AN: Hi Everyone! Oh my gosh, I can't believe we are already here at the final chapter of this fic. It has been a wonderful ride writing and sharing this with y'all. There is a planned sequel to this but I plan to start the follow up to Love Me Now next. I may also write some more detailed one shots expanding on this epilogue. As always, I do not own Covert Affairs or any of the characters. Reviews and constructive criticism always welcome!
Dreaming Through Regret
Epilogue - In Your Wildest Dreams
Lightning raced through the sky, lighting up the darkness and illuminating two figures. The thunderstorm the pair had seen heading their way from the deck of their boat had caught up with them only hours after they had docked in Piraeus. A crack of thunder followed shortly after, bringing with it a downpour of rain. The next flash of lightning highlighted tan hands, one wrapped in blonde hair and the other pressed into the cream skin of Annie's lower back. Open windows allowed a breeze to flow into the bedroom, causing Annie's blonde locks to dance around the pair.
It was two weeks after Lena had failed to eliminate Annie and the pair had waited only a couple of days to depart the States. Eyal had pushed Annie to take some time off after the Fischer/Smith operation, wanting both of them to have time to recover before diving headfirst into whatever came next. Annie had surprised him by agreeing immediately, stating that they deserved the time together and that Langley would figure out how to handle Mossad and Eyal's transfer with or without them.
Eyal booked them tickets to Athens that left DC two days after the operation wrapped, and they were out on his 40 foot Mariner Ketch sailboat by the next morning. They spent the first week and a half at sea, enjoying the late summer weather on the Mediterranean, before the storm drove them to seek the safety of the marina. Eyal's flat in Piraeus looked out onto the marina and had a wall of windows that opened onto an expansive balcony. Every room in the flat opened onto the balcony with the master bedroom on the far end.
The sound and scent of the rain permeated the room, intermixing with the heavy breathing and murmured words of the pair. Eyal's hand curled into Annie's hair pulling her closer to him before capturing her lips again. Annie wrapped her arms around his shoulders from her place seated on lap, craving the feel of his skin on every inch of her own. White sheets had pooled around their waists when Annie had rolled on top of Eyal, who then proceeded to sit them up while pulling her down to sheath himself in her.
"Neshama" Eyal breathed out as he released Annie's lips.
"Bayit" came Annie's moaned response as her head fell back exposing her neck to Eyal's lips.
The pair had spent their days at sea split between lazing on deck and Eyal teaching Annie to sail. They'd found that, once Annie understood the basics, they continued to make a great team. They were able to read the other so well they frequently did not need to use words, relying only on glances and hand brushes, though they also happily spent hours discussing everything and anything that came to mind. But their nights, those were spent tangled together, reaffirming and solidifying their partnership in the most intimate of ways. There were no facades between them any longer, those had been torn down during the long days in Tallinn and London, they only showed each other their raw selves, with all the flaws and scars.
Their lovemaking while at sea was playful and full of laughter and lightness, but this night it was passionate and sensual. The storm outside their windows reminded both of them of their reunion in Tallinn, of the riskiness of their lives, and their irrepressible need for the other in all facets of their lives. Annie's fingers lightly traced over the two scars on Eyal's left shoulder before she leaned down to press light, open mouthed kisses to them. They represented the start of their relationship and reminded her how close she had come to losing him before they had even really begun.
"It's alright, Neshama. I'm here, with you." Eyal soothed, before lifting her face to his with a gentle hand on her chin.
"I know, Bayit. Promise you'll always be here?" Annie implored.
"Always. I'll do everything in my power to stay." Eyal promised, before rolling her back underneath him.
"I love you, Eyal." Annie whispered as he slowly thrust into her.
"I love you, Annie." Eyal mirrored back at her, reveling in the press of her breasts against his chest as she arched into him.
The storm outside their windows reached its peak as the pair safely ensconced in each other's arms did. The last few flashes of lightning revealed Annie's head resting on Eyal's chest with Eyal's arm holding her close to his side as the pair slept.
It was late the next morning when a sound neither had heard for the last two weeks filled the small apartment. Annie's phone rang again and again despite the pairs' intention to ignore it. Finally, with a small huff, Annie rolled over to grab the phone from where it lay on the end table.
"Hello?" Annie asked, irritation coloring the words.
"Well, aren't we a ray of sunshine this morning, Walker." Auggie's voice quipped down the line.
"Auggie, it's like 430 in the morning there. How in god's name are you so chipper?" Annie parried back at him as she sat up in the bed, pulling the sheets up to cover her nude form.
"Coffee, Annie, lots of coffee." Auggie sarcastically replied.
"What's going on?" Annie asked, realizing that he would not be calling just to chat.
"We finally heard back from Mossad regarding Eyal's transfer to the CIA."
"Wait, let me put you on speaker, Eyal is here with me." Annie inserted, catching Eyal's attention. "Okay Auggie. What did Mossad have to say?"
"They have agreed to the transition, but they have a request for the two of you first."
"What kind of request?" Eyal questioned.
"They want you to run a joint mission, Eyal working for Mossad and Annie for the CIA, before they will release Eyal to transfer."
"What's the mission?" Annie asked.
"We don't have much yet, they want your agreement to the terms before giving us more, but the mission is in regard to Khalid and Omar Ansari."
Annie looked at Eyal to see if the names meant anything to him. She saw a brief flash of recognition in his eyes before he nodded his head at her.
"Alright, tell them we'll agree to their condition." Eyal responded for the pair.
"When do we need to be back to get this underway?" Annie queried.
"How soon can you be on a plane?" was Auggie's only response.
"We will be on a plane tomorrow, Auggie. We'll report into Langley the next day." Eyal stated before hanging up the phone and pulling Annie back into his arms to make the most of their final hours of peace.
