You Were Romeo

Shanks smiled, feeling the kiss pressed into his naked shoulder. He stretched, keeping his arms folded underneath his head. He turned his head, looking up into golden eyes. Grinning as another kiss was pressed into his temple.

"I need to go." Shanks whispered.

Mihawk hummed, pushing off of the bed and reaching over for his clothes that were on the floor. Shanks shuffled, keeping the sheet covering his body as he grabbed his own. Slipping them on as quick as possible. As he was readjusting his sash on his hips, grabbing his hat, and placing it back on his head, arms wrapped around his waist. Fingers dancing over his shirt and pulling it away slightly. A kiss being pressed into his scent gland.

The Omega smiled, leaning back into Mihawk's torso. "I really do have to go."

He felt the smirk against his neck, the arms that were around his waist pulling him back onto the bed until his back was hitting the mattress. Shanks reached up, letting his fingertips glide over Mihawk's jaw. Fingers moving over his lips. "I love you." Mihawk muttered.

Shanks smiled, leaning up and connecting his lips to the Alpha's. His stomach was fluttering. Twisting and turning with each touch against his skin from the older pirate. He pulled away, sighing as he tapped Mihawk on the shoulder. The Alpha complied, rolling off of him. Shanks reached over and grabbed his shoes, standing up and giving Mihawk a smile. Reaching out for his hat and placing it on his head. "I'll see you later, Hawkeyes."

"Always."

Shanks was still grinning as he opened the door, closing it behind him as he left the inn. Adjusting his clothes back into place as he headed back towards the Oro Jackson. They were supposed to be leaving within the next day. It would be a while before he saw Mihawk again, but they always found each other again.

It felt just right.

There were some major downsides to being an Omega and being the only Omega among the Roger Pirates. The day that he turned fifteen, it felt like everything was falling apart. They were on the top of the world. Roger had been crowned the Pirate King. They had been to Laugh Tale. They had conquered the world.

This was something that Shanks never expected to happen to him.

"Shanks, I have something to tell you." Roger stated, motioning for him to come sit down. He had noticed the looks of the others almost immediately. Shanks took the closest seat, eyeing his Captain for a moment. "This might be a shock to hear, but between an agreement between me and Newgate ten years ago, you are to be married to Marco. His First Division Commander."

His mind had gone completely blank.

"What?" He had barely managed to stutter out. Tripping over his own voice.

"I know it's a shock to hear, but in order to ensure your safety, the agreement had been made." Roger continued. "We will be combining the powers of the Whitebeard Pirates and the Roger Pirates through this. We have managed to combat my sickness for longer than we had originally thought. Once I'm gone, I want to make sure that no one can ever get to you."

Despite his heart racing and the ringing in his ears, he muttered out, "When?"

Roger sighed, reaching out and placing his hand over Shanks'. "We wanted to wait until you were seventeen, but we very unfortunate circumstances come up. So, within four months. By then, our crews will have made contact again."

"Does Marco know?" Shanks questioned.

The Alpha Captain nodded. "He does."

"So… this is to combine our powers and protect the crew." Shanks stated, trying to make sure that he was processing the information correctly.

Roger nodded again. "It is." He confirmed. "And you. You are my biggest concern. The Marines are stopping at nothing to hunt us down, and they take a particular liking to Omegas. With the assistance of the Whitebeard Pirates, we can avoid that."

Shanks nodded. "Alright."

Before he knew it, the time had passed, and they had encountered the Whitebeard Pirates a whole lot quicker than it was originally thought. The date was one month away, and Shanks felt with everything in him to just run. Marco was nice enough. It didn't necessarily mean that he wanted to get married to him. The marriage had been announced to both crews, being notified of the biggest change that could be brought onto all of them.

He was nervous as he was given a light shove towards the direction of Marco. Everything about this felt wrong, but it was something he had to do.

Marco gave him a soft smile. It didn't look exactly forced, but he didn't look completely comfortable either. This was the first time out of standard fights among the crews that they would be interacting. "C'mon." Marco motioned.

The Omega looked over his shoulder back at his crew, sighing as he nodded and followed after Marco. They had went to the seclusion of a nearby area within the woods as the crews started to mingle together. Why did Shanks feel like he was betraying Mihawk? It wasn't like they were anything official, they had never truly talked about it, but Mihawk did love him.

Shanks was almost positive that he was in love with Mihawk.

Was this worth the pain he would put himself through?

"You look like you're about to faint." Marco stated.

Shanks hummed, toeing at the ground as the two walked along. "I guess." He sighed, stuffing his hands into his pockets. He still felt the urge to run, but he had to do this. Roger wanted to ensure the future. Roger had never led him in a wrong direction before. If his Captain felt like this was a good move, he would go with it. "This is just… unexpected."

Marco paused, turning to look at him. "No need to worry, Red-Hair." Marco said, "This won't effected anything for you in the future. Oyaji explained to all of us what's going on. I can understand why Roger is wanting to do it. He wants to ensure the safety of his pack. I think it's noble in a way but… how do you feel about it? Like honestly."

"Scared." Shanks immediately said.

"I get that." Marco replied. "It's not exactly what you would have wanted. Is it?"

Shanks shrugged. Was it really his choice though?

The next time that he saw Mihawk, he felt like his entire world was about to shatter. It was the first time he had seen him since he had found out the news. Spoken to Marco. They were just walking in silence. How was he even supposed to tell him about this? Tell him that he was engaged. The Omega eyed the other through the corner of his eye. His face was just as blank as ever.

It was now or never. He couldn't keep this from him.

"I'm engaged, Mihawk." Shanks whispered, stopping in his tracks as he turned to face the Alpha. Mihawk had stopped walking, looking at him with an indifferent look on his face. Though, there was understanding there.

"You are?" Mihawk finally questioned.

The Omega looked down at the ground, picking at his nails as he shuffled on his feet. "I'm sorry." He said before he was turning on his heel and rushing off in the opposite direction.

What he didn't expect was hearing the foot falls coming in his direction, a hand on his bicep to stop him. He kept his eyes locked to the ground the entire time as he was forced to turn. A hand landing on his chin, forcing him to finally look up. "What is going on, Red-Hair?"

"Just forget about me." Shanks muttered. "We'll just both get hurt in the end if this continues."

As he tried to walk away again, only to be stopped once more as the Alpha moved to block his path. "Red-Hair—"

"I'm engaged. How many times do I have to say it?" Shanks exclaimed, throwing his arms up into the air. "I'm getting married in less than a month."

"Why didn't you say anything?" The Alpha questioned.

"Because maybe if I didn't think about it, I wouldn't have to deal with the fact that I don't want to." Shanks replied.

Mihawk's eyes widened for a split second, "It's an arrangement."

"I've been promised to him since I was a child." Shanks explained. "I've technically been engaged since I was five."

The Omega tried to get around Mihawk again, and once again the Alpha stopped him. "Listen to me, Red-Hair." He whispered, his hands on either side of Shanks' face, thumbs swiping over his cheek bones. "You don't have to do anything that you don't want. You are your own person. If you don't want to go through with this… then don't."

Shanks shook his head, feeling the sting in his eyes as the tears started to pool in them. "It doesn't work like that."

"Yes, it does." Mihawk immediately shot back. "Don't give up your happiness for someone else."

Shanks reached up, placing his hands on the Alpha's chest. "I'm so sorry." He took the moment to duck underneath Mihawk's arm and ran before the Alpha could stop him again. With each step that he took, his heart only shattered even more.

Marco trusted Whitebeard's judgement. Whitebeard highly respected Roger and if he thought this was the best thing, he would follow that lead. He had noticed something almost immediately. It was so subtle, and the red-haired Omega was doing everything to hide it. There was an emotion in those eyes. Screaming.

Shanks didn't want to do this, but he couldn't find it in him to say anything.

He understood why Roger wanted to ensure the safety of his nakama and most importantly Shanks. Shanks was an Omega. Omegas were not treated kindly on the seas. Often if they weren't mated or married, someone tried to take advantage of that. It was disgusting in Marco's eyes. He had seen it enough with Izou to understand where Whitebeard and Roger were coming from. Once Roger passed, Shanks would go off on his own.

He had been spending time with the apprentice. Shanks would place a smile on his face, but his body language yelled to go somewhere else.

Marco knew what it was.

Shanks was in love with someone else, and he couldn't tell any of them. All because of this.

"There's always so much power." Shanks stated. "Like a raging inferno that just won't stop."

Marco eyed the Omega, watching as he spoke. There was a light in the eyes in that moment. The Alpha hummed, talking right along with him. It was who he was speaking about.

Dracule Mihawk.

"I need to watch you two duel one day." Marco said.

Shanks looked at him. The shock on his face, before the hurt came. It had clicked almost instantly. This wasn't just any look that he would see when someone talked about their rival.

None of this was worth seeing that hurt within the Omega's eyes. Marriage be damned. They could still keep an agreement, but Marco was not going to be the one to cost something that Shanks clearly wanted. Now, he just had to figure out how to get it to work.

Today was the day. Shanks was nervous. Pacing around his room, biting at his nails as he tried with everything to get himself to calm down. He could do this. He had too. Shanks shook his head. No, he couldn't do this. This wasn't right. This didn't feel right. That urge to bolt was still there, but he would tough it out. He had too.

"You look…" The voice made him jump as he turned to see Mihawk standing there. The Alpha looked away for a split second before he was nodding, "Beautiful."

Shanks shuffled on his feet.

What the hell was Mihawk doing here?

"How did you get in here?" Shanks whispered, "Didn't I tell you to just forget about me?"

"I can't."

Shanks sighed, shaking his head as he started towards, the door, opening it up, "Just go." A hand came over his own, closing the door as he felt the hot breath against the back of his neck. Seeing the chills down his spine as goosebumps raised on his skin. "Mihawk, you need to go."

"I just came to see a friend get married." Mihawk stated. "We still are rivals after all." He shivered as he felt the nip against the curve of his neck. Right where he bond gland was.

"I'm getting married, Mihawk." Shanks stated, trying to shove down the feeling that he was getting. The twist of his stomach. Those butterflies that always seemed to be there whenever Mihawk was near. He couldn't do this. Not today. "You need to go."

"I thought you were a pirate." Mihawk hummed. "Pirates want a life of freedom, and yet… you are allowing this."

"I have no choice." Shanks snapped. "Neither do you."

"I'm a pirate." Mihawk smirked, a hand sliding underneath Shanks' button up shirt. Moving up his side and settling on his chest. "I take what I want."

Shanks growled, feeling the tears prickle behind his eyes. "I said leave." The Omega snapped. "I don't want you here! I don't want to see you!"

"That's a lie if I ever heard one." Mihawk muttered, his lips ghosting over the Omega's ear. Shanks curled his hand on the door, biting down on his lip. "You can do whatever you want. So, what is it?"

I want you.

"I want you to leave." Shanks replied, turning to face towards the Alpha. Mihawk was eyeing him. The Alpha took a step forward causing Shanks to take one back. The red head stopped as his back hit the door and Mihawk was leaning in. His lips ghosting over Shanks'. One hand reaching up to run the pad of his thumb over the younger pirate's bottom lip.

The Omega let his gaze move to Mihawk's lips for a moment, the air catching in his throat. The Alpha leaned forward, connecting them for a second. It was soft and gentle. Almost took quick as Mihawk pulled away, a feeling that Shanks didn't want.

"I just came to wish you a happy marriage." Mihawk whispered. The Alpha pushed away, a soft smile on his face as Shanks shuffled just enough to let the Alpha out the door.

Shanks let the tears fall from his eyes this time as the door closed and he pushed his back up against it. "Why did you have to be here, Hawkeyes?"

X

Shanks couldn't breathe, despite his hands being in Marco's that were keeping him within reality, he watched Mihawk's back as the Alpha walked away. He felt the nudge against his shoulder, looking up at the blonde Commander. "Go get him."

"I can't." Shanks whispered.

Marco smiled. "Yes. You can." The blonde said, leaning in to keep close to his ear, making sure no one around him could hear. "We can still keep the agreement. We will keep our side, but I don't think I could stand in your shoes if I was in love with someone."

Shanks smiled, arms wrapping around Marco's shoulders. "Thank you."

Marco laughed, pushing on his upper back. "Go on. Don't let him walk away."

The Omega felt the soft shove on his shoulder, ushering to head in the direction of Mihawk. Shanks didn't think twice before he was running forward. Trying to catch up with the Swordsman. His heart was racing the entire time. He couldn't go through with this and Marco was giving him the go ahead. He could face repercussions later.

"Hawkeyes!" Shanks exclaimed.

The Alpha stopped walking, turning to look at him. Cocking his eyebrow as his gaze settled on the Omega. "Shouldn't you be at your own wedding?"

"Yes—no." Shanks stated. "I can't do this. I can't marry someone else, because I will be giving up the one thing that I want more than anything."

"Red-Hair…"

"I'm in love with you, Mihawk."

It felt like an entire weight was lifted off of his chest as the words escaped his mouth. Mihawk was smirking as he reached out, hands settled on his hips as he pulled him close. "It's about damn time, Red-Hair."

"Shanks." The red head stated, "It's Shanks."

Mihawk smiled, reaching up and placing his hand on the back of Shanks' neck. "Shanks, it is." He muttered, leaning forward, and connecting their lips.

Shanks grinned, wrapping his arms around Mihawk's shoulders. This is what felt right to him. This is who he wanted to be with. Why couldn't he have just told Roger this is what he wanted?

He felt his feet come off of the ground, being pulled almost impossibly closer. He pulled away, letting his forehead settle against Mihawk's, "I'm so sorry."

"Don't." Mihawk whispered, pulling his head back down as his feet were settled back against the ground.

This was perfect.

Marco smiled as he watched Shanks and Mihawk, grinning as he clapped Thatch on the shoulder. "You okay?" Thatch questioned.

"I'm perfect." Marco replied. "Better now."

He only looked up as he heard the footfalls behind him. "Son?" Whitebeard questioned. Whitebeard and Roger were both standing there, looking completely shocked. "What is going on?"

Marco smiled, looking back at Shanks again. It was the happiest he had seen the Omega this entire time. His gut feeling had been correct. "Just fixing a wrong." He sighed as he looked over to Roger, "We can figure something else out, but don't do this to him."

Roger smiled and nodded. "I didn't know."

"He didn't want you too." Marco said, "He was wanting to please you."

Roger shook his head, wiping a hand over his face. "All he had to do was tell me."

Marco looked up at Whitebeard, the same smile on his face, "Oyaji, what do you think? Still keep that agreement? If it was me… I would hope he'd do the same."

Whitebeard nodded. "Yeah, we can."

The blonde Alpha turned his attention back to Shanks as he felt the nudge on his shoulder, "You did a good thing for him." Thatch muttered.

"He was in love. He was probably freaking out this entire time." Marco said back. "Hey, Red-Hair! Take it inside!"

Shanks laughed, waving a hand at him but never breaking the kiss that he was still entangled in with Mihawk. Mihawk grinned, an arm looping underneath Shanks' legs and hiking him up before he was heading off.

"Looks like Mihawk has other plans." Thatch snickered.

"I'm avoiding that area for a while." Marco stated, shaking his head. "C'mon, let's go party."
