"If you don't want to come back then don't. No one's forcing you to. People are revolting down there, blaming each other. It's impossible to tell who's thinking what and the publishers have been on the phone demanding to know what's going on," Damon said after a minute. Jess took out her phone and asked for the web address. Stefan gave it to her and she flicked through the site. "We need actual proof apparently. The publishers don't want to be sued if the culprit at some point gains their memory back and tries to sue them," he sighed angrily as he turned to his brother and said "I knew this was a bad idea, I don't know why you let me talk you into it."

Jess clicked on the blogger's profile, the image was of a rainbow flag, which narrowed it down slightly but not enough. She read the post again, the descriptions, a comment about Essex girls.. "It's Mel." Both pairs of eyes turned towards her in surprise. "She's in a room on her own as her roommate didn't turn up and the stuff she's posted is everything I discussed with her and Holly." Stefan opened his mouth to tell her to be cautious, but Damon got up and announced that the only way to find out was to search her room.

"Don't you need a key card?" Jess asked, but Damon waved his in the air as they walked along the corridor. "This one will open any room in the building." Stefan took a deep breath and looked as though he were trying to count to ten. "I'm going to presume there's a perfectly innocent explanation and that you're not breaking the agreement we signed."

"I am not breaking the agreement we signed. I told you I promised not to bite anyone at the convention and I haven't." Stefan was left looking furious but said nothing as they walked into her room. While Stefan searched the desk in the room and Damon went through her case, Jess was left to search wherever else she thought Mel might hide stuff. She went through her make up case without success and then as she tried to think where else, she found herself looking at the bed.

Of course! She ran over and felt under the pillow, nothing. So she threw the covers back and found a Macbook. They came over and Stefan bemoaned the fact it had no password. Damon was all for dragging her back up to the room, but Jess was already in. "Does witness protection teach you how to hack computers as well?" asked Damon.

"No. But a couple of friends of mine at Uni have these and they do this when they forget their passwords so they can reset it," she sighed. "Here." She handed the Macbook to a surprised Damon. "Why don't you look through this so I can finish my packing?" With that she got up and walked off.

Five minutes later there was a tentative knock and Stefan came in. "Things are being handled downstairs. Everyone has been influenced to forget about Mel and Mel has been influenced to forget about the weekend entirely. How are you getting home?" Stefan asked, "public transport again?"

"Well. Yeah." Jess didn't understand the question, of course she was going home by public transport. As a rule, there was no parking in London and the congestion charge to drive around Central London was exorbitant anyway. Plus, it was a lot faster to use the Tube. "I'm going to arrange a car to take you home. It's too late for you to go back on your own." There was another knock at the door and Stefan went to open it much to her dismay. It figured that it should be Elena who came in to see how she was.

"Are you sure you won't come back down? I don't know what you said to Damon, but he seems very contrite about the whole thing." Stefan laughed and winked at Jess who suddenly felt ashamed for losing her temper. "She gave as good as got. Jess is going home so I told her that I'd organise a car to take her home. If you finish packing your stuff I'll be outside so I can take your bag down to the car. I insist." Jess sighed and thanked Stefan.

Elena came forward and gave her a brief hug goodbye before they both walked out, leaving her to finish packing. Finally she opened the door and found Stefan and Elena talking. "Ready? Got everything?" Stefan went in to get her bag and Elena grinned at her awkwardness.

"I know, it takes some getting used to. But I do have something for you to carry, here." She gave Jess a black tote bag with The Vampire Diaries written in large lettering, half white and half red. "The publishers have one for everyone. You've got a journal, quill pen, bookmark and a couple of other bits that are a bit typical. Sorry."

"I'm alright with this. I've got another bag to my accidental collection." Elena laughed and Stefan who was walking past muttered that it must be a female thing as Elena had one as well, which made Jess laugh briefly. "Thank you. It was nice to meet all of you." They hugged briefly and she joined Stefan in the lift.

"You can give me that as well."

"I've got to carry something! I feel lost otherwise!" Jess protested. Stefan decided that it wasn't worth the fight and came up to the reception desk with her as she handed her key card back in. "We have some post for you as well. I'll just go get it," said the receptionist cheerfully. Jess was confused and told Stefan that she didn't know who was sending her stuff as no one knew where she was. He put her bag down and told her to step back.

The receptionist came out with a brown bubble envelope and Stefan relaxed immediately when he saw it. He turned to Jess and told her it was his brother's handwriting and she should open it. Her face went from confused to amazement and then to guilt and worry all at once. Stefan laughed gently. "It's that book from the library isn't it?" Jess pulled it gently from the envelope to get a better look at it and then put it back as quickly as she dared. "I didn't see anything, okay? Just promise me it won't end up on Ebay."

She didn't mean to, but the thought horrified her so much that it must have translated on her face. Stefan just burst out laughing and apologised for even suggesting such a thing as she put it in her bag. "Your car's here." She went to grab her rucksack but he swung it away from her with ease. "I'll take it out," he grinned and strode towards the door of the hotel as his brother came in.

To Jess' surprise he handed her bag to his brother. "He wanted to make sure you got home safely," Stefan said with a sly smile. "Take care and good luck with your degree. I want to read about a prominent historian who describes Cromwell as an utter moron one day." There was a snort of amusement behind him, but Stefan didn't even glance it's way. "Thank you and thank you for looking after me."

"My pleasure." He stepped forward and gave her a brief hug before Damon stepped in.

"Won't they be missing you at the party brother?" Stefan rolled his eyes at Jess and walked off leaving her with Damon.
