A month had passed and it was now August of 1863. Stefan and Abby's relationship was now official and both Guissepe Salvatore and Jonathon Gilbert were satisfied that their children were in love and as happy as could be. It was a Sunday around 11 am as Cassidy Salvatore made her way downstairs where her husband was. She took a deep breath before walking into the parlor where Damon was.

"Damon," she said somewhat quietly. He was looking through the various books on the shelves and when he heard her voice, he turned to face her and he smiled. "What's wrong?" he said, concerned. Cass was shaking slightly and seemed very nervous. He walked over and embraced his wife, smiling. "Cass, what's wrong?" She just smiled and shook her head, "Nothing is wrong, actually the very opposite." She kept looking at their feet, not daring to meet his eyes. "Damon, I'm," she took a deep breath and smiled before looking up into his blue eyes that she adored. She continued, "Damon, I'm pregnant."

The room became completely silent. Damon just looked at her for what seemed to be hours but only a few seconds passed. "What?" He said somewhat whispering. She smiled and started to tear up, "You heard me, Damon I'm going to have your baby; we're going to be parents." He just smiled and hugged her tightly, laughing softly. He looked into her eyes and kissed her softly. "This is amazing," he said.

She just looked up at him with a slightly worried look on her face, "Are you sure you're happy? It's just so out of the blue and unexpected…" her thoughts started to trail off and he held her face once more. "Cass," he started, his smile growing wider, "I'm so happy we're going to start a family, I couldn't be happier." She laughed and hugged him tightly, resting her head on his shoulder. She kissed him once more before exclaiming, "We have to tell our fathers and Stefan and Abby! There's so much to think about!" He just laughed at her excitement and looked at her lovingly as she walked out of the room.

The next night Cassidy and Damon hosted a dinner party for their families and shared with them their wonderful news. Everyone was extremely excited for them and they couldn't wait for the new addition to the family. That night while Cass and Damon were lying in bed, Cass looked at Damon and said simply, "I love you." He just looked at her and smiled replying, "I love you too." She turned to her back and looked up at the ceiling, "Can you believe that we've known each other since we were ten?"

He turned to look at her and he just gazed at her. She turned to face him and said, "If it's a boy, what do you think his name should be?" Damon thought for a moment before he replied, "Daniel, after your grandfather." She nodded and said, "I think that's a lovely idea." "What if the baby is a girl?" he asked. Cassidy thought for a moment before replying, "Emma, after your grandmother." He smiled and kissed her forehead, "Sounds like a plan."

After that, the couple slowly drifted off into sleep.

It was December 10th, 1863: Abby's 17th birthday. A party was held for her in the vast backyard of her home. There was food, music and plenty of dancing. Cassidy, Damon, Abigail, and Stefan were all sitting at a table talking. Cass was around six months pregnant and absolutely beaming with joy. "I can't believe you're seventeen," Damon said looking at the girl who was like a younger sister to him. "And I can't believe you guys are going to be parents! And I'm going to be an aunt!" Abby replied.

The four of them just started laughing. "It's crazy to think we've known each other our whole lives, it seemed to go by so fast," Stefan said. "I know, I'm going to be a mom soon but next thing you know I too will be an aunt!" Cass said with a smirk on her face. Stefan just choked on his water and Abby's face turned bright red. Damon and Cass started laughing and Abby said, "Come on you two it's my birthday."

Damon just laughed and replied, "We know, we know and anyways we should be talking about the two of you getting married first." Stefan just sighed at the embarrassment their siblings were putting them through and grabbed Abby's hand. Her face was completely red as they stood up, "Let's go dance," he said, trying to get them as far away from their siblings. Damon and Cass just laughed at their awkwardness.

As Stefan and Abby walked to the dance floor, Cass rested her head on Damon's shoulder, kissing his cheek. Abby rested her head on Stefan's shoulder as they swayed to the soft music that played in the background. She turned her head into Stefan's neck mumbling, "Sometimes Cass and Damon put us through utter torment." He just laughed and gently rubbed her back, "Yea, but they get a real kick out of it." Abby just smiled and looked up at Stefan, giving him a quick kiss.

He looked down into her eyes and pushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear, "Come on, I have your birthday present to give to you." "Stefan, I told you that you didn't need to get me anything!" He just laughed and said, "Come on," dragging her away from the party. They went over to the side of the house where it was dimly lit and the soft music and voices of the people were barely heard. He grabbed a little box from his pocket and said, "My father gave this to my mother when they were younger and before she died, she gave it to me," he said nervously. He opened the box and there was a beautiful silver ring with a small opal stone.

She gasped softly and looked up into his eyes, "Stefan, it's beautiful." He smiled and continued, "I just want you to have it as a promise, because Abby, I know that we're going to spend the rest of our lives together because I know I could ever love another woman as much as I love you. I can't even think about spending my life with any other person but you." He slipped the ring onto her ring finger. She started to cry and hugged him tightly, "Thank you Stefan, I love it." They separated and he whipped her tears and kissed her, "Happy birthday," he said quietly.

January

In Georgia, a woman named Grace Williams sat in a beautifully furnished living room. Her best friend for the past century, Katherine Pierce waltzed in. "Grace, I have an amazing plan!" She exclaimed. Grace laughed and looked at her friend with a questioning look, "And what would that be?" She asked. Katherine sat down across from her friend and started to explain, "You recall how we went to Mystic Falls, Virginia a few weeks ago?"

Grace laughed and said, "Yes I remember." Katherine continued, "And do you remember the gorgeous man we saw at the side of the road?" Grace nodded confused, wondering where her friend was going with all of this. "Well I did some digging," Ms. Pierce continued, "And I found out that his name is Stefan Salvatore and that he has a gorgeous older brother named Damon Salvatore. Grace, when I saw him there was something about him that I just can't explain and that's when I decided that we needed to be together."

Grace just stayed quiet with furrowed eyebrows as her friend continued. Katherine sighed and said, "But when I did my digging I found out that Damon is married and his wife is pregnant. But Stefan is also "in love" with Damon's wife's younger sister. The two of them are promised to one another or something like that." Katherine shook her head in disgust and said, "So I'm going to come up with a devilishly amazing plan and you are going to be a part of it."

Grace just nodded and replied, "So this plan, it's so you and this Stefan guy can be together?" Katherine pursed her lips and nodded replying, "Well yes but I also wouldn't mind having his brother too." Grace gasped and started to laugh, "What a minx!" The two of them laughed and laughed and Katherine went on to explain her plan.

On January 15th, in the early hours of the morning, Daniel James Salvatore was born. He was born two months early in the home of Cassidy and Damon Salvatore. Dr. Fell along with two midwives delivered him. Daniel James was examined by the doctor and even though he was born premature, the doctor deemed him very healthy.

Later in the day, but still in the morning, Cassidy Salvatore held her baby in her arms as he slept. Damon, who was sitting next to her on the bed, just smiled at her. "You need to get both of our dads and Abby and Stefan over here," she said in a hushed voice. He nodded and smiled. He got up, kissed his wife and newborn son on their foreheads then walked out of the house to retrieve the rest of his family.

Both Cassidy and Damon's fathers came over to meet their grandson and after they left, Abby and Stefan came over. Damon and Cass were both sitting in bed and Damon was holding Daniel. Abby and Stefan walked into the room with smiles on their faces. "Oh Cass, he's gorgeous!" Abby beamed. "Can I hold him?" she asked in a soft voice.

Cass smiled and nodded and Damon handed his son to Abby, "Be careful Abby, support his head," Cass said, almost cringing with nervousness. Damon just patted her back and observed Abby holding Daniel. "He's so tiny, just like a little doll," she said, smiling at the parents. Stefan smiled and stood next to Abby who was swaying Daniel gently back and forth.

"Cass, can I keep him?" Abby said, smiling. Cassidy and Damon just laughed and Cass replied, "Why don't you two just make your own baby?" Damon laughed out loud and Abby's face turned bright red. "Shut up Cass," Abby said embarrassed. Cass just laughed and Abby looked at Stefan, "Do you want to hold your nephew?" "Sure," Stefan replied smiling. Abby transferred the baby carefully into Stefan's arms.

As soon as the baby was in Stefan's arms he squirmed out of his blanket and held one of his arms up. "Oh god, did I break him?" Stefan asked. Damon just laughed and Cass replied, "No you're fine Stefan." "Here maybe you should take him," Stefan said, handing the baby to his older brother, "I don't think he likes me," he continued. Damon just smirked and said, "He's only a few hours old. How could he not like you?" Stefan just shrugged as a response.

The four talked for a while before Stefan and Abby left to leave the new parents with their child. "Is Daniel's room already?" Cass asked her husband. He nodded and replied, "Yea Stefan and I finished it a couple of weeks ago even though we didn't think he'd be here this early." Cass smiled and kissed her baby on the forehead before handing him to Damon and getting up out of bed.

"I'm going to take a bath and change my clothes, I feel absolutely disgusting," Cass said walking towards their bathroom. Damon just looked at her and replied, "You look beautiful." She just smiled and kissed her husband before walking away. "I'll go put him in his crib," Damon said before his wife disappeared to take a bath.

Damon set his son in his crib and just stood there and watched him for a while before walking back to his bedroom. Cass came out of the bathroom all cleaned up and dressed in a new dress. "I feel much better!" she exclaimed happily. She fell onto the bed next to Damon and smiled at him. "We have a son," she said quietly, looking into his blue eyes she loved so much.

"We do," he said, "And because of that, I told my father that I'm staying. I can't go back into the war and leave you with our son here. I just can't." Cass sat up and looked at him with earnest eyes, "Are you serious? You're really staying home? For good?" He sat up and nodded and she threw her arms around him.

He laughed and held her face giving her a kiss. He tucked a lock of hair behind her ear before he said, "I love you so much, Cass." She smiled and kissed him before replying, "I love you too."
