It happened at a birthday party where Tony got invited to two weeks after the incident at the pool, he texted Sydney.
Hey beautiful, there's a party at Rachel's, you're coming with me. I'll pick you up in ten
The brunette glared at her phone, she remembered what had happened when she tried to leave the closet where it all began… Tony pushed her against the wall.
-OK, here's how it'll go… from now on you're my girlfriend… you'll do as I say when I say.
-Wait a minute, that's ri
A slap cut her midword, shocked and scared Sydney began to hyperventilate until he made her look at him.
-That's how it will be… OK?
Scared, the teenager only nodded. That was why that day she only got a dress out of her closet and made her hair in a ponytail. She was about to leave when her Dad saw her.
-Where are you going?
-I… I… to… to the mall… to get… school supplies…
Sydney closed her eyes and tried not to cry as she closed the door, lying to her father was something she hated with all her heart. As they got to the party Tony handed her a red cup.
-Wait… this is…
-We're here to have fun, drink it.
Two hours later Sidney was fixing her dress in one of the rooms while Tony glared at her.
-do we have to do this everytime we meet?
-you're my girlfriend…
Sydney cleared the tears from her eyes.
-That doesn't mean you can use me anytime you want for… THAT.
Tony got up from the bed, glared at her and punched her without a care in the world.
-You're my girlfriend and you'll do as I say. Do you understand me?
Scared Sydney nodded. As she got home she went straight to the shower and then to bed. The next morning Judy was making breakfast when Sydney popped in the kitchen. Although the teenager thought that she had hidden the black eye she had with makeup, that was something that for the seasoned eye of Judy Reynolds, was impossible to miss
-What happened to your eye? - she asked
The teenager dropped the fork with which she was trying to eat
-w… what?
The elder woman sat before her granddaughter.
-Sidney do you see this white hair? It means I've lived a long time and know a lot of things, and seeing a black eye covered with makeup is something I can see a mile away, so, spit it out, what happened?
Thinking quickly Sydney came up with an excuse.
-Olive hit me with her locker door yesterday… It was an accident.
Judy glared at her and remained silent while they ate. Sydney got up and after taking her backpack went to school. There Olive also noticed the makeup covering her blackeye
-Sydney what happened to you? - she asked concerned
-W… what are you talking about?
Taking a napkin out of her purse Olive carefully passed it over Sydney's eye and showed her the makeup.
-This. What happened to your face?
-I… hit myself with my bass last night…
-How did you hit yourself with a bass?
-I just did OK? Stop asking me things.
Olive watched her best friend walk to their next class with disbelief in her face. Later that afternoon Sydney laid on Tony's bed, tears running down her face as she curled and saw her clothes on the floor.
-You're getting real good at this my love…
-Can I go home now please…
-My parents won't come back until tomorrow… you could stay the night…
Sydney's eyes opened wide
-NO!
He pulled her by her arm making her wince in pain.
-you… are… staying… the… night.
Covering herself with the blanket Sydney sat and dialed her dad's number.
-Hi Dad… I… I… um… staying with Olive… so… I'll be home tomorrow… after school…
Almost crying, she hung up.
-there…
Without a word he pulled her back down and started to kiss her. What she couldn't prevent was what was about to happen in her house.
-I'll get it! - Max said as he ran to the door.
He was surprised to see Olive standing there with a smile.
-Hi Mr. Reynolds! I came to see Sydney, I brought this cream that
-Wait… wasn't she at your house? Staying the night?
Olive's eyes opened as wide as they could, realizing that she had blown her best friend's cover… that she wasn't even aware of.
-I… I…
Present time.
Sydney laid in her bed, her phone's battery already dead after the countless calls from Olive and her other friends, all desperate and worried about her.
-it's over… it's all over…
Suddenly she was startled when someone banged at her door.
-SYDNEY OPEN UP! IT'S ME OLIVE!
-leave me alone…
Sydney closed her eyes as the banging and the pleas stopped. But if she thought Olive was easy to shrug off she had another thing coming. She screamed as a burst of blond hair came through her window.
-OLIVE!
The teenager got up hyperventilating.
-You're my best friend and… I'm not leaving until you tell me what's wrong.
Sydney sat on the bed and placed the plastic object on her table, curious Olive walked towards it until she realized not only what it was but also the meaning of what was displayed on its screen…
