Unlimited Power : Arcane Path

A college student was returning home after studying abroad for several years when the end of the world happened. A dragon appeared out of nowhere and attacked the plane he was in, thanks to an incredible amount of luck and his quick-thinking, he managed to survive the plane crash only to get stuck on a tropical island.

A weird system took over the world and brought monsters to Earth. While nations collapsed and the world as a whole was being destroyed by ridiculous monsters, Leon was stuck in a godforsaken island with no chances of being rescued. What will happen to him? How will the world change while he is away? Will he even manage to return?

Unlimited Power: The Arcane Path

Leon had just woken up in the middle of the flight. Since he had spent the entire previous night in the airport preparing for his trip, he was quite exhausted and decided to take a nap soon after the plane took off.

Despite the fact that every seat in the plane was taken up, the cabin was utterly silent. Although it was 05:00 AM, and he was tired, he couldn't go back to sleep. He was excited to finally be returning home after four years. He was eager to see his parents and little sister. Seeing them up close couldn't compare to communicating through a screen after all. Besides, he finally had his chance to mend the mistakes he'd made in the past.

As Leon considered his destination, he was distracted by a sudden jarring feeling. His body was pushed forward violently, and he felt the air leave his lungs as he hit the seat in front of him. Then he heard the sound of the alert and realized that the plane had hit something. The impact hadn't been all that powerful, and the rest of the passengers seemed unharmed..

"Oww…" he said, rubbing his head where it had smacked against the seat in front. "What just happened?"

As the other passengers were trying to recover from their surprise wake-up call, Leon looked out the window to see what had caused the impact. He saw a large object flying alongside the plane. It looked like a bird at first but was clearly too big to be one. It wasn't like birds could fly as fast as planes, after all.

Suddenly, the creature drew closer, and Leon noticed that it looked more lizard-like than a bird. Without thinking, he immediately sat down and put on the seat belt. If he had to explain why he did that, he wouldn't be able to. He only did it automatically, as if he were a robot. Besides, the answer to what that thing was appeared just as soon as it opened is mouth, spitting out a jet of fire that hit the plane.

Oh my god! That's a dragon!

That was the last thought that went through his mind as the fire instantly melted the center of the plane, killing dozens of passengers at once. Then, the rest of the plane simply fell out of the sky.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Fear Resistance!

You have gained 01 status points.

His head spun just as fast as the plane did as it fell. He was seated in the back of the plane, so he had a complete view of what was transpiring around him. The two halves of the aircraft were plummeting at incredible speeds, and the lack of oxygen at this altitude were making his consciousness wane. At a fearsome pace, all parts of the plane were disconnecting. He wanted to scream in terror, but his voice was robbed from him by the air pressure.

What is going on…

Although a small part of his mind was trying to convince him that this was a horrible dream, the pain and horror of it all told him it was real. Part of him wanted to give up to escape the fear, but he forced himself to stay conscious.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Mental Fortitude!

You have gained 01 status points.

It looked like he was already losing his mind. Leon heard voices in his head, even though the other passengers were gone, their screams lost to him. He forced himself to look to the sides to check, but saw no sign of the other passengers in their seats. They must have been unhooked when the plane had broken apart and had been sucked out. Since his seat was starting to tremble uncontrollably, he was sure he'd be following them soon.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Perception!

You have obtained 01 status points.

His seat had finally been thrown out of the plane, and he felt the dizziness ease a little. But without being able to control his body or movements, Leon started to spin out of control again. The dizziness returned in full force, and this time, it also brought a companion: migraine.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Pain Resistance!

You have obtained 01 status points.

At this point, it was too weird for it to be a hallucination, which meant the voice must be real. Once he recognized that fact, Leon knew what to do. He thought about a status screen, and something and something appeared in front of him. However, with all the spinning, he couldn't read it at all.

He moved his arms to unlock the seatbelt, and noticed that the seat was long gone. He was free-falling now, with nothing holding him. Little by little, his spin decreased until his body stabilized mid-air, like he was a sky diver. But then…

Oh shit. Oh shit!

Now Leon could see a game-like screen in front of him. He could also see the plane falling towards the ocean in thousands of little pieces, and the passengers also plummeting towards the water below. He didn't know how much time had passed since that monster attacked the plane, but judging by his altitude, he knew he didn't have much time left.

Leon started to wonder why he was staring at that screen. It wasn't like he would find anything that could help him survive the fall from that height. The voice he heard made him remember the notifications he heard in some games, but it wasn't like he had played a game where his character could survive that.

Oh god… I'm going to die.

Fear gave place to despair in Leon's heart, and once he recognize that fact, his heart went cold like ice. Something messed up was happening to be sure, but he would die without knowing that. He wanted to know why a dragon had suddenly appeared. He wanted to do so many things with his life, and now he wouldn't be able to do anything.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Rage!

Despair gave place to rage. None of this was fair! Why the hell did he have to die like this, after working so hard for so long, away from his family and friends!? Why the hell did a monster appear out of now where and attack the plane he was in? It was unfair, and it didn't make sense. Then the fear returned quickly as Leon saw the bodies of the other passengers falling into the ocean and breaking like twigs.

Leon's body gave up at this point and accepted the imminent death. But his mind refused to accept it. His eyes focused on the screen, and he put all his status points in health. It probably wouldn't change a thing, but at least on the other side, he could be proud of himself for actually trying to survive.

Then he hit the water, feeling as if he'd collided with a speeding cargo truck.

Leon woke up due to the sharp pain he was feeling in all his limbs. His mind was all foggy, but at least the world wasn't spinning anymore. He tried to move his body, but that only made him feel a bone-chilling pain all over his body.

"AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Screaming didn't help. Instead, it made him even more pain. However, weirdly, the pain made him feel relieved because the pain was proof that he was alive. Although he lost consciousness, he didn't forget what happened before that.

That weird voice inside his mind made Leon recall every single bit of the moments before he lost consciousness with precision. For a second, he tried to deny that nightmare had been real with all his heart, but the pain all over his body didn't let him. Something really messed up had happened, and a monster appeared knocking down the plane with a single attack.

After recalling those memories, Leon's vision started to clear up, and he saw a space white and green around him. He heard the sound of the ocean coming behind him, and he also felt his wet clothes. Leon tried to move only his head, but he felt a sharp pain on his shoulders. He had dislocated both shoulders, and he could feel that even his collarbones were broken. He felt powerless like a broken puppet.

"Shit... damn it... why this happened?"

Leon couldn't move anything but his eyes without suffering a hellish pain. Fortunately, that had been enough to make him understand that the tide brought him to an island. He was aware of the fact that the plane fell into the middle of the pacific ocean, so it was clear that it was an island. Regardless, soon the tide would bring him back to the sea if he stays like that.

"Ah... maybe I can use that."

Leon recalled his last moments before losing consciousness, he increased his health with those status points, and that was why he managed to survive. Maybe if he raises his health again, the pain would decrease, and he would be able to move again.

Leon felt shivers looking at his health, it looked like he was really at death's door, and he barely survived the fall. Regardless, he had five free points to use and put them in health, making his max health increase, and his current health increased as well. The pain decreased, and Leon finally managed to move his body. The pain was still there, but it was bearable. However, he still couldn't move his arms and legs, and Leon didn't like that. He insisted, but again, there was no response coming from his limbs. However, the pain was still there, so that meant that he only had broken them.

Leon obtained another status point, so he began to consider the things he could do to free himself from that predicament. The answer could only be found in one place: the status screen. The moment he thought that the semi-translucent blue-ish screen appeared. Leon was familiar with game mechanics such as regeneration, but he didn't find such options, but recovery looked pretty similar to that. The problem was how much one single point in recovery would help him? There was only one way to know, and so Leon put that meager point in recovery. Fortunately, the screen could read his mind, so he didn't have to click on anything. However, Leon didn't feel any difference.

"Ugh... I guess I will have to wait for a little while."

Leon could only hope that that small change would be noticeable sooner, it looked like certain actions could increase his free status, but there wasn't much Leon could do in that state.

"Let's see... is there a skill list?"

The moment Leon thought that, another screen appeared. It looked quite small and straightforward, but he recalled that he received the notifications of 'learning' those skills.

Skill List

Active Skills:

Passive Skills: Fear Resistance Lv 6, Mental Fortitude Lv 1, Perception Lv 1, Pain Resistance Lv 7, Rage Lv1,

"I really don't want to move and feel pain again, and it is not like a can force myself to feel fear. How can I even level up something like Mental Fortitude? I guess there is nothing to be perceived around here... the only option is Rage."

As such, Leon tried to become angry, but he was more confused than anything. He tried and tried to get angry, but nothing happened. While Leon was thinking of what to do to obtain free status points, suddenly he felt the pain decreasing, he also felt less tired. He still couldn't move his body, but he noticed that his health had recovered by two points. The recovery status was working. Ten minutes later, the same thing happened, and this time Leon felt like he could endure the pain.

Leon tried to move his arms, and he did it, only to see them bent to a weird angle. He didn't even have to see his legs to understand that they were in the same condition.

"This is bad... really bad..."

Somehow, his body was recovering from damage every ten minutes, but it didn't look like they were utterly repairing themselves. They were just healing, and at that pace, something terrible would happen if his body recovers while his limbs weren't in the right position.

Without any other option, Leon forced himself to relocate the bones of his arms using the weight of his body. Immediately afterward, he obtained control over his right arm, but the pain he felt made him sweat cold. Not only that, he saw that his health had decreased. Leon felt like he was harming himself like that, but he had to do that again since the lower half of his right arm was broken.

Leon clenched his teeth and did it again; once again, the pain made him feel shivers, but this time he didn't see any notifications. Things were getting complicated, he suffered damage, and his vision was getting cloudy again. He still had to fix his legs, even just one would be enough, as long as he can move his body away from the shore.

Leon tried to move his legs a little to have a good grasp of how his legs were. When he did it, a sharp pain coming from his knees crossed his entire being and made him tremble.

"Great... both my knees are completely broke."

It looked like that was the only part that was damaged, so Leon forced himself to make that last effort. It would be painful as hell, but he had to do it. He put his four free points in recovery and then spun his entire body. Before losing his consciousness, Leon felt another wave of pain, the smell of blood, and heard flesh being pierced by bones.

Congratulations! The skill Pain Resistance has leveled up.

You obtained 01 status points.

When Leon woke up, the pain in his upper body had disappeared. It looked like his collarbones and arms weren't all that bad and managed to recover from the damage. However, Leon froze and started to sweat cold when he saw the condition of his knees. His legs were fine, but his knees... both of his knees had been destroyed, and he could see the cracked bones with his own eyes. Leon wasn't a doctor, but it looked like not even a surgery would be able to repair them completely.

"... No, I will be fine... I will find a way to solve this."

Leon breathed deeply several times to calm his nerves and said that to convince himself that there was a way. He wouldn't lose his legs like that; he definitely wouldn't. Leon started to think while checking his body. Although his clothes were in tatters and covered in blood, he was completely fine. It didn't even look like he had fallen from an airplane, everything aside from his knees were also fine, but he couldn't move his feet due to the severity of his knees situation.

"That is weird... I thought recovery would heal my body no matter what."

Leon counted from one to six hundred, but he didn't feel that sensation of energy filling his body. He checked his status screen and noticed that his health was full. There was only one explanation, his body wouldn't completely heal if there was a chance that could damage itself even more.

"I can do this... I don't know what the hell is going on, but crazy and magic things are happening. I'm sure I can find a way to heal my knees."

Leon looked around and confirmed that he was indeed on a beach of a tropical island. It seemed to be pretty big, but he didn't recall seeing it while he was falling. That being said, it couldn't be far away from the point the airplane fell. Despite that, there was no sign of the passengers or the pieces of the plane.

"If only I could find some medicine to relieve the pain... I could use it to numb my senses and force my bones to return to their places."

Leon would probably lose control over his body before he can pull that crazy plan in action, but it was the only thing he could logically do. Considering the illogical stuff he could do, he could retort to magic, he apparently learned those skills, so there was a chance that he could learn a skill to heal wounds.

"I'm crazy... Why I am thinking of something so stupid... but if I survive an airplane crash, then I should be able to learn magic."

It didn't make sense, but at that point in time, Leon couldn't tell what was reasonable and what wasn't. Despite that, he decided to explore the island instead of doing something dubious, like trying to chant a spell.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Strong Arms.

Leon finally learned his first active skill; it was weird learning skills like that since the only thing he really did was try to crawl. Fortunately, he didn't have to do silly things like calling the name of the skill to activate it, just by thinking, his arms got strong enough to let him move without putting much effort. However, every ten seconds, he would lose stamina, and that made him feel tired.

"It doesn't matter… I just have to wait for the recovery to do its magic."

Pushing his lower body like that wasn't pleasant, but once he left the beach and started to crawl on the grass, things got easier to Leon. There was a pretty decent forest in front of him, so the chances of him finding food and medicinal herbs were quite good. The problem was, Leon didn't know how to recognize medicinal herbs or plants.

After just a few minutes of exploration, Leon confirmed that he wouldn't die of hunger in that island. He didn't find a single animal there, but coconuts and bananas could be found there in abundance. However, he didn't find anything that could resemble a medicinal herb, and he didn't find any ponds either. Leon only explored a small part of that island, but the chances of him finding clean water were quite low.

"Shit… give me a break, at least give me some room to breathe."

Leon knew he could quench his thirst by drinking coconut water, but he doubted that he would last long drinking only that.

At least Leon's skills were leveling up, and his free status was pilling up, those would be essential for him to survive until he gets rescued. However, when Leon thought that…

"Will I even be rescued? Will someone look for me? No… don't think about it. One problem at a time."

Leon gave up on finding medicinal herbs, he couldn't even differentiate those from regular flowers, so it was better to think of a different solution, or he would end up poisoning himself.

"Let's see… I have to fix my knees without surgery and without relying on any conventional method since I'm not a doctor… my medical knowledge of how to fix bones is close to none. So, in that case, I can only do one thing… use brute strength and endure the pain."

Leon was pretty sure that status and skills would be essential for his future, he couldn't use them to solve every single one of his problems. However, it was the only thing he could do to fix his knees.

"When did I become such a muscle-head?"

Leon wondered that while he took off his shirt and tore it into two pieces, he returned to the ocean and cleaned it because it was the only thing he could use as a bandage.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Fire Resistance.

You obtained 01 status points.

While Leon was waiting for his 'bandages' to dry up, he noticed that that island was very warm, warm to the point that he obtained a new skill. It looked like many actions could become skills, so Leon decided to test that theory. He found a shell near him and threw it back to the ocean.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Throw.

You obtained 01 status points.

It was another active skill, so it became obvious to Leon that active skills were the ones he would have to use by acting while passive skills would work independently of his own will.

"Let's see… what more can I do to learn more skills? I will need some free status points if I want to endure the pain."

Leon looked around, picked another shell, and threw it at a random tree. However, he missed, and nothing happened, but on his second try, he hit it and received another notification.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Accuracy.

You obtained 01 status points.

Leon looked around once again, but this time didn't find anything he could use. He sighed in exasperation because he thought that he was smarter than that.

"I guess studying abroad didn't make me sharp… just a little more knowledgeable."

To endure the pain, Leon put all his eight free status points in endurance. Maybe putting some point in mentality would help as well, but he decided to go by decreasing the pain as much as possible. He needed to fix his knees, and to do that, he needed to put the bones in the right place so that the recovery can do its magic.

Leon breathed in and out several times to calm his nerves; this time, he would directly touch a gravely damaged area of his body, so the pain would be even more intense. Leon carefully put the bandages around his right knee, and when the time came, in a single movement, he put all the broken bones where they were supposed to be using the bandages.

The pain made Leon's body tremble from head to toe, the pain almost made him lose control over his nervous system, and the shivers made his heart grow cold. Blood spattered around his body, and the sound of tattered flesh being moved disgusted him. Despite that, he endured the whole pain for several seconds until he tied up the bandages and fixed the position of his knees. When he finished, he left his back fall on the hot sand.

Despite the tropical weather, Leon was trembling as if he was in the south pole. He was also sweating cold… However, he managed to stay conscious until the very end.

"I guess this skill really decreased the amount of pain I was supposed to feel by doing something so reckless… Ugh."

With every heartbeat, Leon felt his right knee throbbing. The pain was supposed to be far worse than that, but he wouldn't complain about that convenient situation. Leon checked his right leg, and despite the small bleeding, everything was in its proper place. After ten minutes, he felt his lost health recovering, and fortunately, Leon regained control over his right leg. It wasn't totally healed, but it looked like he had done everything well.

"Now, I just have to do the same with the left knee… Oh, boy…"

Despite the success of his first try, Leon hesitated. The pain was too intense, and even with the help of the pain resistance skill, he couldn't help but try to delay the inevitable. In the end, he just clenched his teeth and endured the pain once again before losing consciousness.

When Leon woke up again, all the pain of his body was long gone, but something equally annoying took the pain's place: hunger and thirst. The circle of feeling pain and losing consciousness was finally over, but now Leon barely could muster the pain to move his body.

"For how long did I sleep?"

Considering the hunger and thirst, he was feeling; it looked like he stayed unconscious for three days and nights. However, the sun in the sky had barely moved since the moment he fixed his knees.

With much effort, Leon managed to raise his upper body and confirm that his knees had healed. He touched them, but there was no pain. Slowly Leon took off the bandages, but once again, no pain. After a while, he could see his knees, and there was not even a sign of a scar.

"Surviving a free fall from an airplane… healing this stupidly fast like this…. What the hell is going on?"

Although Leon wanted answers, at that moment, he wanted food more. His vision was getting blurry, but he managed to get up and approach the trees. However, after three steps, he lost control over his legs. He didn't feel pain; it looked like Leon just had no energy.

"Ha-ha… that is funny. I survived that crash just to die of hunger while I am five meters away from some bananas... Screw it!"

Congratulations! The skill Strong Arms has leveled up.

You obtained 01 status points.

If he couldn't use his legs, Leon would use his arms, and if that weren't possible, he would use his chin to move. However, the arms alone had been enough to make him move; when he thought of the strong arm skill, moving became so easy that he almost passed by the bunch of bananas. Leon was so hungry that he ate the bananas without peeling them, despite that, it tasted great, and it also revitalized his body in a matter of seconds. Leon's vision cleared again, and he received a great shock. His limbs were thin as if he hadn't a decent meal in weeks.

"What the… did I stay unconscious for that long?"

Leon couldn't imagine how he survived by staying unconscious for so long. However, after he looked around, he concluded that not a single day had even passed after the crash because there was no sign of the plane wreckage.

"If I didn't stay unconscious for that long… it looks like my recovery isn't that miraculous. My own flesh was being used to heal my wounds; that is why I lost so much weight."

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Analysis.

You obtained 01 status points.

Now that Leon finally recovered his energy, he got up and checked that despite being so thin, his entire body was fine. However, he still was thirsty. He picked a nearby fallen coconut to drink its water but then noticed that he didn't have anything to open it.

"Now what?"

Leon tried to crack the coconut hitting it against a tree, but he didn't succeed in breaking it. He breathed in and out and concentrated; this time, he grabbed the coconut with his two hands and smashed it against the tree. Leon's hands got wet soon after he heard a crack.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Bash.

You obtained 01 status points.

Leon's attempt cracked the coconut in several places, so he raised it above his head and drunk the coconut water that was slowly dripping. Once again, he felt alive like never before, Leon never liked coconut water all that much, but at that point in time, it tasted like the sweetest nectar of the world.

Since Leon was still hungry, he broke the coconut entirely after drinking its contents. After that, he ate the coconut meat. It didn't look like he would satisfy his hunger anytime soon, but it was about time to think in the long term.

"I have food and water… this place is big, so it should last for a few months. I can fish, I just have to carve a spear out of wood. So, I can survive here… but how do I leave this place?"

Until now, Leon managed to survive thanks to the miracles the status granted him. The resistance to survive from an airplane crash and regeneration to heal wounds. However, could he use that to go home or to reach any place with civilization? The answer was yes, he was quite sure with that status he could become powerful enough to do seemingly impossible things. The problem was, how and when?

"If I remember well, the plane crashed around 05:00 AM. So, the plane flew for over three hours… at least one-third of that we flew over the ocean. That means I'm more or less eight hundred kilometers away from Asia… fantastic."

It looked like Leon's best option was to go to Asia and, from there, return to home. However, he couldn't tell where he exactly was, and he wasn't a sailor either. The chances of him succeeding while trying to cross the ocean and reach the continent were extremely dim. He could use trees to make a boat, but he didn't have the skills to build a doghouse, could he build a boat that could keep him alive while crossing the ocean full of dangers? The answer was no.

While Leon was thinking about ways he could die in the ocean, he suddenly heard a roar coming from above him. Leon froze when he saw another massive thing flying above him; it looked exactly like the dragon that attacked the airplane. When he recovered from the shock, he ran and hid in the forest behind some bushes. Leon trembled every time he heard that roar, but after some time, the sound finally disappeared… it looked like the ocean wasn't the only danger Leon would have to face to return home.

After he calmed down, Leon started to analyze his fuzzy memories. He recalled the scene of the first dragon he saw. That one was fifty meters long and had red scales. Despite that, it could fly at the same speed as an airplane. The second one looked far smaller and slower. Although the fear clouded his vision, he saw hints of silver in that creature's skin. It was a different dragon… possibly from a different species.

"So, dragons are flying over the Earth now. Great…"

The number of worries increased, but considering that was something beyond Leon's hands, he decided not to think about it. He could only pray not to see any other again and not to be noticed. However, the existence of dragons put doubt in Leon's mind.

"I have to check this.."

Leon approached the ocean, this time without even putting his feet near the wet sand, in the worst-case scenario, dragons wouldn't be the only monsters that have appeared on Earth, but at that distance, he couldn't confirm it.

"I really don't want to want to get close to water… if other monsters also invaded Earth, maybe it will take a while before I find some aquatic monsters. Several hours have passed since the crash, but I only saw two dragons after all…"

For the time being, Leon decided to content himself with coconuts and bananas. He would be a vegan until he confirms his safety in the ocean.

"Don't think about monsters, don't think about monsters… rather than that, to survive here, what do I have to do?"

Leon's main goal was to go back home, but that was a long-term objective. Right now, he had to do anything he can to survive and to survive; one would have to eat, sleep, and don't die.

"I have to create a place to protect me from the cold winds of the night and the heat of the day. I need a home… but I also need to check if this place is safe."

Leon decided to walk around the island through the beach, while he was at it, he picked some sticks to help him build his shelter and also checked for the airplane wreckage. He found several good sticks, but nothing related to the airplane. The island was quite big, it took him one hour before he managed to complete a full lap around it and fortunately, he didn't find any signs of monsters or dangerous animals. It goes without saying, but he saw no signs of human life either.

"Ok… I just have to check the interior of the forest…"

After seeing two monsters that looked like dragons, Leon started to feel afraid of exploring the forest. It was a necessity to analyze the place he would stay, but he couldn't help but flinch while imagining himself finding monsters like dragons.

"Come on… I don't have time to waste. If there is something here, I will die even if I don't explore the island."

Mustering the little courage he had, Leon stored the sticks he found nearby the tree that saved him from dying of hunger and entered the forest. The number of fruit trees was high, and the grass wasn't all that tall, probably due to the sea breeze. There a few bushes here and there, but those also seemed untouched. Leon wasn't a hunter, but after crossing the forest, from North to South and from East to West, he confirmed that he was alone on that island.

"I'm happy about that, but…"

The feeling of loneliness in an unknown place was heartbreaking and unnerving. Leon couldn't rely on anyone there, and no one could watch his back. After spending four years in a different country, only for that to happen was…

"Don't think about it, don't think about it… I have to keep my head busy thinking about solutions, not problems."

Complaints wouldn't help, so Leon started to build his improvised shelter. Using one random tree that was free of coconuts as a basis, he aligned several twigs together and used coconut leaves to fill the space between them. Using the same process, he created the ceiling of the shelter. Since Leon didn't have lines or ropes, he lost a lot of time gathering fiber for plants and making those improvised lines to make everything firm.

After several hours, Leon's shelter was complete. It was shabby and small, but it was big enough for him to sleep and to sit. More importantly, he barely could feel the sea breeze entering it from the sides or from above.

It was already getting dark when Leon noticed that he had forgotten to make one very important thing, a campfire.

"Oh, crap… how could I have forgotten that?"

Leon left the shelter and tried to found some twigs and stones to make the campfire, he indeed found them, but in the end, he failed to light up the campfire. Despite that, the night on the island, it wasn't all that dark. The light of the stars illuminated the place enough to let Leon see himself. However, the sound of the wind and the lack of any light on the horizon made his heart grew cold.

Leon was alone, afraid of the uncertain future now that monsters inhabited the planet, and he couldn't do anything but struggle while waiting for the chance to go back home. The situation was so dire that Leon failed to see how beautiful the night sky was when there was no civilization nearby. It looked like he could touch the stars with his hands if he wanted, but instead of that, he felt weak and powerless while looking at them. He was so small and fragile in comparison with the planet, and he was even smaller and weaker in comparison to those stars… for the first time in his life, Leon understood how his life was unimportant, and his death wouldn't change anything on the planet.

If Leon could describe that night, he would use the words: worst night ever. He didn't sleep even for a second due to the situation he was in, he could only hear the sound of the wind, but his imagination turned those sounds into something far more ominous. When morning came, Leon was exhausted and hungry to the point of starvation. Once again, he grabbed a coconut to drink and eat its contents.

"My new home needs some improvement, but for the time being, I'm satisfied with it. I guess I should start working on my escape plan."

Leon's first idea was to create a boat, but he discarded that because he didn't have the skills to create one that could withstand the hardships of the ocean for more than a few days. Besides, he didn't know how to sail. By trying that, he would only die slowly by starvation or thirsty. In the worst-case scenario, he could end up in the stomach of a shark or a monster.

The second idea was to wait to be rescued, but considering that Leon found two dragons in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the chances of countries being attacked en masse by those creatures were quite high. So, no one would bother looking for survivors of an airplane crash.

"I guess I will have to learn a skill or increase my status to find a way to go back home…"

Considering that the pain he felt decreased thanks to the pain resistance skill, it seemed like a good idea. To learn the skill Swim and practice it, perhaps Leon would become faster or spend less energy while doing that. However, he doubted that someday he could swim faster than sharks…

"Plan number four… fly… I can't believe I'm even considering this to be plausible."

Leon survived the crash of an airplane; he healed his seemingly beyond help body… so there was a chance that he could learn how to fly. Leon jumped and started to move his arms like wings… one hour later, he wanted to bury his face on the hot sand of the beach because that would be less painful, and dying of embarrassment was hard, even without anyone nearby to see his silly actions.

"All right… I can't learn how to fly… now what?"

Leon sat down and started to think, if his body could recover so fast, perhaps he could become fast enough to run over water without sinking. He just has to train his skill and put all his free status points in speed… but there was a problem, for how long could he maintain that speed? Instead, how fast one needs to be to run over water without sinking? Leon recalled that he had heard that one would have to run thirty meters per second to do it. So, if by chance his speed was seven and he could run seven meters per second, he would have to increase his speed by twenty-three points and increase his stamina and recovery to at least one hundred to last the whole trip to Asia.

"Yep, I'm screwed. I think I will have better chances of learning how to fly by moving my arms."

It was utterly stupid, but it was better to try to do something stupid than wait for something improbable to happen like someone looking and finding Leon. Thus, Leon did some tests. Running at his top speed, he managed to run for sixty seconds, but after that, he lost control over his body until the recovery restored his stamina.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Dash.

"That scared the hell out of me… to think that I would stay conscious but without being able to move my body… what a disturbing feeling."

Leon would have to do some test laster, but at least he already had a plan. He would need to have thirty points of speed, one hundred points of stamina, and one hundred points of recovery to run on water without resting. It was quite a stupid plan, but as long as he could outrun sharks, the danger was at an acceptable level.

"… I'd better think of another plan while I train to obtain the status necessary to do it. This is far too crazy and reckless. "

Now that he had a clear goal aside from returning home, Leon could work to reach such an objective. But to do that more efficiently, he decided to check his status and skills.

The things he could do to earn more free status points were quite a lot, sunbath, throw stones, attack stuff with all his power, move using his arms alone… Those were the primary things he could do, but he could get sick if he stays under the hot sun of a tropical island for long. Aside from Accuracy and Craft, he would need to spend stamina to use those.

"If training Accuracy, my aim will really improve, then that will do that first. I need to raise it in cause something happens…"

Leon didn't want to think about monsters, but he had to prepare for every single scenario. He didn't want to die by the hands of monsters, and he didn't want to spend the rest of his life on that island, so the only thing he could was to work hard. Leon grabbed a few shells along the beach and started to throw them at a random tree.

It was a very silly thing to do, but Leon spent the entire morning throwing shells at a tree. He thought he would be able to level up that skill much more times after doing that hundreds of times, but it looked like repetition wasn't entirely the key to earn the free status point.

"Mmm… maybe the intensity is as important as the repetition is."

Leon decided to throw the shells with all his might, and he could sense his stamina being used, and then the Throw skill was activated. After the twentieth shot, he received a notification.

Congratulations! The skill Accuracy has leveled up.

"As I expected… the more effort I put into those actions, the faster the skills will level up."

Leon noticed a slight improvement in his accuracy, thanks to that, he was quite eager to keep doing that, but he stopped when he heard his stomach growling.

"It looks like I became a powerful engine, but the engine consumes too much fuel…"

Coconuts were quite a complete meal, but Leon was tired of breaking them. Soon, he would have to worry about storing water, and there was nothing better nearby than the coconuts.

"I need a knife. A fork also would help…"

While Leon was eating the coconut's meat, he started to walk around looking for a sharp stone. There weren't many rocks on that island, so the number of pebbles was quite small. Leon didn't found a sharp stone, but he found one that could be sharpened. He had to put quite an effort to sharp that stone without breaking it, but he was quite satisfied with the result. He could easily give shape to small pieces of wood with his improvised knife, so perhaps it was time to make good use of the Craft and Accuracy skills.

Leon recalled the documentary he saw one time of how old archers made their own bows. They looked for some resilient branches, cleaned them, and they put several of those together. After that, they used plant fibers as a string. Leon had a hard time finding those branches, but at least he found enough to make a bow with a good grip. However, he stopped because it was getting late again. This time he wouldn't fail on the preparations for the campfire.

Almost everything was ready, so Leon noticed why he failed; the stones he found to create the spark were covered in mold, and the sea breeze also made everything difficult. Once he got rid of those obstacles, he finally lit up the bonfire. The night of that island wasn't that cold, but the warmth and the light of the bonfire were more than welcome.

After making sure the bonfire was stable, Leon resumed his task of creating a bow. Now that he had some extra hours of light where he could work, he had time to finish the bow.

The bow was a shorty and quite rustic, but it wasn't all that bad for a first try. More important than that, it made Leon keep his mind busy, instead of endlessly worrying about every single thing that could happen.

With his belly full after eating two coconuts, Leon fell asleep without noticing due to the exhaustion of the two previous days.

When Leon woke up, he was starving again. He opened another coconut with his improvised knife and the put near it where he had put the last coconut shell, but then he noticed that it had disappeared. In the place where he was sure he put, he saw a small plant.

"Mmm? I'm pretty sure I put it here…"

Now that he had finally noticed that, Leon didn't find the broken parts of the coconut he broke, nor could he see the remainings of the bananas. It didn't look like the wind made those move, even his improvised shelter looked the same. So the wind wasn't responsible for that. Leon only understood what happened when he touched that small plant.

Coconut Baby Tree

Mana: 1/100

Leon frowned when he saw that, it was probably the effects of his analysis skill, but then started to wonder why he didn't see any screen like when he completed his bow. Regardless, after touching the plant for a few seconds, Leon felt something leaving his finger; after that, the mana in that small tree went up by one point.

"What will happen when this thing obtains one hundred points of mana? Come to think of it… I should find a way to use mana too."

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Mana Transfusion.

You obtained 01 status points.

As if someone had heard Leon's thought, he received that notification. He finally found a skill which could make him use mana, but it wasn't all that useful. Instead, when he transferred mana to the tree again, he felt light-headed.

Leon was curious about what would happen if that tree obtains that amount of mana, and since he wanted to make use of his new skill to gain more status, he decided to transfer it whenever possible. With the passage of the time, the tree grew and grew until it became the size of an ordinary coconut tree. However, when it had one hundred mana points. It dropped three coconuts and became sand.

"What the… that was scary."

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Farming.

Leon checked those three coconuts, but he didn't find any difference in them. He also hesitated in eating them, but once he did, he didn't notice any difference in the taste either. Rather it looked even more delicious than usual… Just like that, Leon discovered that he wouldn't die of hunger or thirst in that island.

After noticing the miracle of seeing a tree growing at a fearsome speed and also dying at fearsome speed, Leon concluded that magical things like that could happen. He had mana, so he was capable of creating such phenomena. If he could use magic, perhaps his trip to home would happen much sooner.

"The problem is… how can I use magic?"

If Leon could magic, then perhaps flying wasn't impossible, but he doubted that he could learn such a high-level technique by himself.

"Let's see.. even if I can't fly, if I manage to create a boat with ice or earth. It should work… I just have to put some holes in it to store the air, and the thing will float… but first, I have to learn the basics."

Just like before, Leon started with the silly antics. He tried to conjure some Harry Potter spells, cast fireballs, and other spells by shouting their names, creating conditions for him to use supernatural powers… but nothing happened. Once again, Leon was about to die of embarrassment. But he still had one thing he had to try.

"KA-ME-HA-ME-HAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Nothing happened; if anything, Leon felt more stupid than usual, and he also felt like a dream of his youth had been completely destroyed. Regardless, magic was his plan B now, and he had to keep trying how to use it.

Even without a target, Leon could use the Mana Transfusion. However, since he didn't have much mana, soon he would have to rest. Just like stamina, using mana has its downsides, the more he uses, the more his mind becomes foggy. He tried to control the mana that he transferred to the air, but nothing happened even though he could feel it. He also tried to concentrate his mana in a single part of his body, but once again, nothing happened. He could only use mana when he wished to transfer it.

"Now what? I can't give up, but I can't just walk around so blindly."

Some weird phenomena brought mana and magical things to Earth, but the planet was originally a world without magic and mana, and that was why Leon couldn't see it. He started to think of a way to using mana while he was trying to carve wooden arrows out of tree branches.

"Mmm… I wonder if I can plant even normal trees. I should test that, maybe it will come in handy later."

Leon planted a few leaves in a hole and made a mental note to check it the next day. After that, he returned to his task of trying to control where his mana was sent while transfusing it.

Since he was constantly spending energy to use that skill, it was leveling up quite fast. However, Leon still couldn't see the progress of that skill. He tried to transfer his mana to other things like the land or trees, but it didn't work.

"I wonder why… Is it because those are old? Only new things like those new plants can receive mana?"

That was probably the case, Leon concluded that because his Analysis skill only worked in the trees that had been born from the coconuts and bananas he ate.

"No, it is too soon to draw a conclusion. I feel like I'm missing something…"

After doing some experiments, Leon concluded at the end of that day and found something he was missing. The something was himself, he was too weak and had too little mana. It looked like his mana was so small that it could only be infused in small portions of non-organic matter. Using all his mana, Leon could only control ten grams of earth for a single minute.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Earth Manipulation.

You obtained 01 status points.

"Wow! Awesome! This is magic!"

Leon was twenty-two years old, but he felt like a kid who just received a new toy while watching that meager amount of earth over his total control. Controlling it was quite hard, but the earth was surely obeying his will. When he tried to make a round object, the earth became an almost round object. When he wanted to shape it in the shape of a square, it became something similar.

But soon, he lost control over it, and the earth returned to its place, and Leon lost consciousness since he used too much mana. Ten minutes later, Leon woke up and started to analyze that skill even more.

Although it was very convenient, that skill had some serious restrictions. First of all, unless he has a clear image of the amount of matter he wants to control, the skill would fail. Second of all, if he wishes to use more than he can control, the skill will fail. Unless he is in contact with the matter he wants to control, he can't infuse his mana with it.

"So… by considering those rules, it doesn't look like I can control more dense objects. However, if I obtain enough mana, perhaps I can control anything as if it is some kind of telekinesis."

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Water Manipulation.

You obtained 01 status points.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Wind Manipulation.

Leon had a little more difficulty applying the logic behind earth manipulation in water and the air. However, soon he understood it, even though their compositions were different and had different masses, he still could control them. It was harder, but he could, the difference was probably because water and wind are less dense than earth. Regardless, Leon was excited about the new things he could do, so excited that he didn't notice he would need stupid amounts of mana to create a boat using earth and even more using ice.

Since Leon could manipulate earth, water, and wind, he also needs to manipulate fire. However, he was aware of the fact that one would be difficult because he would have to mix oxygen, heat, and fuel to create it. It was also time to light up the campfire, so he approached it.

"Mmm…"

Leon tried to control his mana while connecting oxygen, heat, and fuel, but then he stopped. How could he control heat? Although he could feel the heat like the air...

Leon really wanted to learn that skill, but after trying several times, he gave up. He still was a newbie using mana, but he doubted that he would be able to control and understand it to the point where he would be able to control light itself.

"I shouldn't get too greedy here… I should feel content that I manage to pull off those crazy things."

Leon lit the campfire the usual way and started to practice his earth manipulation, but then he stopped because he was feeling itchy all over his body. It was time to clean himself.

"Oh, man... how will I survive here wearing the same tattered and dirty clothes?"

His shirt was long gone, his sneakers wouldn't be of any use while he stays on that island. So, Leon's clothes were basically his briefs and trousers, and those were already making his parts all itchy since he didn't clean them in three days.

"Well, there is no one nearby, so it is okay."

Leon took off his clothes to wash in the ocean before the night comes; he would need them to sleep since his clothes were the only things that made him feel comfortable on that island. However, Leon stopped when he approached the ocean and saw several weird looking fishes with red eyes.

"What the fuck is that?"

Leon staggered and fell on his butt because those fishes were too close to the beach. They were so close that Leon could probably step on them before the water reaches his knees. Despite that, what really grabbed his attention was their appearances. Aside from the red eyes, they had fangs leaving the mouths, and their fins looked very sturdy and sharp. Leon's suspicions were right, many other monsters came to earth aside from dragons, and those fish looked like wanted to eat him.

"Now that I think about it… I don't feel all that itchy anymore…"

Leon made a mental note to check the other parts of the island the next day, but he wasn't expecting much. It looked like those weird fish had been there for quite a long time, somehow they could sense him, so they probably would chase him.

"Things were going too well… I guess it was time to find some problems."

Leon carved out arrows and practiced Earth Manipulation once he started to feel sleepy. Now that he had two plans and two ways to leave that island, he could work hard every moment of his waking life. However, since that day, he didn't move all that much. He wasn't all that tired, and while he was trying to sleep, he recalled the dire situation he was in and started to miss his family.

"Father, Mother, Amanda…"

Leon was trying really hard to forget the fact that he was alone on that island, but it was hard to keep his mind busy for so many hours straight. It was even harder to forget that he was alone in the night. Where one tends to recall his or her memories…

Leon made a mental note to move his body more the next day, in order to fall asleep as soon as he lay down. He was in a situation where he couldn't afford to feel lonely or worry about others. He had to focus every single nerve of his head on the task of returning home.

The next day, Leon woke up when he heard that familiar and unnerving roar. A dragon was nearby, and he started to tremble. His shelter was inside the forest, but anyone could see that by concentrating their eyes since it wasn't all that well-hidden. The chances were dim, but Leon could be rescued, so he had to live nearby the beach.

While he was trembling like a leaf, the sound of the dragon disappeared in the distance, but when Leon left his shelter, he saw a red thing disappearing in the distance.

"Another dragon that can spit fire…"

If possible, Leon didn't want to see any dragon much less a dragon that can spit fire for the rest of his life. Despite the fact that he survived a plane crash, he was aware that he wasn't all that lucky. It looked like he was destined to be tormented by them…

Thanks to the unpleasant surprise, the coconut Leon ate seemed a bit less delicious than usual. While he was eating, he noticed that the leaves that he planted had become a tree.

Baby Tree

Mana: 1/50Leon could also replant trees, so he didn't have to worry about firewood or someday running out of feedstock to create arrows. It looked like for the time being, those could grow by themselves, and he didn't need wood all that much anyway. So, he left it alone.

"I need more mana and recovery… if I obtain those, I will be able to practice earth manipulation and the other skills more and thus obtain more free status points. I did intend to increase my recovery, but if I increase my mana, the plan to run over water will have to be discarded… Now what?"

Leon had to make a hard choice; plan A and plan B were insane, but there was nothing more insane than dragons, and now they were on Earth. So, Leon had to be insane too. However, depending on his choice, he could end up increasing his time on that island a lot. The number of skills he could learn on that island was limited, and eventually, it would become seriously hard to level up them. So, it would become harder to obtain status points.

"... I don't have any choice. Although it seems that I can escape faster using plan A, I can't survive just by running. However, by using magic, I can fight."

Leon would have to wash his clothes and train the water manipulation, so the ocean was too small for those freak fish, and himself to live together, he had to obtain the power to defeat them... There was no other choice.

After using his free status points, Leon checked his status and skills. Now he could use a little more mana, and he would recover his mana completely after resting for just ten minutes. However, Leon was aware of the fact that he still had a long way to go.

"I will need to practice the Earth Manipulation a lot... since the earth returns to its place after just one minute, I have to change its properties while I can to construct a boat. First, mixing water and earth and then heat it to harden to make it durable. Creating a boat made of ice, I would have to use it only water and wind manipulation, but the ice will eventually melt, and I don't think I can live in a freezing boat for long."

Without wasting time, Leon started to train his Earth Manipulation. Since it would be more motivating to see his progress with his own eyes, he decided to dig a hole using that skill. Little by little, the hole was getting bigger, and little by little, he was becoming able to manipulate more earth since the level of that skill also influenced that.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Archery.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Concentrated Shot.

Just as Leon expected, he learned a new skill when he used the bow, and he learned another when he pulled the string to its limits. It was another skill that consumed stamina, but he could use it quite a lot. The problem was that every time he used that skill, the arrows would break. They were made just of wood, after all.

"I guess I should train just Archery, the Accuracy will level up as well, so that should be fine."

Leon had to spend several minutes to carve an arrow, so he couldn't treat them like disposable ammo. He also decided to add the power of Strong Arms in his shots, but his bow was so small and frail that he almost broke it. He would have to create a longbow to test that combination.

After leveling up his skills a few times, Leon decided to stop a little and train Dash. He didn't want to feel so bad before sleeping again, so he had to tire his body like that, and thanks to it, that night, he fell asleep before he could recall things that were beyond his reach.

The next day, Leon woke up hearing the sound of the rain. That surprised him, but he immediately got up and started to wash himself and his clothes using the rain. Just like the time he ate the first banana and drunk the coconut water, he felt revitalized. Now that he was away from civilization, those small pleasures were good enough to make his day.

"I guess it is hard to imagine when can rain in tropical zones…"

Leon was digging that hole with his mana in order to create a water reservoir. However, he didn't expect that it would rain so soon. Besides, he had to create a container made of water to keep his water clear, and he would have to use Earth and Water manipulation to do it. It would take a while, but he wouldn't losing anything by planning things with antecedence.

Surprisingly, it rained the entire day, and since his clothes were wet, Leon decided to spend the day inside his small shelter. The sea breeze and the coldness of the rain could quickly drain the heat from his body, and the last thing Leon wanted on that island was to get sick.

Thanks to the rain, Leon had the chance to train his Water Manipulation. It also looked like it was the best moment to create something and give a permanent shape combining the magic he could do. But again, he couldn't use fire yet to dry it.

"Ah… maybe I can use the fire of the campfire… but do I have to touch it?"

Leon wondered why he didn't think that sooner. Regardless, he probably didn't have to burn himself. The fire itself was just a combination of oxygen, heat, and fuel. So just approaching enough the flames and feeling the temperature should be enough to learn it, and just like Leon expected, it was true.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Fire Manipulation.

You obtained 01 status points.

It was complicated to manipulate fire since wind and fire were just gases with different properties that couldn't take a definite shape. Earth was the easiest to manipulate since one could see and feel clearly. Regardless, Leon would have a lot of time to master those. Besides, even though it was the hardest, he didn't truly have to manipulate fire. He could just use a torch and put it near the object he wanted to give shape.

"I have to train to use both at the same time, as well. I will have to analyze how much earth and water I will have to mix… perhaps it would be easier to create earth itself instead of just manipulating, that way I could give the shape I want without using the other elements. However, I have no idea how to do that…"

Leon learned how to transfer mana by chance, and thanks to that, he learned how to control some elements of nature, but he had no idea how to make his mana turn into something visible like earth. Based on the things he learned in chemistry classes, every type of thing had different compositions. If he had memories of those compositions, he perhaps could transform his mana into some element… then again, he had no idea how to change the structure of his mana.

"Well, considering that everything that happened so far has connections with game elements, perhaps when my Earth Manipulation reaches level one hundred, I will obtain the knowledge of how to create earth itself… probably."

One could only dream since it was for free, but Leon couldn't imagine the knowledge just popping inside of his head. While Leon was thinking about things, he created a sphere, and while his mana was keeping that shape, he approached a torch to harden it. When the minute ended, the sphere didn't disintegrate, so Leon picked it up. He used half of his current mana to create a mud ball of the size of a marble. It was a small achievement, but it was progress nonetheless.

"The shape isn't all that good, but… oh, well. Maybe I should try a new shape and create a bed. It will be better than wake up dirt with sand…"

It would be a good practice, so Leon made a mental note to improve his shelter by combining earth and water manipulation. His mana and recovery were increasing at a steady pace, so eventually, that would be possible.

The next morning, Leon woke up feeling hungry. He was recovering his average weight quite fast, but it looked like his diet was missing proteins. He woke up wishing to eat some meat.

"Meat, huh? Almost one week has passed since I came to this island… I guess it is time to hunt."

Bananas and coconuts were great, but Leon also needed proteins to return back to normal and to improve his body. Monsters lived nearby now, and there was no telling when the new monsters aside from those weird fish would come.

"Those things are as ugly as hell, but their meat doesn't look that bad… it should be edible. Hopefully, if they are not, I will obtain the poison resistance skill… if I don't die, that is."

Leon had plenty of arrows, and his accuracy got a little better. Besides, those fish weren't so far away. The chances of Leon killing them with a single arrow were quite high. The creatures were clearly visible in the shallow water, so he didn't waste much time aiming. Leon shot and hit the first fish, but the arrow didn't penetrate the fish body. In fact, Leon didn't even make the creature bleed.

"Damn… those things are sturdier than they look."

Bow and arrows with his current skills wouldn't help Leon to eat fish. However, he wouldn't give up after the first try. While using Earth Manipulation and Strong Arms, Leon created a hole in the foreshore. Fortunately, the tide on that island wasn't strong and didn't move all that much, so that hole would stay there for quite a while. His skills helped Leon quite a lot, but he stopped several times to rest.

"I guess I won't find any wreckage of that plane… my luck is terrible."

Leon still didn't find a single piece of the airplane after several days, so it was time to give up and keep acting without hoping for a magnificent tool to appear suddenly.

At noon, Leon finally finished the hole, now the just needed to make a passage to the ocean and his fish trap could be used. Fortunately, it looked like only that would be enough. Even without being seen, the closer Leon got to them, the more agitated those fish became. One of them even jumped from the ocean and fell on the sand before Leon could even finish the passage. Even after several minutes of struggling, the monster didn't look like it was about to die… they were fish but could survive outside of water.

"… I must bring a big rock before I finish this."

Leon found a rock that weighs over twenty kilograms and let it fall over the fish monster's face. Since the thing was too ugly, he didn't want to eat that part. Since he was hungry, Leon ate the fish before finishing the trap, the thing was quite big, so there was no point in catching another. That fish alone would be his lunch and dinner.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Cook.

Despite the fact that Leon only put a stick in the fish and toasted it in the campfire, he learned that skill. Also, despite its appearance, the monster was quite tasty. It was juicy to the point Leon thought he had used some seasonings.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Poison Resistance.

You obtained 01 status points.

Leon froze when he heard that, his health was still full, but his body recognized the poison within the fish. The poison was probable the juicy flavor Leon felt…

"Oh, man… it was so good."

For a while, Leon gave up on the idea of eating, but since he felt no changes in his health, mana, and stamina, he began to eat again.

Congratulations! The skill Poison Resistance has leveled up.

You obtained 01 status points.

By the time Leon felt full, the skill had leveled up again. Although it was insane eating something poisonous, he understood that skill could come in handy someday. Besides, he needed more status points, and as long as he doesn't feel anything weird with his body, it was fine. That only meant the poison was weak.

While Leon was preparing to resume his usual activities, he heard another roar. Without wasting time, he ran toward his shelter to hide. It was pathetic, but it had already become a habit at that point in time. Leon couldn't imagine himself facing a creature that could destroy airplanes, so the only thing he could was to hide and tremble in fear while hoping not to see noticed.

"Pathetic… is that it? Will I do this every time a monster appears from now on?"

If his bow and arrow couldn't do anything against those fish, it would be useless against anything. Aside from the points, he was receiving, there was no point in training with a bow, at least until he manages to build a better one, but it was impossible with the things available in that island.

"Increasing my mana and recovery will give me more chances to use magic… but it will not make me stronger. Should I try a different approach? Perhaps one of the other statuses will make me stronger and help my ability to manipulate earth…"

It was possible that Intelligence could help Leon in that regard, but then again, it would only make him strong in magic. For the peace of his mind, Leon also wanted to get physically stronger.

"Well, if I can't use free status, then I can only do it the hard way…"

Status points were convenient, but there was a chance that Leon could raise his status without relying on them. The world changed a lot, and if he could become stronger and smarter with the magic of status, he could also do the same in the normal way. Leon trained with his bow until the last arrow broke; after that, he began his physical training.

It was better to do several types of exercises to train his whole body, but before doing that, Leon had to confirm that he could get stronger doing things like push-ups. Now that his stamina had been quantified, he could do the same exact amount of push-ups before losing control over his body. However, even after that repeating itself several times. He didn't see any changes; he only received a notification after doing push-ups and collapsing like a madman after two hours.

Congratulations! Your Strength has increased by one point.

Since Leon could train his Earth Manipulation between push-ups sessions, it wasn't like a total waste of time, but he hoped that would happen much sooner.

"I guess not everything is that convenient… besides, I'm still recovering from my weight loss."

It was time-consuming, but it was a necessity. So, Leon decided to do push-ups until his strength increases at least one time every day. He also had to train his other skills, and one hour of practice was enough to grant him at least one free status point until they reach level five.

That night, Leon decided to practice combining Earth and Water Manipulation for a few hours, but after all those push-ups, he was so tired that he barely could keep his eyes open while was eating the fish he caught. Now that his days were filled with activities demanded a lot of him physically and mentally, the days grew shorter and the nights grew longer. At least his body would always awake at the moment the sun started to rise.

Leon was so tired that he didn't notice that fish bones were pretty sharp and durable and that those would make for good tips of weapons. He also didn't notice that land absorbed the bones when he threw them away after eating. He was just too tired to notice that.

When Leon woke up, he decided to do something different. He chose to mark on the nearby trees the number of days he had stayed on the island. It wasn't like because he felt like a prisoner in that place, but because he wanted something to remind him of his time lost on that island… he wanted something to give him a sense of urgency. Thus, he marked the tree where he built his shelter.

"One week, huh… Time sure flies."

It was weird to receive a notification at that moment, but that only showed to Leon that he was succeeding in not letting the situation get the better of him. Regardless, before anything else, he decided to finish his fish trap. He created a path large enough for a single fish pass with some difficulty, but once again, the moment he got too close, the fish jumped from the water toward him. Leon managed to fall back and avoid being hit by the fish and only saw the fish struggling near his feet again.

"Phew… that scared the crap out of me. Come to think of it… I didn't receive any notification after killing the first fish. I don't see a level in the screen, so I guess I can't level up, huh."

However, Leon did notice a change when he brought a rock to smash that fish's head. He checked his status screen and saw the very moment that his coins increased. Now, he had four.

"Mmm? I had decided to forget this since there was no way I would be able to kill a monster… but I guess I can obtain coins while killing even those fish… but how can I use those coins?"

Leon tried to click on the coins and concentrate his vision in it, but nothing happened. That meant he had to find a place where he would use those coins. However, he wouldn't be able to use it on that island.

"I guess I will put this aside again."

Maybe it could be useful later, but since it couldn't help Leon to leave that island, he decided to put that at the bottom of his list of priorities.

Now that Leon had found a way to increase his strength, he had also to find a way to make good use of that strength when the time comes. He considered a few possibilities; he could learn martial arts. Although he had no knowledge of how even punch properly, using the muscles of his back and things like that, he was pretty sure he would learn a skill related to it if he punches and kicks a tree a few times.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Martial Arts.

As expected, Leon's guess was right. Although it was another skill he could use to obtain a few free status points quickly, it wasn't something he could use against monsters like those fish. Leon didn't really want to put his defenseless limbs near those things while they are alive.

"I guess I will make a spear… and a staff."

Wood wasn't much useful to cause damage in the fish flesh, but if Leon makes a thick and heavy spear, it would be durable and more powerful. A staff would be more convenient to use because it could cause blunt damage and because it could be used with more ease to block attacks.

"It will take a while, but it will be worth the hassle."

The older the tree, the more durable its materials would be. However, Leon didn't have the means to chop down a big tree, so he looked for a few small ones. He also could raise a few until they become of the size he wants using his mana, but he decided to spend all his mana training Earth Manipulation alone.

Leon found a few trees that looked pretty good quite quickly, but he decided to chop them slowly. He only had a single improvised knife, and he didn't want to waste time looking for another similar stone any time soon.

After chopping the trees, Leon brought them to his camp. It was at that moment that he noticed that the fish bones had disappeared. A tree didn't appear in its place, of course, but the area around seemed more green than the surroundings… as if it was full of life force or, in that case, mana.

"I guess I can use the fish bones to make the trees I plant to grow faster… but I can also use their sharp bones and increase the power of my arrows."

Leon was aware that using the bones had a few limitations, but by breaking them in pieces, he could use those pieces in the tip of the arrows. However, he wondered if that would be fine, he didn't notice that before, but if he tries to kill the fish from a distance, he would have to approach the other ones to pick the dead fish…

"I will be safer if I use the spear."

Leon spent the entire day cleaning and making the surface of his new weapons flat; those could be his lifeline one day, so he couldn't afford to make any mistake while using them. An uneven part could make him lose the grip of his weapon, and that could be fatal.

After cleaning those thin logs, Leon spent the rest of the day doing push-ups until his strength went up once again. Leon had the impression that the push-ups got easier thanks to the fact that his strength increase, but he also felt that he had to do it for a longer time than the previous day.

Leon felt quite satisfied with his work, not only that; those two weapons were quite heavy, so he expected also to raise his Strength while he practices with those weapons. That being said, he had to test the result of his hard work into action and confirm if it was useful, after all. Leon approached the fish trap, and another fish jumped toward him. This time he stopped the creature with the backside of his spear, and when the monster fell on the ground, Leon used all his might and attacked with his spear.

"HA!…"

The test had been a success. Leon expected a little less from his weapon, but his weapon pieced the fish head quite easily, destroying it, and that was why he felt bad about it. The feeling of killing a living being while hearing the sound of flesh being torn apart was beyond unpleasant. That being said, that didn't stop Leon from using that fish as his lunch. It was unpleasant to hunt his food, but he was in a situation where he couldn't waste much time thinking about such things.

"Sorry, little fish, but you attacked me first, and despite being so ugly, you are delicious."

After lunch, Leon started to practice with his spear. Just as he had expected, moving that long and heavy weapon was making his stamina decrease at an astonishing pace. Regardless, after a few hours of training, Leon leveled up Spearmanship several times and also received a few pleasant news.

Congratulations! Your Strength has increased by one point.

Congratulations! Your Endurance has increased by one point.

"Phew… finally."

Leon felt on the ground thanks to the exhaustion, to use the spear for a longer time, he had to make good use of his lower body, and that was probably why he was so exhausted and why his endurance increased. The first two hours, he only felt tired and not a single bit of muscle aches, but now, Leon could hear every single muscle of his body screaming. The fatigue was still there, but the pain disappeared after ten minutes.

"I need to increase my stamina to make this kind of thing more efficient…"

Leon sighed, it was good to keep his mind busy, but finding too many things to do was also troublesome. Spending his mana and training Earth Manipulation was easy; he just had to control as much as the earth he can, and then the skill would slowly level up. However, even though it was one of his main objectives, Leon didn't feel satisfied with that, since he basically he only needed to train for one minute every ten minutes.

"I also need to think of a way to increase my mana without free status points… I probably can increase my stamina by running, but how can I increase mana? Studying? It would be nice if I could, but I'm quite certain that I can't increase my recovery without free status points."

Leon couldn't study, just thinking randomly about things wouldn't probably help either. However, there was one thing that could help Leon in that regard: meditation.

"That kind of zen stuff never picked my attention, but… it is worth a try."

Leon sat in the lótus position and closed his eyes, until now, he tried to keep his mind busy, and thanks to it, he had quite a hard time cleaning his mind. To make matters worse, every time. He forgot about the things he had to do to leave the island, Leon recalled the faces of his parents and little sister.

"Fantastic… great way to become depressed."

Leon sighed, but he wouldn't give up so soon. Eventually, he managed to clean his mind for all his problems and worries. After one minute in that state without thinking of anything, he received a notification.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Meditation.

You obtained 01 status points.

"I guess it won't be that easy… if this works like exercising my muscles, I will have to do this for at least two hours to confirm if this can increase my status. That being said… what this skill can do?"

Considering that Leon only learned the skill after a full minute without thinking about anything, he would have to stay in that state for a while to see what kind of status would increase if it could increase any status at all. Regardless, it was obvious that kind of action was deeply related to things like soul and spirit. Leon didn't see his mana increasing, so he decided to spent some mana and then meditate, and just like he had thought, Meditation was really related to soul and spirit. Due to the fact that mana was the power of mind or the soul, Leon recovered one mana point after that minute of meditation.

"The effect is quite meager, but it should get better the more I use it."

It would be better if Leon could meditate and train Earth Manipulation at the same time, but again, the world didn't become all that convenient.

When Leon woke up the next day, he noticed that now he could control an earth sphere that had the same size of a fist. Thanks to that, he had an idea and decided to do some experiments. First of all, he changed the shape of it and created a somewhat short dart. The form wasn't perfect, but it looked like the projectile of a crossbow.

"I guess I need to work on that after I finish my water container."

Leon made the dart fly around him, he tried to increase the speed, but it looked like it couldn't be much faster than himself. He also had to train his Earth Manipulation in that regard. Anyway, before Leon could run out of mana, he made the earth dart hit a tree. He heard quite a thud, but as expected, it barely scratched the tree, and the dart lost its shape and returned to the ground.

"I see… attacking using mana also decreases the amount of time the mana can be used."

Perhaps Leon could overcome that problem if he makes the earth denser or if he tries to compress it, but at that moment, that was beyond his abilities. He needed to train some more, but he could visualize that soon, he would be able to create a stone bullet and kill those fish. He wanted to take a shower again, but before that, he had to get rid of them. Leon recalled that on the first time he saw them, around twenty fish were looking at him, but despite having killed three, the number didn't decrease, it increased. Now around thirty fish were waiting for the moment he would enter the ocean and become their meal.

Since Leon had a lot of things he wanted to confirm, he only ran and meditated between the sessions where he trained Earth Manipulation, and his tests paid off again.

The paths to get stronger and increase his chances of survival were quite varied. Leon also noticed some interesting things after those tests. For example, he had to meditate for a certain time to increase his mana. That being said, he didn't have to do that a single time. He could divide that session into many parts; he discovered that because he didn't have enough concentration to keep his head empty for a long time…

The same logic applied to other stats. However, the less intense the activity, the less progress he would make; thus, Leon would need more time to raise them. Just like before, the secret of getting stronger was to push their bodies to the limit.

"Let's see… I found the way to increase mana and stamina, but how do I increase health?"

Following the same pattern of the other types of energy, Leon found two possibilities. However, both of them were very problematic. The first one was to inflict self-harm, and Leon didn't want to do it. He didn't want to increase his worries, and doing something like that, would also damage his mind…

As for the second, it was to fight against monsters, suffer wounds, and recover naturally. That being said, Leon didn't want to do that either. In a fight against that many fish in their habitat wouldn't end well.

"As I had expected… increasing health will be difficult since it is directly related to my life... No matter, eventually, I will find a way."

Although Leon couldn't find a less troublesome way to increase his health, it was a good idea to find a way to raise his other status. It was kind of hard to get smarter alone on an island without anything to read, so Leon knew he wouldn't be able to increase his intelligence easily either. Raising his dexterity probably wouldn't be easy, as well. Leon was aware that eventually practicing with the bow would help him that regard, but after practicing too many shots, nothing had happened.

It looked like raising his speed would be like building his dexterity. As for Mentality and luck, he had no idea of how to use or increase them.

"I will probably increase my control while using Earth Manipulation, but again, it will be time-consuming. Well, I should just try to learn new skills and wait for something good to happen while training them."

Since Leon was eager to take another shower and had no idea when it would rain again, he decided to stop digging the hole using Earth Manipulation and begun his training of compressing earth.

"Let's see… compress, compress. Concentrate all the earth in a single place as much as possible… Mmm…"

Like everything Leon did so far, he wouldn't learn overnight, but every small step was a progress that eventually would lead him to perfection. Little by little, Leon improved the shape and the sturdiness of that ball of earth. Four days later, he finally felt satisfied with the result of his practice. Using an earth sphere that had the same size of a marble, he hit a tree and caused a large crack in it. It was so sturdy that the sphere could be mistaken as a small iron ball since it made the three shake for several seconds.

However, that wasn't enough. Leon spent four more days controlling the sphere and increasing its speed little by little until it had the same speed of his arrows. On the morning of his seventeenth day on that island, Leon woke up feeling like he wanted to play with the fish and also feeling like he could kill all the fish of the ocean to take a bath.

While Leon was preparing to kill those fish with magic alone, he compiled everything he learned the past week. Although he didn't learn new skills, all his stats with the sole exception of luck had increased. Training Dash not only improved his stamina but now and then also increased his speed. Training the speed of his earth sphere also increased his dexterity and control. Meditation also increased his intelligence now and then… and his non-stop and single-minded training made Leon increase his mentality and willpower.

Leon progressed quite a lot in the last few days, but it was getting hard to level up his skills. Even Earth Manipulation that he used dozens of times every day was progressing very slowly. Although his control and precision while using increased it, he still had a long way ahead of him. Leon barely could create a sphere with the size of a soccer ball, after all. Regardless, he was feeling quite confident that he would exterminate those fish and take a bath that day.

Leon approached the ocean and concentrated; he had to use all his mana to control a sphere with the sturdiness and speed he felt satisfied with. Their numbers were now close to forty, and even though Leon could easily kill all of them using the fish trap, he was determined to do it using magic alone.

"Let's see if those days practicing didn't turn out to be a waste of time."

It was hard to make something sturdy of sand or mud, so Leon made the sphere out of the ground in the forest. Although much mana was used to control even a small object like that, there were a few advantages. For example, as long as the target couldn't move at stupid speeds, Leon would always hit, just like he did. On his first try, one of the fish got hit in the head and died instantly.

"Ah… don't go away."

The dead fish started to bleed and slowly was returning to the ocean, the tide was weak, but it could do that. Leon wanted to make a stock of fish in case he doesn't find them again, but it couldn't be helped. He wouldn't enter their habitat and put himself in danger for food. Leon tried to move the sphere of earth inside the fish head to bring it to him, but he gave up when his mana almost became empty.

"I can finally defeat them from a safe place… but it is troublesome that I can only do that only once each ten minutes."

It was troublesome, but it was an alert not to let Leon get ahead of himself. He obtained some crazy abilities, but he wasn't powerful. In the end, the job of killing the fish became quite a boring one. They were stupid and didn't have ranged attacks, so they could only die without being able to do anything. Unfortunately, almost every single one of them was taken away by the tide. Only the last one became Leon's lunch and dinner; despite that, he didn't drop his guard. His objective was to clean his clothes and wash his body, so he waited for a few minutes. Only after half an hour, he felt safe to enter the ocean and clean himself, but he didn't relax for a second.

Although there was no one around, Leon felt quite troubled to train naked while waiting for his clothes to dry. Regardless, he couldn't afford to wait. More than two weeks had passed since the crash, and he barely had the power to kill a fish that looked like slime in comparison to dragons.

"I meditated a lot these last few days to increase my mana… but the growth is so meager. Shall I spend more time using my body than just staying still?"

Despite the fact that he was increasing his mana without relying on free status alone, Leon was feeling like he was wasting time sitting for two hours doing nothing. He was getting impatient, there was no sign of the airplane wreckage, and Leon didn't see airplanes or ships passing nearby. The only things he saw in the last weeks were dragons and fish… he was getting really impatient.

"It is obvious that I have to rely on magic to return home… but how long will I have to train on this damn island? I don't want to spend years here only to return home and find my own grave in my hometown's cemetery!"

Leon breathed in and out several times to calm himself; there was no point in getting angry. He only had to keep training, and eventually, he would have the skills to return home.

Since he was overthinking, Leon decided to spend the rest of the day training with the staff and spear instead of meditating. He was thinking of useless things because he had too much energy to spend. It was time to train until he collapses from fatigue.

In the end, Leon thanked himself for that, because the next day when he woke up, he found his new neighbors: a group of fish that were blue, had tridents, and could walk.

Leon started to wonder if he was still sleeping when he saw those monsters, but those thoughts disappeared from his head when he saw those creatures' red eyes, their sharp fangs, and fins. Adding to that, Leon saw the corpses of the fish behind those three visitors.

"Ah… They are their evolved forms…"

Leon slowly started to walk backward, those creatures lost the chance to catch him by surprise, but they still looked ready to fight and looking for the main culprit of the death of those fish.

While those creatures were waiting for something, like a divine revelation from the heavens telling them that Leon was the culprit, he decided to move. He dashed, grabbed his wood spear, and prepared himself to fight. He had yet to learn how to swing that weapon properly, but he had no other option but to learn while fighting. Leon didn't want to run and show his back to those creatures.

At the same moment, Leon grabbed the spear, one of the two-legged fish opened its mouth and shot a water ball as fast as an arrow. Leon managed to react in time and block the projectile, but he felt his arms aching after the impact. If that hit him directly…

"Oh, shit… why now? I barely have decent weapons or magic powerful enough to fight. Damn it!"

There was no meaning in getting mad, he didn't expect that, but the corpses lured those creatures to this place. Oblivious to Leon's concerns, another fish jumped and prepared to impale him with its trident. Leon started to sweat cold, contrary to his piece of trash weapon, that trident looked terrific. It looked like it had been made by a blacksmith that have magical skills and the things even emanated a blue glow.

It was no time to admire the enemy's weapon, so Leon transfused his mana using his legs and created a small earth sphere. That thing looked far more powerful than the fish, but he could kill it in a single strike, he just had to destroy its brains through its mouth. However, Leon stopped, he couldn't use his skill like that, he could use only once, and there were two other monsters. To make matters worse, Leon noticed another monster preparing to spit a water ball.

"Give me a break!"

Leon prepared his spear to block the water ball and made his earth sphere hit the face of the second monster. He held back, so only a part of his mana had been used. Despite that, his attack stopped the monster charge and made the creature fall near him, dizzy. Leon blocked the water ball, once again, he endured the pain, but he felt shivers when he heard the sound of his spear cracking.

"No way…"

It wouldn't last long, so Leon had to act fast. Without a hint of hesitation, he pierced the head of the fallen monster with his spear, killing it. After that, he combined Strong Arms and Throw to attack another monster who jumped to attack him. His attack barely caused damage since the tip of the spear didn't hit anything, but it gave Leon enough time to pick the trident of the dead monster.

With the trident in his right hand and controlling the earth sphere with his left, Leon faced the monsters. The difficulty level decreased a bit, but he still was in a race against time, soon his mana would dissipate, and he would lose control over the earth sphere. Despite being fish monsters, the creatures flinched when they saw Leon controlling a small sphere of earth, it was small, but it was enough to stop their change. They were smart, Leon couldn't underestimate them, but they couldn't underestimate Leon either. The two creatures looked at each and nodded; one second later, they opened their mouths.

"Ah, come on!"

Leon charged forward because he didn't want to make their work any easier. He threw the trident with all his might toward the first monster and ran toward the second while using his left arm to protect his face. Half a second later, Leon got hit and felt his left arm snapping like twigs.

"Ugh!"

For some reason, he only got hit once, when he lowered his broken arm, he saw that the trident had hit the interior of the monster's mouth. The creature didn't die, but it was bleeding and in pain. Before he could lose the chance, Leon made the earth sphere hit the face of the monster that attacked him. Once again, he held back; he didn't want to collapse due to mana exhaustion.

His attack made the monster stagger, and Leon attacked it with a drop-kick. The creature fell, and Leon fell over it, he got lucky because that sealed the creature's movement and even gave him the chance to steal its weapon. He did it and tried to hold the trident with both hands, but he lost control over his left arm. So, he only attacked using his right. Again and again, he attacked, little by little, the trident pierced the creature's flesh. Blood fell over him and near him like rain, but he didn't stop, not even when the creature stopped moving. He only stopped when his stamina ended, and he fell exhausted. He got lucky once again because his throw killed the second monster…

Even after he recovered his stamina, Leon was breathing with difficulty. Covered in blood, he looked like a maniac. He only returned to his usual self when the pain in his left arm began to bother him.

Leon trembled, he just killed three intelligent creatures, he had just survived a battle to the death with them… they were monsters, but their blood was also red. Their blood was warm… Leon killed the monsters from a similar species the previous days like it was nothing. He only thought them as a food… but now, he became aware of the fact that they were in the same position. They both were at the lowest part of new food chain.

Before anything, Leon went to the ocean and checked for enemies, a few more of those fish had appeared, but he killed them. At that point in time, there was no meaning in hesitating. The war between humans and monsters had already started, and his hands were already dirty with blood.

Enduring the throbbing pain in his left arm, Leon washed his body in the ocean. He didn't know if the blood would attract other creatures, but he couldn't care less, he didn't want to stay dirty with their blood. After that, he fixed the position of his arm so that it could heal. As if Leon had become a monster himself, his arm returned to normal after ten seconds. That was the power of the recovery.

"Don't think about it, don't think about it…"

Leon returned to the corpses of the monsters he had killed and grabbed their tridents. Those would be useful if others try to attack him, but first, he had to get used to that weapon. Now that his head was cool, he noticed that the monsters were quite short. They were only 1,20 meters tall, and their body wasn't that impressive. Despite that, they could jump five meters height easily. Their tridents were on the short side, so Leon would be able to use both in each hand. But first, he had to discover what that blue glow in them was.

"Come to think of it… I think I saw a monster similar to these in a game. What was the name again?"

Sahuagin's Trident

It grants the user the skill Water Ball.

Cost: 05 mana

Cooldown time: 05 seconds.

While Leon was busy trying to refresh his memories, the analysis skill activated. Sahuagin was the name of those monsters, but to think that a weapon could grant someone the ability to use magic… Leon couldn't but think that he just wasted time learning all the skills. However, based on his experience, he was pretty sure that skill wasn't that convenient.

"I have to check…"

Leon used the skill, a water ball flew from the tip of the trident and hit the tree he chose. However, unlike his earth sphere, it didn't even damage the tree that he hit, it only slightly shook. Not only that, but Leon also didn't learn the skill, and he couldn't control it either. It was like a gun; he just has to aim and pull the trigger. It was convenient, but that wouldn't help him with his goal to go back home.

"Tch… at least it is sharper than my spear."

Now that Leon had three very sharp spears, he could work with more ease to improve his shelter. However, the only thing he was thinking about was the possibility of another attack done by those monsters. He was in the middle of the Pacific ocean, but it was clear that those monsters had an underwater base nearby.

"A fence won't help if more of those monsters come, and it will take too much time to build it… I guess I will have to move to the center of the forest and create several traps around."

It was troublesome, but it was the only way. Otherwise, Leon wouldn't be able to sleep soundly at night. The island wasn't all that big, so walking to the beach wasn't a problem. Leon spent the rest of the day moving his shelter to the center of the island. After that, he checked all the surroundings and marked the paths the monsters would most likely use to explore the island and look for him. Digging holes would be easier now that he was physically stronger and could use Earth Manipulation; the problem was making almost invisible traps.

"I will find a way; I will die if I don't."

Leon didn't know why, but monsters didn't come to attack him during the night. It was probably due to the fact that he didn't kill all that much fish the previous day and because the corpses of those three were absorbed by the trees Leon planted. Regardless, he spent the day digging holes around the island, the next day he chopped down several trees and made stakes and finally, on the third day after that battle, he put those stakes in the holes.

Leon wondered how that skill would help him, but he didn't complain since he obtained several status points. In the end, the best thing Leon managed to do was to put some branches inside the holes and put leaves above to hide the hole. It was so obvious and cringy that Leon couldn't help but frown while looking at it. At least at night was impossible to notice.

Although that forest was quite dense, Leon decided to make his water reservoir near his new camp. He would find a way to make the water from several spots run toward his tank, so it was fine. Although it was a pain to start from scratch, it was necessary.

While Leon was digging the hole and thinking of making a bathtub made of earth, suddenly, the entire island started to shake.

"Woah, Woah… what the hell is going on now?"

It was an earthquake; it was so intense that Leon even fell on the ground. Several coconuts and bananas also fell, but Leon was more worried about what would come next. An earthquake near the ocean was never a good sign…

"Please don't come, please don't come…"

That island was pretty close to the epicenter of the earthquake, so pretty soon it came… a tsunami.

"Jesus Christ… I'm screwed."

Coming from the west, Leon felt intense winds before he could see even the wave. He looked around, trying to find a sturdy tree that could endure the impact. Unfortunately, not a single tree looked that sturdy. They seemed pretty young as if it wasn't the first time a tsunami had hit that island. Regardless, Leon hugged with all his strength the largest tree he found. He had to endure the strength of the ocean, and he couldn't let the water push himself, or he would die.

As if those trees were sticks, several of them got knocked down by the wave. Leon didn't waste time thinking that those were literally the trees that could only produce the fruits and the water he could eat and drink. When the wave hit him, he only thought about his family. The wave tried to push him, but he endured using Strong Arms. Several trees hit him while being pushed by the wave, bones started to break at an alarming rate, but Leon endured it all while seeing the image of his family engraved in his mind. They were all smiling, but then the image in his head started to burn, the more pain he felt, the more the image burned. Leon didn't want to think about it; he avoided thinking of that possibility… but it was clear that monsters had invaded the world and were destroying his hometown, his homeland. That much was clear because he didn't see a single airplane or ship in three weeks, even though he was supposed to be near their routes.

Eventually, the trees stopped hitting him and breaking his bones, but the ocean was still trying to push him. Much to his surprise, several trees endured the wave, and after five minutes, it finally stopped. Almost every single bone in his lower body had been broken, despite having the chance to sit down and breath, Leon didn't do it, because that would only cause him pain. He decided to wait in that same position for his body to heal, but then… the wind came again.

"Oh, shit…"

It was a bad joke; it had to be… to think that a second wave would come. Leon was exhausted since he used his stamina as much as possible, and now he had to endure the second wave with low health and low stamina. In the end, Leon just clenched his teeth.

It has been quite a while since the time Leon had leveled up that skill, but he leveled up twice in the next few minutes while the ocean was treating his broken bones pretty badly. Since Leon didn't have time to fix the positions of his bones, when his body healed, it only recovered a few wounds. The broken bones just stayed like that. As if that wasn't enough… Leon started to feel hungry. It was the price to heal his body faster, calories…

When the second wave was over, Leon clenched his teeth again and sat down, embracing the pain. He had to fix the positions of his bones as soon as possible, that would be painful, but it couldn't be helped… that day was one of those bad days everyone has to face now and then…

When Leon was about to start fixing his legs, he heard the wind, and his heart sunk. That was too much… what was the point of all that? Why struggle so much? He was doomed, no one would rescue him, and the chances of him escaping that island were stupidly low… he would have an easier time growing wings. Leon sighed… he never considered himself a mentally weak person, but he felt quite disappointed with himself. After just three weeks alone, he was already about to give up.

"I'm so pathetic…"

Always running away and always choosing the less painful path… always trying to do things to feel good about himself. Pathetic flaws… but thanks to those pathetic flaws that Leon found the strength to hug the tree again. He didn't want to die in the stomach of a shark; at the very least, he wanted to die out of the ocean. If he had to choose where he wanted to die, he wanted to die in prison, not in the fence. With those thoughts in mind, Leon survived the third wave and stayed on the island.

Several hours had passed since the tsunami; it was night, and Leon was watching the starry sky in the same position he felt after the tsunami ended. The bones of his lower body were still broken, but he didn't feel like fixing them anytime soon. He just felt like staring at the starry sky that he could see now clearly, even in the middle of the forest… all thanks to the fact that the tsunamis destroyed eighty percent of that island vegetation.

Leon didn't sleep that night; he only stared at the sky while thinking once more how small and powerless he was. Now he could put in his curriculum that he survived an airplane crash and a tsunami, but those achievements meant nothing to him. Even after doing that, he couldn't go back home and confirm with his own eyes the safety of his parents and little sister. He was so weak and pathetic that he couldn't deal with some water and earth that had not even mind themselves.

When the sun rose, Leon decided that it was time to stop complaining. The ways he thought to return home were stupid, but doing nothing was even more stupid. Leon fixed his legs and then started to analyze the damage. He lost everything; he didn't have time to grab the Sahuagins Tridents. Leon would have to start from scratch again.

"... There are a few coconuts and banana trees; I can replant them to increase their numbers if I need to."

His mana had grown a lot, and with his recovery, Leon could create a decent stock of food if he wants to, but he didn't feel the urge to do it at that moment. With luck, that earthquake may have destroyed those monster's base, but Leon didn't want to rely on luck any longer, so he remade his traps. After that, he made another knife, but this time he made one using magic in order to create something far sharper. Leon hurried to give the shape and burn the mud. In the end, he succeeded in making the mud becoming as hard as a rock. It was all thanks to compressing it as much as possible, it was small, but it was better than his previous knife. Despite his success, Leon felt nothing.

"Well, those knives have a pretty good balance... shall I make some throwing knives? It will be faster to use them than making the tip of a single spear. Besides, I can train Earth and Fire Manipulation at the same time."

Leon felt like he could make something better and more convenient, but his mind wasn't working at full speed yet. So, he decided to do the first things that came to mind. Increase his stamina and train Fire and Earth Manipulation while making those throwing knives.

Eventually, after making a few dozen throwing knives, Leon got tired of it and began to meditate, even though it was quite easy using magic without thinking of anything. Before, he felt like meditating was a waste of time, but now it was quite convenient. He didn't want to do anything or think of anything, after all.

For the next few days, Leon just did that, meditate and train Earth and Fire Manipulation, he lost some weight to recover from his wounds, but he didn't feel like eating either. He didn't even try to put the throwing knives he created to good use. Things only started to change when he was checking his traps and saw some weird plants he hadn't seen before on that island.

"Mmm?"

When Leon touched it, he felt a weird reaction, he felt like the plant was trying to give him something invisible, but it failed. When Leon focused his eyes in that plant, Analysis skill activated, and a blue screen appeared before Leon.

Blue Angel

A medicinal herb capable of healing tired souls. Its leaves can restore the mana of those who eat it.

Leon frowned when he read that, how could a plant restore mana. It was only possible if that plant was... from the same place the monsters came. Leon was pretty sure he hadn't seen those plants before, and that meant that the tsunami brought the spores of that plant to the island.

"I wonder if I can replant this plant leaves and create more of them... I will only know if I try."

That plant had five leaves, Leon carefully picked them in order not to kill the plant and plant the leaves nearby that one. That plant was blue, Leon tried to look for similar plants, but he only found two others a red and a green one. Their descriptions and effects were pretty much the same.

Red Angel

A medicinal herb capable of healing the wounded body. Its leaves can restore the health of those who eat it.

Green Angel

A medicinal herb capable of healing the tired body. Its leaves can restore the stamina of those who eat it.

Leon did the same, picked the leaves, and replanted them near the first plant. The next day Leon found some sprouts in the places he planted the leaves. However, he couldn't accelerate their growth by transfusing his mana. Those plants could only absorb the mana from the land.

"Well, I knew it couldn't be that convenient."

Despite that, Leon was looking forward to the growth speed of those plants, the tsunami had happened five days ago, so it was possible that they could become adult plants in five days… if Leon could obtain mana from hundred of those plants, he would be able to train his Earth Manipulation much more.

While Leon was waiting for those plants to grow, he decided to do a few tests. He made a few pretty decent throwing knives when he was moping around, but he wasn't sure if that was because his mind wasn't thinking about anything or if it was due to something else. His mana and Earth Manipulation didn't grow all that much in that short amount of time, but he felt now that he had more control over it.

"Is the control stat helping me? I thought that would only influence my control while moving objects and projectiles, not in the creation of things..."

Since his control grew while he was training the speed of the earth sphere, he concluded that was the case, and he was still thinking that was the case. That was why he decided to do some tests. Before, when his strength increased, he felt that his wood spear had gotten lighter. That meant, strength increased his physical power. But what about its intelligence? That increased his magic power? That was why he got more skillful faster than usual? That was what Leon wanted to know.

Since doing many things at the same time would make Leon have a hard time reaching a conclusion. He decided to meditate and increase his intelligence until the plants grow. Five days later, his intelligence and mana increased by twelve points, and when he tried to create a weapon, he noticed that now he had the power to create a knife of the size of his forearm. It wasn't really a knife; it was already a short-sword. The shape wasn't perfect, but he even received a new notification.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Blacksmith.

You obtained 01 status points.

Leon wondered why he didn't receive that notification sooner, but it was probably because he didn't think of creating weapons when he made the throwing knives, he just gave a random shape and repeated the process many times.

"I thought this isn't metal; the system is treating this like weapon creation, huh."

Since Leon just burned earth, his weapons looked had been carved out of volcanic rocks. Since it was durable, it could cut and pierce things with the help of brute strength, but it was far from the level of the Sahuagins' Tridents.

Regardless, Leon knew now that he could improve his magic powers by meditating alone. That being said, he couldn't just meditate all day long. While thinking of a way to implement that new piece of information in his routine, Leon walked to the place where he planted the Blue Angels, and there he found six adult plants, and each one had five leaves on them.

"Five days, five leaves, huh. It will take a while, but if I manage to find a way to store those and transport them with me, perhaps I won't have to rely on my recovery so much."

Leon checked the other plants and confirmed that the green and red ones also only needed five days to become adults. To test their effects, Leon used his mana and ran around the island. After eating a single leaf, he recovered ten points of mana and stamina. It was better than he thought, and those were also quite delicious. The blue one tasted like a grape and the green one like lemon.

"I guess now, and then I can use them as seasonings to make those fish tastier."

Before doing that, Leon decided to plant all those leaves. Although the tsunami caused considerable damage to Leon's mind, things were starting to work well again. That being said, there was a chance that another earthquake could happen and cause another tsunami. So, Leon decided to create a chest made of earth and bury it underground to protect samples of those plants. He was pretty sure those would be essential from now on, so he couldn't afford to lose them.

Now that Leon's mind was working well again, he thought of a few things to do. It was a pain, but since he was practicing his skills while he was at it, he planted several random trees around and made them grow using his mana. All that was to create a natural fortress and to protect him from the rain. The forest became even denser than before thanks to it, after that, he planted a few other trees only to chop them off. He didn't want to wait for rescue, but in the dim chance that someone may approach the island, he decided to put messages on the four cardinal points of that place. Using trees, he connected several of them together, making the word HELP.

Now that Leon could create some pretty big weapons, he decided to make his life more convenient in order for him to have as much time as possible to train his magic. First of all, there was no meaning in making a house per se now that the dense forest worked pretty well as a roof, so Leon only needed walls. It would be nice if he could create walls made of wood that could withstand a tsunami, but that was a bit unrealistic. In any case, he started to plant trees, help them grow, and chop them down. After a few days, Leon managed to build a wall that was twenty meters long and wide. That would be his last line of defense, but before trying to make his another line of defense, he made a small pool and an aqueduct connecting the sea to it. Leon made it small so that those fish couldn't cross, and thanks to that, now he could clean himself every day.

Well, I guess I need to make a supply of clean water."

Rain in that part of the ocean was unpredictable as always; sometimes it would rain an entire day, sometimes it would rain for half an hour. Regardless, Leon had to make good use of it. Leon had to work for a while, but he managed to find the points where it would be easier to gather water and connected those points to his camp using aqueducts. Since he could create an infinite amount of trees, something like that wasn't trouble. Just a bit time-consuming.

Leon even started to wonder if it was a good idea to plant as many trees as possible in case another tsunami happens. He just had to dig and plant those trees, so their roots would be profound and perhaps could withstand the power of a few tsunamis. However, Leon gave up on the idea because if his plain fails, all those trees would push him to the ocean. The plan was sure to backfire him.

Although Leon didn't need to go to the ocean anymore unless he wanted to eat fish, he would go there every day, and each time he killed all those fish even if he those he wouldn't be able to eat. He didn't know when, but Leon was sure those coins would be useful someday. One of those days, Leon had an idea, perhaps he wouldn't be able to cross the ocean by swimming, but it was a good idea to learn the skill and train it a little.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Swim.

You obtained 01 status points.

Leon tried different types of swimming styles, but he didn't learn any skills by doing so. However, when he dived for a few seconds, he learned a new one.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Underwater Resistance.

You obtained 01 status points.

Leon felt satisfied with and for a time enjoyed the view, but soon he lost interest and hurried to the shore because a new group of fish was approaching.

"I don't know how, but I guess they can feel my presence... that scared the crap out of me."

Leon's control over the water wasn't anywhere near his Earth Manipulation, but he managed to use it to increase his swimming speed, and with the help of Strong Arms, he escaped the ambush.

The next days passed without anything happen; it looked like the earthquake really had destroyed the sahuagins' base or something like that. Every day he killed dozens of fish to be able to swim and level up his skills, but the evolved ones never came.

At a fearsome pace, the island was becoming more colorful thanks to those new plants. However, at some point, Leon decided to stop planting every single new leaf since that was too time-consuming, and he only needed more mana. So, Leon chose to replant only the blue angel leaves. While storing the red leaves in case something happens and occasionally using the green leaves to train his body.

However, after one month, Leon stopped replanting the blue angel leaves as well. Even though he could train and eat the leaves white collecting them, it was too time-consuming. He had more than two thousand of those plants, and that meant that he could eat the same amount of leaves every day forever, and he wouldn't run out of them, but to do, he had to spend an entire morning eating something very sweet. He wasn't getting fat thanks to his exercise routine, but his stomach wasn't that big.

"I guess it is finally time to make a few prototypes of boats."

Leon knew the design of a simple boat, but since it would be made of earth, he had to make a few adaptations. Thanks to the level of his skills and his supply of blue angel leaves, he could make a simple boat in one hour, and by making the earth becoming something like volcanic stone, he didn't have to spend mana on maintaining the boat's shape. However, he found a few problems.

"It is durable, but it is heavy... I will have to put some air containers under the boat, but I can't make them very thick, or it will be useless. I also have to train my Wind Manipulation; if I want to reach Asia as soon as possible, I can't rely on natural winds alone..."

The boat was heavier than Leon thought, so probably a sail made of coconut leaves wouldn't help all that much. He had to make a sail made of the same material as the boat because if in the middle of the trip something to the sail happens, he would be doomed.

"A paddle made of stone will be heavy... if even I bring with me some of those green leaves, it won't be enough. It will be especially dangerous if I get attacked while using a paddle."

In the end, the answer was to make everything thinner, but that was also dangerous because the thinner the boat, the frailer it would be. Leon thought that in a month or two, he would have the skills to leave the island. However, he couldn't be more wrong. He needed to make the boat sturdy but light enough for a single blast of wind to make it move several meters at a decent speed. That only meant one thing, Leon had to train his skills even more until he reaches that level of mastery. It looked like he wouldn't eat anything but blue angel leaves for a while. He had no other choice but to eat until he is about to puke if he wanted to return home as soon as possible.

Leon trained his skills diligently to one day create the boat that he wanted. However, he also had to prepare for the worse in case he couldn't create such a ship. He had to have a plan B; his plan B was to run over water, and now that he had a massive supply of green leaves, he didn't need to increase his stamina, he just needed to increase his speed. That being said, his stamina would increase while he tries to increase his speed, anyway.

Since Leon now could use blue angel leaves to recover his mana, he decided to put fewer points in recovery. However, recovery was something natural that happened periodically, so it wasn't a good idea to neglect that stat.

"I should run for a few days to test if that is really possible..."

Leon grabbed several green angel leaves and ate them whenever his stamina decreased. In the past, he thought that he would be able to run at his top speed indefinitely if his recovery and stamina reach one hundred points, but he was wrong. The faster he got, the more stamina he had to use. That being said, it wasn't something that bothered him now that he had those leaves.

Although it was boring, the days Leon passed meditating passed rather quickly. In comparison, the fifteen days Leon spent running; he felt like he was in hell. He only ran during the day and paused several times, but the muscle aches made sure that he wouldn't feel bored. Regardless, after fifteen days of training like that. Leon finally obtained the speed to run over water.

"Oh, boy... I can't believe this."

Leon had no idea what the hell was going with Earth, but it was definitely something bad now that humans could obtain the power to do something like that after a few months of training. Regardless, the first part of the test was complete, Leon confirmed that when he outran those fish that he always ate. There was a chance that he would find faster monsters if he try to leave the island by running over water, but that wasn't something he would think of now. Since he only had to use stamina to run over water, he could use mana to attack the monsters that may approach.

"Now, the next phase is... run over water with a box made of stone."

Leon tried to create a box as thin as possible, but with his skills, he only managed to create one that was as thick as his fingers. If he tried to make one thinner than that, several cracks would appear around the box. It goes without saying, but the box would be used to carry the green angel leaves.

"This is uncomfortable as hell..."

Leon created a box that had the same size as a backpack, and since it was all made of earth, the surface of it was so rough that it could easily peel Leon's skin. Nevertheless, he had to endure that. Leon tried to run with it on the beach and noticed that he had lost a lot of his speed, the box had almost fifty kilograms so that it couldn't be helped.

After confirming that Plan B was plausible, Leon decided to return to his usual routine of training his most essential skills equally while thinking of new ways to leave the island. He couldn't spend too much time focusing on a single plan, otherwise, if he fails, he may become depressed again, and the next time he could really give up. He had to create several plausible plains before putting them into practice to keep his hope alive.

After several days of thinking while training, Leon finally had a new idea. One day, he just suddenly recalled his carefree high-school days and the time he spent playing games. In many of those games, Leon had to pass by some floating platforms... that gave him the idea that he could avoid the ocean altogether. But instead of creating several platforms that would make him cross the ocean, it was much more convenient to create a single and move it around using his mana. It was like he would drive a flying car... but the car would be just a piece of ground big enough to let him sit.

"Another crazy idea... but with blue angel leaves, perhaps..."

Leon decided to test it; he transferred his mana to a piece of land and compressed it to make it sturdy enough to endure his weight. It was very thin but sturdy and large enough to let him sit with his legs crossed. Unfortunately, thanks to his weight, his mana was consumed much faster. At this rate, he could barely maintain that piece of earth flying over ten seconds...

"If I eat a blue angel leaf, I can increase my time on it for a second, but... I need to train more."

Leon put that idea on the list of stupid but plausible plans, once again, the only answer he had was to keep training.

Before Leon could notice, four months had passed since his life on that island started. Since he was always focused on his training and thinking of new ways to return home, he didn't notice how fast time was passing. While Leon was staring at the marks he put on the tree showing how many days he spent on that island; he had another idea that made him forget about the time he spent there.

"Mmm... maybe I can control the wind and create something like a suit that will grant me the skill to fly."

Leon's control over element earth was still far from perfect and controlling wind was harder, but he wouldn't know if it was impossible or not unless he tries. As it turned out, Leon did it. It required a stupid amount of time concentrating, but he could make the wind envelop his body. However, just as he had expected, soon, he found a few problems. Using wind, he could levitate and could even maneuver his body in mid-air, but he couldn't do it for long. Not only that, the moment the wind covered his body, he almost lost contact with everything. He couldn't feel the sand, the heat, or the outside air. Thus, he couldn't eat blue angel leaves to keep the wind around his body.

"I can't cover my entire body... I guess I should only cover my torso."

Leon also tried that, but by doing so, he couldn't carry the backpack made of stone, and he couldn't carry the blue angel leaves. He tried to control the wind to cover only the front side of his torso, but then he lost completely the ability to fly. He only could levitate without moving.

"Ah... it is impossible... maybe if I someday learn how to create wind, perhaps I will be able to fly by using it the like propulsors, but until then... it is impossible to escape flying."

Leon put that plan at the bottom of his list of plans; he had no idea how to create earth, and the chances of him learning how to create wind before earth were close to none.

"Maybe I should change my approach... instead of trying to make my mana become earth, I should use mana to change earth first..."

That kind of thing still was part of the Earth Manipulation, so it would help Leon train the skill. It wouldn't be a waste of time, but Leon had no idea how to do it. Leon tried to do that for two weeks until he decided that he was making a mistake somewhere. Several more days passed while Leon was trying to discover where he was failing. Fortunately, his memories gave him a good hint. He recalled his battle against the Sahuagins and the single time he used the water ball. Leon didn't notice when the monsters attacked, but when he used the skill, he saw the water ball appearing in front of him. However, the water ball didn't suddenly appear. Only a small droplet of water appeared at first, it was hard to notice because the ball would increase its size stupidly faster.

"I see now... I can't just change a whole object suddenly. I have to do it in parts..."

That was a valuable hint, perhaps with that, Leon couldn't even learn how to transform his mana into earth, but first, he decided to change what he could see.

"Calm down, calm down... baby steps, baby steps."

To start from the absolute beginning, Leon moved to the beach, and there he dirt his hand with sand. It was easy to see the grains of sand in his hand, so he decided to change those that got stuck in his hand. He barely used any mana to obtain control over those grains, but that wasn't his objective, he had to change those grains of sand.

After a while, the grains of sand were floating above Leon's hand, and his hand was completely clean. It looked like just seeing and wishing for the grains to change wasn't enough. Leon had to do something else…

"Now what…"

While Leon was pondering, he had an idea. What if while he is using Earth Manipulation, he isn't actually manipulating earth, what if he was manipulating his mana and his mana was manipulating earth? When he thought that, it became clear why he had to use more mana to keep controlling the earth.

"Do I need to put more mana?"

Leon tried to infuse more mana into the grains of the sand, but nothing happened. However, when he did it again while wishing for the grains of sand to become steel, he ended up spending a lot of mana, and the white sand became grey.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Earth Transformation.

You obtained 01 status points.

"Finally…"

Leon finally understood the principles of magic, and why he failed so many times, to do everything that wasn't normal, he needed mana. To obtain control over objects, he needed mana to control those objects he needed mana, and to transform those objects; he needed to use even more mana. To make sand become something sturdy like steel, he needed to use mana to strengthen the sand.

"That explains why that water ball didn't suddenly appear… with enough mastery, perhaps I can create something fast like that."

However, Leon noticed a few problems. Obtaining control over something like earth was easy while doing the same with other elements was hard. However, the more dense the element, the more mana he would have to spend to strengthen it… it looked like Earth would be the hardest element to transform and create following that logic.

"Oh, well… I wasn't expecting anything easy anyway. What is the matter now is that I can something thin, but sturdy."

Leon immediately tried to transform the other elements. However, they worked in different systems. Strengthening water was making it colder, and then it would become ice. With wind, with enough mana, Leon could even create electricity. As for fire… it only makes it hotter.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Water Transformation.

You obtained 01 status points.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Wind Transformation.

You obtained 01 status points.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Fire Transformation.

You obtained 01 status points.

"The cost to use those skills is stupid… but I'm sure those will be useful. I will have to train them."

Leon felt that it would be easier to train Earth Transformation before trying anything more complicated. However, he had to confirm what of those would be more efficient to use. It took a while, but eventually, Leon managed to produce a single grain of sand.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Earth Creation.

You obtained 01 status points.

Much to his surprise, when he tried to make a single steel grain, he ended up using the amount of mana he used while obtaining control and change a single grain of sand. It was so small and looked so pure that it seemed to be a small crystal.

"So, I guess the mana used doesn't change. The only real difference is that by transforming, I don't have to create the material… it is less troublesome, and since there is earth everywhere, it is more convenient. The same applies to wind… the problem will be how to create fire."

That being said, even though it was convenient to learn how to produce fire, Leon didn't need it. Now that he could create steel, he didn't need fire to harden the earth anymore.

"I should eventually learn it, but it shouldn't be my focus…"

Leon already could imagine several uses for those skills, now that humans could use magic, the possibilities were endless. For a second, Leon begun to visualize himself doing something, he saw in a TV show a long time ago. A guy combined earth and water to create wood and using it to create several structures. It didn't look impossible for him to learn, but it would take a long time since Leon needed a huge deal of concentration to transform regular sand into metal.

"Ah… I should try that… use wind as a propulsor under my feet."

Leon wanted to test that possibility, but he decided to take things slowly. He only tried to create wind after he learned how to create water, and surprisingly, it was much more comfortable, and less mana was used.

"It is probably thanks to the density of the elements…"

The number of options was increasing, but Leon was aware he couldn't forget the basic skills like Earth Manipulation. Now that he had a lot of options, he just had to train until he has the power to put all of them to good use.

Two months passed, and Leon kept training his skills vigorously, and even though he still wasn't satisfied with the level of his new skills, he decided to make his first attempt to escape that island on the first day of his sixth month on that place. Leon barely could create a knife made of steel, so he decided to cross the ocean in a boat made of earth.

Leon did a few tests in the previous days, and those fish couldn't even scratch the boat with their attacks, they tried to jump and attack Leon, but they died in mid-air before they could do anything since Leon exploded them with a blast of wind. The boat's design and shape were also much better than the first one Leon made, it was good enough that one could barely feel any unpleasantness while sitting in that boat made of earth.

"Here goes nothing…"

Leon jumped in the boat and made a blast of wind hit the sail, the first try, the boat didn't move much, but with the help of the momentum, the second blast of wind made the boat move quite fast. Leon made gusts of wind hit the sail several times, and then he began to eat the blue angel leaves that he had stored in the several backpacks made of earth. He was moving to the west, toward Asia. In no time, the island was getting smaller and smaller, and Leon's heart started to race. Barely one minute had passed, and he had traveled more than one kilometer… at that pace, he probably would reach the continent before the end of the day, but then it happened.

Suddenly, the boat was hit by something. Before Leon could understand what had happened, he saw himself in mid-air, and the boat split in two falling to the ocean. Then Leon saw it… the terror of the oceans that had been extinct thousands of years ago, The Megalodon Shark.

The damn thing had twenty meters of length, and it was five meters wide. Its mouth was so big that it could eat Leon in a single bit, the monster was looking at Leon waiting for him to fall and Leon froze when he saw those vicious red eyes, but soon he recovered because he wouldn't die there. Using the same blast of wind that he used to move the boat, he hit himself to fly back to the island. Leon's bones started to break like sticks, but that was nothing. The fear of that damn thing made him ignore the pain. Fortunately, his body was much lighter than the boat, and a blast of wind made him fly for dozen of meters.

The monster followed Leon hoping that his mana would end before he could escape, but eventually, it gave up. When Leon fell on the beach like a broken puppet, the Megalodon give up since it was too big to approach… That was Leon's first attempt and his first failure.

Leon was checking his status while trying to understand the reason of his failure, that being said, one didn't have to be a genius to understand that the ocean now was being controlled by abyssal monsters the megalodon.

As much as Leon wanted to find another explanation while analyzing his status and skills, he couldn't. He wanted a logical explanation, but the true answer was something illogical, like the return of an extinct creature like the megalodon. Such an irrational thing was so annoying that Leon had a headache.

"… Plan A failed, now the plan B… it will result in failure too."

Leon would have to have much more speed to try to outrun a megalodon, and even if he obtains that speed, his safety wouldn't be guaranteed because the monster would attack from underwater, and Leon couldn't see it through. If Leon tries to run for a year, perhaps he can become faster enough to avoid surprise attacks, but he was pretty sure that things wouldn't go so smoothly. Even if he escapes the megalodon, other things may attack him on the way to the continent, like the dragons that can use Fire Breath. Besides, he only noticed that recently, it was getting harder to increase his status while doing things like meditating and running.

"I guess that unless I create a big ship made of steel, there is no way I will be able to survive a few hours in this ocean…"

Leon was undoubtedly getting stronger, but that was certainly an utterly stupid idea. He had to train for two months to be able to create a knife made of steel. Although he spent a lot of mana making it since he was a bit perfectionist, it didn't change the fact that it would take hundreds of years before a single human can obtain the power to create such things.

"Although I did fly using the blast of winds, that is too impractical. I don't have enough health do endure that attack more than a few times, so I can't use that method to fly."

Leon still couldn't try the wind propulsor because his control was still weak. That was the problem of having multiple plans; he could never focus on a single thing. Regardless, it was time to test the floating platform once again.

"No… it is not enough. Even if I use that and escape the megalodon's reach, there are still dragons flying, and they occasionally appear. Even if they don't find me, I'm bound to find other monsters… I have to train and think of a way to move away from a monster and attack at the same time to buy time."

The answer to Leon's problem was the ability to use multiple skills at the same time. It wasn't like using Strong Arms and Dash together, two skills that could work just by thinking of them one time. It was to learn how to use earth, water, wind, and fire manipulation at the same time to attack, defend, and increase his movement.

"Hah… I'm tired of finding those new 'answers.'"

In the end, Leon was back to the drawing board. Although he was a bit depressed, he confirmed that he had the skills to leave the island, he just needed the power to protect himself from the dangers he would find out of the island.

"I can create weapons made of steel, but I doubt that even if created Excalibur itself that I would have the physical strength to kill a megalodon or a dragon. Besides, I would rather stay away from them than attack up close… I guess I will have to give up on my strength training and meditate as much as possible to increase my mana and intelligence."

Leon reached another point where he had to make a choice, but it was inevitable. Since the time he defeated the sahuagins, he didn't use his physical strength, and now that he could make projectiles of steel, he had no reason to fight up close. When he fought those monsters, he charged forward because it was the only way, but as a person who didn't have any martial knowledge, he would rather fight using magic.

"Well, if someday I learn how to make weapons that grant me skills like the sahuagins' tridents, I will change my mind, but for the time being, I will follow the path of magic."

Leon tried to act like usual, but his behavior changed after he failed in his first attempt to leave the island. He stopped eating fish, banana, coconuts, and only ate the blue angel leaves and drunk water. It was absolutely necessary to increase his magic powers as fast as possible.

While Leon was practicing his basic magic skills, he started to ponder about the best ways to make good use of his powers. Although he only had mana to create a single steel knife every ten minutes, in comparison, his mana was also capable of letting him create a few earth lances of the size of a decent tree. Using those could probably buy him a few seconds in a fight against a megalodon, but not more than that.

"Jesus Christ… why the hell am I visualizing a battle against that damn creature?"

The weight of such a projectile was bound to cause some blunt damage, but in comparison, if he could make a few smaller but sharp lances made of steel, he could use it over and over again with less mana. It was weird, even though it looked like telekinesis, Leon could control a steel knife as long as he infuses his mana with it. He thought he would learn a skill like metal manipulation, but he didn't. The steel knife was considered an object made of earth.

"I guess big weapons made of earth will only work if I want to buy a few seconds in a battle, as for the ones made of steel, I will only use them when I wish to kill the enemies."

Leon started to work on creating a few steel spears. As long as he controls them, he probably would receive the bonus of the Spearmanship skill. But, first, he had to see how much of those he could control at the same time and for how long. Since Leon wanted his spears to be as much durable and sharp as possible, it took him a week to create a single one. However, once again, he felt satisfied with the result. The spear was thick and weighed over thirty kilograms, but Leon was sure that it would last for quite a while. He created another, and when he tried the third one, he noticed that it was his current limit. He couldn't control more than three objects at the same time. Perhaps he would be able to increase over time, but it was hard to be sure.

Regardless, the spears were so powerful that using his magic, Leon could chop trees with a single swing. He couldn't even cut half of a tree using Strong Arms and Bash combined with the spear, so that only showed him that his magic powers were far ahead of his physical strength. However, he could only keep their strength for three minutes. Only one minute if he decides to use the tree spears at the same time.

"I guess it will be more efficient if I create a platform made of metal instead of one made of earth. Considering my weight and the weight that the platform will possibly have… I guess one minute is also my limit."

Leon could increase the period of use of those by eating blue angel leaves, but then again, he didn't want to rely on external sources of power too much.

Once again, two months passed in the blink of an eye. Leon tried to endure the training and worked hard for two months without a pause, but then, he got sick of it. He got sick of eating nothing but plant leaves every goddamn day. It was to help him to obtain the power to go back home as fast as possible, but he was sick of it, and it couldn't be helped.

Although his progress was clear like the day and Leon felt eager to keep the same pace, he decided to take a break from the intense training and decided to spend the day relaxing. By relaxing, Leon killed several fish and grilled them, but since he had nothing to do, he trained his magic, relying on his recovery alone. After several months without eating meat, Leon felt like eating until his stomach starts to scream because the next day, he would return to the routine of eating nothing but leaves.

With that in mind, Leon grilled and eat several fish. Surprisingly, it looked like his stomach had grown a lot while he was not looking. Although the exterior didn't change, the interior wasn't full even after Leon ate the fifth fish. That day was a relaxing day like Leon didn't have since he arrived on that island, but soon he started to regret it.

Since Leon spent several hours grilling the fish, a lot of smoke left the island, and in the middle of the day, that smoke turned into quite a sign for anything nearby. No enemy from the sea could attack him, but flying monsters were another matter altogether.

Leon froze when he heard the sound of several roar approaching. It didn't look like it belonged to dragons, but a pack of monsters would be troublesome like a single dragon. The squeals were very acute; it looked like it belonged to a long bird, and Leon didn't know any animal that could make that much noise.

However, there was no reason to be afraid. The forest was dense, so the monsters wouldn't be able to attack him by the sky. They would have to come by land, and fortunately, Leon finished his second line of defense. He created a wall around the first one, and it was one hundred meters long and wide.

Soon the creatures landed, and Leon couldn't contain his curiosity, his walls wouldn't last long against a massive number of monsters, so it was better to recognize the enemy and strike first. But Leon frowned when he saw the two meters tall birds… it looked like he had been transported to the Jurassic era. In front of him, Leon could see a pack of pterodactyls.

"Dear mother of God... what just happened to Earth?"

The end of the world really was a scary thing, to think that it would grant human powers and even bring back creatures that had vanished from the planet millions of years ago… it was just too crazy. Regardless, it wasn't time to observe the monsters. Leon touched his spears and infused them with mana before making them fly toward the monsters.

"Mmm?"

Although they were scary as hell, the pterodactyls were quite weak. Leon's spears pierced them as if they were made of cotton. Leon regretted when he sent his spears flying as fast as possible only to pierce the monsters without any resistance, but in the end, only to get stuck in some trees.

Leon forced his mana to pull off the spears, and this time he tried to focus less on power and more on precision. He made his spears spin vertically and then moved them toward the creatures. Leon frowned once again when a rain of blood fell on his camp… the pterodactyls were too weak.

"Ah... I get it. Their advantage is their numbers and their mobility in the air."

Since they couldn't attack from several directions while flying, they were pathetically weak. In just thirty seconds, Leon eliminated twenty of them without letting them even scratch his fences.

"That was surprisingly… fast."

Honestly, Leon didn't know if those monsters were just too weak of his spears were too sharp. Regardless, he approached the creature only to feel shivers while looking at those big birds.

"To think I would end up causing such carnage… I wonder if they taste like chicken."

It looked like isolation was already deteriorating Leon's sanity; he shook his head to get rid of those thoughts. It was probably due to the fact that he didn't eat meat for months that his mind was working like that analyzing how much meat those monsters have.

Many weirds things were happening, but it looked like Leon had seen only a few of those. He concluded that when he saw a tome near one of the pterodactyls' bodies. Despite the forest being dirty with blood, the tome was surprisingly clean but more important than that, Leon saw some weird symbols in the cover.

"What is this?"

When Leon touched the book, it disappeared, and suddenly he received the knowledge inside the book. He felt a headache, but soon it ended.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Freeze Lance.

Cost: 10 mana

Cooldown time: 05 seconds.

A new skill appeared in Leon's skill list. Although he didn't learn the skill by himself, he could make it stronger. That being said, like the skill he could use while equipped with sahuagins' trident, it had several restrictions. It couldn't be used continuously, and it would disappear after hitting a target.

"Mmm… I wonder if humans are learning skills like this. But why the fish didn't drop anything? I killed thousands of them…"

It was probably because only monsters that had a certain level of strength could drop those tomes. It was weird, but it was good for humans; it would give them the chance to learn offensive magic quite fast, something that Leon had to spent months practicing to do… It seemed quite unfair now that he thought about it, but considering that it was something that could save lives, Leon decided to forget it.

"The power of this skill is ridiculously weak… Is it because it is only level one?"

Regardless, Leon had means of attack much more powerful than that skill; he would only use it to obtain a few free status points. Since those monsters didn't cause much trouble, Leon decided to keep the campfire lit during the day from that day onward. The pterodactyls gave him a lot of coins, and if they could give him more skills, he wouldn't complain. There was a chance that he could lure other troublesome monsters, but Leon was willing to take that risk. As long as they weren't dragons...

Now that the battle was over, Leon decided to return to his feast. While he was eating, he decided to reinforce the walls of his camp with steel plates. Now that new enemies appeared, that much caution was necessary. That being said, it would take a few days before Leon could cover all the walls.

A few days later, Leon was making a steel plate while eating blue angel leaves while making a face as if he was chewing the worst sandwich ever. Although he was supposed to be concentrated on the job, his concentration started to wane, and he began to think if there was a way to digest all those leaves faster.

"Mmm… I wonder if I can make potions out of those leaves."

According to Leon's knowledge of fantasy stories, some potions didn't have to be drunk to show effects. There was a chance that his body could absorb the mana from the plants without digesting it. However, it couldn't just pass the mana by touch. So, Leon decided to smash those plants until it becomes a powder and mix it in water. The result was…

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Alchemy.

You obtained 01 status points.

Leon mixed the powder in clean water, and after that, he put it over his skin, at first he felt a bit itchy since the liquid was a bit viscous. But soon, the feeling disappeared, and the liquid was absorbed by his skin. However, it was only absorbed when his mana wasn't full.

"Great. It is tasty, but I'm already sick of it eating this day in and day out."

Leon made one more discovery, and thanks to it, his training sped up a little bit.

After one month, Leon finally managed to cover all the walls with steel plates, and since he had nothing better to do, he decided to practice his control over the spears while creating his first line of defense. While he was doing, he got attacked by a few groups of pterodactyls, but only that. He killed them, but he didn't find other tomes. It looked like the drop rate was low, and he got the Freeze Lance purely by chance.

One day, while Leon was wondering if he could replicate the Freeze Lance in order to use it without worrying about the cooldown time. However, he wasn't interested in using that skill; he was curious if he could learn new skills by creating magic projectiles and using them to attack.

"Considering that I didn't learn anything while using the steel spears and the earth sphere… I need to create the magic projectile at a fearsome speed and shot it almost immediately. It will be difficult to reach that level of mastery, but it is better than calling the name of the skill and losing the surprise element."

Although Leon didn't learn new skills while using the steel spears, his Spearmanship was increasing, and he was quite happy with that because the speed and power of his attacks were increasing. Regardless, he still wanted to learn those offensive spells by himself, since once again, it was getting hard to obtain free status points.

Like always, Leon decided to begin with small steps. Since the element earth was too dense and a lot of mana was used to create it, Leon decided to start with water since wind and fire were hard to control for the opposite motive. The secret of spells like Water Ball and Freeze Lance was speed; everything had to be done extremely fast, the creation and the firing. Leon decided to create a water bullet as quickly as he can and fire it as soon as it was ready. After several days of training, he reached the point where he could create a water bullet and fire in just one second, but he didn't learn a new skill.

"I'm still too slow, huh…. What a troublesome and pesky system."

That being said, Leon wasn't frustrated. He could understand why the system didn't recognize his attack at a fully-fledged spell; it was because any enemy could see and counter-attack before Leon could finish the spell. Again, it took Leon a few weeks before he could reach the system's standards. Despite that, he endured because he was leveling up his other skills at the same time.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Water Bullet.

You obtained 01 status points.

Cost: 05 mana

Regardless, the system's standards were quite high. Leon had to create and fire the projectile in an interval of 0.2 seconds. Another problem with offensive spells was the fact that they could only be used at full power, and once they hit the target, Leon would lose control over them. He couldn't even control their trajectory.

"I guess everything has its advantages and disadvantages… but the power of the bullet is quite decent."

Leon could see a hole of the size of a bullet in the tree he used as a target, and considering that the skill would grow stronger while giving him free status points, there was no reason not to use it.

The next morning, Leon put another mark on the tree he was using to count the days. While he was training, he never felt like counting the days he was there, but after succeeding in learning an offensive spell alone, he decided to count.

"…363, 364, 365… I have been here on this island for one year."

Leon immediately started to regret his actions, because of a single success, he dropped his guard only to notice the reality of the situation he was in at the worst time possible. Leon felt like someone throw at him a bucket of cold water. All the results of his ward of work of the last year immediately disappeared from his mind, and Leon felt like his body became sluggish.

Once again, Leon started to question the point of everything, why he was struggling so much? Despite the powers that he acquired, he still couldn't imagine himself surviving the trip back to the continent. Leon had never imagined that he had so little willpower. Although he worked hard to receive the chance to study abroad, he was once again ready to give up. Even if he returns to his home... his home, his hometown probably wouldn't be even there. He could see a dragon crossing the oceans quite frequently, so the situation in the continents was supposed to be far worse than his actual situation. Even if he returns, he won't find his home, his family, his hometown…

Leon spent a few days in that state where he had no motivations whatsoever to do anything, but eventually, he resumed his training because it was the only thing he could do on that damn island. Regardless, Leon started to mark the days in a new tree since the first one was already pretty beaten up.

"Sorry, Wilson. Sorry for damaging you so much, but considering that you depressed me, I guess we are even."

Leon named the first tree he marked the days 'Wilson' and named the second tree as Wilson's son. That tree would probably make Leon feel depressed in a year, too. So, he mercilessly marked the days in the second tree. He started to wonder if he was already going insane by naming trees, but Leon felt like he was still mentally healthy, and he would stay so as long as he doesn't start to harm himself to prove that he was alive or something.

Now that Leon learned the Water Bullet, he decided to learn the strengthened version. The process was quite simple, he just had to pour mana in it, and then the water became ice.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Ice Bullet.

You obtained 01 status points.

Cost: 10 mana

Since Leon had a vast amount of mana, the recovery stat, and a nearly infinite amount of blue angel leaves, he leveled up those skills pretty quickly. In half an hour, he leveled both skills, and they reached level seven, and it was usually at that level that the process would slow down, so Leon decided to learn other skills.

Leon learned earth bullet quite fast since he already knew the process; the only difference it was that he had to pour more mana, even more mana than he had to use while creating the Ice Bullet. Things only got difficult with wind and fire, Leon had to use less mana to create them, but since his control over those elements were weak, the spell was easy to fail because the energy could disperse.

However, Leon eventually managed to learn those two. He felt like it was time to create bigger magic projectiles, but he gave up on the idea. Leon was feeling like he was neglecting his primary goal of learning how to control more objects with his mana. After four months of practicing, he barely could control four spears at the same time.

"Well, maybe this is enough… if I use my mana to control the platform that will transport me and use two spears to blind the enemies, maybe I can survive the trip."

Although megalodon was a terrifying creature, Leon was pretty sure its eyes weren't made of diamonds and that he could damage them. The problem was, what if he gets attacked by more than one. Those monsters were big as hell, so perhaps only four could attack him at the same time. So, following that logic, Leon could only escape such ambush if he could control eight spears at the same time without considering his platform. Leon had a long way ahead of him before he could control so many things. Besides, he didn't have the mana to control one object permanently without relying on blue angel leaves.

Considering that Leon couldn't see the monster approaching underwater, he would have to fly quite high to have enough time to react, and thus, he would have to consider being attacked by dragons… but if he could blind megalodons, he probably could blind dragons as well. The problem will be if he finds one that can destroy an airplane almost instantly, like the first one he saw.

"Suddenly, building a ship made of steel doesn't sound a stupid idea anymore…"

Considering that Leon could now make steel plates in ten minutes, it wasn't a bad idea. The problem was that he had no knowledge of how to build a ship. A vehicle of that size had many mechanisms to keep it running. Besides, even if he manages to create one, he didn't have the engine to make it move. Relying on his blasts of wind to move a ship heavy enough to withstand the attacks of a Megalodon was too unrealistic… in the end, Leon could only rely on speed to escape from the monsters and power to buy time.

Leon kept training and trying to visualize other ways to escape the island without having to use brute force. At some point, he wondered if it wasn't a bad idea to wear some iron boots and use them to reach high altitudes and find his way back home like that. However, soon Leon gave up on the idea; he still could remember that he had a hard time breathing when the airplane fell. Besides, it wasn't that high, and dragons could fly at that height. If he tries to fly even higher, he would have a difficult time keeping his body warm.

"Another unrealistic plain… even if I can use magic, everything is over once I stop breathing."

Leon also considered the possibility of covering his body in mirrors to keep his presence hidden, but he imagined that wouldn't work. That megalodon didn't attack him because Leon had a lot of meat, it was because of his mana. Once Leon recognized that he gave up on that idea. It was possible that all those monsters could detect his presence by feeling his mana.

"So incredibly annoying…"

Leon even considered the idea of creating an artificial island, he could create all kinds of dirty, and he could make trees grow, but to make such a thing float, he would have to create some massive air containers and put it under the artificial island. Rather, the entire submerged of the island had to be made of those containers. It was another unrealistic plain… in the end, the fasted method was to open the path with blood and steel.

Six months passed in the blink of an eye, and Leon finally had enough power to permanently use a steel platform that could move him without relying on blue angel leaves. Leon built the platform and made it have the shape of an armchair; he was currently flying around the island trying to improve its speed while thinking.

" I have to make things more efficient…"

Using his mana to fill the objects he created using the four elements, Leon could obtain control over those things for precisely one minute. He wanted to find a way to use the things he wanted to use for the exact amount of time he wanted to use. That way, he would be able to save mana.

However, no matter what Leon did, to obtain complete control over the things he wanted to control, he needed to fill them with mana. If he tries to use less mana, he won't obtain control. Then Leon discovered something, he indeed could spend less mana to control certain things, but those things had to have a low-density. Sacrificing the durability of his spears, he created new ones that had empty space inside them, making it lighter, and thus less mana was used.

"No, this is not what I wanted…"

In the beginning, Leon thought that he eventually would obtain better control over his mana. Although he did obtain better control, it was thanks to the intelligence and the level of Earth Manipulation. It wasn't something he was doing consciously. Intelligence increased the power of his mana, and the more the skills leveled up, the skills themselves became more efficient. Still, Leon was wondering if there wasn't a way for him to obtain full control over his mana to do what he wanted as long as he wants.

It took a few more months for Leon to understand what he had to do, but he eventually noticed it. Instead of just putting his mana and waiting until the object gets filled, Leon just had to do that himself. Once he manages to envelop his mana in the outer layer of the objects he created, he obtained control over them, and just as he wanted, the time he could control it decreased, but the mana used also was reduced.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Mana Reinforcement.

You obtained 01 status points."I see now… when I put my mana, the objects I create become engines that obey my will. They will work and consume energy at their full capacity, but if I control them in every aspect, the consumption of energy becomes more efficient."

Surprisingly, that skill could even be used to strengthen his own body. However, its effectiveness was rather low. For example, before Leon could control five spears for 122 seconds, now he could do it for 123.

"Well… it will get more efficient the more I level up the skill."

Leon was right, even his physical stats only increased by one point, but at least the skill had potential. By using it, it would become more efficient, and he would be able to learn how much mana he would have to apply to control the spears for the exact amount of time he wanted.

Regardless, several weeks later, while Leon was training to master his new skill, he had a new idea. What about if he could create an iceberg? If he could create one big enough, it could endure the attacks of Megalodons. However, he also gave up on that idea. The ice melted quite fast in that part of the world. Even though he used blue angel leaves and his recovery also helped, half of the ice he could create melted after ten minutes.

Leon tried to make the ice using saltwater, but it only resisted a little more. It was another failure. Despite the failure, Leon didn't felt depressed. He just returned to his usual routine of never-ending training.

After almost one year, Leon finally finished his third line of defense. The fences made of wood and reinforced with steel plates now covered the entire forest of the island. It was kind of rough, but seeing so many steel plates around himself, Leon started to feel as if he was back to civilization. The bed and the ceiling were still made of leaves, and his clothes were in tatters, but despite that, he didn't feel all that much that he was in a Godforsaken island. He had clean water, food, and things to keep his mind busy. In fact, he didn't even need to wait for rain anymore. Leon could create his own water to drink or take a shower.

"Mmm… maybe I should try that."

It wouldn't help Leon all that much, but Leon decided to make a raincloud just for the fun of it. Strengthening the air, he mixed hot air and cold air. That was the usual process for him to create electricity, but he separated them to create a rain cloud. However, soon Leon stopped because he had spent too much mana. Despite that, the dark rain cloud slowly moved upward without going in any direction; it just floats above the island. Leon repeated the same process. Another rain cloud formed and joined the other. Then Leon regretted his actions, the cloud was rather small, but he could see electricity passing by the clouds.

"I don't like this…"

Then, it happened. A lightning bolt fell from the skill and hit a tree nearby, the impact and the sound make Leon feel dizzy. Fortunately, it only had hit a tree destroying it because the cloud was small, but if it were a little more powerful. Leon would have died since he was surrounded by metal.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Lightning.

You obtained 01 status points.

Mana: 500

Leon's mouth stayed wide open for a while after he received that notification. It looked like certain spells had certain rules to be recognized as offensive spells… Regardless, Leon felt like he had become a monster indeed.
