Why did She have to trust him? Gordon was the only cop in Gotham who wasn't associated with the mob. That he didn't favor any of them. An idealist, a vigilante. A man who really did his job. Or so it seemed. But it was all fake. He was corrupt, just like every Gotham cop. Jim Gordon was a Falcone, favored by the Don, so he hadn't taken a hit yet. And his friends! Bridgit and Ivy were now used to the good life. Selina had never expected to be pushed aside so easily, after all they had been through together. In the end she had ended up alone, after all she had done for them. She already should have learned her lesson, not to trust anyone to survive in Gotham.

She didn't know what had made her behave like this. She expected to find something shady about the detective, that's why she had been rummaging through his belongings and deep down, she knew she had made a scene, but there was something about Gordon that made her want to stay there, in that house, be part of a home. She was scared. Much. And with Bridgit and Ivy with Gordon, she had gone to the only place she felt safe: Wayne Manor.

She will never forget the look on Bruce Wayne's face when She, in a fit of rage, had told him what she had found out about Gordon. Bruce looked completely betrayed, just as she felt when she found out. Selina had decided to stay at the mansion for the night. If she could, she'd drag it out for a few days while she figured out what to do from now on. The streets were not safe for a girl alone, although she could defend herself, she had never liked to depend on anyone and the streets had always been her home, she was like a stray cat.

Alfred had brought her tea and biscuits seeing her sad and moody. He was a trustworthy adult and someone who could listen to her if she asked. Bruce was angry with the detective, but that was illogical, Gordon is not to blame for being born, he did not choose his family. Selina didn't understand how no one had discovered it before: not Fish, not Maroni, not the Penguin. She guessed that Don Falcone must have kept that information from getting out at all costs. He seemed to be very overprotective of Jim Gordon.

"Detective Gordon will show up here sooner or later," Alfred said, staring at her. "He's not a man who lets a girl wander the streets alone. Especially one that bears his name on the papers."

- I already know that.-Selina said smiling.

- It's not my place to get involved, Miss Selina.-Alfred said.-But the education of children is something very complicated. Even I, who have been taking care of Master Bruce all my life, don't really know what I'm doing.

- Talking to me like that? You're getting soft.

Alfred stayed with Selina until she fell asleep. Given her refusal to use a bed, Alfred had to leave her on the sofa, much to her utter annoyance. It was around 4:00 in the morning when Gordon went looking for her. Bruce didn't want Alfred to call him, but he did anyway. Selina knew that it was he who had called Gordon, Alfred had the strange feeling that Gordon cared for her as if she were his daughter and was reproaching everyone for their attitude in not calling him to reassure him about her whereabouts.

Selina woke up to the screams of Bruce, who was preventing Gordon from entering. He was no longer welcome at Wayne Manor. Selina was hurt by Bruce's attitude towards Gordon, but what hurt her the most was hearing his resignation. Why was everyone up at that time? Bruce had been more active at night than during the day, something strange for a boy his age.

- Selina now belongs to Wayne Manor. She and her friends can stay as long as they want.-Bruce said.

"I'll take her anyway," she heard Gordon say. He arrived at her room too soon, it was as if he already knew where she was.-Hello.

"Hello." Selina replied. "How did you know I was here?"

"A friend told me." Gordon replied, sitting down near her, cautiously.

"I don't bite, you know?" she joked.

- After yesterday's scene, I don't know what to expect.

- I really did terrible right? I don't know what happened to me, but don't expect me to apologize for that.-she confessed.

- I'm here to tell you that I understand. I don't understand what you've had to go through on the streets, but I know it's been hard. Your circumstances are part of who you are. Like mine, they are part of who I am. I'm not going to pretend that I understand you, but I understand that you have probably been overwhelmed by your emotions and experiences and that is why you attacked before you were damaged. But that doesn't mean I accept it.

"What did you say?" Selina was confused.

- I came to tell you that you can choose between coming back with me or wandering the streets. You're not obligated to stay with me, but if you choose to leave, I'm going to have to remove my name from the paperwork. And if you come back, it will be with rules. And one of them is that my family respects each other…all of them.

- Yes, dad.-said Selina. She meant to say it sarcastically, as a joke, but the implications weren't lost on either of them."How are Bridgit and Ivy?" Selina wanted to change the subject before the situation got awkward.

- They're worried about you. They have regrets for not leaving with you. We have all been very worried. Why didn't you call? We thought something had happened to you.

- It's not something I'm used to.-Selina confessed.-So much concern overwhelms me. But seriously, did you know that Don Falcone is your godfather?

- Yes.-confessed Gordon.-And in a way, I'm a little proud. I like the man, I understand what dad saw in him.

- What? Oh, come on! You can not be serious!

- My father told me.-said Gordon.-In the old days it was very frowned upon that two men could form a relationship, even more so if they were enemies. My father and Don Falcone should have hated each other with a passion, instead there was admiration, love and desire. Don Falcone's sister, Sofia, offered herself as a surrogate so that Don Falcone and my father could have a child. I received an anonymous gift every Christmas and birthday, I never knew who sent them until I joined the army, when my father told me his story, a year before he died. I am never against my family, Selina, that is something that my father instilled me. And Don Falcone may not understand it now, but everything I've done has been to save his life. My father was in charge of parrying the blows against him, although he never told him. I follow his example and let Don Falcone think I'm going against him, so I avoid getting into the dynamic of mob favors.

- Why have you told me all this?-Selina asks.-Aren't you afraid of what I can do with the information?

- And what are you going to do with it? Strike a blow against Don Falcone? On the basis that I say he is my father, even though he never raised me? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?

Selina smiled. Yes, it sounded ridiculous, but this whole situation was ridiculous. Getting mad at Gordon for that had been stupid. There were parts of Gordon's life that she didn't know yet and she couldn't understand his attitude. Gordon was imperfect, as much as she was. To think that he is perfect or that he has supernatural powers and can encompass everything is laughable. Perhaps it was the dark parts of him that drew her to him. Gordon was from Gotham and he couldn't continue to pretend it. And yet, she trusted him, so when he offered her hand, she accepted it. As much as it pained Bruce, Selina had chosen to stay with Gordon. Also, the story of Peter Gordon and Don Falcone was too interesting to miss.
