RRTAB: Read, Review, and Tell A Buddy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Sailor Moon!
Usagi arrived in the park a little before nine. She looked around. Tuxedo Kamen had yet to arrive. She sat on a nearby bench. She looked at the stars, silently thanking Mamoru for making this happen.
The warm night air suddenly surrounded her in wind, carrying with it the scent of roses and coffee. His, she remembered from the time he carried her, scent. She looked around but did not see the person of her affection.
Tuxedo Kamen jumped from a tree and landed gracefully in front of Usagi, eliciting a gasp from her. "Did I frighten you?" he asked.
Usagi smiled and shook her head. "You came. I was starting to worry."
He chuckled and sat on the bench beside her. "I was happily surprised when Mamoru said you wanted to see me. Does this meeting mean that my feelings are not unrequited after all?"
"Honestly," Usagi looked at him with a blush and a shrug, "I don't know what this meeting means. I've only met you once before this and yet every second I'm near you, my heart beats faster and faster. My stomach turns. I get scared at the thought of you leaving. And I know it's not normal." She paused and looked at him with wide eyes. "Is that love?"
Tuxedo Kamen didn't answer her. He instead sat in silence, taking in every word she said. To hear that even without her memories her heartbeat still quickened at the thought of him was almost overwhelming. Usagi grew impatient. "Tuxedo Kamen? Hello? Is anyone ther—."
Tuxedo Kamen silenced her with a quick kiss. He pulled away slightly. He could feel her breath on his face and fought the urge to kiss her again. His eyes widened, shocked by his own actions. He inwardly panicked. What he did just do? "I'm sorry," he said pathetically. "I-I couldn't help myself." He quieted and waited apprehensively from her reply. He flinched when she finally moved, half-expecting to be slapped.
She looked away, silently hoping that the darkness would conceal her blushing features like the night before. "That was my first kiss," she said softly.
Tuxedo Kamen wanted nothing more than object. He wanted to tell her how they shared countless wonderful kisses before. He wanted to hold her tightly and urge her to remember the past they shared together. He only sighed. "I'm sorry."
Usagi shook her head. "Don't be," she said. "I-I didn't mind, I mean. It's okay." The two sat in awkward silence. She broke it with a mumble, "Again…"
"What was that?"
It was Usagi turn to kiss him. He was caught by surprise at first but returned the kiss. When they separated, Tuxedo Kamen couldn't help the light smile on his face. The thoughts that circled in his head were similar to those of a schoolgirl in love. She kissed me. She kissed me.
She cleared her throat and looked everywhere but at him. "I guess it's my turn to be sorry," she said softly.
He chuckled softly and took her small hand in his. "You don't know how long I've waited for today." His mouth had a mind of his own. "You don't know how long I've waited to hold you again. My Usako."
A pain struck Usagi's head. She winced at his words. It was as if the pain was trying to distract her so she would not process what he was saying. "My head," she pulled her hands from his to grip her head. "It hurts."
"What?" He looked at her wincing form. Then he understood. The Silver Crystal was preventing her memories from coming back. It would probably continue to do so until she was in dire need of Sailor Moon. Even the Silver Crystal thought she was better off without her memories. He sighed and pulled her to him. He could not bear to see the girl he loved in pain. He knew what he had to do. "Please forgive me, Usagi."
"W-what?"
"We can't be together after all," his own words cut him like knifes but it had to be done.
The pain in her head was nothing compared to the pain in her heart at that moment. "Why not?"
"I can't be selfish," he said with a sigh. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He released her and stood. He jumped out of sight, disappearing into the night and leaving her alone on the park bench to cry and wonder why.
Sierra yawned. She kept looking out the window for any sign of her cousin but she could not determine how much longer she could last. "I guess," she chuckled, "the carnival tired me out more than I thought." She felt her eyelids get heavier.
She yawned again and laid her head on the windowsill. She allowed her eyes to closed and allowed her mind to wander.
In her dream, Sierra was in Peru again. She sat in her old room, reading a book. "Sierra!" someone called. The sounds in her dream were warped, almost distant.
Keisuke walked through the door with an urgent look on his face. Sierra frowned. "What's wrong, Keisuke?"
"Danger," Keisuke said slowly. "Danger."
"Danger? What are you talking about?"
"Danger," he said again. "Danger!" His loud grew louder, more demonic. "Danger! Danger!"
"…Sierra!" The girl jerked up with a gasp. She looked around. She was back in her home. Her new home. "Sierra!" The voice that woke her up called again.
She looked down to see her cousin waving for her attention on the porch below. "Open the door!" Usagi called in a hushed tone.
Sierra nodded. "I'm on my way," she replied. She left her post at the windowsill and walked quickly through the room. She walked downstairs sneakily and quietly but stopped when she saw the flash of the living room's television. "I thought everyone was in bed!" she said to herself in panic. How would she open the door without attracting attention to herself?
She peeked around the corner to see exactly whom she was dealing with and let out a sigh of relief. It was Kenji, who would freak out the most if he saw his daughter coming into the house at this time. Luckily for Sierra and Usagi, he was asleep in front the television. Sierra tiptoed past the room and to the door. She opened it carefully, wincing at the squeaking noise it made as she opened the door. "Come on in," she whispered.
Usagi nodded and stepped through the door. She sniffled, "Thank you," she whispered.
In the light of the house, Sierra saw that her cousin's eyes were puffy and her cheeks were red from crying. She frowned. What happened between her and Mamoru. Sierra closed the door softly and locked it. She took Usagi's hand in her and pulled her upstairs.
Sierra led the way to Usagi's room and closed the door behind them. "Okay," the older girl said. "What happened?"
"I'm so stupid, Sierra," Usagi sniffled. With that, she let her tears fall freely.
Sierra pulled her cousin to her and allowed her to cry on her shoulder. She rubbed the girl's back and soothed her. "What did he do?" She found herself getting angry. If Mamoru had taken advantage of her cousin…
"H-he doesn't want me," the blonde said between tears.
Sierra kept holding on to her cousin. She was glad she could not see her confused face. "What are you talking about? I thought he was the one sending the roses," she spoke softly, slightly distracted by the questions floating through her head. Why would Mamoru go to such measures just to reject her? Why would Mamoru reject her in the first place?
"H-he was," Usagi explained. "He kissed me," Sierra eyes widened at this, "and then he said he didn't want to be with me."
Sierra's eyes narrowed from their surprised state. He had taken advantage of her. She'd kill him for making Usagi cry. That is, if Makoto did not kill him first. "It's okay, Usagi," she said. "You don't need him. He's not worth your time." She pulled away from Usagi and reached to her nightstand. She grabbed Usagi's bunny-spotted handkerchief and wiped away her heartbroken cousin's tears. "Don't cry over him."
Usagi sniffled and nodded. "I won't," she promised. "Thank you, Sierra."
Tuxedo Kamen jumped onto his balcony and released his transformation. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He stepped through his open apartment door and dropped himself onto his sofa. He let out another frustrated sigh. He had heard her crying when he left the park. Yet again, he caused the girl he loved to cry. He was tired of that.
Luna jumped onto his stomach and curling up. From his behavior, she could tell that the meeting had not gone as smoothly as he had hope. There was nothing to say. She knew what he was going through. She missed Usagi too.
He petted her head and let out another sigh. "I made her cry," he reported. "Again." The cat opted to say nothing so Mamoru continued. "The Silver Crystal is blocking her memories from coming back. Every time something tries to remind her, she will get a headache. A headache that is so painful, I can feel it. Being with me would be a constant reminder of the life she had before. She'll always be in pain."
"You mean being with Tuxedo Kamen," Luna finally spoke.
"What?"
"Tuxedo Kamen will always remind her," the black cat explained. "Mamoru Chiba is normal guy who won't remind her of anything."
"You mean we can be together as long as she doesn't know who I am?" Luna nodded. Mamoru smiled. He still had a chance.
The next Monday, Sierra and Usagi walked to school together. They entered the classroom and took their seats. An greeted them with a smile. "Hey," she said. "I heard you and my brother had a good time on Saturday."
Sierra nodded. "We did." She glanced at Usagi. The mention of Saturday reminded her of all the events that unfolded and hurt was visibly on her face. Sierra decided to change the subject, "Do you want to hang out with us after school?"
An shook her head. "I'm sorry," she said. "I can't. There's still a lot of unpacking to do and I already don't have the energy to do it."
"Maybe we could help your unpack," Usagi volunteered.
"That's not a good idea," An immediately shot it down. She quickly formulated an excuse, "Ail gets uncomfortable at the idea of others going through his stuff. I can handle it."
Sierra shrugged and smiled. "Next time, then."
Haruna came into the classroom and closed the door behind her. She commanded the class to open their books a page and started write on the board. She went over a math drill that Usagi did not bother to pay attention to. The blonde tried to focus on the drill in front of her but could not. Her thoughts continued to drift back to him. Tuxedo Kamen. The person that callously ripped out her heart. The person that she could not help loving anyway. She did not like how he plagued her thoughts. She buried her head into her arms and ignored the rest of the lesson.
The bell rang, releasing the students for lunch. An stood reluctantly. She did not want to stay in the classroom but going to the cafeteria seemed so pointless. Unlike her brother, who seemed to assimilate with relative ease, she was still getting used to things. One of those things included human food.
Her vision blurred, reminding her that the last cardigan failed to come back with the energy she desperately needed. She was almost out of energy, out of time. She had to find an energy source and quickly.
Usagi walked up to her. "Come on, An," she said. "The other have already left." She grabbed An's hand.
An gasped. She was not even trying to take energy yet she could feel an overflow of it coming from Usagi. She could only stare at Usagi as she pulled her along. At that moment, she could not see Usagi anymore. She saw pure energy. She saw the energy source that was going to feed hr and the Doom Tree for years to come.
The end of the school day came quickly. Sierra and Usagi walked out of the school together and made their way to Crown Arcade. Unbeknownst to both, An followed close behind. She could not let her food get too far out of sight.
The two walked into the arcade. Usagi sat down first, choosing a seat next to Mamoru. Sierra, who still had a bone to pick with the dark haired man, decided to sit on the other side of him. Mamoru glanced at both sides of him and nervously sipped his coffee. While he did not know why exactly Usagi decided on the seat she choose, Sierra's glared told him exactly why she sat beside him.
"Hey, Odango," Mamoru said, trying his best to ignored Sierra's presence. "What's up?"
Usagi cleared her throat. "I wanted you to tell Tuxedo Kamen something."
"What?"
"That he can't keep me in the dark forever," Usagi said. "And even when I do figure things out, I won't let myself get hurt again. And that he was right. We can't be together after all. Ever." She did not give Mamoru a chance to respond before sliding out of the seat and going to the arcade games.
Mamoru sighed and placed his head in his hand. "I really messed this one up, didn't I?"
"You think?" Sierra said with a cross of her arms. "But I'm not here to talk about your relationship problems."
"Why are you here?"
"To warn you," Sierra said simply. "I didn't appreciate the fact that my cousin was kissed before being dump. At all." She narrowed her eyes. "Sleep with your eyes open, Chiba Mamoru."
"Wait," Mamoru said quickly, knowing that Sierra would do everything in her power to carry out her threat. "I can explain."
Sierra glanced at her cousin, and then gave her attention back to Mamoru. "You have five minutes." Mamoru explained the events in the park and Luna advice as quickly as he could. Sierra wore the same expression on her face throughout the entire explanation. "Let me get this straight," she said when he finished. "You hurt her so she wouldn't get hurt? Mamoru, you're an idiot."
Mamoru sighed. "I know. At least this way, we would be able to be seen together in public. With Tuxedo Kamen out of the way, Chiba Mamoru still has a chance. "
"You are ridiculously stupid." Sierra rolled her eyes and slid out of her seat. "And that is why I hate you," she said before spinning on her heels and joining Usagi at the games.
An watched through the arcade's window. Now, her attention was not on Usagi. She could not help herself. She was staring at the man that still sat at the counter. "Mine," she hissed. With hunger and lust fueling her, she could no longer think like a human. All she knew was what she wanted. Food. Mate. She knew she would have both soon enough. She teleported away to find Ail. She needed a new cardigan.
