Chapter 9: The Year's End

It had been an entire day since the kiss that Amelia and Killian had first shared. Stars once again filled the sky as Amelia stood on deck long after Hook and his men had retired for the night... Amelia had quietly made her way up on deck so that she could think... She gazed at the waves below the ship before touching her fingertips to her lips as she remembered the kiss she had shared with her handsome pirate captain,

"... There has to be a way to prevent Killian's fate" she murmured to herself before sighing in irritation,

"... It is certain that there is a way... But the question is... Just how far are you willing to go... To save the life of your beloved Captain..." an unearthly whisper spoke as it swirled around the deck of the ship causing Amelia to look around cautiously,

"... Who said that?" Amelia called out,

"Unfortunately my single day on land ended with the setting sun but one day ago and so I am unable to speak to you face to face... However I wished to thank you for your song. Myself and my love greatly appreciated it as we danced along the ocean winds, creating ripples along the surface" The voice explained causing Amelia to develop a look of realization,

"... The sea goddess, Ursula" Amelia murmured,

"Indeed... I am aware of the deal your pirate made on your behalf with the man you once called your father" Ursula spoke,

"... If I don't think of something soon. Killian will die... And it will be my fault" Amelia murmured sadly, turning away from the ship's side and approached the main mast which she rested her forehead against,

"... He would have been better off having never met me" she continued sadly,

"That is the most ridiculous thing i've heard in the last 6 centuries" Ursula replied,

"Your father is many things and he cares for you a great deal... But that does not change the fact that he accepted a cruel price for only one year of freedom that he has denied you for the entire beginning of your life" The goddess reasoned,

"... I don't know what to do" Amelia whispered sadly, gazing up at the sky with tear filled eyes,

"As I learned many many centuries ago. Look to your heart for the answer your mind refuses to give you... It's never wrong" Ursula whispered just before the wind died down, becoming normal once again. Amelia hoped that the sea goddess was right.

~ The Day Of The Year's End ~

Hook stood before his crew at the helm with Amelia by his side,

"As you know men... When the sun finally sets on this day... An entire year will have come to an end... and with it will also come the end as my reign as your captain" Hook announced,

"You're not going to die, Killian. I won't let my father kill you" Amelia insisted for nearly the 100th time but he simply took her hand gently, smiling at her sadly as he placed it on the helm,

"When the time comes... Amelia will take my place as your captain" Killian announced and Amelia couldn't help but look down sadly as each crew mate got down on one knee, placing their hats over their hearts to show their promise of allegiance to her as their new captain but a high pitched giggle soon interrupted the bitter sweet moment causing all of them to look towards the ship's main mast to find The Dark One leaning against it with a smug smile,

"Well who would have thought that pirates would accept a woman as their captain even if it is one as extraordinary as my little teacup" Rumple mocked lightly, vanishing in a cloud of smoke before reappearing beside Hook but Amelia quickly moved in front of Killian protectively,

"... Papa please... I am begging you. Don't kill him" Amelia begged with a desperate expression as Rumple looked down at her with a sorrowful expression on his face as he gently brushed the back of his scaled hand against her cheek,

"... I'm sorry teacup... But the only thought in my mind this past year was the fact that this pirate took you away from me" Rumple said and Amelia looked up at him firmly,

"I won't let you hurt him" she told him but Rumple simply waved his hand causing an invisible force to move Amelia out of his way, freezing her in place and before anyone could even blink, Rumple thrust his clawed and scaled hand into Hook's chest before removing his heart,

"IF YOU DO THIS I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU! YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN!" Amelia yelled at him,

"The deal stated that I only needed to give you 1 year of freedom. Once I finish this I'm taking you back home and I will make you forget every ounce of poison that this pirate has filled your head with" Rumple said firmly causing Hook to glare at him,

"You can't do that!" he yelled but Rumple simply smirked,

"You should have been more specific when making a deal with me" he sneered before crushing the heart into dust that was carried away by the wind... Rumple immediately frowned when Hook still stood before him,

"... Impossible" he growled but Killian soon looked towards Amelia whom was suddenly free of her frozen hold and she fell forward,

"Amelia!" Killian yelled, rushing forward and catching her as he carefully sat down so that he could hold her gently in his arms,

"Amelia what have you done?" he demanded weakly as she looked up at him with a sad, weak and tired smile,

"... I'm sorry Killian... I replaced your heart with my own... I had hoped I could change his mind... When the sun fully sets... The last echo of my heart inside of me will beat its last" Amelia told him,

"NO!" Rumple yelled,

"Amelia why?... Why did you do this?" Hook asked her, not being able to stop the tears that fell down his stubble cheeks,

"... The sea goddess Ursula told me to look inside my heart for the answer... I tried but I soon realized that my heart wasn't my own anymore... It was yours. I think it has been from the very moment we met... Even if I can't remember it" Amelia whispered before reaching up weakly and cupping his cheek, brushing his tears away with her thumb,

"... With my death the deal will be null and void. Your heart is in the safest place I know... I'm sorry that we only got a year together, Killian... I'll be the wind in your ship's sails from now on... I... I love..." She struggled just as the sun vanished below the horizon and Amelia eyes fell shut as she became limp in her pirate's arms.
