Note from author: sorry for the delay, I was moving to a new home and had little to no time to write.
Sydney was having a hard time coping with her pregnancy, at eight months her belly had grown quite a lot and despite the continuous help of Emmy, Sophia and of course Olive, she barely left her home. Especially after suffering an embarrassing accident in the mall when a very natural need came on and she was too far from the nearest bathroom. Not even with Grandma Judy explaining to her that such things were common and that she wasn't the first mother-to-be to have suffered them nor the last.
-Grandma I peed on myself like a three year old! - Sydney complained
-Sydney you're almost due and the baby presses a lot on your bladder, it happens to a lot of women all over the world, it has happened and it will happen again to many others.
-I would rather stay home…
Olive held her hands.
-It's OK Syd… I read about this and this happens more than you think.
The blond noticed the tears running down her best friend's cheeks and hugged her as she sobbed silently. Judy signaled to her that she was going to the kitchen to get some tea. The following day, as the girls were doing homework, Judy's cell rang, she was surprised to see that it was Dr. Whitewater, Sidney's obstetrician, following a hunch she decided to answer in the kitchen.
-Dr. Whitewater? This is Judy Reynolds… w… what? But… is it true? Wow… but why not tell her? I see… sure…
Later that night Judy was on her way to the kitchen when she felt a sweet smell coming from it, she was surprised to see Olive cooking.
-Olive? What are you doing?
-Sydney is asleep so I want to surprise her with fried bananas, my mom showed me how to do it.
-Wow… I didn't know you were into cooking.
-I don't do it much, but I want to surprise Syd since she likes sweets so much. - the blond replied
Although the elder woman smiled, she was still wondering about the words of Dr. Whitewater that afternoon. She couldn't help but wonder if was doing OK by keeping what she now knew from her granddaughter.
The following morning she sat on Sydney's bed and caressed her hair to wake her up.
-I want to stay in bed… I barely slept last night…
-I'll give you another half hour and then up you go, we have work to do before your amigas arrive.
-Thank you grandma - the brunette replied with a yawn
As she got down she saw her son sitting on the couch glaring at an old photo album with pictures of him holding a baby Sydney in his arms.
-Dr. Whitewater called me yesterday - Judy said
-You know I don't want to hear anything about that. - Max replied
Judy sat beside him
-Again, she's your daughter.
Max closed the album
-What was my mistake mom? Was it because I couldn't be as close to her as I could have because I'm her dad and not her mom?
-Max, you have been an incredible father, I don't see where you could have gone wrong.
-Then why is this happening? Why did she get into all of this?
-Max, this kind of thing happens no matter what we as parents do.
-Mom what if Sydney doesn't make it?
Judy was about to open her mouth when they were both startled with the noise of dishes breaking.
-OLIVE! - screamed Judy
The blond was standing mid-stairs with her eyes wide open, her hands trembling and what used to be a plate and a glass.
-w… what? Sydney what?
Judy held her hands and took her to the couch while Max cleaned the debris. There the elder woman explained the real situation to the teenager, to say that Olive was terrified was an overstatement.
-but… she can't die… she… no…
-Olive… Olive look at me. Under no circumstance can you tell Sydney anything about this OK?
With tears in her eyes the blond girl nodded. Judy felt her tighten the hold she hand on her hands.
-We're going to do our best for her, right Grandma J?
-Absolutely Olive.
And those words couldn't be more accurate because exactly a month after that conversation and as Sydney sat in her bed she immediately realized that something was starting to wet everything between her legs.
-GRANDMA!
Judy walked in and mistook the situation.
-Noodle it's OK, we already talked about this, it's a natural occu
-GRANDMA IT'S… IT'S HAPPENING!
Judy went pale and within a minute she had the bag they had ready for that day while taking Sydney to the car. On the way she called Max at the bike store while Sydney texted the amigas about it. Dr. Whitewater was also notified, as they arrived she was already there getting an operations room ready. She had already decided that a C-section was the best way to go. As she held the hands of her Granddaughter for the first time Judy Reynolds felt herself breaking up.
-Grandma, it's going to be OK. We already went over this… you know what to do if
-Don't say it, you'll be OK…
The elder woman held herself as she saw her being taken away. Dr. Whitewater walked out the moment Max arrived.
-I want to assure you both that we have a team ready and we will do all in our power to make sure that Sydney and her babies make it out OK.
Max's eyes opened wide.
-Wait… babies?
-Max… Sydney is having twins. - Judy said
-¡¿?!
