Chapter 7: Between Right & Wrong
It had been only a few days since Killian had made the deal on Amelia's behalf and they were still at sea. Killian had decided to bring Amelia back to The Kingdom of Misthaven due to the fact that she couldn't remember her first visit... Even if it had ended badly,
"There it is, Lass. The Kingdom Of Misthaven" Killian announced as she came to stand by his side so that she could see their first stop from a distance,
"It's stunning" Amelia said with a bright smile that Hook matched before moving back to the helm so that he could steer them into port.
The first place Killian took Amelia was to the bakery and they stood within a queue but Amelia watched curiously as a customer in front of them handed the baker some coins before collecting their purchase and moved off to another shop,
"What was that she gave him?" Amelia asked curiously,
"That would be money, lass. If you want something from a shop then you basically... well trade for it with money" Killian told her but smirked,
"... Unless you're a pirate" he whispered too her before waiting for the baker to turn his back so that he could put a fresh batch of pastries in the oven and Killian quickly snatched a cupcake before pulling Amelia away but he turned to find a confused frown on her face,
"... It's called a cupcake" Killian explained but Amelia's frown remained,
"... Isn't it... Wrong to take what you want without giving the man money?" Amelia asked with curious uncertainty that caused Killian to grow slightly bashful,
"Well..." he tried, thinking of how he could explain it as simply as possible,
"The thing is Lass... Money is a luxury that not many people have and so they have no choice but to take what they need... Like food for example" Killian told her which caused her to tilt her head in curiosity,
"And you don't have money and this cupcake is something you need?" she concluded,
"Ahh... Well... No, not exactly. I have plenty of money but... It's just in a pirate's nature to take what he wants" Killian answered her bashfully but this only caused Amelia to frown further in confusion,
"So... You wanted it but you didn't need it... But you still had the money to give the man but you chose not too?... That doesn't seem fair" Amelia reasoned and Killian found himself looking at the cupcake in his hand before looking back at Amelia and he sighed, smiling at her gently before moving back to the bakery just as the baker turned around,
"Just one cupcake, Mate" he told him before placing some coins on the counter that paid not only for the cupcake in his hand but for the cupcake her had stolen a year ago as well,
"Keep the change" he told him before moving back to Amelia and handed her the cupcake,
"You're right, Lass. Need and want are too very different things... As is right and wrong" he told her before instructing her to remove the paper case and watched her smile at him gently before she broke the small cake in half before offering it back to him,
"It's alright, Lass. You don't need to share" Killian assured her gently but she smiled at him gently,
"I know... I want too" Amelia told him and Killian couldn't help but chuckle lightly before accepting the half she offered him and they both enjoyed the chocolate frosted treat.
Killian explained to Amelia that her usual blue dress wasn't the best idea to wear for travelling so he took her to a tailor where he handed the shop keeper a leather pouch,
"The lady needs travelling attire" he told the shop owner whom nodded,
"Right, this way dear" the shop keeper encouraged but Amelia looked at Killian with uncertainty but he smiled encouragingly,
"Go on. I'll wait for you outside" he assured her before leaving the shop as Amelia followed the owner.
Killian paced back and forth outside the shop and the sky was filled with an orange glow due to the sun beginning to set. He heard the bell of the tailor shop door ring causing him to turn and he was stunned at the sight of Amelia in her new travel clothes. A white shirt with long puffy sleeves, new fitted trousers, leather boots, a waist coat secured with a fetching belt and a red cloak around her shoulders that complimented her hair,
"Whoa..." Killian mumbled,
"Is this better?" Amelia asked timidly,
"Oh you looked stunning before lass but now... Wow... Even more so" Killian told her in awe and Amelia couldn't help the soft blush that stained her cheeks as she looked down bashfully and Killian coughed light, shaking his head to bring himself out of his mesmerized state and he offered her a smile before gesturing towards the docks,
"Shall we, milady?" he proposed charmingly with a dazzling white smile and Amellia giggled before nodding and following him.
Amelia accompanied Hook and his crew to a dock side tavern and they all took up a large area at the back of the tavern, Amelia enjoyed water whilst the rest of the crew and Hook enjoyed steins of rum,
"... So there I was holding only fork and I still managed to knock the bastard out" Killian finished causing Amelia and the crew to laugh brightly but Smee's attention soon withdrew towards The Bar and he smiled brightly,
"Gotta go. Andrea's just come on shift" he explained before getting up and heading towards the bar and began conversing with the brunette whom happily smiled at him before pouring him a fresh stein of rum and pressed a kiss to his cheek and Amelia giggled as some of the crew wolf whistled in Smee's direction in a teasing manner,
"Who's Andrea?" Amelia asked, looking at Hook curiously and he chuckled,
"The Apple of Smee's eye. He's been in love with her for the last 3 years. Spends as much time with her as possibly whenever we pull into this port" Killian told her, taking a swig of rum whilst the rest of the crew continued to laugh and begin singing drunkenly. Amelia looked back at Smee and Andrea whom were gazing at each other lovingly and she found herself smiling softly,
"... That sounds nice" she murmured gently but the pleasant moment was soon cut short,
"Well, Well, Well... If it isn't Captain Hook" a voice mocked causing everyone in the tavern to look towards the group of men that had entered and Hook simply rolled his eyes, taking another swig of his rum,
"Just the captain I was hoping to bump into" The leader of the group spoke, approaching and smirked at Amelia,
"Who's this pretty piece?" he pressed,
"None of your business, Blackbeard" Hook said with firm warning,
"What do you want?" he demanded causing Blackbeard to chuckle with an amused smirk,
"Well I found something during my travels that you might be interested in" Blackbeard answered, reaching into his coat pocket before pulling out a small golden compass and Amelia instantly spotted an engraving on the side that read 'Cpt L. Jones',
"... My brother's compass" Hook murmured firmly, prompting Blackbeard to chuckle once more,
"Indeed... You know the price I want I assume" Blackbeard concluded,
"You already have your own ship. I will never hand you mine" Hook growled angrily,
"Awwww... That's such a shame" Blackbeard mocked, placing the compass back in his pocket which prompted Hook to stand quickly but Amelia quickly moved between them, placing her hand on Hook's chest,
"Don't let him bate you into a fight" Amelia told him gently and Blackbeard chuckled,
"Letting a simple woman fight your battles for you now Hook?... I'm disappointed" the other pirate mocked and Amelia turned to glare at him,
"I'm not fighting anyone" she said simply but the man just smirked,
"No I suppose not. Probably too afraid... but that's alright my dear" Blackbeard told her, placing his arm around her shoulders and walked her away from Hook a few steps,
"You know. The Jolly Roger may be the fastest ship in all the realms but my ship... The Queen Anne's Revenge is a far more impressive sight... Perhaps I could show you" Blackbeard proposed to her with a sickening smirk that caused Hook to clench his fist and teeth in anger as Smee came to stand by his Captain's side, with Andrea protectively behind him but when Hook went to launch at Blackbeard, Smee stopped him and subtly gestured for his captain to look as Amelia looked up at Blackbeard with a teasing smile and she placed her hand over his chest,
"Such a tempting offer but I'm afraid I must decline. I already have a captain" Amelia told him, withdrawing her hand and Hook watched as she subtly moved her hand behind her back to reveal to him that she was holding the compass in her palm causing Killain to develop a stunned expression,
"No doubt you'll reconsider the next time we meet. I'm sure you'll grow bored of the one handed pirate" Blackbeard sneered before turning his back and barked at his crew to move out and they quickly followed their captain out of the tavern.
Amelia turned to Killian with a smile as she placed the compass in his palm as he looked at her stunned,
"How on earth did you...?" he tried,
"A simple spell that my pa... That Rumplestiltskin taught me a couple of years ago" Amelia explained gently and Killian chuckled brightly before smiling at her just as brightly,
"... I thought you said that taking something without paying wasn't fair" Killain teased her lightly, watching as she shrugged her shoulders gently,
"He wasn't being fair by asking for an unfair price. Plus I heard you say that it belongs to your brother so he shouldn't have it. Now you can give it back to him" Amelia reasoned gently but frowned when Killian's smile became sad,
"... Killian?..." she pressed gently and Hook sighed, grabbing his coat before putting it on, placing the compass safely within his inside pocket and taking Amelia's hand, leading her out of the tavern.
Killian walked Amelia slowly back to his ship,
"As much as I would love to return this compass to my brother... I cannot" Killian admitted sadly as Amelia walked by his side,
"... He died a long time ago" he told her, not being able to bring himself to look at her but he felt her take his hand gently, making him stop walking,
"Killian, I am so sorry" Amelia told him gently before moving forward and hugged him gently, causing the pirate to smile sadly, returning her hug as he rested his chin atop her head,
"... Thank you, Lass... I'll never be able to thank you enough" he murmured, watching as she looked up at him gently and he slowly brushed the back of his hand against her cheek... A great silence fell between them and Hook soon leaned towards her slightly but pulled away and simply pressed a kiss to the crown of her head,
"Come on. we have to start getting the ship ready... Out next voyage awaits" he told her with a smile before leading her back to The Jolly Roger and Amelia was happy to follow him.
