Article III
Section I
The judicial powers of the Galactic Republic shall be vested in a Supreme Court, comprised of an odd number of members, no less than three, to adjudicate on the constitutionality of the laws, resolutions, proceedings, and treaties and powers executed by the legislative and executive branches of government.
Section II
The Supreme Court Justices shall be chaired by a Chief Justice, the senior-most Justice among the Court.
The Supreme Court Justices are to be appointed by the Supreme Chancellor with advice and consent of the Galactic Senate, by a simple majority vote.
The Supreme Court Justices may serve up to twenty-five Coruscant standard years, and are not eligible for reappointment or a term extension.
The Supreme Court Justices may be removed from office through impeachment for high crimes and misdemeanors against the state, security, and interests of the Galactic Republic, its member star systems, and citizens through a two round voting procedure in the Galactic Senate. The first round is to name the charges placed against the Supreme Court Justice(s) in question and requires a simple majority vote to be approved. The second round vote is to convict the Supreme Court Justice of their crimes against the Galactic Republic or aforementioned parties and remove them from office, requiring a simple majority vote.
Section III
The Supreme Court shall serve as the highest court in the Galactic Republic.
The Galactic Republic may establish Regional Court systems that serve below the Supreme Court. Regional Courts may be proposed by the respective region of member star systems but must be established by a simple majority vote of the Galactic Senate.
Regional Court systems may operate with planetary high courts or other judicial court systems native to member star systems, yet serve as the contact point between member star system and the Supreme Court.
Regional Courts are to be chaired by a Justice, yet may have more than one Justice, as long as there are an odd total number of Justices.
Section IV
Galactic Republic member star systems have the right to request the Galactic Department of Justice to have a planetary or sector court system established following similar structures of the Regional Court and to be funded by the Galactic Republic.
Section V
The Galactic Department of Justice shall serve as the agency to handle any criminal court cases in which the Government of the Galactic Republic has interest. The Department of Justice shall be chaired and directed by the Galactic Secretary of Justice, to be appointed by the Supreme Chancellor with the advice and consent of the Senate by a simple-majority vote. The Secretary shall serve a term of four years upon their start-date, for a maximum of three terms, and are subject to reappointment by the Supreme Chancellor at the end of each term.
The Galactic Department of Constitutional and Code Accordance shall serve as the agency to determine if Regional Courts and member star system courts uphold the values and standards of the Supreme Court, and that rulings do not contradict codified Galactic Republic law or treaties. The Galactic Department of Constitutional and Code Accordance shall be chaired and directed by the Secretary of Constitutionality and Codes, to be appointed by the Senate and confirmed by a simple-majority vote by the Senate. The Secretary shall serve a term of four years upon their start date, up to a maximum of three terms. At the end of each term, the Secretary must be reappointed and reapproved by the Senate.
