This actually just happened…I heard the song and well…No one hate me…It's soulmate based but it just…I don't know just happened and right before I go to bed too! In case anyone is interested in the music which inspired this it's the Council of Elrond, from the album Sail away by the Taliesin Orchestra. I own nothing here. Warnings, fluff, angst and two males in love.
Soul song
Sportacus had only been living in Lazy town for just under a year when it happened to him for the first time. Sportacus woke suddenly from his peaceful slumber, he quickly realises what had woken him, it was music. The music was unlike any kind which Sportacus has ever heard before, it was inhuman and beautiful at the same time and filled his airship.
This beautiful music is accompanied by an exquisite male voice, which it is achingly calling out in song. It takes the still slightly sleepy Sportacus a few moments to realise that there are no words to the song just ahs, ohs and ums and that he can hear both the song and the music clearly in the airship despite the fact there is no one there to be doing the singing.
The voice and the music throbs around him, it makes his insides throb too while at the same time his hearts squeezed almost painfully in his chest. The music and song made Sportacus want to get up, it makes him feel like there is somewhere he is supposed to be, someone he is supposed to be going to right now.
Sportacus has never heard anything like this singing and music in his life before, it's just so beautiful, so achingly lonely, but so glorious. He gets up slowly, Sportacus is half way to the ship's door when the music and the voice fades away into silence, despite this that desire to find that singer is still painfully there and for the very first time in his life Sportacus considers the fact he may well have a soulmate, because that had to be a singing of the soul song.
He's heard about it from other elves, it was rare for an elf to have a soulmate but it did happen. The singing of the soul or the soul song as it was more often called, was sung by the elder of the pair of elves, it was a compulsion for them, they simply had to perform yearly in the hope they could call their soulmate to them with their song.
Usually, the soul song could only be heard by the soulmate when they where close to where the elder of the two elves lived. Sportacus hadn't realised that this meant he would hear the music and song in the way he had tonight, but it made a lot of sense that the magic would work in this way as it meant that only he would hear this song.
Sportacus had always assumed that like so many of his kind he was without a soulmate, but that it appeared was not the case, it left him wondering if there was another elf secretly living in Lazy Town and if so, who it was.
Sportacus wondered how many years his soulmate had been singing for him, considering the time of night he chose to sing and his own eight o eight curfew for himself, it more than likely meant that his poor soulmate would have been singing for him for many years now. Sportacus knew that his soulmate might have spent many more years singing his soul song without an answer from him if he had not found his way to Lazy Town and been woken up on this night by his song.
The song had left within him a deep ache inside, his heart hurt in a way it had never done before, the need to find his soulmate remained very prominent and Sportacus wasn't at all sure how long it would be before these odd new feelings released him once more.
Sportacus knew that asking the towns folk about the music and song would be pointless. After all it was a magical thing which no human would be able to hear, they wouldn't even see his soulmate out there performing, nor would they see him when he found his way to his soulmate.
The reason for this was because such important situations as this were wreathed in great and old magic in order to protect the elves from humans and other magical beings who might unwittingly or purposely try to stop or interfere in what was occurring.
Now the soul song was over Sportacus made his way back to bed, deciding that this was a puzzle which he could solve in the morning, however Sportacus was never really permitted time to think over what had happened that night because of all his duties as the hero of Lazy town. Alongside this was also the fact that whoever that singer was, they never sang again or at least never in the same way as before for the rest of that year.
The second year on the same date as the year before Sportacus woke again, it was dark, but Sportacus felt sure that he had woken up earlier in the night than he had the year before. Sure enough the voice and the music was back, pulsing, pleading, yearning and pulling at him incessantly, even his crystal was glowing this time.
This time he was determined that he was not going to lay there or hesitate to do anything, quickly Sportacus dove up from the bed, he hastily made his way across the airship to the door, calling out much more softly than usual. "Door."
The door opened quietly for once and Sportacus made his way outside. "Telescope." He called in a soft voice and it instantly came sailing out of the ship into his hand.
Hastily he put the eye piece to his eye and looked around town for his soulmate. It didn't take him long to spot figure, they were bathed in the light of the full moon, yet Sportacus couldn't see anything of his soulmate because whoever this tall figure was, they were hidden away in a floor length, black hooded cloak, they stood with their back to him and the hood up.
Then long, slender, pail hands reached up towards the moon in a yearning motion and his voice called and called in song into the silent night.
This time Sportacus could hear the pain in the voice of the singer as he called out in song for the soulmate he knew he had, but whom had never answered him. All at once he felt his something wet on his cheek, Sportacus pulled the telescope away and touch his cheek only to find tears he had not been aware of shedding there.
Before Sportacus could stop himself, his breath hitched and more tears started to fall down his face. This deep pain which his soulmate clearly felt at not being able to find him, Sportacus could feel as though it where his own. The loneliness of this elf pierced him like an arrow and the yearning to have his soulmate was like a vast whole inside him. Sportacus knew this elf was incomplete without his soulmate and most startlingly he was incomplete without him of all elves.
Sportacus remembered the teasing of the other elves in school that he would never have a soulmate, he was number ten and only slightly above average as a hero and in looks. Who could possibly want him as a soulmate? One bully had cruelly asked him one afternoon and Sportacus had no answer for him, the bully's words had left him feeling hollow inside. He was told by yet another that would never be as lucky as his mother and father to have found soulmates in each other and to get used to being alone for the rest of his life. Yet here in this moment and in this elf's song was the irrefutable evidence that they had all been wrong, so very wrong about him.
Just he managed to stop crying and Sportacus considered going down to face his soulmate for the first time, the song and the music stopped and all fell into silence again.
Quickly Sportacus brough the telescope up and looked back to the spot where his soulmate had been, but whoever his soulmate was they had vanished from where they had been without leaving anything behind them. Despite nothing being physically left behind by his soulmate Sportacus could still feel the depressed emotions of his soulmate rooted deeply inside himself.
He knew from last year that it would take days for him to work off the effects of that sadly sung song. Once more Sportacus was left wondering who this elf was, after all whoever they were, they were doing a very good job of concealing themself from him.
Sportacus felt sure that there was no possible way that his soulmate could be the one person in Lazy Town he desired, the one person he could never confess to. There was just no way that he could be lucky enough to have fate deliver to him his heart's deepest desire as his soulmate.
As always when he thought about him a deep sigh left Sportacus, oh how he wanted him and his heart for his own, but that was something which could never possibly happen. At the same time as he thought this hope refused to leave Sportacus and there was a part of him which pointed out that until he knew who this singer was, he shouldn't abandon all hope that maybe, just maybe the one he had fallen head over heels in love with would be his soulmate.
As Sportacus made his way back inside he realised something, he could at least plan for next year and hopefully be able to present himself to his soulmate that time.
The third year Sportacus waits seated in the pilot's chair of his airship, his leg moving with nervous energy as he waited for the singer and his music to begin again. He has the lights turned down low in the airship just to make sure that his soulmate doesn't realise he is awake…Sportacus knows his soulmate has to sing his soul song each year, but he doesn't want him to be afraid or reluctant to do so just because he appears to be awake.
According to the ships clock which he has showing but on silent it's just after ten at night when the music and the singing begin. Instantly Sportacus is out of the chair, he flies across the ship calling out softly as he does so. "Door!"
Instantly it opens, he calls out again as he goes through the door. "Ladder!"
It descends from the airship and as soon as the ladder is safely in place Sportacus quickly climbs down it. When he is close enough to the ground for it to be safe Sportacus jumped the rest of the way down to the ground. As soon as he landed, Sportacus sets off at a run following the voice and the music through the town.
It doesn't take him long to find the other elf, once again the figure was hidden in a cloak as black as the night itself, the hood is pulled up meaning his face completely concealed, his hands are lifted towards the night sky in a pleading motion as they had been last time.
Sportacus takes a breath, he lifts his own voice, to join that of his soulmate. The voice wavers just momentarily letting Sportacus know he hadn't been expecting another voice to join his in song and this is a fact that makes Sportacus's heart ache inside his chest.
Sportacus wants so very much to go around to the front of him so that he can know who this is, but as he moves forwards, the other elf tenses, but continues to sing. At the same time Sportacus stills in his movements and instead of moving forwards again he lets his own voice fill with his aching need to know who this is and a plea to just trust him.
As the song ends and the music fades, Sportacus lifts one hand out towards him and asks tenderly without touching him. "Who? Who are you?"
There is a sudden choaked sob, then all at once the figure is darting away from him running away into the night. Without hesitation Sportacus gives chase but as soon as he rounds the corner of the building his soulmate has gone behind, he has vanished leaving nothing behind but the memory of that song burned into Sportacus's soul.
The fourth year the song and the music does not come, Sportacus knows why his soulmate knows he is here now, he has no need to sing the song to find him any more and he…he is left with nothing…Just the knowledge that he made his soulmate cry with one single question.
Sportacus curls up on his side on the bed hugging his knees tightly to his chest, a sob bubbles up from within him, then another and another and before he knows it, he is weeping like his heart is breaking inside his chest.
He had one chance to have his soulmate and he ruined it, just as Robbie said he was an annoyance, always making a mess, a stupid, blundering fool who was forever being a nuisance to others. Sportacus knew that he would never know his soulmate now, the other elves had been right about him, he would never…A broken cry came out of him, it sounded loud to his ears and was the last thing Sportacus recalled before darkness enveloped him.
Somewhere deep underground Robbie sat bolt upright in his chair, he winced in pain, it felt like something was clawing at his heart trying to tear it out, he felt that need that overwhelming urge as he had for the longest time, he needed to sing his soul song, he needed to save…Wait save…Robbie's thoughts ground to a halt, then that pain flared again making him wince.
This was bad, whatever it was, it was very bad and he needed to save his soulmate, his Sportacus and the one he loved with all his heart with his soul song and now. He knew didn't have time to hide this time, but he found that he didn't care about that, his soulmate was much more important to him. Robbie raced out of the lair at a speed which would have shocked any of the residence of the town had they seen it.
As soon as he was outside, he quickly made his way to the part of town the airship was floating over. When he arrived there Robbie was out of breath and later than he had been most years, but there was still time before midnight for him to sing and to save his soulmate from whatever had happened to him.
Hastily Robbie drew up his magic he quickly cast it out causing the music to start, then he took a deep breath and began to sing, he sang with all the magic he had, he was singing for a life and Robbie knew it with all of his being.
Lost in the darkness Sportacus could hear something vaguely, it was calling to him, pleading with him, making him want to go back to the waking world.
Despite the pain, Sportacus uncurled slowly, he reached towards that sound, as soon as he did so it became clear, stronger, enveloping him in music and magic, as well as a bright white healing light.
All at once the voice which sung filled his ears, it brought warmth with it but in contrast to this the tone of the singing was filled deep destress and concern for him.
Somehow Sportacus managed to open his eyes, they widened as the song and music of his soulmate reverberated around him, pulsing with warmth, magic and healing. Softly Sportacus managed to sing back a little and weakly stroke his own magic against that of his soulmate in a soft reassuring gesture, instantly he felt happiness and relief that he was alright come through the magic around him in response to his gesture.
As the song started to fade Sportacus desperately sang out and pulled on the magic with yearning, trying to put into what he sang and into the pull on the magic that he wanted them here needed them here, that being without them…It wasn't possible for him anymore, he needed to know who he was and to be beside them.
Before the music and song faded away completely Sportacus felt a gentle nudge of magic which lulled him into a peaceful healing sleep and left him with a strange reassurance that next year he would hear that singing again.
Robbie had been of course shocked to discover that Sportacus was his much desired soulmate, but at the same time thrilled, he had been in love with him for two years now and he had no wish to lose him. He knew that saving him like this meant that he would have to sing again next year and that made Robbie very nervous.
He was unsure what Sportacus would make of having him for a soulmate, after all it would mean that they would marry and be together for the rest of their lives which was a very long time.
All Robbie could do was hope that Sportacus would receive him as his soulmate in a positive way and that this time knowing that the one he loved was his soulmate, made the singing of his soul something to look forwards to next year rather than something to be viewed with dread.
Robbie was so tired from his work, it had been draining to save his soulmate, but as far as he was concerned it was well worth it. Robbie was well aware that using so much magic would put him out of action for at least a week maybe longer, but Sportacus was safe and that was what mattered to him most.
Robbie yawned widely as everything he had just done caught up to him, he stumbled his way back to the lair, somehow Robbie made his way inside, he reached his orange chair, flopped down into it and instantly fell into a deep sleep.
The fifth year, as with the third Sportacus was ready and waiting for his soulmate, this time though he was already on the ground under the airship rather than inside. The airship itself was set up for the night as though he were still inside it and he hoped there for making his soulmate feel less concerned about coming out to sing for him again.
Sportacus was determined that this year there would be no escape from him for his soulmate, he was not going to suffer through losing him again, he would know who this was and stand beside them always as their married partner, after all soulmates were meant to love each other and be together for life.
This time Sportacus had done some more research into the soul song, once the elder elf began to sing, they had to finish and if the younger joined in then they could not escape them until the song was over. There was also the fact that if the younger began to sing the soul song before the elder, then the elder elf could not escape the younger elf at all and would be at their mercy until they were told 'you are free.' by the younger.
The moment the song and music started Sportacus ran through the town until he found him, as he drew close to his soulmate Sportacus started to sing with him.
Slowing from his run Sportacus walked right up behind him this time, he gently placed a hand to his back and felt the other elf stiffen in fear, his soulmates voice wobbled a little. Sportacus gently stroked over his back in what he hoped was a reassuring way for a few moments, before he made his way around to the front of his soulmate.
The cloak was closed around his body concealing it and the hood was lost in shadows making it impossible for Sportacus to see the face of his soulmate. Without hesitation Sportacus lifted his hands towards the hood, the other elf flinched back a little as he did so, but Sportacus smiled softly up into the hood and tried to fill his singing with reassurance.
He took the edges of the hood into his hands and pushed it back, as his soulmate came into view, Sportacus gasped in wonder while at the same time delight and awe chased their way through him. He could hardly believe that fate was blessing him in this way, that the one in his heart was in fact an elf as he was and his soulmate.
Robbie closed his eyes and turned his face away from Sportacus not wanting to see the disappointment in his face. Yet he couldn't stop singing, he heard the hitch in the song and the words of the younger elf fade as he realised who was standing there before him.
When this happened Robbie determinedly held in his pain and his tears from knowing he was not wanted by Sportacus, despite the fact that soulmates were supposed to love each other for life he was clearly a mistake. As the last notes of the song filled the air Robbie mentally got ready to run from him just as he had on the third year.
As soon as the sing finished singing Robbie without looking at Sportacus once again, quickly turned away from him, he pulled the hood back up, opened his eyes and ran away from his soulmate for the second and final time Robbie promised himself.
Robbie did not get far though, he was grabbed firmly from behind, he struggled in the strong grasp of Sportacus, who quickly managed to turn him around and then force him down onto the ground pinning him there quite effectively with his much stronger body.
Despite knowing that Sportacus was much stronger than him and it was impossible to get away from him now, Robbie still struggled with him. "Stop, Robbie, soulmate stop!" Sportacus pleaded, trying to pin him down further without hurting him.
When this had no effect Sportacus called up his magic, he threw back his head and started to sing Robbie's soul song. The moment he did so Robbie shuddered violently under him, he stopped struggling, then Robbie arched up, he whined softly, before sagging back down to the ground and going still under him.
Quickly Sportacus looked down at him, he released Robbie a little, his hands hovering ready to grab him again if need be and when he didn't move Sportacus was relieved that this was working as the books said it would.
Gently Sportacus lifted his head, he pushed the hood back and drank his fill of the other elf, long delicate points tipped Robbie's ears marking out a mountain elf, his black hair was long falling back behind his shoulders and under the cloak. Sportacus knew that his long hair would run to his waist as was common for his species of elf.
As he continued to sing Sportacus gently placed Robbie's head against the ground, then he pushed the cloak open, underneath it Robbie wore not his usual clothing, but black well fitted leather trousers, with matching boots, he also wore a grey silver shirt which shimmered slightly in the light. Sportacus was happy to see that he had been right about the length of Robbie's hair, it fell just to his waist and seeing it was already making his fingers itch to touch the long hair.
Robbie turned his head to one side and closed his eyes refusing to look up at Sportacus, his breathing was coming in small shallow gasps, he knew he couldn't escape, thanks to the soul song his younger soulmate was singing he was effectively now Sportacus's prisoner.
Sportacus slipped a hand under Robbie's head, he turned it gently but firmly up towards him, and despite Robbie refusing to open his eyes and look at him he smiled as he sang. Slowly Sportacus rested his forehead to Robbie's and left it there until he finished the song a few moments later.
The moment he finished singing Robbie opened his eyes and glared up at him. "Let me go!"
"No soulmate…Never again. I've loved you for years Robbie and if you think I'm going to let you go now I know you are mine and mine alone then you are very wrong." Sportacus informed him in an implacable voice.
"You can't keep me like this forever!" Robbie growled at Sportacus.
Sportacus gave him a wide knowing grin. "Oh, I can do just that Robbie, I just have to make sure I don't use that special phrase and you can't escape me. There is a great deal I want to say to you, soulmate and you are going to listen to me."
"Fine tell me." Robbie growls up at him.
Sportacus trapped Robbie's gaze with his and once Robbie held his gaze he spoke. "Firstly, I love you Robbie, I have for some time…I didn't dare to hope or dream that you the one I love would be my soulmate…Now you are…I am not about to pass on what I have been unexpectedly given."
"You love me?" Robbie asked awed, when Sportacus nodded in answer Robbie asked him another question. "You want me to be your soulmate?"
"Oh yes, very much." Sportacus assured him before asking him. "Do you…Do you love me?"
Quickly Robbie nodded. "Yes, I was surprised to realise you where my soulmate…But like you I'd loved you for a long time and didn't think I would be lucky enough to…To…" Robbie stopped for a moment, he blushed, took a deep breath and tried again. "I didn't think that you could ever possibly be mine…You…You…You scared the life out of me last year!" Robbie exclaimed angrily, shooting him an heated glare.
Sportacus leant down, he nuzzled his face into the side of Robbie's neck. "I'm sorry I frightened you and thank you…Thank you for saving me."
"You're welcome. Never scare me like that again!" Robbie told him in a demanding voice.
A small chuckle left Sportacus, he never thought he would see the day when Robbie of all elves was worried about him, but he clearly was. "I shall do my best not to soulmate."
Robbie nodded once and said firmly. "Good."
Slowly Sportacus pulled back, he kept Robbie pinned and locked his blue eyes with his silver and asked softly. "May I kiss you?"
"Yes…" Robbie whispered feeling suddenly breathless.
Gently Sportacus brought his lips to Robbie's they were very soft and he instantly loved the way they felt against his. Robbie hummed softly, he slowly began to kiss back, this felt utterly blissful, he didn't even care that his soulmate was keeping him pinned down any more.
They pair kissed gently for some time, until at last Sportacus pulled back. He smiled down at Robbie as he caught the darkened grey eyes with his once more. "That felt wonderful." Sportacus told him honestly.
Robbie hummed and nodded in agreement. "It certainly did. Again?"
"Um yes." Sportacus agreed, before bringing his lips to Robbie's again.
They both let out a hum of pleasure this time, cautiously Sportacus released one of Robbie's arms and was rewarded by Robbie slowly lifting that arm and putting it around him.
Despite the fact that Robbie was not as strong as himself Sportacus felt safely anchored in place by the long arm curled around him and as though he was protected. For Robbie Sportacus felt just right in his arms, he fitted against his own body in all the right places and Robbie never ever wanted to have to let go of him.
As they broke this second kiss their gazes met once more and Robbie smiled up at him. "I love you, soulmate."
"I love you too…If I allow you freedom will you try to escape me?" Sportacus asked him in a serious voice.
Quickly Robbie shook his head. "I promise I won't try to run away this time."
Trusting him to keep his word Sportacus spoke. "You are free."
As Robbie felt the affects of the song leave him Robbie let out a sigh of relief but didn't try to move from under Sportacus. Cautiously Sportacus released him, he stood up and offered a hand to Robbie. Robbie smiled at him, he accepted the hand and let Sportacus help him up onto his feet.
Once he was on his feet Robbie continued to hold onto Sportacus's hand and said softly. "Well, being your soulmate is going to change a lot of things for me."
"And for me. We can't and shouldn't hurt each other…I'm hoping you want me to stay." Sportacus said to him nervously.
Robbie smiled down at Sportacus. "Idiot elf, of course I want you to stay."
Sportacus let out a breath hadn't even known he had been holding. Robbie reached out, he grabbed hold of Sportacus's sides, Robbie pulled Sportacus against him and wrapped his arms around him. "My soulmate, I don't want you to ever leave my side." Robbie told him simply but honestly.
Sportacus slipped his arms around Robbie and snuggled in close to him, it felt right to lean on Robbie, he knew he could always rely on his soulmate. "I'm so glad you don't want me to leave…The fact you had been trying to for so long had been ripping me up inside…I couldn't work out why…Now I know why soulmate."
"I'm sorry I caused you such pain. I hope in time that I can make it up to you." Robbie said remorsefully, as he continued to hold Sportacus close to him.
Sportacus looked up at him, he could see the pain and sorrow in Robbie's eyes. "I already forgive you. Robbie, you saved me…You saved me when no one else could have…I was so lost in that darkness, if you hadn't sung…If you hadn't worked so hard and healed me…God I just realised I didn't see you for two weeks after that night…Robbie you idiot! How bad was it?"
"Um well…" Robbie began but didn't finish, be blushed and bit his lip nervously.
Sportacus gave Robbie the same look he gave the kids when they had done something he disliked and instantly Robbie could see why they were always so contrite. "How bad Robbie?" Sportacus asked again a dangerously sharp edge to his voice.
"Uh…um…I was basically unconscious for five days…I spent another five half in and out of consciousness and then another four days building back up my strength and magic." The more Robbie explained the louder the growling from Sportacus became and the tighter he clung to him.
"Idiot! You idiot…!" Sportacus half yelled, before shaking his head and then burying it into Robert's chest.
Robbie stroked over his back and said softly. "Saving your life was well worth it."
"Try not to do something like that again, I wouldn't want to lose you." Sportacus told Robbie in an emotional voice.
Robbie gently pulled Sportacus back, he lay a soft kiss to his forehead. "As long as you not in trouble I'll keep that promise, but if you are hurt or in trouble then I cannot keep it, I will want to protect and save you soulmate."
Sportacus gazed up into his serious eyes, he smiled softly and said. "What a pair we make…We don't either of us to be harmed."
"We shall just have to do our best to stay out of trouble…What would you like me to do about being the villain?" Robbie asked him, more than willing to allow Sportacus to be the one to choose what would happen on that front.
"You'll let me decide?" Sportacus asked him awed.
Robbie nodded to Sportacus. "I am."
"Would you object to toning things down a little and eventually retiring?" Sportacus enquired of him after a few moments of thought.
Robbie turned the idea over in his mind and then nodded. "I can work with that. What will you do when I do retire?"
Without hesitating Sportacus answered this question. "I don't think I'll need to leave, there will still be plenty for me to do here, even when you're not plotting and planning the kids cause plenty of trouble for me to deal with. I will however be careful not to get in harm's way myself, as I wouldn't want to distress you."
"Thank you for that. I know being a hero is not a risk free job and never will be, but I'd like you to be as safe as possible while doing your duty to the town." Robbie told him with sincerity.
Sportacus smiled up at him and sis with a smile. "I will do my best and give you permission to cluck over me like a mother hen when we are alone and I am hurt."
"Thank you for that. Now it's late and I know you need sleep, let's get you to bed." Robbie said with a smile of his own.
"Can I sleep in the lair with you tonight? I want to hold you close." Sportacus asked him in a soft but sincere voice.
Robbie's smile grew wider, he nodded to Sportacus. "I'd like that…We can even use my seldom used bed, it's big enough for the two of us."
Before Robbie could change his mind Sportacus grabbed his hand and pulled Robbie along back towards the lair. Robbie didn't fight him, he in fact chuckled and simply allowed the hero to tow him home.
