phone.

"Calamity box?," Maddie asked. "Sorry, never heard of it."

"Okay. Question thr-.,"

KRASH!

Suddenly the log they had taken shelter in was sliced in two, surprisingly no one was injured.

"SKREEEEE!," screeched the mantis.

"This guy again?!," Maddie exclaimed.

The insect raised it's giant claw and swung down at the young frog. Maddie shut her eyes and prepared for the worst.

SLASH!

Maddie thought it was over and yet, her demise never came.

"Huh?!,"Maddie uttered as she opened her eyes.

To her surprise there was Marcy holding back the Mantis' claw.

"MADDIE!," the human said intensely. "You've gotta hit it in the eye!"

It was almost as if she had scanned the insect's body for weak points.

Maddie could've said she saw Marcy's flash green.

"Got it!," Maddie replied as she reached into her pocket.

"TAKE THIS YOU BIG UGLY BUG!," said the frog as took out a seemingly empty glass bottle and flung it into the mantis' eye.

The bottle burst apart sending shards of glass into the mantis' left eye.

"SKREEEEE!," the mantis shrieked in pain.

Half blinded, the mantis retreated into the woods.

"WOO! WE DID IT!," Maddie exclaimed.

"That was awesome! High five!," Marcy said excitedly.

"High what?," Maddie asked confusedly.

"A high five! It's when somebody sticks out their hand like this and then you slap it.," answered Marcy.

"Sure why not?," Maddie said as she slapped her slimy hand onto Marcy's.

"That's what's up my froggy friend!," Marcy said.

"Friend?," Maddie asked confusedly. "Did you just call me your friend?"

"Heck yeah dude! Of course we're friends, you just saved my life, well I also saved your life, we saved each other!," Marcy answered.

Maddie felt warm. She had never had a friend before all the other kids usually tried to steer clear of her.

The moment was cut short.

"HEY I THINK I HEAR IT OVER THERE!," yelled a familiar voice.

Maddie gasped in terror.

"The mob! Marcy you've gotta hide!," the young frog said, panicked.

No questions asked, the human jumped into a nearby bush.

Suddenly dozens of frogs appeared brandishing

Pitchforks, torches, and whatever else they could get their hands on.

"Well, if it ain't little miss Madeline Flour.," said a sleazy looking overweight toad.

"Well if it ain't good-for-nothing crook, Mayor Toadstool.," Maddie replied.

Toadstool's face turned red with anger and he looked like he was about to snap at Maddie but he couldn't do that yelling at a child no matter how creepy they were would definitely hurt his image.

"Where's the beast?," asked a pink frog who was about Maddie's age.

"A beast? There's no beast, what fool told you that load of snail crap?," Maddie replied snarkily.

"Wally did.," the pink frog said.

"Why the frog would you believe Wally? When has what he's said ever not been a huge waste of everyone's time?," Maddie said.

"Hey!," Wally said, offended.

"Well she does have a point sir.," a small frog said to the mayor.

"Yeah. In fact we should run Wally out of town!," the toad exclaimed.

"Let's not do anything rash here.," Wally said nervously.

"GET HIM!," yelled Toadstool.

Wally then started running with townsfolk not far behind.

Maddie left another piece of bread on the ground before running off to join the mob.

Maddie smiled not a creepy twisted smile but a genuine one. A genuine smile was usually rare to see from her but today she had a reason to smile.

What was that reason? She had made a friend.
