Chapter 4: A Faceless Voice

Hook was sat back in his chair with his arm across his eyes in an exhausted manner,

"... Errrm... Hello?..." an all too familiar yet muffled voice spoke causing Hook to sit up quickly and he looked at the large sea shell on his desk before picking it up instantly,

"Amelia?!... Oh thank the gods. Are you alright? I've been searching everywhere for you. I cannot tell you how sorry I am just... Please, tell me where you are" he begged,

"... I... I'm really sorry but... Who is this?" Killian heard Amelia ask in confusion which caused him to frown,

"Who is this? Amelia it's Killian" he told her,

"I'm afraid I don't know anyone by that name... You must have the wrong person. I'm really sorry" Amelia replied politely and Killian instantly felt his blood boil,

"... He took your memories" he murmured in realization,

"What was that?" Amelia asked, having not heard him properly due to his quiet tone,

"I... Sorry, Lass... All you need to know is that i'm a friend... At least I hope to be. You can't remember but we've met before and I'm sad to say that I broke your trust and I hurt you" Killian told her sadly as he closed his eyes in shame.

Amelia frowned in confusion as she listened to man's words and she took a seat on her window sill,

"... I've never had a friend before" she said more to herself as she thought out loud before hearing a gentle chuckle come from the shell,

"Well, Lass. You've certainly got one now... Your father and I aren't... Well... It's a long story but your father and I are enemies" the man named Killian admitted to her causing Amelia's eyes to grow wide in surprise,

"It's alright, Lass. Just listen... Your father and I are much older than we look... Although I freely admit that i've maintained my devilishly handsome good looks" He joked lightly with a slight chuckle,

"... It was a long time ago that your father was just like any other man... He was married and had a son... Baelfire... Your father's wife, Milah... She wasn't happy and... we fell in love. She begged me to take her with me but I was reluctant... I told her that your father at least deserved a chance to fight for her" Killian continued to explain,

"I follow a philosophy that states that a man who is unwilling to fight for what he wants. Deserves what he gets... Your father was too scared of me to fight for her and so I took Milah with me... It was only years after that that I met your father again but... He looked the way you know him as now and..." he struggled,

"What happened?" Amelia pressed in curiosity but there was a very long moment of silence,

"... Killian?" she called gently,

"Every ounce of my being is telling me to just tell you what happened but that wouldn't be fair of me, Lass... For centuries I called your father the coward because he couldn't bring himself to fight for Milah... But now I understand that I was the one in the wrong... I should have respected the vows the bound Milah and your father together..." Killian told her honestly,

"... My papa speaks of his son Baelfire sometimes... But he's never mentioned Milah... He refuses to talk about my own mother" Amelia admitted sadly,

"... You said you were sorry for hurting me but... What did you do that hurt me?" she pressed,

"... I tried to use you to gain my vengeance against your father. A part of me even nearly killed you before we first met... I'll never forgive myself for that" Killian told her shamefully,

"But... If you have a feud with my father that has lasted centuries then... Why are you no longer interested in pursuing it?..." Amelia asked with gentle confusion and she could almost hear the sad smile in his reply,

"... I met you" he told and Amelia didn't even realize the tear that was falling down her cheek.
