Shawn's POV
Life has a very funny way of working itself out. The crazy thing about life. You can't really plan for the events that happen. You can plan for most of them but let's be honest, plans don't really work out all the time. I guess that's what makes it exciting huh? Or at least, that's what others say. It's crazy that one event can change everything. One major event. And that's what happened to me.
Orlando, FL
A black 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 with black rims and white racing stripe was driving on a highway at high speeds in Florida with several police cars chasing after him. The man driving that car had an almond-like complexion with a toned body. He had chocolate brown eyes that were glued to the road in front of him and would occasionally look up to what was behind him in his rear view mirror. He had black eyebrows with a few scars in his right eyebrow. He had tattoos all over his arms with a tattoo of a cross with wings coming from the side of the cross on his chest. He had a few cuts on his hand and bruises on his knuckles.
"Hey, Shawn. Where are you man?" a male voice coming from his earpiece.
"Yeah, where are you? We're waiting for you." A female voice asked.
"Look, I can't make it. I got a lot on my tail." The man driving named "Shawn" said as he looked up in his rear view mirror.
"You can't shake them?" asked the male voice in his earpiece.
"I'm not going to shake them. I'm going to lead them away and give you guys enough time to escape." Shawn said.
"What? Shawn you can't be serious?" The female voice asked.
"Look, it is what it is. You guys get caught then you guys will do hard time. You guys have warrants out for your arrest. Me, I ain't got nothing. The worst I can do is 15 or 20."
"Shawn, you talking bout screwing your life up man." The male voice tried to plead with Shawn.
"Scott, you got a jitt on the way man. Trust me when I tell you this, that jitt is gonna need you. What do I always say? Gabby, Scott, what do I always say?"
"La Familia lo es todo." They both said in his ear.
"That's right. Family is everything. And you two are family. Now go, I'm gonna take the fall."
"Shawn, we can figure this out. Let me help-" Shawn took the earpiece out his ear and threw it out of the window, getting rid of the communication with his team. Family was everything to Shawn. Always has been, always will be. His team was family. Scott was about to have a baby with his girl Michelle and Gabby needed to be there for her father as he gotten older in age. People needed them. They needed to be free and be able to take care of their families. And it was Shawn's chance to take care of his other family.
He kept his left hand on the steering wheel and reached over to his glove compartment with his right. He opened it and pulled out a picture. A picture of his younger 10 year-old sister and his 15 year-old brother. He smiled as he looked at the picture.
"I love you two. I always will. I'm coming back to you guys. Not now but soon." Shawn put the picture back in the glove compartment and looked up once more at his rear view mirror seeing the cop cars gaining speed catching up with him.
He sighed as he closed his eyes and slowly pressed down on the brake causing his car to slow down. The cop cars slowed down as the car they were chasing was now reaching a complete stop. Cop cars surrounded the Chevelle. Shawn opened his eyes seeing all the blue and red lights flash in his face. He raised his hands up surrendering as he watched as several cops opened their doors and stood outside of the squad cars raising their guns pointing them at him.
He slowly opened his door and slowly stepped out of the car. Shawn looked around as he dropped down to his knees. Cops came running towards him pushing him down to the ground. He grunted as he felt his face on the hot concrete highway. He felt the cold steel handcuffs being locked on his wrist. The cops dragged Shawn up to his feet with force making him grunt as they pushed him to a cop car. Shawn turned his head and looked at the car one more time before he lowered his head and stepped into the back of the squad car. He turned his head and looked out of the window, possibly getting his last look of the outside for what may be a long time.
Present Day
Raiford, FL
It's been 8 years. 8 long years that Shawn spent away from his family and friends. 8 long years of having to fight everyday just to live. 8 years of having to constantly watch his back. But today was the day that would put an end to all of that. Who the hell would've thought that DeShawn Santos, the uncrowned King of the Streets in Miami would be getting out of prison on good behaviour? No one. Hell, no one really thought he would ever get locked up. But he did. And served 8 years of a 20 year sentence but because he kept to himself and served his time peacefully, he was getting out on Parole.
Shawn, who now was a bit bigger than he was before he got locked up, stood in his cell looking at his wall at the pictures on the wall. Pictures that he was sent by his mother and his friends, Scott and Gabby. Scott had sent pictures of his daughter, Angela. She was turning 7 in a few weeks. Gabby had sent pictures of her and her new husband which was a bit painful for him to see at first but he learned to get over it. He and Gabby had a rather complicated friends with benefits relationship, although they would occasionally try their luck in a relationship that would never work. His sister and his brother had gotten older. And his sister being older would create a problem. A problem called boys.
Shawn smiled as he reached up and started to take down some of the pictures off his wall.
"Santos, you got 2 minutes. Get ready to wrap it up." A guard said, peeking into his cell. Shawn said nothing but peeked over his shoulder, nodding his head at the guard. He turned his head and looked back at his wall, continuing to take his quick stroll down memory lane as he grabbed the pictures off his wall and placed them in the box with a few of his other belongings. Once Shawn grabbed all the pictures off his wall, he grabbed the box and walked out of the cell.
"Ready?" The guard asked. Shawn nodded as the guard then led the way down the hallway with several other prisoners shouting at him. Shawn simply ignored them and kept going on his way. Because for the last time, he was in captivity. And for the first time in 8 years, he will be free.
(!)
Just a few minutes after gathering his things from his cell. Shawn walked out of the prison dressed in the same fit he got arrested in consisting of blue jeans with "Wheat" Timbs and a black v-neck with a gold chain around his neck with a cross with a pair of miniature gold hoops in his ears. Shawn carried the brown box they gave him to carry his belongings as he walked to the gate. Looking forward a smile snuck it's way onto hsi face as in just a few feet, he was gonna be free from captivity. And the sight he set his eyes on made him smile.
It was a sunset orange 2004 Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06. The car itself was beautiful, especially with the beautiful orange paint job. But the person outside the car was just as beautiful standing at 5'5 with brown eyes and long brown hair with tanned skin. She wore grey jeans with a black tank-top and black boots.
"Alright, you're free to go." The guard said as he stood to the side while the gates opened. Shawn smiled walking through the gates feeling the feel of being free for the first time in 8 years. The smile on his face couldn't be wiped off as he walked towards the girl and the Corvette. He dropped his box on the ground and held his arms open as the girl walked towards him snaking her arms around his neck while his arms wrapped around her waist engulfing her in a tight embrace.
"I missed you, Shawn. It's been too long. I've missed you." The woman said as she leaned up giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"I know. 8 years, Gabby. 8 long years."
"You hungry?"
"Yeah but I can wait. I want my mom's cooking."
"Alright, well come on. We got a long drive." Gabby said as she walked around to the driver side of the car while Shawn picked up his box and walked towards the passenger side door.
"How long?"
"About 5 or 6 hours." She said as she unlocked the door and stepped into the car with Shawn doing the same putting his box down on the floor-mat.
"You can cut that down a bit right?" Shawn asked her with a smirk, making her smile as she reached across him into her glove compartment pulling out a pair of shades and putting them on her face. He chuckled as he buckled up before the 'Vette took off racing away from the place that held him captive for 8 years.
(!)
The two were racing down the Florida Turnpike. The speed limit was 70 but they were going 90. They were about halfway done with the drive and had about 2 more hours left. If it wasn't for Gabby's driving, they would have had about 3 and half-hours. So far the ride was pretty quiet with Shawn mostly looking out the window, looking at things he hadn't seen in 8 years. Seeing the sight of nature outside. Seeing the cars driving on the concrete. He had the window down letting the crisp wind collide with his skin.
It felt good. Freedom felt good.
"It feels good to be out, doesn't it?"
"You have no idea." He said with a smile as he turned to look at her.
"I remember the day you went in. Like it was yesterday."
"I do too."
"For the longest, I kept replaying it over and over in my head wondering if there was something different I could have done."
"Gabby-"
"No, let me finish. I kept replaying it in my head. I kept thinking had you took the same route, we did, you would've been with us. If you had left when we did, you would've been with us. With me. But you had to be the one to take care of everybody else. In a way it's a curse and blessing. I wanted to wait on you. Wait for you to get out and maybe we could've started a life together."
"Gabby, you deserve someone better than me. And you have that in your husband."
"I wanted a normal life with you."
"Normal ain't exactly something you get when dealing with me. Besides, you would've been waiting forever. I had 20 years on my case. Lucky for me I got out in 8."
"Yeah, lucky you."
"So who's this husband of yours?"
"His name is William, you'll meet him later tonight."
"Tonight? What's going on tonight?
"Shawn, it's your release day. Your family has been looking forward to this day for months, so you know how they're gonna celebrate it. Santos style."
"A party?"
"A big party."
"Shawn gonna be there?"
"He should be. You need to meet Angela, she's a sweetheart."
"If she's anything like her mother, I bet she is."
"Alright, you might want to rest up. We got a little bit of a drive left."
"Nah, I want to take it all in." Shawn said turning his head put his gaze back on the outside looking at the clear blue Florida sky.
A/N: Alright well that's Part 1 of Chapter 1 of this story. Part 2 is gonna be a bit more exciting considering what I have planned. DeShawn Santos and Gabriella "Gabby" Velazquez belong to my cousin, Ced. Don't worry Gabby is not a part of the new crew but a member of Shawn's old crew. I may have her step in for one more mission who knows. But keep sending those OCs in and let's create a fun story.
This is the ZackAttack signing out!
Peace!
