One of the things that Marinette found interesting about Chat Noir was the fact that he seemed to always have music in his head. It wasn't a song that got stuck in his head, where he'd be able to sing like 3 lines of the chorus and nothing else about the song, it was more of a radio broadcast, almost.
He would completely go through a song before shifting gears to the next song that came to mind. Sometimes, he tapped out the rhythm on her desk or chaise, or bed, or whatever he could reach, sometimes he would hum the entire song, and sometimes, on more rare occasions, he would quietly sing the song that was passing through.
"High C you're a bit of a singer," Marinette said from her desk one day when Chat was keeping her company one evening. She was working on some homework, following along with the curriculum more easily after Chat started showing up at least every other night. The songs were second nature to him so he barely even noticed until she mentioned something.
"I have to let the mewsic out however I can, princess," he informed, like it was something he has to explain often. He added a smirk to the end of his statement and she just rolled her eyes at his comment. "Plus, I thought that you liked the timpurr of my singing voice." Marinette did her best to keep from giggling at that comment.
"I suppose I should consider myself lucky that yowl have a better singing voice nowadays than you had when you had to obey Princess Fragrance when you were younger," Marinette relented. She couldn't think of any more music or singing puns and she felt a faint blush fall over her face, knowing she'd have to admit that to him.
He stuck his tongue out at her and that just caused her smile to grow a little bit bigger across her face. "And here I was, thinking I'd be able to be your mewse," he added with a sigh and an overdramatic arm draped across his forehead.
"If that's what you want, maybe you should consider not being such a mewnace," Marinette offered. "Maybe you can try being a little more mewndane once in a while, 2 m tall catboy isn't what most people would call inconspicuous."
"And why would I possibly mew something like that?" he asked. "Especially since if I just stay here, I can bother you into doing stuff with me," he added before his brain could catch up to his mouth. He blushed and added, "stuff like watching mewvies, or listening to mewsic, talk about the field trip to the art mewseum that you mentioned last time I was over."
"Playing mewltiplayer video games," Marinette added with a shy blush spreading over her cheeks. "Maybe even talking about Mewltimouse." His face seemed to brighten slightly when Marinette mentioned the mouse heroine, but just as quickly as it came over him, it fell off his face, knowing Marinette especially couldn't be the hero without the mouse Miraculous.
"All of that sounds like a lovely plan, princess," he assured, "I knew that you weren't immewne to my presence. All it took was some commewnication and now we get to hang out instead of you having to do your homework. Or, I can just hang out and amewse you while you keep working on whatever you need to."
"I'm sure I can formewlate my schedule so that I can spend some time with you, minou," she agreed. "I've been staying pretty on top of my classes lately, so if mew plan to distract me, I should have a few hours to hang out before we run into any issues."
"Wonderful!" he said excitedly. "Let's take a break from homewwork by watching something. something." He moved closer to her until he was standing over her, leaning to reach her computer to put on something to watch together. "Okay, so we could watch Spiderman Inmew the Spiderverse?" Marinette shook her head.
"Okay, how would you feel about watching In Mewges?" he offered, pointing to the thumbnail of In Bruges on Marinette's computer screen. Again, she didn't seem particularly interested in watching it, so he kept scrolling. "I don't suppose you want to watch Mewlin Rouge?" That suggestion got a giggle from her, but she was shaking her head at the idea.
"I don't think I'm in the mewd to watch a full movie," she told him. "I still have a lot most studying to do tonight, but I can take a long enough break to watch a few episodes of Commewnity with you, or maybe we could watch one episode of Mewpernatural, if that's more up your alley, Chat."
He felt his heart stop and he couldn't help but to stare at the girl who had just bantered with him like it was nothing. He didn't know how to deal with his feelings for her, but he knew he needed to figure it out soon. He couldn't just keep being this close to her without being honest about his feelings for her.
Marinette picked up her laptop and climbed up to her bed. "Which one do you want to watch?" He hadn't thought about the options at all, he was too distracted just thinking about how to go about telling her how much he cares for her. He shrugged, knowing he'd accept whichever show she put on for them to watch.
"Come hang out with me up here," she requested, patting the bed next to her. "I need your warmth to make sure that my blood keeps circmewlating enough." He chuckled and climbed up the ladder toward her, sitting on the side of her closer to the wall.
"You know that last one was a pretty big stretch, right?" he asked with a bright smile on his face. She stuck her tongue out at his tease and he placed his arm across the back of her bed, behind her. She found herself unconsciously leaning into his warmth, regardless of how much her original comment was meant to be joking.
He didn't have it in himself to complain about her stealing his warmth. Being this close to her was as close to the optimewm as he could get without being blunt about the fact that he wanted to be more than friends with her. He knew he needed to talk to someone about telling her his feelings, but he still needed to decide who would give him the best advice.
He knew that Nino would want him to be happy, and he would do his best to give Adrien advice, but there was no way for Nino to know how complicated the confession could get. He wondered if he could talk to Nino as Chat Noir, but decided that would be unreasonable. He didn't even notice which show Marinette had put on, distracted by his own thoughts.
He decided that it would probably be a better idea to tell Ladybug about his woes than it would be to tell Nino. Hopefully, she would be able to give him some advice on what to do about the girl he was holding in his arms.
